| 9:1 | O who wyll geue my head water ynough, and a wel of teares for myne eyes: that I maye wepe night and daye: for the slaughter of my people? |
| 9:2 | Wolde God, that I had a cotage some where farre from folcke, that I myght leaue my people, and goo from them: for they be all aduoutrers & a shrynckynge sorte. |
| 9:3 | They bende theyr tunges lyke bowes, to shote out lyes. They wax stronge vpon erthe. As for the trueth, they maye nothynge awaye with all in the worlde. For they go from one wyckednes to another, and wyll not knowe me, sayeth the Lorde. |
| 9:4 | Yee, one must kepe hym selfe from another, no man may safely trust his awne brother: for one brother vndermyndeth another, one neyghboure begileth another. |
| 9:5 | Yee one dissembleh wt another, and they deale wt no trueth. They haue practysed theyr tunges to lye, & taken great paynes to do mischefe. |
| 9:6 | Thou syttest in the myddes of a dysceatfull people, which for very dissemblyng falshede, wyll not knowe me, sayeth the Lord. |
| 9:7 | Therfore, thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes: beholde, I wyll melte them, and trye them, for what shuld I els do to my people. |
| 9:8 | Theyr tunges are lyke sharpe arowes, to speake dysceate. Wyth theyr mouth they speake peaceably to theyr neyghboure, but preuely they laye wayte for hym. |
| 9:9 | Shulde I not punysh them for these thynges, sayeth the Lorde? Or shulde I not be auenged of any soche people as thys? |
| 9:10 | Upon the mountaines will I take vp a lamentacion & a sorowful crie, & a mourninge vpon the fayre playnes of the wildernesse. Namely, how they are so brente vp, that no man goeth there any moore. Yee, a man shall not heare one beaste crye there. Byrdes & catell are all gone from thenc |
| 9:11 | I will make Ierusalem also an heape of stones, & a denne of venymous wormes. And I will make the cyties of Iuda so waste, that no man shall dwell therin. |
| 9:12 | What man is so wyse, as to vndestande thys? Or to whom hath the Lord spoken by mouth, that he may shewe this, & saye. O thou lande, why perishest thou so? Wherfore art thou so brent vp, & lyke a wyldernes, that no man goeth thorow? |
| 9:13 | Yee, the Lorde hym selfe tolde the same vnto them, that forsoke hys lawe, & kepte not the thynge that he gaue them in commaundement, nether lyued therafter: |
| 9:14 | but folowed the wickednes of theyr awne hertes, & serued straunge Goddes, as theyr fathers taught them. |
| 9:15 | Therfore, thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes, the God of Israel. Beholde, I wyll fede this people wt wormwod, & geue them gall to dryncke, |
| 9:16 | I wyll scatre them also among the Heathen, whom nether they ner theyr fathers haue knowne: & I will sende a swearde amonge them, to persecute them, vntill I bryng them to naught. |
| 9:17 | Moreouer, thus sayeth the Lord of Hostes. Beware of the vengeaunce that hangeth ouer you: and cal for mourning wyues, & sende for wyse wemen: that they come shortly, |
| 9:18 | and synge a mournynge songe of you: that the teares may fall out of oure eyes, and that our eye lyddes maye gusshe out of water. |
| 9:19 | For there is a lamentable noyse hearde of Sion. O how are we so sore destroyed? O how are we so pyteously confounded? We must forsake our awne naturall countre, & we are shut out of oure awne lodgynges. |
| 9:20 | Yet heare the worde of the Lorde (O ye wemen) & let youre eares regarde the wordes of his mouth: that ye may lerne youre daughters to mourne, & that euery one may teach her neyghbouresse, to make lamentacyon. |
| 9:21 | Namely thus: Death is clymynge vp in at oure wyndowes, he is come into oure houses, to destroye the chylde before the dore, and the yonge man in the strete. |
| 9:22 | But tell thou playnely, thus sayeth the Lorde. The deed bodyes of men shall lye vpon the grounde, as the donge vpon the felde, & as the heye after the mower, & ther shalbe no man to take them vp. |
| 9:23 | Thus sayeth the Lorde. Let not the wyse man reioyse in his wysdome, ner the strong man in his strength, nether the ryche man in his rychesse. |
| 9:24 | But who so will reioyse, let hym reioyse in this, that he vnderstandeth, & knoweth me: for I am the Lorde, which do mercy, equyte and ryghteousnesse vpon the earth. Therfore, haue I pleasure in soch thynges, sayeth the Lorde. |
| 9:25 | Beholde, the tyme commeth (sayeth the Lorde) that I wyll vyset all them, whose fore skynne is vncircumcysed. |
| 9:26 | The Egyptians, the Iewes, the Edomytes, the Ammonytes, the Moabites. and the shauen Madianytes, that dwell in the wyldernes. For all the Gentiles are vncircumcysed in the flesh, but all the house of Israell are vncircumcysed in the herte. |

| 9:4 | Ech man kepe hym fro his neiybore, and haue no trist in ony brother of hym; for whi ech brother disseyuyng schal disseyue, and ech frend schal go gilefuli. |
| 9:5 | And a man schal scorne his brother, and schal not speke treuthe; for thei tauyten her tunge to speke leesyng; thei traueliden to do wickidli. |
| 9:6 | Thi dwellyng is in the myddis of gile; in gile thei forsoken to knowe me, seith the Lord. |
| 9:7 | Therfor the Lord of oostis seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal welle togidere, and Y schal preue hem; for whi what other thing schal Y do fro the face of the douyter of my puple? |
| 9:8 | The tunge of hem is an arowe woundynge, and spak gile; in his mouth he spekith pees with his frend, and priueli he settith tresouns to hym. |
| 9:9 | Whether Y schal not visite on these thingis, seith the Lord, ether schal not my soule take veniaunce on siche a folc? |
| 9:10 | On hillis Y schal take wepyng and mournyng, and weilyng on the faire thingis of desert, for tho ben brent; for no man is passynge forth, and thei herden not the vois of hym that weldith; fro a brid of the eir `til to scheep, tho passiden ouer, and yeden awei. |
| 9:11 | And Y schal yyue Jerusalem in to heepis of grauel, and in to dennes of dragouns; and Y schal yyue the citees of Juda in to desolacioun, for ther is no dwellere. |
| 9:12 | Who is a wise man that schal vndurstonde these thingis, and to whom the word of the mouth of the Lord schal be maad, that he telle this? Whi the erthe perischide, it is brent as desert, for noon is that passith? |
| 9:13 | And the Lord seide, For thei forsoken my lawe, which Y yaf to hem, and thei herden not my vois, and thei yeden not therynne; |
| 9:14 | and thei yeden aftir the schrewidnesse of her herte, and aftir Baalym, which thei lerneden of her fadris; |
| 9:15 | therfor the Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal fede this puple with wermod, and Y schal yyue to hem drynke the watir of galle. |
| 9:16 | And Y schal scatere hem among hethene men, whiche thei and her fadris knewen not; and Y schal sende swerd aftir hem, til thei ben wastid. |
| 9:17 | The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Biholde ye, and clepe ye wymmen `that weilen, and come thei; and sende ye to tho wymmen that ben wise, and haste thei. |
| 9:18 | Haste thei, and take thei weilynge on you; youre iyen brynge doun teeris, and youre iyelidis flowe with watris; |
| 9:19 | for the vois of weilyng is herd fro Sion. Hou ben we distried, and schent greetli? for we han forsake the lond, for oure tabernaclis ben forsakun. |
| 9:20 | Therfor, wymmen, here ye the word of the Lord, and youre eeris take the word of his mouth; and teche ye youre douytris weilyng, and ech womman teche hir neiybore mournyng. |
| 9:21 | For whi deth stiede bi youre wyndows, it entride in to youre housis, to leese litle children with outforth, and yonge men fro the stretis. |
| 9:22 | Speke thou, the Lord seith, these thingis, And the deed bodi of a man schal fal doun as a toord on the face of the cuntrei, and as hei bihynde the bak of the mowere, and noon is that gaderith. |
| 9:23 | The Lord seith these thingis, A wise man haue not glorie in his wisdom, and a strong man haue not glorie in his strengthe, and a riche man haue not glorie in hise richessis; but he that hath glorie, |
| 9:24 | haue glorie in this, to wite and knowe me, for Y am the Lord, that do merci and dom and riytfulnesse in erthe. For whi these thingis plesen me, seith the Lord. |
| 9:25 | Lo! daies comen, seith the Lord, and Y schal visite on ech man that hath prepucie vncircumcidid; on Egipt, |
| 9:26 | and on Juda, and on Edom, and on the sones of Amon, and on Moab, and on alle men that ben clippid on long heer, and dwellen in desert; for whi alle hethene men han prepucie, forsothe al the hous of Israel ben vncircumcidid in herte. |

| 9:6 | They haue set their stole in the myddest of disceate, and (for very dissemblinge falsede) they wil not knowe me, saieth the LORDE. |
| 9:7 | Therfore thus saieth the LORDE of hoostes, beholde, I wil melte them and trie the, for what shulde I els do to my people? |
| 9:8 | Their tunges are like sharpe arowes, to speake disceate. With their mouth they speake peaceably to their neghboure, but preuely they laye waite for him. |
| 9:9 | Shulde I not punysh them for these thinges, saieth the LORDE? Or, shulde I not be auenged of eny soch people, as this? |

| 9:14 | but folowed the wickednes of their owne hertes, and serued straunge goddes, as their fathers taught them. |
| 9:15 | Therfore, thus saieth the LORDE of hoostes, the God of Israel: Beholde, I will fede this people with wormwod, and geue the gall to drynke. |
| 9:16 | I will scatre them also amonge the Heithen, whom nether they ner their fathers haue knowne: and I will sende a swearde amonge them, to persecute them, vntill I bringe them to naught. |
| 9:17 | Morouer, thus saieth the LORDE of hoostes: loke that ye call for mournynge wyues, and sende for wise women: that they come shortly, |
| 9:18 | and singe a mournynge songe of you: that the teares maye fall out of oure eyes, and that oure eye lyddes maye gushe out of water. |
| 9:19 | For there is a lamentable noyse herde of Sion: O how are we so sore destroyed? O how are we so piteously confounded? We must forsake oure owne naturall countre, and we are shot out of oure owne lodgiges. |
| 9:20 | Yet heare the worde of the LORDE (o ye women). And let youre eares regarde the wordes of his mouth: that ye maye lerne youre doughters to mourne, and that euery one maye teach hir neghbouresse, to make lamentacion. |
| 9:21 | Namely thus: Deeth is clymme vp in at oure wyndowes, he is come in to oure houses, to destroye the childe before the dore, & ye yonge man in the strete. |
| 9:22 | But tell thou planely, thus saieth ye LORDE: The deed bodies of men shal lye apon ye grounde, as the donge vpon the felde, and as the hay after the mower, and there shalbe no man to take them vp. |
| 9:23 | Morouer, thus saieth the LORDE: Let not the wise man reioyse in his wisdome, ner the stronge man in his strength, nether the rich man in his riches: |
| 9:24 | But who so wil reioyse, let him reioyse in this, that he vnderstodeth, and knoweth me: for I am the LORDE, which do mercie, equite and rightuousnes vpon earth. Therfore haue I pleasure in soch thinges, saieth ye LORDE. |
