Jeremiah - Chapter: 10

>
10:1Heare the worde of the Lorde that he speaketh vnto the, O thou house of Israel.
10:2Thus sayeth the Lorde. Ye shall not lerne after the maner of the Heathen, & ye shall not be afrayed for the tokens of heauen: for the Heathen are afrayed of soch:
10:3yee, al the customes and lawes of the Gentyles are nothynge, but vanyte. They hewe downe a tree in the wod with the handes of the worckeman, and fashyon it wt the axe:
10:4they couer it ouer with golde or siluer, they fasten it with nayles & hammers, that it moue not.
10:5It standeth as styf as the palme tree, it can nether speake ner go one fote, but must be borne. Be not ye afrayed of soch, for they can do nether good ner euell.
10:6But there is none lyke vnto the, O Lorde, & great is the name of thy power.
10:7Who wolde not feare the? O kyng of the Gentils for thyne is the domynion. For amonge all the wyse men of the Gentyles, and in all theyr kyngdomes, there is none that maye be lickened vnto the.
10:8They are all together vnlerned & vnwyse in this one thynge. All theyr connynge is but vanyte:
10:9namely, wod, syluer, which is brought out of Tharsis, & beaten to plates: and golde from Ophir, a worcke that is made with the hande of the craftesman & the caster, clothed wt yelow sylck & scarlet: euen so is the worcke of theyr wyse men all together.
10:10But the Lorde is a true God, a lyuynge God, & an euerlastynge kynge. If he be wroth, the earth shaketh: all the Gentyles maye not abyde his indygnacyon.
10:11As for theyr goddes thus shall you saye to them: they are goddes, that made nether heauen ner earth therfore shall they perysh from the earth, and from all thynges vnder heauen.
10:12But (as for oure God) He made the earth wt his power, and with his wysdome doth he order the whole compasse of the worlde, with his discrecyon hath he spred out the heauens.
10:13At his voyce the waters gather togethe in the ayre, he draweth vp the cloudes from the vttemost partes of the earth: he turneth lyghtenyng to rayne, & bryngeth forth the wyndes out of their treasures.
10:14His wysdome maketh all men fooles. And confounded be all casters of ymages, for that they cast, is but a vayne thynge, & hath no lyfe.
10:15The vayne craftesmen wt their worckes, that they in their vanyte haue made, shall perysh one wt another in the tyme of visitacyon.
10:16Neuertheles, Iacobs porcyon is no soch: but it is he, that hath made all thynges, & Israel is the rodd of his inherytaunce. The Lorde of Hostes is his name.
10:17Gather vp thy wares out of the land, thou that art in the stronge place.
10:18For thus sayeth the Lord. Behold, I wyll now throwe as wt a stone slynge the inhabitours of this lande: at this once, and I wyll brynge trouble vpon them, that they shall proue trewe the wordes that I haue spoken by the prophetes.
10:19Alas, how am I hurt? Alas how paynefull are my scourges vnto me? For I consydre this sorow by my self, and I must suffre it.
10:20My tabernacle is destroyed, and all my coardes are broken. My chyldren are gone fro me, & can no where be founde. Now haue I none to sprede out my tent, or to set vp my hangynges.
10:21For the herdmen haue done folyshly, that they haue not sought the Lord. Therfore, haue they dealt vnwysely with theyr catell, & all are scatred abrode.
10:22Beholde, the noyse is harde at hand, & great sedicyon out of the north: to make the cyties of Iuda a wyldernes, & a dwellynge place for Dragons.
10:23Now I knowe (O Lorde) that it is not in mans power to ordre hys awne wayes, or to rule his awne steppes & goyngges.
10:24Therfore, chasten thou vs, o Lord, but with fauoure & not in thy wrath, bryng vs not vtterly to naught.
10:25Poure out thyne indygnacyon rather vpon the Gentiles, that knowe the not, & vpon the people that call not on thy name. And that because they haue consumed, deuoured and destroyed Iacob, and haue made his habytacyon waist.

10:1The hous of Israel, here ye the word which the Lord spak on you.
10:2The Lord seith these thingis, Nyle ye lerne aftir the weies of hethene men, and nyle ye drede of the signes of heuene, whiche signes hethene men dreden.
10:3For the lawis of puplis ben veyn, for whi the werk of hondis of a crafti man hath kit doun with an axe a tre of the forest.
10:4He made it fair with siluer and gold; with naylis and hameris he ioynede it togidere, that it be not loosid.
10:5Idols ben maad in the licnesse of a palm tree, and schulen not speke; tho schulen be takun and be borun, for tho moun not go; therfor nyle ye drede tho, for tho moun nether do yuel, nethir wel.
10:6Lord, noon is lijk thee; thou art greet, and thi name is greet in strengthe.
10:7A! thou king of folkis, who schal not drede thee? for whi onour is thin among alle wise men of hethene men, and in alle the rewmes of hem noon is lijk thee.
10:8Thei schulen be preued, vnwise and foolis togidere; the techyng of her vanyte is a tre.
10:9Siluer wlappid is brouyt fro Tharsis, and gold fro Ophaz; it is the werk of a crafti man, and of the hond of a worchere in metel; iacynct and purpur ben the clothing of tho; alle these thingis ben the werk of werk men.
10:10Forsothe the Lord is veri God; he is God lyuynge, and a kyng euerlastynge; the erthe schal be mouyd togidere of his indignacioun, and hethene men schulen not suffre the manaassing of hym.
10:11Therfor thus ye schulen seie to hem, Goddis that maden not heuene and erthe, perische fro erthe, and fro these thingis that ben vndur heuene.
10:12He is God, that makith the erthe in his strengthe, makith redi the world in his wisdom, and stretchith forth heuenes bi his prudence.
10:13At his vois he yyueth the multitude of watris in heuene, and he reisith mystis fro the endis of erthe; he makith leitis into reyn, and ledith out wynd of his tresouris.
10:14Ech man is maad a fool of kunnyng, ech crafti man is schent in a grauun ymage; for whi that that he wellide togidere is fals, and no spirit is in tho.
10:15Tho ben veyn, and a werk worthi of scorn; tho schulen perische in the tyme of her visitacioun.
10:16The part of Jacob is not lijk these, for he that formede alle thingis is God of Jacob, and Israel is the yerde of his eritage; the Lord of oostis is name to hym.
10:17Thou that dwellist in bisegyng, gadere fro the lond thi schenschipe;
10:18for the Lord seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal caste awei fer the dwelleris of the loond in this while; and Y schal yyue tribulacioun to hem, so that thei be not foundun.
10:19Wo to me on my sorewe, my wounde is ful yuel; forsothe Y seide, Pleynli this is my sikenesse, and Y schal bere it.
10:20My tabernacle is distried, alle my roopis ben brokun; my sones yeden out fro me, and ben not; noon is that schal stretche forth more my tente, and schal reyse my skynnes.
10:21For the scheepherdis diden folili, and souyten not the Lord; therfor thei vndurstoden not, and alle the flok of hem is scaterid.
10:22Lo! the vois of hering cometh, and a greet mouynge togidere fro the lond of the north, that it sette the citees of Juda in to wildirnesse, and a dwellynge place of dragouns.
10:23Lord, Y woot, that the weie of a man is not of hym, nether it is of a man that he go, and dresse hise steppis.
10:24Lord, chastise thou me; netheles in doom and not in thi strong veniaunce, lest perauenture thou dryue me to nouyt.
10:25Schede out thin indignacioun on hethene men that knewen not thee, and on prouynces that clepiden not thi name to help; for thei eeten Jacob, and deuouriden hym, and wastiden hym, and destrieden the onour of hym.

10:1Heare the worde of the LORDE, yt he speaketh vnto the, o thou house of Israel:
10:2Thus saieth the LORDE: Ye shal not lerne after the maner of the Heithe, and ye shal not be afrayed for the tokens of heauen: for the Heithen are afrayed of soch:
10:3Yee all the customes and lawes of the Getiles are nothinge, but vanite. They hewe downe a tre in the wod with the hondes of the worke man, and fashion it with the axe:
10:4they couer it ouer with golde or syluer, they fasten it wt nales and hammers, that it moue not.
10:5It stodeth as stiff as the palme tre, it can nether speake ner go, but must be borne. Be not ye afrayed of soch, for they ca do nether good ner euel.
10:6But there is none like vnto ye (o LORDE) thou art greate, and greate is the name of yi power.
10:7Who wolde not feare the? or what kige of the Gentiles wolde not obeye the? For amonge all the wysemen of the Gentiles, and in all their kingdomes, there is none, that maye be lickened vnto the.
10:8They are all together vnlerned and vnwise, All their connynge is but vanite:
10:9namely, wod, syluer, which is brought out of Tharsis, and beate to plates: and golde from Ophir, a worke yt is made with the honde of the craftesman & the caster, clothed with yalow sylck and scarlet: euen so is the worke of their wyse men all together.
10:10But the LORDE is a true God, a lyuinge God, and an euerlastinge kinge. Yf he be wroth, the earth shaketh: all the Getiles maye not abyde his indignacion.
10:11As for their goddes, it maye well be sayde of the: they are goddes, that made nether heaue ner earth: therfore shal they perish fro the earth, and from all thinges vnder heauen.
10:12But (as for oure God) he made the earth with his power, and with his wisdome hath he fynished the whole compasse of the worlde, with his discrecion hath he spred out the heauens,
10:13At his voyce the waters gather together in the ayre, he draweth vp ye cloudes from the vttemost partes of ye earth: he turneth lighteninge to rayne, and brigeth forth the wyndes out of their treasuries:
10:14His wisdome maketh all men fooles. And confunded be all casters of ymages, for that they cast, is but a vayne thinge, and hath no life.
10:15The vayne craftes men with their workes, that they in their vanite haue made, shall perish one with another in the tyme of visitacion.
10:16Neuertheles, Iacobs porcio is not soch: but it is he, that hath made all thinges, and Israel is the rodd of his inheritauce: The LORDE of hoostes is his name.
10:17Put awaye thy vnclennesse out of the londe, thou that art in the stronge cities.
10:18For thus saieth the LORDE: Beholde, I wil now thrust out the inhatours of this londe a greate waye off, and trouble them of soch a fashio, that they shal no more be founde.
10:19Alas, how am I hurte? Alas, how panefull are my scourges vnto me? For I cosidre this sorow by my self, & I must suffre it,
10:20My tabernacle is destroyed, and all my coardes are broken. My children are gone fro me, ad can no where be founde. Now haue I none to sprede out my tente, or to set vp my hanginges.
10:21For the hyrdmen haue done folishly, that they haue not sought the LORDE. Therfore haue they dealt vnwisely with their catell, & all are scatred abrode.
10:22Beholde, the noyse is harde at honde, and greate sedicio out of the north: to make the cities of Iuda a wyldernesse, and a dwellinge place for Dragons.
10:23Now I knowe (o LORDE) that is not in mas power to ordre his owne waies, or to rule his owne steppes & goinges.
10:24Therfore chaste thou vs (o LORDE) but with fauoure, and not in thy wrath, bringe vs not vtterly to naught.
10:25Poure out thy indignacion rather vpon the Getiles, that knowe ye not, and vpon the people that call not on thy name: And that because they haue consumed, deuoured and destroyed Iacob, and haue roted out his glory.
