Jeremiah - Chapter: 16

>
16:1Thus sayde the Lord vnto me.
16:2Thou shalt take the no wyfe, ner beget chyldren in this place,
16:3For of the chyldren that are borne in this place, of theyr mothers that haue borne them, and of their fathers that haue begotten them in this lande thus sayeth the Lorde.
16:4They shall dye an horrible deeth, no man shall mourne for them ner bury them, but they shall lye as donge vpon the earth. They shall perishe thorow the swearde and honger, and theyr bodyes shall be meate for the foules of the ayre, and beastes of the earth.
16:5For thus saieth the Lorde: Go not thou in vnto them ner come to mourne and wepe for them: for I haue taken my peace from thys people (sayeth the Lorde) yee my fauoure & my mercy.
16:6And in this lande shall they dye, olde and yonge, and shall not be buried: no man shall bewepe them, no man shall clyppe or shaue him selfe for them.
16:7There shal not one viset another, to mourne wyth them for their deed, or to comforte them. One shal not offre another the cuppe of consolacyon, to forget theyr heuynes for father and mother.
16:8Thou shalt not go into theyr feast house, to syt downe, to eate or drincke with them.
16:9For thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes the God of Israell: Beholde, I shall take awaye out of this place, the voyce of myrth and gladnesse, the voyce of the brydegrome and of the bryde: yee, and that in youre dayes, that ye maye se it.
16:10Now when thou shewest this people all these wordes, & they saye vnto the. Wherfore hath the Lorde deuysed all thys greate plage for vs? Or what is the offence & synne, that we haue done agaynst the Lorde our God?
16:11Then make thou them this answere: Because youre fathers haue forsaken me (sayeth the Lorde) and haue walked after straunge goddes, whom they haue honoured and worshypped: but me haue they forsaken, and haue not kepte my lawe.
16:12And ye with your shamefull blasphemyes, haue exceaded the wyckednes of youre fathers. For euery one of you hath folowed the frowarde and euell ymaginacion of his awne herte, and is not obedient vnto me.
16:13Therfore wyll I cast you oute of thys lande, into a lande that ye and youre fathers knowe not: and there shall ye serue straunge goddes daye and nyght, there wyll I shewe you no fauoure.
16:14Beholde therfore (sayeth the Lorde) the dayes are come, that it shall nomore be sayde: The Lorde lyueth, which brought the children of Israel out of the lande of Egypte:
16:15but, it shall be sayde, the Lorde lyueth, that brought the children of Israell from the North, and from all landes where he had scatred them. For I wyl brynge them agayne into the lande, that I gaue vnto theyr fathers.
16:16Beholde (sayeth the Lorde) I wyl sende out many fyshers to take them, and after that wyll I sende out many hunters to hunte them out, from all mountaynes and hylles and out of the caues of stone.
16:17For myne eyes beholde al theyr wayes, and they cannot be hyd fro my face, nether can theyr wycked dedes be kepte close out of my syghte.
16:18But first wyll I sufficiently rewarde their shamefull blasphemies and synnes, because they haue defyled my lande: Namely with theyr stincking Idols & with the carayns of their abhominacions, wherwith they haue filled myne herytage.
16:19O Lorde, my strength, my power, and refuge in tyme of trouble. The Gentyles shall come vnto the from the endes of the worlde, and saye: Uerely our fathers haue cleaued vnto lyes, their Idols are but vayne & vnprofitable.
16:20How can a man make those his goddes, whyche are not able to be goddes?
16:21And therfore I will once teach them, sayeth the Lorde, I wyll shewe them my hande & my power, that they maye knowe, that my name is the Lorde.

16:1And the word of the Lord was maad to me,
16:2and seide, Thou schalt not take a wijf, and sones and douytris schulen not be to thee in this place.
16:3For the Lord seith these thingis on sones and douytris, that ben gendrid in this place, and on the modris of hem, that gendride hem, and on the fadris of hem, of whos generacioun thei ben borun in this lond.
16:4Thei schulen die bi dethis of sikenessis, thei schulen not be biweilid, and thei schulen not be biried; thei schulen be in to a dunghil on the face of erthe, and thei schulen be wastid bi swerd and hungur; and the careyn of hem schal be in to mete to the volatilis of heuene, and to beestis of erthe.
16:5For the Lord seith these thingis, Entre thou not in to an hous of feeste, nethir go thou to biweile, nether comfourte thou hem; for Y haue take awei my pees fro this puple, seith the Lord, `Y haue take awei merci and merciful doyngis.
16:6And greete and smalle schulen die in this lond; thei schulen not be biried, nethir schulen be biweilid; and thei schulen not kitte hem silf, nethir ballidnesse schal be maad for hem.
16:7And thei schulen not breke breed among hem to hym that mourneth, to coumforte on a deed man, and thei schulen not yyue to hem drynk of a cuppe, to coumforte on her fadir and modir.
16:8And thou schalt not entre in to the hous of feeste, that thou sitte with hem, and ete, and drynke.
16:9For whi the Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal take awei fro this place, bifore youre iyen and in youre daies, the vois of ioie, and the vois of gladnesse, and the vois of spouse, and the vois of spousesse.
16:10And whanne thou schalt telle alle these wordis to this puple, and thei schulen seie to thee, Whi spak the Lord al this greet yuel on vs? what is oure wickidnesse, ether what is oure synne which we synneden to oure Lord God?
16:11thou schalt seie to hem, For youre fadris forsoken me, seith the Lord, and yeden aftir alien goddis, and seruyden hem, and worschipiden hem, and thei forsoken me, and kepten not my lawe.
16:12But also ye wrouyten worse than youre fadris; for lo! ech man goith aftir the schrewidnesse of his yuel herte, that he here not me.
16:13And Y schal caste you out of this lond, in to the lond which ye and youre fadris knowen not; and ye schulen serue there to alien goddis dai and niyt, whiche schulen not yiue reste to you.
16:14Therfor lo! daies comen, seith the Lord, and it schal no more be seid, The Lord lyueth, that ledde the sones of Israel out of the lond of Egipt;
16:15but the Lord lyueth, that ledde the sones of Israel fro the lond of the north, and fro alle londis to whiche Y castide hem out; and Y schal lede hem ayen in to her lond which Y yaf to the fadris of hem.
16:16Lo! Y schal sende many fischeris to hem, seith the Lord, and thei schulen fische hem; and aftir these thingis Y schal sende many hunteris to hem, and thei schulen hunte hem fro ech mounteyn, and fro ech litil hil, and fro the caues of stoonys.
16:17For myn iyen ben on alle the weies of hem; tho weies ben not hid fro my face, and the wickidnesse of hem was not priuy fro myn iyen.
16:18And Y schal yelde first the double wickidnessis and synnes of hem, for thei defouliden my lond in the slayn beestis of her idols, and filliden myn eritage with her abhomynaciouns.
16:19Lord, my strengthe, and my stalworthnesse, and my refuyt in the dai of tribulacioun, hethene men schulen come to thee fro the fertheste places of erthe, and schulen seie, Verili oure fadris helden a leesyng in possessioun, vanyte that profitide not to hem.
16:20Whether a man schal make goddis to hym silf? and tho ben no goddis.
16:21Therfor lo! Y schal schewe to hem bi this while, Y schal schewe to hem myn hond, and my vertu; and thei schulen wite, that the name to me is Lord.

16:1Morouer, thus sayde the LORDE vnto me:
16:2Thou shalt take ye no wife, ner beget children in this place.
16:3For of the children that are borne in this place, of their mothers that haue borne them, and of their fathers that haue begotten them in this londe, thus saieth the LORDE:
16:4They shal dye an horrible deeth, no ma shal mourne for them, ner burie them, but they shal lye as doge vpon the earth. They shal perish thorow the swearde and honger, and their bodies shal be meate for the foules of the ayre, and beestes of the earth.
16:5Agayne, thus saieth the LORDE: Go not vnto them, that come together, for to mourne and wepe: for I haue taken my peace fro this people (saieth the LORDE) yee my fauoure and my mercy.
16:6And in this londe shal they dye, olde and yonge, and shall not be buried: no man shall bewepe them, no man shall clippe or shaue himselff for them.
16:7There shal not one viset another, to mourne with them for their deed, or to comforte them. One shall not offre another the cuppe off consolacion, to forget their heuynes for father and mother.
16:8Thou shalt not go in to their feast house, to syt downe, moch lesse to eate or drynke with them.
16:9For thus saieth the LORDE off hoostes the God off Israel: Beholde, I shall take awaye out of this place, the voyce off myrth ad gladnesse, the voyce off the brydegrome and off the bryde: yee and that in youre dayes, that ye maye se it.
16:10Now when thou shewest this people all these wordes, and they saye vnto the: Wherfore hath the LORDE deuysed all this greate plage for vs? Or what is the offence and synne, that we haue done agaynst the LORDE oure God?
16:11Then make thou them this answere: Because youre fathers haue forsaken me (saieth the LORDE) and haue cleued vnto straunge goddes, whom they haue honoured and worshipped: but me haue they forsake, and haue not kepte my lawe.
16:12And ye wt youre shamefull blasphemies, haue exceaded the wickednes off youre fathers. For euery one off you foloweth the frawerde euel ymaginacion off his owne hert, and is not obedient vnto me.
16:13Therfore wil I cast you out off this londe, in to a londe that ye and youre fathers knowe not: and there shall ye serue straunge goddes daye and night, there will I shewe you no fauoure.
16:14Beholde therfore (saieth the LORDE) the daies are come, that it shall nomore be sayed: The LORDE lyueth, which brought the children of Israel out of the lode of Egipte:
16:15but (it shall be sayde) the LORDE lyueth, that brought the children of Israel from the North, & from all londes where I had scatred them. For I wil bringe the agayne in to the lode, that I gaue vnto their fathers.
16:16Beholde, (saieth the LORDE) I will sende out many fishers to take them, and after yt wil I sende out many hunters to hunte the out, from all mountaynes and hilles ad out of the caues of stones.
16:17For myne eyes beholde all their wayes, and they can not be hyd fro my face, nether can their wicked dedes be kepte close out of my sight.
16:18But first will I sufficiently rewarde their shamefull blasphemies and synnes, wherwith they haue defyled my londe: Namely, with their stinckinge Idols and abhominacions, wherwt they haue fylled myne heretage.
16:19O LORDE, my strength, my power, and refuge in tyme off trouble. The Gentiles shall come vnto the from the endes off the worlde, and saye: Verely oure fathers haue cleued vnto lies, their Idols are but vayne and vnprofitable.
16:20How can a man make those his goddes, which are not able to be goddes?
16:21And therfore, I will once teach them (saieth ye LORDE) I wil shewe them my honde and my power, that they maye knowe, yt my name is ye LORDE.
