Jeremiah - Chapter: 25


25:1	A sermon that was geuen vnto Ieremy, vpon all the people of Iuda. In the fourth yeare of Iehoakim the sonne of Iosias kynge of Iuda that was in the fyrst yeare of Nabuchodonosor kyng of Babilon.
25:2	Which sermon, Ieremy the prophet made vnto all the people of Iuda, and to all the inhabitours of Ierusalem, on this maner.
25:3	From the thyrtene yeare of Iosias the sonne of Amon kynge of Iuda, vnto thys present daye (that is euen .xxiii. yeare) the worde of the Lorde hath bene committed vnto me. And so I haue spoken to you, I haue rysen vp early, I haue geuen you warnynge in season, but ye wolde not heare me.
25:4	Though the Lorde hath sent hys seruauntes, all the prophetes vnto you in season. Yet wolde ye not obeye, ye wolde not enclyne youre eares to heare.
25:5	He sayde turne agayne euery man from his euell waye, and from your wicked ymaginacions, and so shall ye dwell for euer in the lande, that the Lorde promised you & youre forefathers.
25:6	And go not after straunge goddes, serue them not, worship them not, and angre me not wyth the worckes of your handes: then wyl not I punish you.
25:7	Neuertheles ye wolde not heare me (sayth the Lord:) but haue defied me with the worckes of your handes, to your awne greate harme.
25:8	Wherfore thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes: Because ye haue not herkened vnto my worde,
25:9	lo, I wyll sende out, & call for all the people, that dwell in the North, sayeth the Lorde, and will prepayre Nabuchodonosor the kynge of Babylon my seruaunt, and will brynge them vpon this lande, and vpon all that dwell therin, and vpon all the people that are aboute them, and wyll vtterly rote them oute. I will make of them a wildernesse, a mockage, and a continuall deserte.
25:10	Moreouer, I wyll take from them the voyce of gladnesse and solace, the voyce of the brydegrome and the bryde, the voyce of the anoynted, with the creshettes:
25:11	and thys whole lande shall become a wyldernes, and these nacions shall serue the kynge of Babylon, threscore yeares and ten.
25:12	When the .lxx. yeares are expired, I wyll vyset also the wyckednesse of the kynge of Babylon and his people sayeth the Lorde: yee, and the lande of the Caldees, and wyll make it a perpetuall wyldernes,
25:13	and wyll fulfyll all my wordes vpon that lande, which I haue deuised agaynst it: yee, all that is written in this boke, which Ieremy hathe prophecyed of all people:
25:14	so that they also shall be subdued vnto diuers nacions & great kynges for I wyll recompense them, accordynge to theyr dedes and worckes of theyr awne handes.
25:15	For thus hath the Lorde God of Israel spoken vnto me: Take this wyne cuppe of indignacion fro my hande, that thou mayest cause all the people, to whom I send the, for to dryncke of it:
25:16	that when they haue droncken therof, they maye be mad, & out of their wyttes, when the swearde commeth, that I wyll sende amonge them.
25:17	Then toke I the cuppe from the Lordes hande, and made all people to dryncke therof, vnto whome the Lorde had sent me.
25:18	But fyrst the cytie of Ierusalem, & all the cyties of Iuda, their kynges and prynces, to make them desolate, wast, despysed, and hyssed at, and cursed, accordynge as it is come to passe this daye.
25:19	Yee, and Pharao the kinge of Egypte, his seruauntes, his princes and his people all together one wyth anoth
25:20	& all kynges of the lande of Hus, all kynges of the Philistines lande, Ascalon, Azah, Accaron and the remnaunt of Asdod,
25:21	the Edomites, the Moabites and the Ammonites
25:22	al the kynges of Tirus & Sidon: the kinges of the Iles that are beyonde the see:
25:23	Dedan, Thema, Buz & all them that dwell in the vttermost partes of the worlde:
25:24	all the kinges of Araby and (generally) all the kynges that dwel in the deserte:
25:25	al the kinges of Zamri, al the kynges of Elam, all the kinges of the Medees,
25:26	all kynges towarde the North, whether they be farre or nye, euery one agaynst his neyghbours: Yee, and all the kyngdomes that are vpon the whole earth. The kynge of Sezach sayde he shall dryncke with them also.
25:27	Therfore saye thou vnto them: Thys is the commaundement of the Lorde of Hostes the God of Israel: Drincke and be droncken, spewe and fall, that ye neuer ryse, and that thorowe the swearde, whych I wyll sende amonge you.
25:28	But yf they will not receaue the cuppe of thy hande, and dryncke it, then tell them: Thus doth the Lorde of Hostes threaten you: dryncke it ye shall, and that shortely.
25:29	For lo, I begynne to plage the cytye, that my name is geuen vnto: thincke ye then that I wyll leaue you vnpunished? Ye shal not go quyte, for why, I call for a swearde vpon all the inhabitours of the earth, sayeth the Lorde of Hostes.
25:30	Therfore tell them all these wordes and saye vnto them. The Lorde shall crye from aboue, and let his voyce be herde from hys holy habytacion. With a great noyse shall he crye from hys courte regall. He shall geue a great voyce, lyke the grape gatherers, and the sounde ther of shalbe hearde vnto the endes of the worlde.
25:31	For the Lorde hath a iudgement to geue vpon all people, & will holde his court of iustice with all flesh, and punish the vngodly, sayth the Lorde.
25:32	For thus sayth the Lord of hostes: Beholde, a miserable plage shall goo from one people to another, and a greate stormy water shall aryse from all the endes of the earth.
25:33	And the same daye shall the Lorde him selfe sleye them, from one ende of the earth to another. There shall no mone be made for eny of them, none gathered vp, none buryed: but shall lye as dunge vpon the grounde.
25:34	Mourne, O ye shepherdes, and crye: sprinkle youre selues with ashes, O ye rammes of the flocke: for the tyme of youre slaughter is fulfylled, that ye shall sleye one another, and you shalbe scatred, and ye shall fall lyke vessels connyngly made.
25:35	The shepherdes shall haue no waye to fle, and the rammes of the flocke shall not escape.
25:36	Then shall the shepherdes crye horryly, and the rammes of the flocke shall mourne? for the Lorde hath consumed their pasture,
25:37	and theyr best feldes lye deed because of the horryble wrath of the Lord.
25:38	They haue forsaken theyr foldes lyke as a lyon. For theyr lande is waste, because of his furiouse crueltye, and of his fearfull indignatyon.


25:1	The word of the Lord, that was maad to Jeremye, of al the puple of Juda, in the fourthe yeer of Joachym, the sone of Josie, the king of Juda, aftir that Jeconye was translatid in to Babiloyne; thilke is the firste yeer of Nabugodonosor, kyng of Babiloyne; which word Jeremy,
25:2	the prophete, spak to al the puple of Juda, and to alle the dwelleris of Jerusalem, and seide,
25:3	Fro the threttenthe yeer of the rewme of Josie, the sone of Amon, the kyng of Juda, `til to this dai, this is the three and twentithe yeer, the word of the Lord was maad to me; and Y spak to you, and Y roos bi niyt and spak, and ye herden not.
25:4	And the Lord sente to you alle hise seruauntis profetis, and roos ful eerli, and sente, and ye herden not, nether ye bowiden youre eeris, for to here;
25:5	whanne he seide, Turne ye ayen, ech man fro his yuel weie, and fro youre worste thouytis, and ye schulen dwelle in the lond whiche the Lord yaf to you, and to youre fadris, fro the world and til in to the world.
25:6	And nyle ye go aftir alien goddis, that ye serue hem, and worschipe hem, nether terre ye me to wrathfulnesse, in the werkis of youre hondis, and Y schal not turmente you.
25:7	And ye herden not me, seith the Lord, that ye terreden me to wrathfulnesse in the werkis of youre hondis, in to youre yuel.
25:8	Therfor the Lord of oostis seith these thingis, For that that ye herden not my wordis, lo!
25:9	Y schal sende, and take alle the kynredis of the north, seith the Lord, and Nabugodonosor, my seruaunt, the kyng of Babiloyne; and Y schal bringe hem on this lond, and on the dwelleris therof, and on alle naciouns, that ben in the cumpas therof; and Y schal sle hem, and Y schal sette hem in to wondryng, and in to hissyng, and in to euerlastynge wildirnessis.
25:10	And Y schal leese of hem the vois of ioye, and the vois of gladnesse, the vois of spouse, and the vois of spousesse, the vois of queerne, and the liyt of the lanterne.
25:11	And al the lond therof schal be in to wildirnesse, and in to wondring; and alle these folkis schulen serue the king of Babiloyne seuenti yeer.
25:12	And whanne seuenti yeer ben fillid, Y schal visite on the kyng of Babiloyne, and on that folc the wickidnesse of hem, seith the Lord, and on the lond of Caldeis, and Y schal set it in to euerlastynge wildirnesses.
25:13	And Y schal brynge on that lond alle my wordis whiche Y spak ayens it, al thing that is writun in this book; what euer thingis Jeremye profeside ayens alle folkis;
25:14	for thei serueden to hem, whanne thei weren many folkis, and grete kingis; and Y schal yelde to hem aftir the werkis of hem, and aftir the dedis of her hondis.
25:15	For the Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith thus, Take thou the cuppe of wyn of this woodnesse fro myn hond, and thou schal birle therof to alle hethene men, to whiche Y schal sende thee.
25:16	And thei schulen drynke, and schulen be disturblid, and schulen be woode of the face of swerd, which Y schal sende among hem.
25:17	And Y took the cuppe fro the hond of the Lord, and Y birlide to alle folkis, to whiche the Lord sente me;
25:18	to Jerusalem, and to alle the citees of Juda, and to the kyngis therof, and to the princes therof; that Y schulde yyue hem in to wildirnesse, and in to wondring, and in to hissyng, and in to cursing, as this dai is; to Farao,
25:19	the king of Egipt, and to hise seruauntis, and to hise princes, and to al hise puple;
25:20	and to alle men generali, to alle the kyngis of the lond Ansitidis, and to alle the kyngis of the lond of Filistiym, and to Ascalon, and to Gaza, and to Acoron, and to the residues of Azotus;
25:21	to Idumee, and to Moab, and to the sones of Amon;
25:22	and to alle the kyngis of Tirus, and to alle the kingis of Sidon, and to the kingis of the lond of ilis that ben biyendis the see;
25:23	and to Dedan, and Theman, and Buz, and to alle men that ben clippid on the long heer;
25:24	and to alle the kingis of Arabie, and to alle the kingis of the west, that dwellen in desert;
25:25	and to alle the kingis of Zambri, and to alle the kingis of Elam, and to alle the kyngis of Medeis; and to alle the kingis of the north,
25:26	of niy and of fer, to ech man ayens his brothir; and to alle the rewmes of erthe, that ben on the face therof; and kyng Sesac schal drynke after hem.
25:27	And thou schalt seie to hem, The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Drynke ye, and be ye drunkun, and spue ye, and falle ye doun, and nyle ye rise fro the face of swerd which Y schal sende among you.
25:28	And whanne thei nylen take the cuppe fro thin hond, that thei drynke, thou schalt seie to hem, The Lord of oostis seith these thingis, Ye drynkynge schulen drynke;
25:29	for lo! in the citee in which my name is clepid to help, Y bigynne to turmente, and schulen ye as innocentis be with out peyne? ye schulen not be with out peyne, for Y clepe swerd on alle the dwelleris of erthe, seith the Lord of oostis.
25:30	And thou schalt profesie to hem alle these wordis, and thou schalt seie to hem, The Lord schal rore fro an hiy, and fro his hooli dwellyng place he schal yyue his vois; he rorynge schal rore on his fairnesse; a myry song, as of men tredynge in pressouris, schal be sungun ayens alle dwelleris of erthe.
25:31	Sown is comun til to the laste partis of erthe, for whi doom is to the Lord with folkis, he is demed with ech fleisch; the Lord seith, Y haue youe wickid men to the swerd.
25:32	The Lord of oostis seith these thingis, Lo! turment schal go out fro folk in to folk, and a greet whirlwynd schal go out fro the endis of erthe.
25:33	And the slayn men of the Lord schulen be in that dai fro the ende of the erthe `til to the ende therof; thei schulen not be biweilid, nether schulen be gaderid togidere, nether schulen be biried; thei schulen ligge in to a dunghil on the face of erthe.
25:34	Yelle, ye scheepherdis, and crye, and, ye princypals of the floc, bispreynge you with aische; for youre daies ben fillid, that ye be slayn, and youre scateryngis ben fillid, and ye schulen falle as precious vessels.
25:35	And fleyng schal perische fro scheepherdis, and sauyng schal perische fro the principals of the floc.
25:36	The vois of the crye of scheepherdis, and the yellyng of the principals of the floc, for the Lord hath wastid the lesewis of hem.
25:37	And the feeldis of pees weren stille, for the face of wraththe of the strong veniaunce of the Lord.
25:38	He as a lion hath forsake his tabernacle, for the lond of hem is maad in to desolacioun, of the face of wraththe of the culuer, and of the face of wraththe of the strong veniaunce of the Lord.

25:2	Which sermone, Ieremy the prophet made vnto all the people of Iuda, & to all ye Inhabitours of Ierusale, on this maner:
25:3	From the xiij yeare of Iosias the sonne of Amon kinge of Iuda, vnto this present daye, (that is euen xxiij yeare) the worde of the LORDE hath bene committed vnto me. And so I haue spoke to you, I haue rysen vp early, I haue geue you warnynge in season, but ye wolde not heare me.
25:4	Though the LORDE hath sent his seruauntes, all the prophetes vnto you in season: Yet wolde ye not obeye, ye wolde not encline yor eares to heare.
25:5	He sayde: turne agayne euery man from his euell waye, & from youre wicked ymaginacions, & so shal ye dwell for euer in the londe, that the LORDE promised you & youre fore fathers:
25:6	And go not after straunge goddes, serue them not, worshipe them not, & angre me not with the workes of youre hodes: then will not I punysh you.
25:7	Neuertheles, ye wolde not heare me (saieth the LORDE) but haue defied me with the workes of youre hodes, to youre owne greate harme.
25:8	Wherfore, thus saieth the LORDE of hoostes: Because ye haue not herkened vnto my worde,
25:9	lo, I will sende out, & call for all the people, yt dwell in the north (saieth the LORDE) & wil prepayre Nabuchodonosor the kinge of Babilon my seruaunt, and wil bringe them vpon this londe, and vpon all yt dwell therein, & vpon all the people that are aboute them, and will vterly rote them out. I will make of them a wildernesse, a mockage, and a continuall deserte.
25:10	Morouer, I will take from them the voyce of gladnesse and solace, the voyce of the brydegrome & the bryde, the voyce of the anoynted, with the cre?shettes:
25:11	& this whole londe shal become a wildernes, & they shall serue the sayde people and the kinge of Babilon, thre score yeares and ten.
25:12	When the lxx yeares are expyred, I wil viset also the wickednesse of the kinge of Babylon & his people, saieth the LORDE: yee & the londe of the Caldees, & wil make it a perpetuall wildernes,
25:13	& wil fulfil all my wordes vpon that londe, which I haue deuysed agaynst it: yee all that is written in this boke, which Ieremy hath prophecied of all people:
25:14	so that they also shal be subdued vnto dyuerse nacions & greate kynges, for I wil recompense them, acordinge to their dedes & workes of their owne hondes.
25:15	For thus hath the LORDE God of Israel spoken vnto me: Take this wyne cuppe of indignacion fro my honde, that thou mayest cause all the people (to whom I sende the) for to drinke of it:
25:16	that when they haue dronke there of, they maye be madd, & out of their wyttes, when the swearde commeth, that I wil sende amoge them.
25:17	Then toke I the cuppe from the LORDES honde, & made all the people drynke there of, vnto whom the LORDE had sent me.
25:18	But first the cite of Ierusalem, & all the cities of Iuda, their kinges & prynces: to make the desolate, waist, despysed & cursed, acordinge as it is come to passe this daye.
25:19	Yee & Pharao ye kinge of Egipte, his seruauntes, his prynces & his people altogether one wt another
25:20	and all kinges of the londe of Hus, all kinges of the Philistynes londe, Ascalon, Gaza, Accaron & the remnaunt of A?dod,
25:21	the Edomites, the Moabites & the Ammonites:
25:22	all the kinges of Tirus & Sidon: the kinges of the Iles, that are beyonde the see:
25:23	Dedan, Thema, Buz & the shauen Ismaelites:
25:24	all the kinges of Araby, & (generally) all the kinges that dwell in the deserte:
25:25	all the kinges of Simri, all the kinges of Elam, all ye kinges of the Meedes,
25:26	all kinges towarde the north (whether they be farre or nye) euery one with his neghbours: Yee and all the kingdomes that are vpon the whole earth. The kinge of Sesach (sayde he) shal drinke with them also.

With a greate noyse shall he crie from his courte regall. He shal geue a greate voyce (like the grape gatherers) and the sounde thereof shalbe herde vnto the endes of the worlde.

25:35	The shepherdes shall haue no waye to fle, and the rammes of the flocke shall not escape.
25:36	Then shal the shepherdes crie horribly, and the rammes of the flocke shal mourne: for the LORDE shal consume their pasture,
25:37	and their best feldes shal lie deed because of the horrible wrath of the LORDE.
25:38	They shall forsake their foldes like as a lyon: For their londes shalbe waist, because of the wrath of the destroyer, and because of his fearfull indignacion.
