Jeremiah - Chapter: 36

>
36:1And it came to passe in the fourth yeere of Iehoiakim the sonne of Iosiah king of Iudah, that this word came vnto Ieremiah from the Lord, saying;
36:2Take thee a roule of a booke, and write therein all the words that I haue spoken vnto thee against Israel, and against Iudah, & against all the nations, from the day I spake vnto thee, fro the dayes of Iosiah, euen vnto this day.
36:3It may be that the house of Iudah will heare all the euil which I purpose to doe vnto them; that they may returne euery man from his euill way, that I may forgiue their iniquitie, and their sinne.
36:4Then Ieremiah called Baruch the sonne of Neriah, and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Ieremiah all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken vnto him, vpon a roule of a booke.
36:5And Ieremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut vp, I cannot goe into the house of the Lord.
36:6Therefore goe thou and reade in the roule, which thou hast written from my mouth, the wordes of the Lord in the eares of the people in the Lords house vpon the fasting day: and also thou shalt reade them in the eares of all Iudah, that come out of their cities.
36:7It may bee they will present their supplication before the Lord, and will returne euery one from his euill way; for great is the anger and the furie that the Lord hath pronounced against this people.
36:8And Baruch the sonne of Neriah did according to all that Ieremiah the Prophet commanded him, reading in the booke the wordes of the Lord, in the Lords house.
36:9And it came to passe in the fifth yeere of Iehoiakim the sonne of Iosiah king of Iudah, in the ninth moneth, that they proclaimed a fast before the Lord to all the people in Ierusalem, & to all the people that came from the cities of Iudah vnto Ierusalem.
36:10Then read Baruch in the booke, the wordes of Ieremiah in the house of the Lord, in the chamber of Gemariah the sonne of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court at the entry of the newe gate of the Lords house, in the eares of all the people.
36:11When Michaiah the sonne of Gemariah the sonne of Shaphan had heard out of the booke, all the words of the Lord;
36:12Then hee went downe into the kings house into the scribes chamber, and loe, all the princes sate there, euen Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the sonne of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the sonne of Achbor, and Gemariah the sonne of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the sonne of Hananiah, and all the princes.
36:13Then Michaiah declared vnto them all the words that hee had heard when Baruch read the booke in the eares of the people.
36:14Therefore all the princes sent Iehudi the sonne of Nethaniah, the sonne of Shelemiah, the sonne of Cushi, vnto Baruch, saying; Take in thine hand the roule wherein thou hast read in the eares of the people, and come. So Baruch the sonne of Neriah took the roule in his hand, and came vnto them.
36:15And they sayde vnto him, Sit downe now and read it in our eares. So Baruch read it in their eares.
36:16Now it came to passe when they had heard all the words, they were afraid both one and other, and sayd vnto Baruch, Wee will surely tell the King of all these words.
36:17And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell vs now, How diddest thou write all these words at his mouth?
36:18Then Baruch answered them, Hee pronounced all these words vnto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with inke in the Booke.
36:19Then said the Princes vnto Baruch, Go hide thee, thou and Ieremiah, and let no man know where yee bee.
36:20And they went in to the King into the Court, bnt they layed vp the roule in the chamber of Elishama the Scribe, and told all the words in the eares of the king.
36:21So the king sent Iehudi to fet the roule, and hee tooke it out of Elishama the scribes chamber, and Iehudi read it in the eares of the king, and in the eares of all the princes which stood beside the king.
36:22Now the king sate in the winter house, in the ninth moneth, & there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.
36:23And it came to passe that when Iehudi had read three or foure leaues, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, vntill all the roule was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.
36:24Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his seruants that heard all these words.
36:25Neuerthelesse Elnathan, and Delaiah & Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burne the roule, but he would not heare them.
36:26But the king commaunded Ierahmeel the sonne of Hammelech, and Seraiah the sonne of Azriel, & Shelennah the sonne of Abdiel, to take Baruch the scribe, and Ieremiah the Prophet: but the Lord hid them.
36:27Then the word of the Lord came to Ieremiah (after that the king had burnt the roule and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Ieremiah) saying;
36:28Take thee againe another roule, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roule, which Iehoiakim the king of Iudah hath burnt.
36:29And thou shalt say to Iehoiakim king of Iudah, Thus sayth the Lord, Thou hast burnt this roule, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainely come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from thence man and beast?
36:30Therefore thus saith the Lord of Iehoiakim king of Iudah; He shall haue none to sit vpon the throne of Dauid, and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heate, and in the night to the frost.
36:31And I will punish him and his seede, and his seruants for their iniquitie, and I will bring vpon them, and vpon the inhabitants of Ierusalem, and vpon the men of Iudah all the euill that I haue pronounced against them: but they hearkened not.
36:32Then tooke Ieremiah another roule, and gaue it to Baruch the scribe the sonne of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Ieremiah, all the words of the booke which Iehoiakim king of Iudah had burnt in the fire, and there were added besides vnto them, many like words.

36:1And in the fourth yeere of Iehoiakim the sonne of Iosiah King of Iudah, came this word vnto Ieremiah from the Lord, saying,
36:2Take thee a roule or booke, and write therein all the wordes that I haue spoken to thee against Israel, and against Iudah, and against all the nations, from the day that I spake vnto thee, euen from the dayes of Iosiah vnto this day.
36:3It may bee that the House of Iudah will heare of all the euill, which I determined to doe vnto them that they may returne euery man from his euil way, that I may forgiue their iniquitie and their sinnes.
36:4Then Ieremiah called Baruch the sonne of Neriah, and Baruch wrote at the mouth of Ieremiah all the wordes of the Lord, which hee had spoken vnto him, vpon a roule or booke.
36:5And Ieremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut vp, and can not go into the House of the Lord.
36:6Therefore goe thou, and reade the roule wherein thou hast written at my mouth the words of the Lord in the audience of the people in the Lordes House vpon the fasting day: also thou shalt reade them in the hearing of all Iudah, that come out of their cities.
36:7It may be that they will pray before the Lord, and euery one returne from his euill way, for great is the anger and the wrath, that the Lord hath declared against this people.
36:8So Baruch the sonne of Neriah did according vnto all, that Ieremiah the Prophet commanded him, reading in the booke the wordes of the Lord in the Lords House.
36:9And in the fift yeere of Iehoiakim the sonne of Iosiah King of Iudah, in the ninth moneth, they proclaimed a fast before the Lord to all the people in Ierusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Iudah vnto Ierusalem.
36:10Then read Baruch in the booke the wordes of Ieremiah in the house of the Lord, in the chamber of Gemariah the sonne of Shaphan the secretarie, in the hier court at the entrie of the new gate of the Lordes house, in the hearing of all the people.
36:11When Michaiah the sonne of Gemariah, the sonne of Shaphan had heard out of the booke all the wordes of the Lord,
36:12Then hee went downe to the Kings house into the Chancellours chamber, and loe, all the princes sate there, euen Elishama the Chancellour, and Delaiah the sonne of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the sonne of Achbor, and Gemariah the sonne of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the sonne of Hananiah, and all the princes.
36:13Then Michaiah declared vnto them all the wordes that he had heard when Baruch read in the booke in the audience of the people.
36:14Therefore all the princes sent Iehudi the sonne of Nethaniah, the sonne of Shelemiah, the sonne of Chushi, vnto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hande the roule, wherein thou hast read in the audience of the people, and come. So Baruch the sonne of Neriah, tooke the roule in his hand, and came vnto them.
36:15And they saide vnto him, Sit downe now, and reade it, that we may heare. So Baruch read it in their audience.
36:16Now when they had heard all the wordes, they were afraid both one and other, and said vnto Baruch, We will certifie the King of all these wordes.
36:17And they examined Baruch, saying, Tell vs nowe, howe diddest thou write all these wordes at his mouth?
36:18Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these wordes vnto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ynke in the booke.
36:19Then saide the princes vnto Baruch, Goe, hide thee, thou and Ieremiah, and let no man knowe where ye be.
36:20And they went in to the King to the court, but they layde vp the roule in the chamber of Elishama the Chancellour and tolde the King all the wordes, that he might heare.
36:21So the King sent Iehudi to fet the roule, and he tooke it out of Elishama the Chancellours chamber, and Iehudi read it in the audience of the King, and in the audience of all the princes, which stoode beside the King.
36:22Nowe the King sate in the winter House, in the ninth moneth, and there was a fire burning before him.
36:23And when Iehudi had read three, or foure sides, hee cut it with the penknife and cast it into the fire, that was on the hearth vntil all the roule was consumed in the fire, that was on the hearth.
36:24Yet they were not afraide, nor rent their garmets, neither the King, nor any of his seruants, that heard all these wordes.
36:25Neuerthelesse, Elnathan, and Delaiah, and Gemariah had besought the King, that he would not burne ye roule: but he would not heare them.
36:26But the King commanded Ierahmeel the sonne of Hammelech, and Seraiah the sonne of Azriel, and Shelemiah the sonne of Abdiel, to take Baruch the scribe, and Ieremiah the Prophet, but the Lord hid them.
36:27Then the word of the Lord came to Ieremiah (after that the King had burnt the roule and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Ieremiah) saying,
36:28Take thee againe another roule and write in it all ye former words that were in the first roule which Iehoiakim the King of Iudah hath burnt,
36:29And thou shalt say to Iehoiakim King of Iudah, Thus saith the Lord, Thou hast burnt this roule, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, that the King of Babel shall certainly come and destroye this land, and shall take thence both man and beast?
36:30Therefore thus saith the Lord of Iehoiakim King of Iudah, Hee shall haue none to sit vpon the throne of Dauid, and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heate, and in the night to the frost.
36:31And I will visite him and his seede, and his seruants for their iniquitie, and I will bring vpon them, and vpon the inhabitants of Ierusalem, and vpon the men of Iudah all the euil that I haue pronounced against them: but they would not heare.
36:32Then tooke Ieremiah another roule, and gaue it Baruch the scribe the sonne of Neriah, which wrote therein at the mouth of Ieremiah all the wordes of the booke which Iehoiakim King of Iudah had burnt in the fire, and there were added besides them many like wordes.

36:1In the fourth yeare of Iehoakim the sonne of Iosiah Kynge of Iuda, came the worde of the Lord vnto Ieremy, sayinge.
36:2Take a boke, and wryte therin all the wordes, that I haue spoken to the, agaynst Israel agaynst Iuda, and agaynst all the people, from the tyme that I beganne for to speake vnto the (in the raygne of Iosiah) vnto thys daye.
36:3That when the house of Iuda heareth of the plage, which I haue deuysed for them, they maye peraduenture turne, euery man from hys wycked waye, that I maye forgeue theyr offences and synnes.
36:4Then dyd Ieremy call Baruch the sonne of Neriah, and Baruch wrote in the boke at the mouth of Ieremy, all the wordes of the Lorde, which he had spoken vnto hym.
36:5And Ieremy commaunded Baruch, sayinge: I am in preson, so that I maye not come into the house of the Lorde:
36:6therfore go thou thyther, and reade the boke, that thou hast wryten at my mouth: Namely, the wordes of the Lord and rede them in the Lordes house vpon the fastynge daye, that the people, whole Iuda, and all they that come out of the cities, maye heare.
36:7Peraduenture they wyll praye mekely before the face of the Lorde, & turne euery one from hys wycked waye. For greate is the wrath and displeasure, that the Lorde hath taken agaynst this people:
36:8So Baruch the sonne of Neriah dyd, accordinge vnto all that Ieremy the Prophete commaunded him, readinge the wordes of the Lorde out of the boke in the Lordes house.
36:9And this was done in the fyft yeare of Iehoakim the sonne of Iosiah kynge of Iuda, in the .ix. moneth when it was commaunded, that all the people of Ierusalem shulde fast before the Lord, and they also that were come from the cyties of Iuda vnto Ierusalem.
36:10Then redde Baruch the wordes of Ieremy out of the boke with in the house of the Lord out of the treasury of Gamariah the sonne of Saphan the Scribe, which is besyde the hyer lofte of the newe dore of the Lordes house: that all the people myght heare.
36:11Nowe when Micheah the sonne of Gamariah the sonne of Saphan had hearde all the wordes of the Lorde out of the boke,
36:12he wente downe to the kynges palace into the Scrybes chambres, for there all the Prynces were set. Elysama the Scribe, Dalaiah the sonne of Semei, Elnathan the sonne of Achbor, Gamariah the sonne of Saphan, Zedekiah the sonne of Hananiah, with all the Prynces.
36:13And Micheah tolde them all the wordes, that he hearde Baruch reade out of the boke before the people.
36:14Then all the princes sent Iehudi the sonne of Nathaniah, the sonne of Selamiah, the sonne of Chusi, vnto Baruch, saying. Take in thyne hande the boke, wherout thou hast red before all the people, and come. So Baruch the sonne of Neriah toke the boke in his hande, & came vnto them.
36:15And they sayd vnto him. Syt downe, & rede the boke that we maye heare also. So Baruch redd that they might here.
36:16Nowe when they had hearde all the wordes, they were abashed one vpon another, and sayde vnto Baruch. We wyll certifye the kinge of all these wordes.
36:17And they examyned Baruch, sayinge: tell vs, howe dydest thou write all these wordes out of hys mouth?
36:18Then Baruch answered them: He spake all these wordes vnto me with his mouth, & I wrote them in the boke.
36:19Then sayde the princes vnto Baruch: Go thy waye, & hyde the with Ieremy, so that no man knowe where ye be.
36:20And they went into the kyng to the courte. But they kept the boke in the chambre of Elisama the Scribe, & tolde the kyng all the wordes that he myght heare.
36:21So the kyng sent Iehudi to fetch him the boke which he brought out of Elysama the Scribes chambre. And Iehudi red in it, that the kynge and all the prynces, which were aboute him, myght heare.
36:22Nowe the kynge sat in the wynter house, for it was in the .ix. Moneth & there was a fyre before him.
36:23And when Iehudi had redde thre or foure leaues therof, he cut the boke in peces with a penne knyfe, and cast it into the fyre vpon the harth, vntyll the boke was all brente in the fyre vpon the harth.
36:24Yet no man was abashed therof, or rente his clothes: nether the kynge hym selfe, ner his seruauntes, though they hearde all these wordes.
36:25Neuerthelesse Elnathan, Dalaiah, & Gamariah besought the kynge, that he wolde not burne the boke: not withstandynge the kynge wolde not heare them,
36:26but commaunded Ierahmael the sonne of Amalech, Saraiah the sonne of Ezriel & Selamiah the sonne of Abdiel, to laye handes vpon Baruch the Scrybe, and vpon Ieremy the Prophete: but the Lorde kepte them out of syght.
36:27After nowe that the kynge had brent the boke, & the sermons which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Ieremy: The worde of the Lord came vnto Ieremye, sayinge.
36:28Take another boke, and wryte in it all the forsayde sermons: that were wryten in the fyrst boke, which Iehoakim the kynge of Iuda hath brente.
36:29And tell Iehoakim the kynge of Iuda: thus sayeth the Lorde: thou hast brente the boke, & thoughtest within thy selfe. Why hast thou wryten therin, that the kynge of Babylon shall come, and make thys lande waste: so that he shall make both people and catell to be out of it?
36:30Therfore thus the Lorde sayeth of Iehoakim the kyng of Iuda. There shall none of hys generacyon syt vpon the throne of Dauid. Hys deed corse shalbe cast oute, that the heate of the daye, and the frost of the nyght maye come vpon hym.
36:31And I wyll vyset the wyckednes of hym, of his sede, & of hys seruauntes, Moreouer, all the euell that I haue promysed them (though they herde me not) wyll I bringe vpon them, vpon the inhabitoures of Ierusalem, and vpon all Iuda.
36:32Then toke Ieremy another boke, and gaue it Baruch the Scribe the sonne of Neriah, whiche wrote therin out of the mouth of Ieremy: all the sermons that were in the fyrst boke, which Iehoakim the kyng of Iuda dyd burne. And there were added vnto them many mo sermons, then before.
