Jeremiah - Chapter: 37

>
37:1And king Zedekiah the sonne of Iosiah reigned in stead of Coniah the son of Iehoiakim, who Nebuchad-rezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Iudah.
37:2But neither he, nor his seruants, nor the people of the land, did hearken vnto the words of the Lord, which he spake by the prophet Ieremiah.
37:3And Zedekiah the king sent Iehucal the sonne of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Ieremiah, saying, Pray now vnto the Lord our God for vs.
37:4Nowe Ieremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.
37:5Then Pharaohs armie was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Caldeans that besieged Ierusalem, heard tidings of them, they departed from Ierusalem.
37:6Then came the word of the Lord vnto the Prophet Ieremiah, saying,
37:7Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, Thus shall ye say to the king of Iudah, that sent you vnto me to enquire of me, Behold, Pharaohs armie which is come forth to helpe you, shall returne to Egypt into their owne land.
37:8And the Caldeans shall come againe, and fight against this citie and take it, and burne it with fire.
37:9Thus saith the Lord, Deceiue not your selues, saying, The Caldeans shall surely depart from vs: for they shall not depart.
37:10For though yee had smitten the whole armie of the Caldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise vp euery man in his tent, and burne this citie with fire.
37:11And it came to passe that when the armie of the Caldeans was broken vp from Ierusalem for feare of Pharaohs armie,
37:12Then Ieremiah went forth out of Ierusalem to goe into the lande of Beniamin, to separate himselfe thence in the mids of the people.
37:13And when he was in the gate of Beniamin, a captaine of the warde was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the sonne of Hananiah, & he tooke Ieremiah the Prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Caldeans
37:14Then said Ieremiah, It is false, I fall not away to the Caldeans: but he hearkened not to him: so Irijah tooke Ieremiah, and brought him to the princes.
37:15Wherfore the princes were wroth with Ieremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison, in the house of Ionathan the scribe, for they had made that the prison.
37:16When Ieremiah was entred into the dungeon, and into the cabbins, and Ieremiah had remained there many dayes:
37:17Then Zedekiah the king sent and tooke him out, and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the Lord ? and Ieremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be deliuered into the hand of the king of Babylon.
37:18Moreouer Ieremiah sayd vnto king Zedekiah, What haue I offended against thee, or against thy seruants, or against this people, that yee haue put me in prison?
37:19Where are now your prophets, which prophecied vnto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?
37:20Therefore heare now, I pray thee, O my Lord the king; let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee, that thou cause me not to returne to the house of Ionathan the scribe, lest I die there.
37:21Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Ieremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should giue him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers streete, vntill all the bread in the citie were spent. Thus Ieremiah remained in the court of the prison.

37:1And King Zedekiah the sonne of Iosiah reigned for Coniah the sonne of Iehoiakim, whome Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel made King in the land of Iudah.
37:2But neither he, nor his seruants, nor the people of the land would obey the wordes of the Lord, which he spake by the ministerie of the Prophet Ieremiah.
37:3And Zedekiah the King sent Iehucal the sonne of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the sonne of Maaseiah the Priest to the Prophet Ieremiah, saying, Pray now vnto the Lord our God for vs.
37:4(Now Ieremiah went in and out among the people: for they had not put him into the prison.
37:5Then Pharaohs hoste was come out of Egypt: and when the Caldeans that besieged Ierusalem, heard tidings of them, they departed from Ierusalem)
37:6Then came the worde of the Lord vnto the Prophet Ieremiah, saying,
37:7Thus sayth the Lord God of Israel, Thus shall ye say to the King of Iudah, that sent you vnto me to inquire of me, Behold, Pharaohs hoste, which is come forth to helpe you, shall returne to Egypt into their owne land.
37:8And the Caldeans shall come againe, and fight against this citie, and take it and burne it with fire.
37:9Thus sayth the Lord, Deceiue not your selues, saying, The Caldeans shall surely depart from vs: for they shall not depart.
37:10For though ye had smitten the whole hoste of the Caldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should euery man rise vp in his tent, and burne this citie with fire.
37:11When the hoste of the Caldeans was broken vp from Ierusalem, because of Pharaohs armie,
37:12Then Ieremiah went out of Ierusalem to goe into the land of Beniamin, separating himselfe thence from among the people.
37:13And when hee was in the gate of Beniamin, there was a chiefe officer, whose name was Iriiah, the sonne of Shelemiah, the sonne of Hananiah, and he tooke Ieremiah the Prophet, saying, Thou fleest to the Caldeans.
37:14Then sayde Ieremiah, That is false, I flee not to the Caldeans: but he would not heare him: so Iriiah tooke Ieremiah, and brought him to the princes.
37:15Wherefore the princes were angry with Ieremiah, and smote him, and layde him in prison in the house of Iehonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.
37:16When Ieremiah was entred into the dungeon, and into the prisons, and had remained there a long time,
37:17Then Zedekiah the King sent, and tooke him out, and the King asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any worde from the Lord? And Ieremiah sayd, Yea: for, sayd he, thou shalt be deliuered into the hand of the King of Babel.
37:18Moreouer, Ieremiah sayd vnto King Zedekiah, What haue I offended against thee, or against thy seruants, or against this people, that ye haue put me in prison?
37:19Where are nowe your prophets, which prophecied vnto you, saying, The King of Babel shall not come against you, nor against this land?
37:20Therefore heare nowe, I pray thee, O my lorde the King: let my prayer be accepted before thee, that thou cause mee not to returne to the house of Iehonathan the scribe, least I die there.
37:21Then Zedekiah the King commanded, that they should put Ieremiah in the court of the prison, and that they should giue him dayly a piece of bread out of the bakers streete vntill all the bread in the citie were eaten vp. Thus Ieremiah remained in the court of the prison.

37:1Zedekiah the sonne of Iosiah which was made kynge thorowe Nabuchodonosor kynge of Babylon, reigned in the lande of Iuda, in the steade of Cononiah the sonne of Iehoakim.
37:2But nether he, ner hys seruauntes, ner the people in the lande wolde obeye the wordes of the Lorde, which he spake by the Prophet Ieremy.
37:3Neuerthelesse, Zedekiah the kyng sent Iehucal the sonne of Selemiah & Sophoniah the sonne of Maasiah the Prest to the Prophet Ieremy, saying: O praye thou vnto the Lorde oure God for vs
37:4Nowe Ieremy walked fre amonge the people at that tyme, and was not put in preson as yet.
37:5Pharaos hoste also was come out of Egypte: which when the Caldees that beseged Ierusalem perceaued, they departed from thence.
37:6Then came the worde of the Lorde vnto Ieremy the Prophet, sayinge:
37:7Thus sayeth the Lorde God of Israel, thys answere shall ye geue to the kynge of Iuda, that sent you vnto me for councell: Beholde, Pharaos hoste which is come forth to helpe you, shall returne to Egypte into his awne lande:
37:8but the Caldees shall come agayne, and fyght agaynst thys cytie, wynne it, and sett fyre vpon it.
37:9For thus sayeth the Lorde, disceaue not youre awne myndes, thynckinge on this maner: tush, the Caldees go now their waye from vs. No, they shall not go theyr waye.
37:10For though ye had slayne the whole hoste of the Caldees, that besege you, and euery one of the slayne laye in his tente, yet shulde they stande vp, and set fyre vpon thys cyte.
37:11Now when the hoste of the Caldees was broken vp from Ierusalem, for feare of the Egypcyans armye,
37:12Ieremye went out of Ierusalem towarde the lande of BenIamin, to get hym from amonge the people.
37:13And when he came vnder BenIamyns porte, there was a porter, called Ieriah, the sonne of Selemiah the sonne of Hananiah, which fell vpon him, and toke him sayinge: thy mynde is to runne to the Caldees.
37:14Then sayde Ieremy: It is not so, I go not to the Caldees. Neuertheles, Ieriah wolde not beleue hym, but brought Ieremy bounde before the Princes.
37:15Wherfore the princes were angrye with Ieremy, and smote him, and layed hym in preson in the house of Ionathas the scribe. For he was the rular of the preson.
37:16Thus was Ieremy put into the dongeon and preson, and so laye there a longe tyme.
37:17Then Zedekiah the kyng sent for him, and called him, and asked hym quyetly in his awne house, sayinge: thynkest thou this busynes (that now is in hande) commeth of the Lorde? Ieremy answered: yee, that it doth: and thou (sayed he) shalt be delyuered into the kynge of Babylons power.
37:18Moreouer, Ieremy sayde vnto kynge Zedekiah. What haue I offended agaynst the, against thy seruauntes, or agaynst thys people, that ye haue put me in preson?
37:19Where are youre prophetes which haue prophecyed vnto you, & sayde, that the kynge of Babylon shulde not come agaynst you & this lande?
37:20And therfore heare nowe, O my Lorde the kynge: let my prayer be accepte before the, and sende me nomore into the house of Ionathas the Scrybe, that I dye not there.
37:21Then Zedekias the kynge commaunded to put Ieremy in the fore entrye of the preson, and dayly to be geuen hym a cake of bread out of the bakers streate vntyll all the bread in the cytie was eaten vp. Thus Ieremy remayned in the fore entry in the preson.
