Jeremiah - Chapter: 48

>
48:1Against Moab thus sayth the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, Woe vnto Nebo, for it is spoiled: Kiriathaim is confounded and taken. Misgab is confounded and dismayed.
48:2There shall bee no more prayse of Moab: in Heshbon they haue deuised euill against it; come and let vs cut it off from being a nation; also thou shalt bee cut downe, O Madmen, the sword shall pursue thee.
48:3A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim; Spoiling & great destruction.
48:4Moab is destroyed, her little ones haue caused a crie to be heard.
48:5For in the going vp of Luhith continuall weeping shall go vp; for in the going downe of Horonaim the enemies haue heard a crie of destruction.
48:6Flee, saue your liues, and be like the heath in the wildernesse.
48:7For because thou hast trusted in thy workes, and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken, and Chemosh shall goe foorth into captiuitie with his priests and his princes together.
48:8And the spoyler shall come vpon euery citie, and no citie shall escape: the valley also shal perish, & the plaine shall be destroyed, as ye Lord hath spoken.
48:9Giue wings vnto Moab, that it may flee and get away: for the cities thereof shalbe desolate, without any to dwell therein.
48:10Cursed be he that doeth the worke of the Lord deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth backe his sword from blood.
48:11Moab hath bene at ease from his youth, and hee hath setled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessell to vessell, neither hath he gone into captiuitie: therefore his taste remained in him, and his sent is not changed.
48:12Therfore behold, the dayes come, sayth the Lord, that I will send vnto him wanderers that shall cause him to wander, and shall emptie his vessels, and breake their bottles.
48:13And Moab shall bee ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.
48:14How say yee, We are mightie and strong men for the warre?
48:15Moab is spoiled and gone vp out of her cities, and his chosen yong men are gone downe to the slaughter, sayth the King, whose Name is the Lord of hostes.
48:16The calamitie of Moab is neere to come, and his affliction hasteth fast.
48:17All yee that are about him bemoane him, and all yee that know his Name, say, How is the strong staffe broken, and the beautifull rod!
48:18Thou daughter that doest inhabit Dibon, come downe from thy glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Moab shall come vpon thee, and he shall destroy thy strong holdes.
48:19O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way and espie, aske him that fleeth, and her that escapeth, and say, What is done?
48:20Moab is confounded, for it is broken downe: howle and cry, tell ye it in Arnon, that Moab is spoiled,
48:21And iudgement is come vpon the plaine countrey, vpon Holon, and vpon Iahazah, and vpon Mephaath,
48:22And vpon Dibon, and vpon Nebo, and vpon Beth-diblathaim,
48:23And vpon Kiriathaim, and vpon Beth-Gamul, and vpon Beth-meon,
48:24And vpon Kerioth, and vpon Bozrah, and vpon all the cities of the land of Moab farre or neere.
48:25The horne of Moab is cut off, & his arme is broken, saith the Lord.
48:26Make ye him drunken: for hee magnified himselfe against the Lord: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shalbe in derision.
48:27For was not Israel a derision vnto thee? was hee found among theeues? for since thou spakest of him, thou skippedst for ioy.
48:28O yee that dwell in Moab, leaue the cities and dwell in the rocke, and be like the doue that maketh her nest in the sides of the holes mouth.
48:29We haue heard the pride of Moab, (he is exceeding proud) his loftinesse and his arrogancie, and his pride, and the hautinesse of his heart.
48:30I knowe his wrath, sayeth the Lord, but it shall not be so, his lyes shall not so effect it.
48:31Therefore will I howle for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab, mine heart shall mourne for the men of Kir-heres.
48:32O vine of Sibmah, I wil weepe for thee, with the weeping of Iazer; thy plants are gone ouer the sea, they reach euen to the sea of Iazer, the spoiler is fallen vpon thy summer fruits, and vpon thy vintage.
48:33And ioy and gladnesse is taken from the plentifull field, and from the land of Moab, and I haue caused wine to faile from the winepresses, none shall tread with shouting, their showting shall be no showting.
48:34From the cry of Heshbon euen vnto Elealeh, and euen vnto Iahaz haue they vttered their voyce, from Zoar euen vnto Horonaim as an heifer of three yeeres old: for the waters also of Nimrim shall be desolate.
48:35Moreouer, I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the Lord, him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his Gods.
48:36Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kir-heres: because the riches that hee hath gotten is perished.
48:37For euery head shall be bald, and euery beard clipt: vpon all the hands shall be cuttings, and vpon the loines sackcloth.
48:38There shall be lamentation generally vpon all the house toppes of Moab, and in the streetes thereof: for I haue broken Moab like a vessell, wherin is no pleasure, saith the Lord.
48:39They shall howle, saying; How is it broken downe? how hath Moab turned the backe with shame? so shall Moab be a derision, and a dismaying to all them about him.
48:40For thus saith the Lord, Behold, hee shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread his wings ouer Maob.
48:41Kerioth is taken, and the strong holds are surprised, & the mighty mens hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
48:42And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himselfe against the Lord.
48:43Feare, and the pit, and the snare shall be vpon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the Lord.
48:44Hee that fleeth from the feare shall fall into the pit, and he that getteth vp out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring vpon it, euen vpon Moab, the yeere of their visitation, saith the Lord.
48:45They that fled, stood vnder the shadow of Heshbon, because of the force: but a fire shall come forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the middest of Sihon, and shall deuoure the corner of Moab, and the crowne of the head of the tumultuous ones.
48:46Woe be vnto thee, O Moab, the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sonnes are taken captiues, and thy daughters captiues.
48:47Yet will I bring againe the captiuitie of Moab in the later dayes, saith the Lord. Thus farre is the iudgement of Moab.

48:1Thus saith the Lorde of hoastes the God of Israel against Moab: Wo be to the citie of Nebo, for it is layde waste, brought to confusion, and Kiriathaim is taken: Misgab is brought to shame and afraide
48:2Moab can boast no more of Hesbon, for they haue deuised a mischiefe against it: Come shall they say let vs roote them out, that they may be no more a nation, thou also shalt be destroyed O Madmena, and the sworde shall persecute thee
48:3A voyce shall crye from Horonaim: Great wasting and destruction shall come vpon them
48:4Moab is made desolate, her litle ones haue cryed out
48:5For at the going vp vnto Luith he arose with lamentation and mourning, and downe towarde Horonaim they hearde a cruel and deadly crye
48:6Get you away, saue your liues, and be lyke vnto the heath in the wyldernesse
48:7For because thou hast trusted in thine owne workes and treasure, thou shalt be taken: Chamos with his priestes and princes shall go away into captiuitie
48:8The destroyer shall come vpon all cities, none shall escape: The valleys shalbe destroyed, and the fieldes shalbe layde waste, lyke as the Lorde hath spoken
48:9Geue winges vnto Moab, that she get her away speedyly: for her cities shalbe made so desolate, that no man shall dwell therein
48:10Cursed be he that doth the worke of the Lorde fraudulently, and cursed be he that kepeth backe his sworde from sheddyng of blood
48:11Moab hath euer ben riche and carelesse from her youth vp, she hath ben still setled vpon lies, she was neuer yet put out of one vessell into another that is she neuer went away into captiuitie, therefore her taste remayneth, and her sauour is not yet chaunged
48:12But lo, the tyme commeth saith the Lorde, that I shall sende her trussers to trusse her vp, whiche shall remoue her from her dwelling, and emptie her vessels, and breake her wine pottes
48:13And Moab shalbe ashamed of Chamos, lyke as Israel was ashamed of Bethel, wherein she put her trust
48:14Wherefore do ye thinke thus: we are mightie and strong men of warre
48:15Moab is destroyed, and her cities brent vp, her chosen young men be slayne, saith the kyng whose name is the Lorde of hoastes
48:16The destruction of Moab commeth on a pace, and her fall is at hande
48:17All ye neighbours mourne for her, and all ye that knowe her name, say, O howe happeneth it that the strong staffe and the goodly rodde is thus broken
48:18And thou daughter Dibon, come downe from thy glory, and sit in thyrst: for he that destroyeth Moab, shall come vp to thee also, and breake downe thy strong holdes
48:19And thou that dwellest in Aroer, get thee to the streete, and looke about thee, aske them that are fled and escaped, and say, What thing is happened
48:20Oh Moab is confounded and ouercome: mourne and crye, tell it out at Arnon, that Moab is destroyed
48:21For iudgement shall come vpon the playne lande namely vpon Holon, and Iahzah, and vpon Mephaath
48:22And vpon Dibon, vpon Nabo, and Beth Deblathaim
48:23Upon Kiriathaim, and vpon Beth Gamul, vpon Beth Maon
48:24And vpon Carioth, vpon Bozra, and all the cities in the lande of Moab, whether they lye farre or neare
48:25The horne of Moab is smitten downe, and her arme broken saith the Lorde
48:26Make her drunken, for she magnified her selfe aboue the Lorde, that men may clap their handes at her vomite, and that she also may be laughed to scorne
48:27Diddest not thou laugh Israel to scorne, as though he had ben taken with theft among thieues? for so often as thou makest mention of hym, thou skippest for ioy
48:28Ye Moabites, leaue the cities, and dwel in rockes of stone, and become like doues that make their nestes in holes
48:29As for Moabs pride we haue hearde of it, she is very hye minded, I knowe her stoutenesse, her boasting, her arrogancie, and the pride of her stomacke, [saith the Lorde.
48:30I knowe (saith the Lorde) her indignation, she doth not right, her wordes are lyes, and they haue not dealt truely
48:31Therefore will I mourne for Moab, for whole Moabs sake: my heart shall lament the men of Kirchares
48:32O thou vineyarde of Sabamah, I wyll weepe for thee as for Iazer: thy vine braunches shall come ouer the sea vnto the sea of Iazer, the destroyer shal breake into thy haruest and grape gathering
48:33Myrth and cheare shalbe taken away from the fertile fielde, and from the lande of Moab: there shalbe no sweete wine in the presse, the treader shal haue no stomacke to crye, yea there shalbe none to crye vnto him
48:34Whiche aforetyme were hearde from Hesbon to Eleale, and Iahaz, whiche lyfted vp their voyce from Zoar vnto Horonaim, that bullocke of three yere olde: the waters also of Nemrim shalbe dryed vp
48:35Moreouer, I will make Moab ceasse saith the Lorde, from the offeringes and censing that she hath made vnto her gods in hye places
48:36Wherefore my heart mourneth for Moab like a crowde playing an heauie song, and for the mens sake of Kirchares my heart mourneth also, euen as a pipe that pipeth a dolefull song: for their riches which they haue gathered, shalbe destroyed
48:37All heades shalbe shauen, and all beardes clipped of, all handes bounde, and all loynes gyrded about with sackcloth
48:38Upon all the house toppes and streetes of Moab there shalbe lamentable mourning: for I wyl breake Moab lyke an vnprofitable vessell, saith the Lorde
48:39O howe is she destroyed? O howe mourneth she? O howe doth Moab hang downe her head and is ashamed? Thus shal Moab be a laughing stocke, and had in derision of all them that be rounde about her
48:40For thus saith the Lorde: Beholde, the enemie shall come fleeing as an Egle, and spreade his winges vpon Moab
48:41They shall take the cities, and winne the strong holdes: then the mightie mens heartes in Moab, shalbe lyke the heart of a woman trauayling with chylde
48:42And Moab shalbe made so desolate, that she shall no more be a people, because she hath set vp her selfe against the Lorde
48:43Feare, pit, and snare, shall come vpon thee O Moab, saith the Lorde
48:44Whoso escapeth the feare, shall fall into the pit, and whoso getteth out of the pit, shalbe taken in the snare: for I will bryng a yere of visitation vpon Moab, saith the Lorde
48:45They that are able to flee, shall stande vnder the shadowe of Hesbon, for there shall go a fire out of Hesbon, and a flambe from Sion, and shall burne vp that proude people of Moab, and the toppe of those seditious chyldren
48:46Wo be vnto thee O Moab, thou people of Chamos shalt perishe: yea thy sonnes and daughters shalbe led away captiue
48:47Yet at the last wyll I bryng Moab out of captiuitie agayne saith the Lord: Thus farre is of the plague of Moab

48:1Concerning Moab, thus saith ye Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, Woe vnto Nebo: for it is wasted: Kiriathaim is confounded and taken: Misgab is confounded and afraide.
48:2Moab shall boast no more of Heshbon: for they haue deuised euill against it. Come, and let vs destroy it, that it be no more a nation: also thou shalt be destroyed, O Madmen, and the sworde shall pursue thee.
48:3A voyce of crying shall be from Horonaim with desolation and great destruction.
48:4Moab is destroyed: her litle ones haue caused their crie to be heard.
48:5For at the going vp of Luhith, the mourner shall goe vp with weeping: for in the going downe of Horonaim, the enemies haue heard a cry of destruction,
48:6Flee and saue your liues, and be like vnto the heath in the wildernesse.
48:7For because thou hast trusted in thy workes and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken, and Chemosh shall goe forth into captiuitie with his Priestes and his princes together.
48:8And the destroyer shall come vpon all cities, and no citie shall escape: the valley also shall perish and the plaine shalbe destroyed as the Lord hath spoken.
48:9Giue wings vnto Moab, that it may flee and get away: for the cities thereof shalbe desolate, without any to dwell therein.
48:10Cursed be he that doeth the worke of the Lord negligently, and cursed be he that keepeth backe his sword from blood.
48:11Moab hath bene at rest from his youth, and he hath setled on his lees, and hath not bene powred from vessell to vessell, neither hath he gone into captiuitie: therefore his taste remained in him and his sent is not changed.
48:12Therefore beholde, the dayes come, saith the Lord, that I will send vnto him such as shall carie him away, and shall emptie his vessels, and breake their bottels.
48:13And Moab shalbe ashamed of Chemosh as the house of Israel was ashamed of Beth-el their confidence.
48:14Howe thinke you thus, We are mightie and strong men of warre?
48:15Moab is destroyed, and his cities burnt vp, and his chose yong men are gone downe to slaughter, saith ye King, whose name is ye Lord of hostes.
48:16The destruction of Moab is ready to come, and his plague hasteth fast.
48:17All ye that are about him, mourne for him, and all ye that knowe his name, say, Howe is the strong staffe broken, and the beautifull rod!
48:18Thou daughter that doest inhabite Dibon, come downe from thy glory, and sit in thirst: for the destroyer of Moab shall come vpon thee, and he shall destroy thy strong holdes.
48:19Thou that dwellest in Aroer, stand by the way, and beholde: aske him that fleeth and that escapeth, and say, What is done?
48:20Moab is cofouded: for it is destroied: howle, and cry, tell ye it in Arnon, that Moab is made waste,
48:21And iudgement is come vpon the plaine countrey, vpon Holon and vpon Iahazah, and vpon Mephaath,
48:22And vpon Dibon, and vpon Nebo, and vpon the house of Diblathaim,
48:23And vpon Kiriathaim, and vpon Beth-gamul, and vpon Beth-meon,
48:24And vpon Kerioth, and vpon Bozrah, and vpon all the cities of ye land of Moab farre or neere.
48:25The horne of Moab is cut off, and his arme is broken, saith the Lord.
48:26Make ye him drunken: for he magnified himselfe against the Lord: Moab shall wallowe in his vomite, and he also shalbe in derision.
48:27For diddest not thou deride Israel, as though he had bene found among theeues? for when thou speakest of him, thou art moued.
48:28O ye that dwell in Moab, leaue the cities, and dwell in the rockes, and be like the doue, that maketh her nest in the sides of the holes mouth.
48:29We haue heard the pride of Moab (hee is exceeding proude) his stoutnesse, and his arrogancie, and his pride, and the hautinesse of his heart.
48:30I know his wrath, saith ye Lord, but it shall not be so: and his dissimulatios, for they do not right.
48:31Therefore will I howle for Moab, and I will crie out for all Moab: mine heart shall mourne for the men of Kir-heres.
48:32O vine of Sibmah, I will weepe for thee, as I wept for Iazer: thy plants are gone ouer the sea, they are come to the sea of Iazer: ye destroyer is fallen vpon thy somer fruites, and vpon thy vintage,
48:33And ioye, and gladnesse is taken from the plentifull fielde, and from the land of Moab: and I haue caused wine to faile from the winepresse: none shall treade with shouting: their shouting shall be no shouting.
48:34From the cry of Heshbon vnto Elaleh and vnto Iahaz haue they made their noyse from Zoar vnto Horonaim, ye heiffer of three yere old shall go lowing: for ye waters also of Nimrim shalbe wasted.
48:35Moreouer, I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the Lord, him that offered in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods.
48:36Therefore mine heart shall sounde for Moab like a shaume, and mine heart shall sound like a shaume for the men of Ker-heres, because the riches that he hath gotten, is perished.
48:37For euery head shalbe balde, and euery beard plucked: vpon all the handes shall be cuttings, and vpon the loynes sackecloth.
48:38And mourning shall be vpon all the house toppes of Moab and in all the streetes thereof: for I haue broken Moab like a vessell wherein is no pleasure, sayeth the Lord.
48:39They shall howle, saying, How is he destroyed? howe hath Moab turned the backe with shame? so shall Moab be a derision, and a feare to all them about him.
48:40For thus saith the Lord, Beholde, he shall flee as an eagle, and shall spread his wings ouer Moab.
48:41The cities are taken, and the strong holdes are wonne, and ye mightie mens hearts in Moab at that day shalbe as ye heart of a woman in trauaile.
48:42And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath set vp himselfe against the Lord.
48:43Feare, and pit and snare shall be vpon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the Lord.
48:44He that escapeth from the feare, shall fall in the pit, and he that getteth vp out of the pit, shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring vpon it, euen vpon Moab, the yeere of their visitation, sayeth the Lord.
48:45They that fled, stoode vnder the shadowe of Heshbon, because of the force: for the fire came out of Heshbon, and a flame from Sihon, and deuoured the corner of Moab, and the top of the seditious children.
48:46Wo be vnto thee, O Moab: the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sonnes are taken captiues, and thy daughters led into captiuitie.
48:47Yet will I bring againe the captiuitie of Moab in the latter dayes, sayeth the Lord. Thus farre of the iudgement of Moab.
