Lamentations - Chapter: 3

>
3:1I `am' the man `who' hath seen affliction By the rod of His wrath.
3:2Me He hath led, and causeth to go `in' darkness, and without light.
3:3Surely against me He turneth back, He turneth His hand all the day.
3:4He hath worn out my flesh and my skin. He hath broken my bones.
3:5He hath built up against me, And setteth round poverty and weariness.
3:6In dark places He hath caused me to dwell, As the dead of old.
3:7He hath hedged me about, and I go not out, He hath made heavy my fetter.
3:8Also when I call and cry out, He hath shut out my prayer.
3:9He hath hedged my ways with hewn work, My paths He hath made crooked.
3:10A bear lying in wait He `is' to me, A lion in secret hiding-places.
3:11My ways He is turning aside, and He pulleth me in pieces, He hath made me a desolation.
3:12He hath trodden His bow, And setteth me up as a mark for an arrow.
3:13He hath caused to enter into my reins The sons of His quiver.
3:14I have been a derision to all my people, Their song all the day.
3:15He hath filled me with bitter things, He hath filled me `with' wormwood.
3:16And He breaketh with gravel my teeth, He hath covered me with ashes.
3:17And Thou castest off from peace my soul, I have forgotten prosperity.
3:18And I say, Perished hath my strength and my hope from Jehovah.
3:19Remember my affliction and my mourning, Wormwood and gall!
3:20Remember well, and bow down doth my soul in me.
3:21This I turn to my heart -- therefore I hope.
3:22The kindnesses of Jehovah! For we have not been consumed, For not ended have His mercies.
3:23New every morning, abundant `is' thy faithfulness.
3:24My portion `is' Jehovah, hath my soul said, Therefore I hope for Him.
3:25Good `is' Jehovah to those waiting for Him, To the soul `that' seeketh Him.
3:26Good! when one doth stay and stand still For the salvation of Jehovah.
3:27Good for a man that he beareth a yoke in his youth.
3:28He sitteth alone, and is silent, For He hath laid `it' upon him.
3:29He putteth in the dust his mouth, if so be there is hope.
3:30He giveth to his smiter the cheek, He is filled with reproach.
3:31For the Lord doth not cast off to the age.
3:32For though He afflicted, yet He hath pitied, According to the abundance of His kindness.
3:33For He hath not afflicted with His heart, Nor doth He grieve the sons of men.
3:34To bruise under one's feet any bound ones of earth,
3:35To turn aside the judgment of a man, Over-against the face of the Most High,
3:36To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord hath not approved.
3:37Who `is' this -- he hath said, and it is, `And' the Lord hath not commanded `it'?
3:38From the mouth of the Most High Go not forth the evils and the good.
3:39What -- sigh habitually doth a living man, A man for his sin?
3:40We search our ways, and investigate, And turn back unto Jehovah.
3:41We lift up our heart on the hands unto God in the heavens.
3:42We -- we have transgressed and rebelled, Thou -- Thou hast not forgiven.
3:43Thou hast covered Thyself with anger, And dost pursue us; Thou hast slain -- Thou hast not pitied.
3:44Thou hast covered Thyself with a cloud, So that prayer doth not pass through.
3:45Offscouring and refuse Thou dost make us In the midst of the peoples.
3:46Opened against us their mouth have all our enemies.
3:47Fear and a snare hath been for us, Desolation and destruction.
3:48Rivulets of water go down my eye, For the destruction of the daughter of my people.
3:49Mine eye is poured out, And doth not cease without intermission,
3:50Till Jehovah looketh and seeth from the heavens,
3:51My eye affecteth my soul, Because of all the daughters of my city.
3:52Hunted me sore as a bird have my enemies without cause.
3:53They have cut off in a pit my life, And they cast a stone against me.
3:54Flowed have waters over my head, I have said, I have been cut off.
3:55I called Thy name, O Jehovah, from the lower pit.
3:56My voice Thou hast heard, Hide not Thine ear at my breathing -- at my cry.
3:57Thou hast drawn near in the day I call Thee, Thou hast said, Fear not.
3:58Thou hast pleaded, O Lord, the pleadings of my soul, Thou hast redeemed my life.
3:59Thou hast seen, O Jehovah, my overthrow, Judge Thou my cause.
3:60Thou hast seen all their vengeance, All their thoughts of me.
3:61Thou hast heard their reproach, O Jehovah, All their thoughts against me,
3:62The lips of my withstanders, Even their meditation against me all the day.
3:63Their sitting down, and their rising up, Behold attentively, I `am' their song.
3:64Thou returnest to them the deed, O Jehovah, According to the work of their hands.
3:65Thou givest to them a covered heart, Thy curse to them.
3:66Thou pursuest in anger, and destroyest them, From under the heavens of Jehovah!

3:1I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.
3:2He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light.
3:3Surely against me is he turned; he turneth his hand against me all the day.
3:4My flesh and my skin hath he made old: he hath broken my bones.
3:5He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.
3:6He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old.
3:7He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out: he hath made my chain heavy.
3:8Also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer.
3:9He hath inclosed my ways with hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked.
3:10He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places.
3:11He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath made me desolate.
3:12He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
3:13He hath caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.
3:14I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day.
3:15He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath made me drunken with wormwood.
3:16He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes.
3:17And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity.
3:18And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD:
3:19Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.
3:20My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.
3:21This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
3:22It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
3:23They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
3:24The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
3:25The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
3:26It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
3:27It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.
3:28He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him.
3:29He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope.
3:30He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.
3:31For the Lord will not cast off for ever:
3:32But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.
3:33For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.
3:34To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,
3:35To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High,
3:36To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.
3:37Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?
3:38Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?
3:39Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?
3:40Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.
3:41Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.
3:42We have transgressed and have rebelled: thou hast not pardoned.
3:43Thou hast covered with anger, and persecuted us: thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.
3:44Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass through.
3:45Thou hast made us as the offscouring and refuse in the midst of the people.
3:46All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.
3:47Fear and a snare is come upon us, desolation and destruction.
3:48Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction of the daughter of my people.
3:49Mine eye trickleth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,
3:50Till the LORD look down, and behold from heaven.
3:51Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city.
3:52Mine enemies chased me sore, like a bird, without cause.
3:53They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone upon me.
3:54Waters flowed over mine head; then I said, I am cut off.
3:55I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon.
3:56Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.
3:57Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not.
3:58O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.
3:59O LORD, thou hast seen my wrong: judge thou my cause.
3:60Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their imaginations against me.
3:61Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their imaginations against me;
3:62The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.
3:63Behold their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their musick.
3:64Render unto them a recompence, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.
3:65Give them sorrow of heart, thy curse unto them.
3:66Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the LORD.

3:1I, the man, have seen affliction by the rod of His wrath.
3:2He led me and made me go in darkness and not light.
3:3Surely He turned against me; He turns His hand all the day.
3:4He has wasted my flesh and my skin. He has shattered my bones.
3:5He built against me and has put around me bitterness and hardship.
3:6He has made me live in dark places like the dead of old.
3:7He walled around me and I cannot go out; He has made heavy my bronze chain .
3:8Also, when I cry out and shout for help, He shuts out my prayer.
3:9He walled up my ways with cut stone; my paths are crooked.
3:10He was a bear lying in wait for me, a lion in secret places.
3:11He has deflected my ways and torn me to pieces; He made me desolate.
3:12He has trod His bow and set me up as a mark for the arrow.
3:13He caused the sons of His quiver to enter into my inward parts.
3:14I was a mockery to all my people, their song all the day.
3:15He has filled me with bitterness and made me drunk with wormwood.
3:16And He broke my teeth with gravel; He has covered me in the ashes.
3:17And You cast off my soul from peace; I have forgotten goodness.
3:18And I said, My strength and my hope are gone from Jehovah.
3:19Remember my affliction and my roaming, as wormwood and bitterness.
3:20My soul vividly remembers and bows down on me.
3:21I bring back this to my heart. On account of this I hope.
3:22It is by the kindnesses of Jehovah that we are not consumed, for His mercies are not ended.
3:23They are new by mornings; great is Your faithfulness.
3:24Jehovah is my portion, says my soul. On account of this I shall hope to Him.
3:25Jehovah is good to those waiting on Him, to the soul seeking Him.
3:26It is good that a man hopes for the salvation of Jehovah, even in silence.
3:27It is good for a man that he bear a yoke in his youth.
3:28He sits alone and is silent, for He laid it on him.
3:29He puts his mouth in the dust, if perhaps there is hope.
3:30He gives his cheek to Him who strikes him; he is filled with reproach.
3:31For the Lord will not cast off forever.
3:32For though He causes grief, He will have pity according to His many kindnesses.
3:33For He does not afflict from His heart, nor does He grieve the sons of man,
3:34to crush all the prisoners of earth under His feet,
3:35to turn aside the justice of a man before the face of the Most High,
3:36to wrong a man in his cause. This, the Lord does not see.
3:37Who is this speaking, and it happens when the Lord does not command it?
3:38Both the evil and the good do not go out from the mouth of the Most High.
3:39What? Should mankind complain, living man because of his sins?
3:40Let us search and examine our ways, and turn again to Jehovah.
3:41Let us lift up our heart and palms to God in Heaven.
3:42We have transgressed and rebelled; You, You have not forgiven.
3:43You have wrapped Yourself with anger and pursued us; You have slain; You have not pitied.
3:44You have covered with a cloud for You, from any prayer passing through.
3:45You have made us sweepings and garbage in the midst of the peoples.
3:46All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.
3:47Dread and a pit is ours, devastation and ruin.
3:48Streams of water go out of my eye for the ruin of the daughter of my people.
3:49My eye flows out and does not cease, from there not being any relaxing,
3:50until Jehovah shall look down and see from Heaven.
3:51My eye deals severely with my soul, from all the daughters of my city.
3:52My haters have hunted me like a bird without cause.
3:53They have cut off my life in the pit, and they threw a stone at me.
3:54Waters flowed over on my head; I said, I am cut off.
3:55I called on Your name, O Jehovah, from the lowest pit.
3:56You have heard my voice; do not hide Your ear at my relief, at my cry for help.
3:57You came near in the day I called You; you said, Do not fear!
3:58O Lord, You contended for the causes of my soul; You redeemed my life.
3:59You have seen my wrong, O Jehovah; judge my cause.
3:60You have seen all their vengeance, all their plots against me.
3:61You have heard their reproach, O Jehovah, all their plots against me,
3:62the lips of those rising up against me, and their scheming against me all the day.
3:63Look at their sitting and their rising up. I am their song.
3:64You will give back a recompense to them, O Jehovah, according to the work of their hands.
3:65You will give them an insolent heart as Your curse to them.
3:66Pursue and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of Jehovah.
