Lamentations - Chapter: 5

>
5:1Remember, O Lord, what is come vpon vs: consider and beholde our reproch.
5:2Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliants.
5:3We are orphanes and fatherlesse, our mothers are as widowes.
5:4We haue drunken our water for money, our wood is sold vnto vs.
5:5Our neckes are vnder persecution: we labour and haue no rest.
5:6We haue giuen the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.
5:7Our fathers haue sinned and are not, and wee haue borne their iniquities.
5:8Seruants haue ruled ouer vs: there is none that doeth deliuer vs out of their hand.
5:9We gate our bread with the perill of our liues, because of the sword of the wildernesse.
5:10Our skinne was blacke like an ouen, because of the terrible famine.
5:11They rauished the women in Zion, and the maides in the cities of Iudah.
5:12Princes are hanged vp by their hand: the faces of Elders were not honoured.
5:13They tooke the young men to grinde, and the children fell vnder the wood.
5:14The Elders haue ceased from the gate, the young men from their musicke.
5:15The ioy of our heart is ceased, our daunce is turned into mourning.
5:16The crowne is fallen from our head: Woe vnto vs, that wee haue sinned.
5:17For this our heart is faint, for these things our eyes are dimme.
5:18Because of the mountaine of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walke vpon it.
5:19Thou, O Lord, remainest for euer: thy throne from generation to generation.
5:20Wherefore doest thou forget vs for euer, and forsake vs so long time?
5:21Turne thou vs vnto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned: renew our dayes as of old.
5:22But thou hast vtterly reiected vs: thou art very wroth against vs.

5:1Remember, O Lord, what is come vpon vs: consider, and behold our reproche.
5:2Our inheritance is turned to the strangers, our houses to the aliants.
5:3We are fatherles, euen without father, and our mothers are as widowes.
5:4Wee haue drunke our water for money, and our wood is solde vnto vs.
5:5Our neckes are vnder persecution: we are wearie, and haue no rest.
5:6We haue giuen our handes to the Egyptians, and to Asshur, to be satisfied with bread.
5:7Our fathers haue sinned, and are not, and we haue borne their iniquities.
5:8Seruants haue ruled ouer vs, none would deliuer vs out of their hands.
5:9Wee gate our bread with the perill of our liues, because of the sword of the wildernesse.
5:10Our skinne was blacke like as an ouen because of the terrible famine.
5:11They defiled the women in Zion, and the maydes in the cities of Iudah.
5:12The princes are hanged vp by their hande: the faces of the elders were not had in honour.
5:13They tooke the yong men to grinde, and the children fell vnder the wood.
5:14The Elders haue ceased from the gate and the yong men from their songs.
5:15The ioy of our heart is gone, our daunce is turned into mourning.
5:16The crowne of our head is fallen: wo nowe vnto vs, that we haue sinned.
5:17Therefore our heart is heauy for these things, our eyes are dimme,
5:18Because of the mountaine of Zion which is desolate: the foxes runne vpon it.
5:19But thou, O Lord, remainest for euer: thy throne is from generation to generation.
5:20Wherefore doest thou forget vs for euer, and forsake vs so long time?
5:21Turne thou vs vnto thee, O Lord, and we shalbe turned: renue our dayes as of olde.
5:22But thou hast vtterly reiected vs: thou art exceedingly angry against vs.

5:1Call to remembraunce (O Lorde) what we haue suffred, consydre, and se oure confusion.
5:2Oure enheritaunce is turned to the straungers and oure houses to the aleauntes.
5:3We are become carefull and fatherles, and oure mothers are as the wyddowes.
5:4We are fayne to dryncke oure awne water for money, and oure awne wod must we bye with money.
5:5Oure neckes are vnder persecucion, we are weery, and haue no rest.
5:6Afore tyme we yelded oure selues to the Egypcians, and nowe to the Assyrians, only that we myght haue bred ynough.
5:7Oure fathers (which now are gone) haue synned, & we must beare theyr wyckednes.
5:8Seruauntes haue the rule of vs, and no man delyuereth vs out of their handes.
5:9We must get oure lyuynge with the parell of oure lyues, because of the drouth of the wyldernes.
5:10Oure skynne is as it had bene brent in an ouen, for very sore honger.
5:11The wyues are raueshed in Syon, and the maydens in the cyties of Iuda.
5:12The princes are hanged vp with the hande of the enemies, they haue not spared the olde sage men,
5:13they haue taken yonge mennes lyues from them, & the boyes are hanged vp vpon trees.
5:14The elders sytt nomore vnder the gates, and the yonge men vse nomore playenge of musycke.
5:15The ioye of oure herte is gone, oure mery queer is turned into mournynge.
5:16The garlande of oure heade is fallen: alas, that euer we synned so sore.
5:17Therfore, oure herte is full of heuynes, & oure eyes dymme:
5:18because of the hyll of Sion, that is destroyed. In so moch, that the foxes runne vpon it.
5:19But thou, O Lorde, that remaynest for euermore, and thy seate worlde without ende:
5:20wherfore wylt thou styll forget vs, and forsake vs so longe?
5:21O Lorde turne thou vs vnto the, and so shall we be turned. Renue oure dayes as in olde tymes,
5:22for thou hast banyshed vs nowe longe ynough, and hast bene sore displeased at vs.
