Lamentations - Chapter: 5

>
5:1Lord, haue thou mynde what bifelle to vs; se thou, and biholde oure schenschipe.
5:2Oure eritage is turned to aliens, oure housis ben turned to straungers.
5:3We ben maad fadirles children with out fadir; oure modris ben as widewis.
5:4We drunken oure watir for monei, we bouyten oure trees for siluer.
5:5We weren dryuun bi oure heedis, and reste was not youun to feynt men.
5:6We yauen hond to Egipt, and to Assiriens, that we schulden be fillid with breed.
5:7Oure fadris synneden, and ben not, and we baren the wickidnessis of hem.
5:8Seruauntis weren lordis of vs, and noon was, that ayenbouyte fro the hond of hem.
5:9In oure lyues we brouyten breed to vs, fro the face of swerd in desert.
5:10Oure skynne is brent as a furneis, of the face of tempestis of hungur.
5:11Thei maden low wymmen in Sion, and virgyns in the citees of Juda.
5:12Princes weren hangid bi the hond; thei weren not aschamed of the faces of elde men.
5:13Thei mysusiden yonge wexynge men vnchastli, and children fellen doun in tree.
5:14Elde men failiden fro yatis; yonge men failiden of the queer of singeris.
5:15The ioie of oure herte failide; oure song is turned in to mourenyng.
5:16The coroun of oure heed fellen doun; wo to vs! for we synneden.
5:17Therfor oure herte is maad soreuful, therfor oure iyen ben maad derk.
5:18For the hil of Sion, for it perischide; foxis yeden in it.
5:19But thou, Lord, schal dwelle with outen ende; thi seete schal dwelle in generacioun and in to generacioun.
5:20Whi schalt thou foryete vs with outen ende, schalt thou forsake vs in to lengthe of daies?
5:21Lord, conuerte thou vs to thee, and we schal be conuertid; make thou newe oure daies, as at the bigynnyng.
5:22But thou castynge awei hast cast awei vs; thou art wrooth ayens vs greetli.

5:1Remember, O Lord, what is come vpon vs: consider, and behold our reproche.
5:2Our inheritance is turned to the strangers, our houses to the aliants.
5:3We are fatherles, euen without father, and our mothers are as widowes.
5:4Wee haue drunke our water for money, and our wood is solde vnto vs.
5:5Our neckes are vnder persecution: we are wearie, and haue no rest.
5:6We haue giuen our handes to the Egyptians, and to Asshur, to be satisfied with bread.
5:7Our fathers haue sinned, and are not, and we haue borne their iniquities.
5:8Seruants haue ruled ouer vs, none would deliuer vs out of their hands.
5:9Wee gate our bread with the perill of our liues, because of the sword of the wildernesse.
5:10Our skinne was blacke like as an ouen because of the terrible famine.
5:11They defiled the women in Zion, and the maydes in the cities of Iudah.
5:12The princes are hanged vp by their hande: the faces of the elders were not had in honour.
5:13They tooke the yong men to grinde, and the children fell vnder the wood.
5:14The Elders haue ceased from the gate and the yong men from their songs.
5:15The ioy of our heart is gone, our daunce is turned into mourning.
5:16The crowne of our head is fallen: wo nowe vnto vs, that we haue sinned.
5:17Therefore our heart is heauy for these things, our eyes are dimme,
5:18Because of the mountaine of Zion which is desolate: the foxes runne vpon it.
5:19But thou, O Lord, remainest for euer: thy throne is from generation to generation.
5:20Wherefore doest thou forget vs for euer, and forsake vs so long time?
5:21Turne thou vs vnto thee, O Lord, and we shalbe turned: renue our dayes as of olde.
5:22But thou hast vtterly reiected vs: thou art exceedingly angry against vs.
