Lamentations - Chapter: 5

5:1Call to remembraunce (O Lorde) what we haue suffred, consydre, and se oure confusion.
5:2Oure enheritaunce is turned to the straungers and oure houses to the aleauntes.
5:3We are become carefull and fatherles, and oure mothers are as the wyddowes.
5:4We are fayne to dryncke oure awne water for money, and oure awne wod must we bye with money.
5:5Oure neckes are vnder persecucion, we are weery, and haue no rest.
5:6Afore tyme we yelded oure selues to the Egypcians, and nowe to the Assyrians, only that we myght haue bred ynough.
5:7Oure fathers (which now are gone) haue synned, & we must beare theyr wyckednes.
5:8Seruauntes haue the rule of vs, and no man delyuereth vs out of their handes.
5:9We must get oure lyuynge with the parell of oure lyues, because of the drouth of the wyldernes.
5:10Oure skynne is as it had bene brent in an ouen, for very sore honger.
5:11The wyues are raueshed in Syon, and the maydens in the cyties of Iuda.
5:12The princes are hanged vp with the hande of the enemies, they haue not spared the olde sage men,
5:13they haue taken yonge mennes lyues from them, & the boyes are hanged vp vpon trees.
5:14The elders sytt nomore vnder the gates, and the yonge men vse nomore playenge of musycke.
5:15The ioye of oure herte is gone, oure mery queer is turned into mournynge.
5:16The garlande of oure heade is fallen: alas, that euer we synned so sore.
5:17Therfore, oure herte is full of heuynes, & oure eyes dymme:
5:18because of the hyll of Sion, that is destroyed. In so moch, that the foxes runne vpon it.
5:19But thou, O Lorde, that remaynest for euermore, and thy seate worlde without ende:
5:20wherfore wylt thou styll forget vs, and forsake vs so longe?
5:21O Lorde turne thou vs vnto the, and so shall we be turned. Renue oure dayes as in olde tymes,
5:22for thou hast banyshed vs nowe longe ynough, and hast bene sore displeased at vs.

5:6We yauen hond to Egipt, and to Assiriens, that we schulden be fillid with breed.
5:7Oure fadris synneden, and ben not, and we baren the wickidnessis of hem.
5:8Seruauntis weren lordis of vs, and noon was, that ayenbouyte fro the hond of hem.
5:9In oure lyues we brouyten breed to vs, fro the face of swerd in desert.
5:10Oure skynne is brent as a furneis, of the face of tempestis of hungur.
5:11Thei maden low wymmen in Sion, and virgyns in the citees of Juda.
5:12Princes weren hangid bi the hond; thei weren not aschamed of the faces of elde men.
5:13Thei mysusiden yonge wexynge men vnchastli, and children fellen doun in tree.
5:14Elde men failiden fro yatis; yonge men failiden of the queer of singeris.
5:15The ioie of oure herte failide; oure song is turned in to mourenyng.
5:16The coroun of oure heed fellen doun; wo to vs! for we synneden.
5:17Therfor oure herte is maad soreuful, therfor oure iyen ben maad derk.
5:18For the hil of Sion, for it perischide; foxis yeden in it.
5:19But thou, Lord, schal dwelle with outen ende; thi seete schal dwelle in generacioun and in to generacioun.
5:20Whi schalt thou foryete vs with outen ende, schalt thou forsake vs in to lengthe of daies?
5:21Lord, conuerte thou vs to thee, and we schal be conuertid; make thou newe oure daies, as at the bigynnyng.
5:22But thou castynge awei hast cast awei vs; thou art wrooth ayens vs greetli.
