| 8:1 | And it came to pass in the sixth year, in the sixth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I sat in mine house, and the elders of Judah sat before me, that the hand of the Lord GOD fell there upon me. |
| 8:2 | Then I beheld, and lo a likeness as the appearance of fire: from the appearance of his loins even downward, fire; and from his loins even upward, as the appearance of brightness, as the colour of amber. |
| 8:3 | And he put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a lock of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the inner gate that looketh toward the north; where was the seat of the image of jealousy, which provoketh to jealousy. |
| 8:4 | And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, according to the vision that I saw in the plain. |
| 8:5 | Then said he unto me, Son of man, lift up thine eyes now the way toward the north. So I lifted up mine eyes the way toward the north, and behold northward at the gate of the altar this image of jealousy in the entry. |
| 8:6 | He said furthermore unto me, Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here, that I should go far off from my sanctuary? but turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations. |
| 8:7 | And he brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, behold a hole in the wall. |
| 8:8 | Then said he unto me, Son of man, dig now in the wall: and when I had digged in the wall, behold a door. |
| 8:9 | And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here. |
| 8:10 | So I went in and saw; and behold every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, pourtrayed upon the wall round about. |
| 8:11 | And there stood before them seventy men of the ancients of the house of Israel, and in the midst of them stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan, with every man his censer in his hand; and a thick cloud of incense went up. |
| 8:12 | Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? for they say, The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth. |
| 8:13 | He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do. |
| 8:14 | Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD'S house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. |
| 8:15 | Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these. |
| 8:16 | And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD'S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east. |
| 8:17 | Then he said unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger: and, lo, they put the branch to their nose. |
| 8:18 | Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them. |
| 8:1 | ויהי בשׁנה השׁשׁית בשׁשׁי בחמשׁה לחדשׁ אני יושׁב בביתי וזקני יהודה יושׁבים לפני ותפל עלי שׁם יד אדני יהוה׃ |
| 8:2 | ואראה והנה דמות כמראה אשׁ ממראה מתניו ולמטה אשׁ וממתניו ולמעלה כמראה זהר כעין החשׁמלה׃ |
| 8:3 | וישׁלח תבנית יד ויקחני בציצת ראשׁי ותשׂא אתי רוח בין הארץ ובין השׁמים ותבא אתי ירושׁלמה במראות אלהים אל פתח שׁער הפנימית הפונה צפונה אשׁר שׁם מושׁב סמל הקנאה המקנה׃ |
| 8:4 | והנה שׁם כבוד אלהי ישׂראל כמראה אשׁר ראיתי בבקעה׃ |
| 8:5 | ויאמר אלי בן אדם שׂא נא עיניך דרך צפונה ואשׂא עיני דרך צפונה והנה מצפון לשׁער המזבח סמל הקנאה הזה בבאה׃ |
| 8:6 | ויאמר אלי בן אדם הראה אתה מהם עשׂים תועבות גדלות אשׁר בית ישׂראל עשׂים פה לרחקה מעל מקדשׁי ועוד תשׁוב תראה תועבות גדלות׃ |
| 8:7 | ויבא אתי אל פתח החצר ואראה והנה חר אחד בקיר׃ |
| 8:8 | ויאמר אלי בן אדם חתר נא בקיר ואחתר בקיר והנה פתח אחד׃ |
| 8:9 | ויאמר אלי בא וראה את התועבות הרעות אשׁר הם עשׂים פה׃ |
| 8:10 | ואבוא ואראה והנה כל תבנית רמשׂ ובהמה שׁקץ וכל גלולי בית ישׂראל מחקה על הקיר סביב סביב׃ |
| 8:11 | ושׁבעים אישׁ מזקני בית ישׂראל ויאזניהו בן שׁפן עמד בתוכם עמדים לפניהם ואישׁ מקטרתו בידו ועתר ענן הקטרת עלה׃ |
| 8:12 | ויאמר אלי הראית בן אדם אשׁר זקני בית ישׂראל עשׂים בחשׁך אישׁ בחדרי משׂכיתו כי אמרים אין יהוה ראה אתנו עזב יהוה את הארץ׃ |
| 8:13 | ויאמר אלי עוד תשׁוב תראה תועבות גדלות אשׁר המה עשׂים׃ |
| 8:14 | ויבא אתי אל פתח שׁער בית יהוה אשׁר אל הצפונה והנה שׁם הנשׁים ישׁבות מבכות את התמוז׃ |
| 8:15 | ויאמר אלי הראית בן אדם עוד תשׁוב תראה תועבות גדלות מאלה׃ |
| 8:16 | ויבא אתי אל חצר בית יהוה הפנימית והנה פתח היכל יהוה בין האולם ובין המזבח כעשׂרים וחמשׁה אישׁ אחריהם אל היכל יהוה ופניהם קדמה והמה משׁתחויתם קדמה לשׁמשׁ׃ |
| 8:17 | ויאמר אלי הראית בן אדם הנקל לבית יהודה מעשׂות את התועבות אשׁר עשׂו פה כי מלאו את הארץ חמס וישׁבו להכעיסני והנם שׁלחים את הזמורה אל אפם׃ |
| 8:18 | וגם אני אעשׂה בחמה לא תחוס עיני ולא אחמל וקראו באזני קול גדול ולא אשׁמע אותם׃ |
| 8:1 | And it cometh to pass, in the sixth year, in the sixth `month', in the fifth of the month, I am sitting in my house, and elders of Judah are sitting before me, and fall on me there doth a hand of the Lord Jehovah, |
| 8:2 | and I look, and lo, a likeness as the appearance of fire, from the appearance of His loins and downward -- fire, and from His loins and upward, as the appearance of brightness, as the colour of copper. |
| 8:3 | And He putteth forth a form of a hand, and taketh me by a lock of my head, and lift me up doth a spirit between the earth and the heavens, and it bringeth me in to Jerusalem in visions of God, unto the opening of the inner gate that is facing the north, where `is' the seat of the figure of jealousy that is making jealous, |
| 8:4 | and lo, there the honour of the God of Israel, as the appearance that I saw in the valley. |
| 8:5 | And He saith unto me, `Son of man, lift up, I pray thee, thine eyes the way of the north.' And I lift up mine eyes the way of the north, and lo, on the north of the gate of the altar this figure of jealousy, at the entrance. |
| 8:6 | And He saith unto me, `Son of man, art thou seeing what they are doing? the great abominations that the house of Israel are doing here, to keep far off from My sanctuary; and again thou dost turn, thou dost see great abominations.' |
| 8:7 | And He bringeth me in unto an opening of the court, and I look, and lo, a hole in the wall; |
| 8:8 | and He saith unto me, `Son of man, dig, I pray thee, through the wall;' and I dig through the wall, and lo, an opening. |
| 8:9 | And He saith to me, `Go in, and see the evil abominations that they are doing here.' |
| 8:10 | And I go in, and look, and lo, every form of creeping thing, and detestable beast -- and all the Idols of the house of Israel -- graved on the wall, all round about, |
| 8:11 | and seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel -- and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan standing in their midst -- are standing before them, and each his censer in his hand, and the abundance of the cloud of perfume is going up. |
| 8:12 | And He saith unto me, `Hast thou seen, son of man, that which elders of the house of Israel are doing in darkness, each in the inner chambers of his imagery, for they are saying, Jehovah is not seeing us, Jehovah hath forsaken the land?' |
| 8:13 | And He saith unto me, `Again thou dost turn, thou dost see great abominations that they are doing.' |
| 8:14 | And He bringeth me in unto the opening of the gate of the house of Jehovah that `is' at the north, and lo, there the women are sitting weeping for Tammuz. |
| 8:15 | And He saith unto me, `Hast thou seen, son of man? again thou dost turn, thou dost see greater abominations than these.' |
| 8:16 | And He bringeth me in unto the inner court of the house of Jehovah, and lo, at the opening of the temple of Jehovah, between the porch and the altar, about twenty-five men, their backs toward the temple of Jehovah, and their faces eastward, and they are bowing themselves eastward to the sun. |
| 8:17 | And He saith unto me, `Hast thou seen, son of man? hath it been a light thing to the house of Judah to do the abomination that they have done here, that they have filled the land with violence, and turn back to provoke Me to anger? and lo, they are putting forth the branch unto their nose! |
| 8:18 | And I also deal in fury, Mine eye doth not pity, nor do I spare, and they have cried in Mine ears -- a loud voice -- and I do not hear them.' |
