Ezekiel - Chapter: 16

>
16:1Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
16:2Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations,
16:3And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem; Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite.
16:4And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all.
16:5None eye pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have compassion upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field, to the lothing of thy person, in the day that thou wast born.
16:6And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live.
16:7I have caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou wast naked and bare.
16:8Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine.
16:9Then washed I thee with water; yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil.
16:10I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers' skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk.
16:11I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck.
16:12And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head.
16:13Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom.
16:14And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.
16:15But thou didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was.
16:16And of thy garments thou didst take, and deckedst thy high places with divers colours, and playedst the harlot thereupon: the like things shall not come, neither shall it be so.
16:17Thou hast also taken thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest to thyself images of men, and didst commit whoredom with them,
16:18And tookest thy broidered garments, and coveredst them: and thou hast set mine oil and mine incense before them.
16:19My meat also which I gave thee, fine flour, and oil, and honey, wherewith I fed thee, thou hast even set it before them for a sweet savour: and thus it was, saith the Lord GOD.
16:20Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured. Is this of thy whoredoms a small matter,
16:21That thou hast slain my children, and delivered them to cause them to pass through the fire for them?
16:22And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast polluted in thy blood.
16:23And it came to pass after all thy wickedness, (woe, woe unto thee! saith the Lord GOD;)
16:24That thou hast also built unto thee an eminent place, and hast made thee an high place in every street.
16:25Thou hast built thy high place at every head of the way, and hast made thy beauty to be abhorred, and hast opened thy feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredoms.
16:26Thou hast also committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, great of flesh; and hast increased thy whoredoms, to provoke me to anger.
16:27Behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary food, and delivered thee unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which are ashamed of thy lewd way.
16:28Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast unsatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied.
16:29Thou hast moreover multiplied thy fornication in the land of Canaan unto Chaldea; and yet thou wast not satisfied herewith.
16:30How weak is thine heart, saith the Lord GOD, seeing thou doest all these things, the work of an imperious whorish woman;
16:31In that thou buildest thine eminent place in the head of every way, and makest thine high place in every street; and hast not been as an harlot, in that thou scornest hire;
16:32But as a wife that committeth adultery, which taketh strangers instead of her husband!
16:33They give gifts to all whores: but thou givest thy gifts to all thy lovers, and hirest them, that they may come unto thee on every side for thy whoredom.
16:34And the contrary is in thee from other women in thy whoredoms, whereas none followeth thee to commit whoredoms: and in that thou givest a reward, and no reward is given unto thee, therefore thou art contrary.
16:35Wherefore, O harlot, hear the word of the LORD:
16:36Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thy filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness discovered through thy whoredoms with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thy abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou didst give unto them;
16:37Behold, therefore I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast hated; I will even gather them round about against thee, and will discover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness.
16:38And I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will give thee blood in fury and jealousy.
16:39And I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thine eminent place, and shall break down thy high places: they shall strip thee also of thy clothes, and shall take thy fair jewels, and leave thee naked and bare.
16:40They shall also bring up a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swords.
16:41And they shall burn thine houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou also shalt give no hire any more.
16:42So will I make my fury toward thee to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry.
16:43Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast fretted me in all these things; behold, therefore I also will recompense thy way upon thine head, saith the Lord GOD: and thou shalt not commit this lewdness above all thine abominations.
16:44Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter.
16:45Thou art thy mother's daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters, which lothed their husbands and their children: your mother was an Hittite, and your father an Amorite.
16:46And thine elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters.
16:47Yet hast thou not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but, as if that were a very little thing, thou wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways.
16:48As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.
16:49Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
16:50And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
16:51Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done.
16:52Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou: yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.
16:53When I shall bring again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then will I bring again the captivity of thy captives in the midst of them:
16:54That thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them.
16:55When thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then thou and thy daughters shall return to your former estate.
16:56For thy sister Sodom was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride,
16:57Before thy wickedness was discovered, as at the time of thy reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all that are round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, which despise thee round about.
16:58Thou hast borne thy lewdness and thine abominations, saith the LORD.
16:59For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even deal with thee as thou hast done, which hast despised the oath in breaking the covenant.
16:60Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant.
16:61Then thou shalt remember thy ways, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receive thy sisters, thine elder and thy younger: and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant.
16:62And I will establish my covenant with thee; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD:
16:63That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when I am pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord GOD.

16:1Again, the worde of the Lord came vnto me, saying,
16:2Sonne of man, cause Ierusalem to knowe her abominations,
16:3And say, Thus saith the Lord God vnto Ierusalem, Thine habitation and thy kindred is of the land of Canaan: thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite.
16:4And in thy natiuitie whe thou wast borne, thy nauell was not cut: thou wast not washed in water to soften thee: thou wast not salted with salt, nor swadled in cloutes.
16:5None eye pitied thee to do any of these vnto thee, for to haue compassion vpon thee, but thou wast cast out in the open fielde to the contempt of thy person in ye day that thou wast borne.
16:6And when I passed by thee, I saw thee polluted in thine owne blood, and I said vnto thee, whe thou wast in thy blood, Thou shalt liue: euen when thou wast in thy blood, I saide vnto thee, Thou shalt liue.
16:7I haue caused thee to multiplie as the bud of the fielde, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou hast gotten excellent ornaments: thy breastes are facioned, thine heare is growen, where as thou wast naked and bare.
16:8Nowe when I passed by thee, and looked vpon thee, beholde, thy time was as the time of loue, and I spred my skirtes ouer thee, and couered thy filthines: yea, I sware vnto thee, and entred into a couenant with thee, saith the Lord God, and thou becamest mine.
16:9Then washed I thee with water: yea, I washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oyle.
16:10I clothed thee also with broydred worke, and shod thee with badgers skin: and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I couered thee with silke.
16:11I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets vpon thine handes, and a chaine on thy necke.
16:12And I put a frontlet vpon thy face, and earings in thine eares, and a beautifull crowne vpon thine head.
16:13Thus wast thou deckt with gold and siluer, and thy rayment was of fine linen, and silke, and broydred worke: thou didest eate fine floure, and honie and oyle, and thou wast very beautifull, and thou didest grow vp into a kingdome.
16:14And thy name was spred among the heathen for thy beautie: for it was perfite through my beautie which I had set vpon thee, saith the Lord God.
16:15Nowe thou didest trust in thine owne beautie, and playedst the harlot, because of thy renowne, and hast powred out thy fornications on euery one that passed by, thy desire was to him.
16:16And thou didest take thy garments, and deckedst thine hie places with diuers colours, and playedst the harlot thereupon: the like thinges shall not come, neither hath any done so.
16:17Thou hast also taken thy faire iewels made of my golde and of my siluer, which I had giuen thee, and madest to thy selfe images of men, and didest commit whoredome with them,
16:18And tookest thy broydred garments, and coueredst them: and thou hast set mine oyle and my perfume before them.
16:19My meate also, which I gaue thee, as fine floure, oyle, and honie, wherewith I fedde thee, thou hast euen set it before them for a sweete sauour: thus it was, saith the Lord God.
16:20Moreouer thou hast taken thy sonnes and thy daughters, whome thou hast borne vnto me, and these hast thou sacrificed vnto them, to be deuoured: is this thy whoredome a small matter?
16:21That thou hast slaine my children, and deliuered them to cause them to passe through fire for them?
16:22And in all thine abominations and whoredomes thou hast not remembred the dayes of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast polluted in thy blood.
16:23And beside all thy wickednes (wo, wo vnto thee, saith the Lord God)
16:24Thou hast also built vnto thee an hie place, and hast made thee an hie place in euery streete.
16:25Thou hast built thine hie place at euery corner of the way, and hast made thy beautie to be abhorred: thou hast opened thy feete to euery one that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredome.
16:26Thou hast also committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, which haue great members, and hast encreased thy whoredome, to prouoke me.
16:27Beholde, therefore I did stretche out mine hand ouer thee, and will diminish thine ordinarie, and deliuer thee vnto the will of them that hate thee, euen to the daughters of the Philistims, which are ashamed of thy wicked way.
16:28Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast insaciable: yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied.
16:29Thou hast moreouer multiplied thy fornication from the land of Canaan vnto Caldea, and yet thou wast not satisfied herewith.
16:30Howe weake is thine heart, saith the Lord God, seeing thou doest all these thinges, euen the worke of a presumptuous whorish woman?
16:31In that thou buildest thine hie place in the corner of euery way, and makest thine hie place in euery streete, and hast not bene as an harlot that despiseth a reward,
16:32But as a wife that playeth the harlot, and taketh others for her husband:
16:33They giue giftes to all other whores, but thou giuest giftes vnto all thy louers, and rewardest them, that they may come vnto thee on euery side for thy fornication.
16:34And the contrary is in thee from other women in thy fornications, neither the like fornication shall be after thee: for in that thou giuest a rewarde, and no reward is giuen vnto thee, therefore thou art contrary.
16:35Wherefore, O harlot, heare the worde of the Lord.
16:36Thus sayeth the Lord God, Because thy shame was powred out, and thy filthinesse discouered through thy fornications with thy louers, and with all the idoles of thine abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou didest offer vnto them,
16:37Beholde, therefore I wil gather all thy louers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loued, with al them that thou hast hated: I will euen gather them round about against thee, and will discouer thy filthines vnto them, that they may see all thy filthines.
16:38And I wil iudge thee after ye maner of them that are harlots, and of them that shead blood, and I wil giue thee the blood of wrath and ielousie.
16:39I will also giue thee into their handes, and they shall destroy thine hie place, and shall breake downe thine hie places. they shall strippe thee also out of thy clothes, and shall take thy faire iewels, and leaue thee naked and bare.
16:40They shall also bring vp a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swordes.
16:41And they shall burne vp thine houses with fire, and execute iudgements vpon thee in the sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou shalt giue no reward any more.
16:42So will I make my wrath towarde thee to rest, and my ielousie shall depart from thee, and I will cease and be no more angrie.
16:43Because thou hast not remembred the dayes of thy youth, but hast prouoked me with all these things, behold, therefore I also haue brought thy way vpon thine head, sayeth the Lord God: yet hast not thou had consideration of all thine abominations.
16:44Beholde, all that vse prouerbes, shall vse this prouerbe against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter.
16:45Thou art thy mothers daughter, that hath cast off her husband and her children, and thou art the sister of thy sisters, which forsooke their husbands and their children: your mother is an Hittite, and your father an Amorite.
16:46And thine elder sister is Samaria, and her daughters, that dwell at thy left hand, and thy yong sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom, and her daughters.
16:47Yet hast thou not walked after their wayes, nor done after their abominations: but as it had bene a very little thing, thou wast corrupted more then they in all thy wayes.
16:48As I liue, saith the Lord God, Sodom thy sister hath not done, neither shee nor her daughters, as thou hast done and thy daughters.
16:49Beholde, this was the iniquitie of thy sister Sodom, Pride, fulnesse of bread, and aboundance of idlenesse was in her, and in her daughters: neither did shee strengthen the hande of the poore and needie.
16:50But they were hautie, and committed abomination before mee: therefore I tooke them away, as pleased me.
16:51Neither hath Samaria committed halfe of thy sinnes, but thou hast exceeded them in thine abominations, and hast iustified thy sisters in all thine abominations, which thou hast done.
16:52Therefore thou which hast iustified thy sisters, beare thine owne shame for thy sinnes, that thou hast committed more abominable then they which are more righteous then thou art: be thou therefore confounded also, and beare thy shame, seeing that thou hast iustified thy sisters.
16:53Therefore I will bring againe their captiuitie with the captiuitie of Sodom, and her daughters, and with the captiuitie of Samaria, and her daughters: euen the captiuitie of thy captiues in the middes of them,
16:54That thou mayest beare thine owne shame, and mayest bee confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou hast comforted them.
16:55And thy sister Sodom and her daughters shall returne to their former state: Samaria also and her daughters shall returne to their former state, when thou and thy daughters shall returne to your former state.
16:56For thy sister Sodom was not heard of by thy report in the day of thy pride,
16:57Before thy wickednes was discouered, as in that same time of the reproch of the daughters of Aram, and of all the daughters of the Philistims round about her which despise thee on all sides.
16:58Thou hast borne therefore thy wickednesse and thine abomination, saith the Lord.
16:59For thus saith the Lord God, I might euen deale with thee, as thou hast done: when thou didest despise the othe, in breaking the couenant.
16:60Neuerthelesse, I wil remember my couenant made with thee in ye dayes of thy youth, and I wil confirme vnto thee an euerlasting couenant.
16:61Then thou shalt remember thy wayes, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receiue thy sisters, both thy elder and thy yonger, and I will giue them vnto thee for daughters, but not by thy couenat.
16:62And I wil establish my couenant with thee, and thou shalt knowe that I am the Lord,
16:63That thou mayest remember, and be ashamed, and neuer open thy mouth any more: because of thy shame when I am pacified toward thee, for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord God.

16:1Agayne, the worde of the Lorde spake vnto me, sayinge:
16:2Thou sonne of man, shewe the cytie of Ierusalem their abhominacions,
16:3& saye: thus sayeth the Lord God vnto Ierusalem: Thy progeny and kynred came out of the lande of Canaan thy father was an Amoryte, thy mother a Cethyte, thus was the maner of thy byrth.
16:4In the daye of thy byrth when thou wast borne, the stringe of thy nauell was not cut of: thou wast not bathed in water to make the clene: Thou wast nether rubbed wt salt, ner swadled in cloutes:
16:5No man regarded the so moch, as to do any of these thinges for the, or to shewe the soch fauoure, but thou wast vtterly cast out vpon the felde, yee, despised wast thou in the daye of thy birth
16:6Then came I by the, and sawe the troden downe in thyne awne bloude, & sayde vnto the: Lyue, although thou be defyled in thyne awne bloude, ye euen I (I tell the) sayde vnto the lyue, although thou be defyled in thyne awne bloude.
16:7So I planted the as the blossome of the felde: thou art growen vp, & waxen greate: thou hast gotten a maruelous pleasaunt beutie, thy breastes are come vp, thy hearre is goodly growen, where as thou wast naked & bare afore.
16:8Nowe whan I wente by the, & loked vpon the: beholde, thy tyme was come, yee, euen the tyme to wowe the. Then spred I my clothes ouer the, to couer thy dishonestye: yee, I made an othe vnto the, & maried my selfe with the (sayeth the Lord God) and so thou becamest myne awne.
16:9Then washed I the with water, and pourged thy bloude from the. I anoynted the with oyle,
16:10I gaue the chaunge of raymentes, I made the shues of Taxus lether: I gyrded the aboute with white sylcke I clothed the with kerchefes,
16:11I decked the wt costly apparell, I put rynges vpon thy fyngers: a chayne aboute thy necke,
16:12spanges vpon thy fore heade, eare rynges vpon thyne eares, and set a bewtifull crowne vpon thyne head.
16:13Thus wast thou deckte with syluer & golde, & thy rayment was of fyne white sylke of nedle worke & of diuerse coloures. Thou dyddest eate nothinge but symnels, honny & oyle: maruelous goodly wast thou & beutyfull, yee euen a very Quene wast thou
16:14In so moch, that thy beuty was spoken of amonge the Heythen, for thou wast excellent in my beuty, which I put vpon the sayeth the Lorde God.
16:15But thou hast put confidence in thyne awne beuty, & played the harlot, when thou haddest gotten the a name. Thou hast committed whordome, with all that wente by the, & hast fulfylled their desyres:
16:16yee, thou hast taken thy garmentes of diuerse colours, & deckte thyne aulters therwith, where vpon thou myghtest fulfyll thyne whordome, & of soch a fashyon, as neuer was done, ner shalbe.
16:17The goodly ornamentes & Iewels which I gaue the of myne awne golde and syluer, hast thou taken, and made the mens ymages therof, & commytted whordome withall.
16:18Thy garmentes of diuerse coloures hast thou taken, and deckte them therwith: myne oyle & incense hast thou set before them.
16:19My meate which I gaue the, as symnels, oyle & hony: (to fede the withall) that hast thou sett before them, for a swete sauoure. And thys came also to passe, sayeth the Lorde God:
16:20Thou hast taken thine awne sonnes & daughters, whom thou haddest begotten vnto me: and these hast thou offred vp vnto them, to be their meate. Is this but a small whordome of thine (thinckest thou)
16:21that thou slayest my chyldren, and geuest them ouer, to be brent vnto them?
16:22And yet in all thy abhominacyons and whordome, thou hast not remembred the dayes of thy youth, howe naked & bare thou wast at that tyme, and troden downe in thyne awne bloude.
16:23After all these thy wyckednesses (wo wo vnto the, sayeth the Lorde)
16:24Thou hast buylte hye places, yee at the head of euery strete hast thou buylded the an aulter.
16:25Thou hast made thy beuty to be abhorred, thou hast layed out thy legges to euery one that came by, & multiplied thyne whoredome.
16:26Thou hast commytted fornicacyon wt the Egypcyans thy neyghbours, which had moch fleshe: and thus hast thou encreased thine whordome, to anger me.
16:27Beholde, I dyd stretch out myne hande ouer the, & dyd minishe thy stoare of fode, and delyuer the ouer in to the wylles of the Philistines thine enemyes, which are ashamed of thy abhominable waye.
16:28Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast insatiable: Yee, thou hast (I saye) with them played the harlot, & yett haddest thou not ynough.
16:29Thus hast thou forthermore commytted thy fornicacyon from the lande of Canaan vnto the Caldees, & yet thy lust not satisfyed.
16:30Howe obstinate is thine herte (sayeth the Lorde God) seynge thou doest all these workes of an erraunt whore:
16:31buyldinge thy stewes at the head of euery strete, & thy brodell houses in all places? Thou hast not bene as an other whore, that holdeth scorne of a small rewarde,
16:32but a wife that breaketh wedlocke, & taketh other in steade of her husbonde.
16:33Gyftes are geuen to all other whores, but thou geuest rewardes vnto all thy louers: & offrest them gyftes, to come vnto the out of all places, & to commytte fornicacyon wt the.
16:34It is come to passe wt the in thy whordomes contrary to the vse of other women: yee, there hath no soch fornicacyon bene committed after the, seynge that thou profrest gyftes vnto other, and no rewarde is geuen the: this is a contrary thinge.
16:35Therfore, heare the worde of the Lorde, O thou harlot:
16:36thus sayeth the Lorde God: For so moch as thou hast sett forth thy youthe to whordome, & discouered thy shame, thorowe thy whordome wt all thy louers, and with all the Idols of thy abhominacyons in the bloude of thy chyldren, whom thou hast geuen them?
16:37Beholde therfore, I will gather together all thy louers, vnto whom thou hast made thy selfe comen: yee, and all them whom thou fauourest, & euery one that thou hatest: I wyll (I saye) gather them together rounde aboute the and will discouer thy shame before them, that they maye se all thy fylthynes.
16:38Moreouer, I will iudge the as a breaker of wedlocke and a murtherer, and recompence the thyne awne bloude in wrath and gelousy.
16:39I will geue the ouer in to their power, that shall breake downe thy stues, & destroye thy brodell houses: they shall strype the out of thy clothes, all thy fayre & beutyfull Iewels shall they take from the, & so let the syt naked & bare:
16:40yee: they shall bringe the comen people vpon the, which shall stone the, & slaye the downe wt their sweardes.
16:41They shall burne vp thy houses, & punysh the in the sight of many wemen. Thus will I make thy whordome to ceasse, so that thou shalt geue out no more rewardes.
16:42Shulde I make my wrath to be still, take my gelousy from the, be content, & no more to be displeased?
16:43seynge thou remembrest not the dayes of thy youth, but hast prouoked me to wrath in all these thinges? Beholde therfore I wyll brynge thyne awne wayes vpon thyne heade, sayeth the Lorde God: howe be it, I neuer dyd vnto the, accordynge to thy wickednesse & all thy abhominacyons.
16:44Beholde, all they that vse comen prouerbes, shall vse thys prouerbe also agaynst the: soche a mother, soch a daughter.
16:45Thou art euen thy mothers awne daughter, that hath cast of hyr housbande & hyr chyldren: Yee, thou art the syster of thy systers, which forsoke their husbandes & their chyldren. Youre mother is a Cethyte, and youre father an Amoryte.
16:46Thyne eldest syster is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell vpon thy left hande. But thy yongest syster that dwelleth on thy ryght hande, is Sodoma & her daughters.
16:47Yet hast thou not walked after their wayes, ner done after their abhominacyons: but thou stodest a lytell & very small tyme, and in all thy wayes thou hast bene more corrupte then they.
16:48As truly as I lyue, sayeth the Lorde God: Sodoma thy syster wt her daughters, hath not done so euell, as thou and thy daughters.
16:49Beholde, the synnes of thy syster Sodoma were these: Pryde, fulnesse of meate, aboundaunce & Idilnesse, these thynges had she & hir daughters. Besydes that, they reached not their hande to the poore and nedy,
16:50but were proude, and dyd abhominable thynges before me: therfore I toke them awaye, as pleased me.
16:51Nether hath Samaria done half of thy synnes, yee, thou hast exceaded them in wickednesse: In so moch that in comparyson of all the abhominacions which thou hast done, thou hast made thy systers good wemen.
16:52Therfore thou (which dydest condempne thy syster) beare thyne awne shame, for thyne awne offences, that thou hast committed, more abhominable then they dyd, which in dead ar more ryghteous, then thou art, be thou (I seye) ashamed, and beare thy shamfull rebuke, seynge that thou hast proued thy systers in comparyson of the ryghtwyse.
16:53As for their captiuyte, namely the captiuyte of Sodoma, & her daughters: the captiuyte of Samaria & her daughters: I will bringe them agayne, so will I also bringe agayne thy captiuyte amonge them:
16:54that thou mayest take thyne awne confusion vpon the, & be ashamed of all that thou hast done, & to comforte them.
16:55Thus thy systers (namely) Sodoma & her daughters: Samaria and her daughters, wt thy selfe, & thy daughters, shalbe brought agayne to youre olde estate.
16:56When thou wast in thy pryde,
16:57& before thy wickednesse came to lyght: thou woldest not heare speake of thy syster Sodoma, vntyll the tyme that the Syrians with all their townes, & the Philistines with all that lye rounde aboute them, brought the to shame & confusyon:
16:58that thou myghtest beare thyne awne fylthynes & abhominacyon, sayeth the Lorde.
16:59For thus sayeth the Lorde God: I shulde (by right) deale with the, as thou hast done. Thou hast despysed the oth, and broken the couenaunte.
16:60Neuerthelesse, I will remembre the couenaunt that I made with the in thy youth in so moch that it shalbe an euerlastinge couenaunt:
16:61so that thou also remembre thy wayes, & be ashamed of them: then shalt thou receaue of me thy elder & yonger systers, whom I wyll make thy daughters, and that besyde thy couenaunt.
16:62And so will I renue my couenaunt with the, that thou mayest knowe that I am the Lorde:
16:63that thou mayest thincke vpon it, be ashamed, and excuse thyne awne confusyon nomore: when I haue forgeuen the, all that thou hast done, sayeth the Lorde God.
