Hosea - Chapter: 4

>
4:1Heare the worde of the Lord, yee children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controuersie with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no trueth, nor mercie, nor knowledge of God in the land.
4:2By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adulterie, they breake out, and blood toucheth blood.
4:3Therefore shall the land mourne, and euery one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beastes of the field, and with the foules of heauen, yea the fishes of the Sea also shall be taken away.
4:4Yet let no man striue, nor reproue another: for this people are as they that striue with the priest.
4:5Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.
4:6My people are destroyed for lacke of knowledge: because thou hast reiected knowledge, I will also reiect thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the lawe of thy God, I wil also forget thy children.
4:7As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therfore wil I change their glory into shame.
4:8They eate vp the sinne of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquitie.
4:9And there shall be like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their wayes, and reward them their doings.
4:10For they shall eate, and not haue enough: they shall commit whordome, and shall not increase, because they haue left off to take heed to the Lord.
4:11Whoredome, and wine, and newe wine take away the heart.
4:12My people aske counsel at their stocks, and their staffe declareth vnto them: for the spirit of whordomes hath caused them to erre, and they haue gone a whoring from vnder their God.
4:13They sacrifice vpon the tops of the mountaines, and burne incense vpon the hilles vnder okes and poplars, and elmes, because the shadowe thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredome, and your spouses shall commit adulterie.
4:14I will not punish your daughters when they commit whordome, nor your spouses when they commit adulterie: for themselues are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therfore the people that doth not vnderstand, shall fall.
4:15Though thou Israel play the harlot, yet let not Iudah offend, and come not ye vnto Gilgal, neither goe ye vp to Beth-auen, nor sweare, The Lord liueth:
4:16For Israel slideth backe, as a backe sliding heifer: now the Lord will feede them as a lambe in a large place.
4:17Ephraim is ioyned to idoles: let him alone.
4:18Their drinke is sowre: they haue committed whordome continually: her rulers with shame doe loue, Giue ye.
4:19The wind hath bound her vp in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.

4:1Heare the worde of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controuersie with the inhabitants of the lande, because there is no trueth nor mercie nor knowledge of God in the lande.
4:2By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and whoring they breake out, and blood toucheth blood.
4:3Therefore shall the land mourne, and euery one that dwelleth therein, shall be cut off, with the beasts of the fielde, and with the foules of the heauen, and also the fishes of the sea shall be taken away.
4:4Yet let none rebuke, nor reproue another: for thy people are as they that rebuke the Priest.
4:5Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the Prophet shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.
4:6My people are destroyed for lacke of knowledge: because thou hast refused knowledge, I will also refuse thee, that thou shalt be no Priest to me: and seeing thou hast forgotten the Lawe of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
4:7As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I chaunge their glorie into shame.
4:8They eate vp the sinnes of my people, and lift vp their mindes in their iniquitie.
4:9And there shalbe like people, like Priest: for I wil visite their wayes vpon them, and reward them their deedes.
4:10For they shall eate, and not haue ynough: they shall commit adulterie, and shall not increase, because they haue left off to take heede to ye Lord.
4:11Whoredome, and wine, and newe wine take away their heart.
4:12My people aske counsell at their stockes, and their staffe teacheth them: for the spirite of fornications hath caused them to erre, and they haue gone a whoring from vnder their God.
4:13They sacrifice vpon the toppes of ye mountaines, and burne incense vpon the hilles vnder the okes, and the poplar tree, and the elme, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall be harlots, and your spouses shall be whores.
4:14I will not visite your daughters when they are harlots: nor your spouses when they are whores: for they themselues are separated with harlots, and sacrifice with whores: therefore the people that doeth not vnderstand, shall fall.
4:15Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Iudah sinne: come not ye vnto Gilgal, neither goe ye vp to Beth-auen, nor sweare, The Lord liueth.
4:16For Israel is rebellious as an vnruly heyfer. Nowe the Lord will feede them as a lambe in a large place.
4:17Ephraim is ioyned to idoles: let him alone.
4:18Their drunkennes stinketh: they haue committed whoredome: their rulers loue to say with shame, Bring ye.
4:19The winde hath bounde them vp in her wings, and they shalbe ashamed of their sacrifices.

4:1Heare the worde of the Lord, O ye chyldren of Israel. For the Lorde must punysh, them that dwell in the lande. And why? There is no trewthe, there is no mercie, there is no knowledge of God in the lande:
4:2but swearyng, lyenge, manslaughter: theft & aduoutry haue gotten the ouerhande, and one bloudgyltinesse foloweth another.
4:3Therfore shall the land be in a miserable case, and all they that dwell therin, shall be roted out. The beastes in the felde, the foules in the ayre, & the fyshes in the see shall dye.
4:4Yet is there none, that wyll chasten nor reproue another. For thy people rebukethe the prestes, whych shulde refourme other men.
4:5Therfore stomblest thou in the daye tyme & the prophet wt the in the nyght. I wyll bring thy mother to sylence, and why?
4:6my people perish, because they haue no knowledg. Seinge then that thou hast refused vnderstanding, therfore wyll I refuse the also: so that thou shalt nomore be my preste. And for so moche as thou hast forgotten the lawe of thy God, I wyll also forget thy chyldren.
4:7The more they increased in the multitude, the more they synned agaynst me, therfore wyll I change theyr honoure into shame.
4:8They eate vp the synnes of my people, and corage them in theyr wickednesse.
4:9Thus the prest is become lyke the people. Wherfore I wyll punish them for their wicked wayes, and rewarde them accordynge to their awne ymaginacyons.
4:10They shall eate, & not haue ynough. They haue vsed whordome, therfore shall they not prospere: and why? they haue forsaken the Lorde and not regarded hym.
4:11Whordome, wyne & dronckenesse taketh the herte awaye.
4:12My people aske councell at their stockes, their staffe must tell them. For an whoryshe mynde hath desceyued them so that they committe fornicacion agaynst theyr God.
4:13They make sacrifyces vpon the hye mountaynes, & burne their incense vpon the hilles, yee, among the okes, groues & bushes, for there are good shadowes. Therfore, youre daughters are become harlottes, and youre spouses haue broken theyr wedlocke,
4:14I wyll not punish youre daughters for beinge defyled, & youre brydes that became whores: seynge the fathers them selues haue medled wt harlottes, & offered wt vnthriftes: but the people that wyll not vnderstande must be punyshed.
4:15Though thou Israel art disposed to playe the harlot, yet shuldest not thou haue offended, O Iuda: thou shuldest not haue runne to Gilgal ner haue gone vp to Bethauen, ner haue sworne, the Lord lyueth.
4:16For Israel is gone backe lyke a wanton cowe. The Lorde therfore shall make her fede, as the lambe that goeth astraye.
4:17And where as Ephraim is become partaker of Idols, wel, let him go.
4:18Their dronckennes hath put them backe, & brought them to whordome. Their rulers loue rewardes, bringe, (saye they) to their awne shame.
4:19A wynde shall take holde of theyr fethers, and they shalbe confounded in theyr offrynges.
