Leviticus - Chapter: 16


16:1	And the LORD spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the LORD, and died;
16:2	And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.
16:3	Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.
16:4	He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on.
16:5	And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.
16:6	And Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make an atonement for himself, and for his house.
16:7	And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
16:8	And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.
16:9	And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the LORD'S lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering.
16:10	But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.
16:11	And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself:
16:12	And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail:
16:13	And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:
16:14	And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.
16:15	Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat:
16:16	And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.
16:17	And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made an atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel.
16:18	And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the LORD, and make an atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about.
16:19	And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.
16:20	And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat:
16:21	And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:
16:22	And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.
16:23	And Aaron shall come into the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall put off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there:
16:24	And he shall wash his flesh with water in the holy place, and put on his garments, and come forth, and offer his burnt offering, and the burnt offering of the people, and make an atonement for himself, and for the people.
16:25	And the fat of the sin offering shall he burn upon the altar.
16:26	And he that let go the goat for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp.
16:27	And the bullock for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall one carry forth without the camp; and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.
16:28	And he that burneth them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.
16:29	And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:
16:30	For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that ye may be clean from all your sins before the LORD.
16:31	It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever.
16:32	And the priest, whom he shall anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister in the priest's office in his father's stead, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen clothes, even the holy garments:
16:33	And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation.
16:34	And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses.


16:1	וידבר יהוה אל משׁה אחרי מות שׁני בני אהרן בקרבתם לפני יהוה וימתו׃
16:2	ויאמר יהוה אל משׁה דבר אל אהרן אחיך ואל יבא בכל עת אל הקדשׁ מבית לפרכת אל פני הכפרת אשׁר על הארן ולא ימות כי בענן אראה על הכפרת׃
16:3	בזאת יבא אהרן אל הקדשׁ בפר בן בקר לחטאת ואיל לעלה׃
16:4	כתנת בד קדשׁ ילבשׁ ומכנסי בד יהיו על בשׂרו ובאבנט בד יחגר ובמצנפת בד יצנף בגדי קדשׁ הם ורחץ במים את בשׂרו ולבשׁם׃
16:5	ומאת עדת בני ישׂראל יקח שׁני שׂעירי עזים לחטאת ואיל אחד לעלה׃
16:6	והקריב אהרן את פר החטאת אשׁר לו וכפר בעדו ובעד ביתו׃
16:7	ולקח את שׁני השׂעירם והעמיד אתם לפני יהוה פתח אהל מועד׃
16:8	ונתן אהרן על שׁני השׂעירם גרלות גורל אחד ליהוה וגורל אחד לעזאזל׃
16:9	והקריב אהרן את השׂעיר אשׁר עלה עליו הגורל ליהוה ועשׂהו חטאת׃
16:10	והשׂעיר אשׁר עלה עליו הגורל לעזאזל יעמד חי לפני יהוה לכפר עליו לשׁלח אתו לעזאזל המדברה׃
16:11	והקריב אהרן את פר החטאת אשׁר לו וכפר בעדו ובעד ביתו ושׁחט את פר החטאת אשׁר׃
16:12	ולקח מלא המחתה גחלי אשׁ מעל המזבח מלפני יהוה ומלא חפניו קטרת סמים דקה והביא מבית לפרכת׃
16:13	ונתן את הקטרת על האשׁ לפני יהוה וכסה ענן הקטרת את הכפרת אשׁר על העדות ולא ימות׃
16:14	ולקח מדם הפר והזה באצבעו על פני הכפרת קדמה ולפני הכפרת יזה שׁבע פעמים מן הדם באצבעו׃
16:15	ושׁחט את שׂעיר החטאת אשׁר לעם והביא את דמו אל מבית לפרכת ועשׂה את דמו כאשׁר עשׂה לדם הפר והזה אתו על הכפרת ולפני הכפרת׃
16:16	וכפר על הקדשׁ מטמאת בני ישׂראל ומפשׁעיהם לכל חטאתם וכן יעשׂה לאהל מועד השׁכן אתם בתוך טמאתם׃
16:17	וכל אדם לא יהיה באהל מועד בבאו לכפר בקדשׁ עד צאתו וכפר בעדו ובעד ביתו ובעד כל קהל ישׂראל׃
16:18	ויצא אל המזבח אשׁר לפני יהוה וכפר עליו ולקח מדם הפר ומדם השׂעיר ונתן על קרנות המזבח סביב׃
16:19	והזה עליו מן הדם באצבעו שׁבע פעמים וטהרו וקדשׁו מטמאת בני ישׂראל׃
16:20	וכלה מכפר את הקדשׁ ואת אהל מועד ואת המזבח והקריב את השׂעיר החי׃
16:21	וסמך אהרן את שׁתי ידו על ראשׁ השׂעיר החי והתודה עליו את כל עונת בני ישׂראל ואת כל פשׁעיהם לכל חטאתם ונתן אתם על ראשׁ השׂעיר ושׁלח ביד אישׁ עתי המדברה׃
16:22	ונשׂא השׂעיר עליו את כל עונתם אל ארץ גזרה ושׁלח את השׂעיר במדבר׃
16:23	ובא אהרן אל אהל מועד ופשׁט את בגדי הבד אשׁר לבשׁ בבאו אל הקדשׁ והניחם שׁם׃
16:24	ורחץ את בשׂרו במים במקום קדושׁ ולבשׁ את בגדיו ויצא ועשׂה את עלתו ואת עלת העם וכפר בעדו ובעד העם׃
16:25	ואת חלב החטאת יקטיר המזבחה׃
16:26	והמשׁלח את השׂעיר לעזאזל יכבס בגדיו ורחץ את בשׂרו במים ואחרי כן יבוא אל המחנה׃
16:27	ואת פר החטאת ואת שׂעיר החטאת אשׁר הובא את דמם לכפר בקדשׁ יוציא אל מחוץ למחנה ושׂרפו באשׁ את ערתם ואת בשׂרם ואת פרשׁם׃
16:28	והשׂרף אתם יכבס בגדיו ורחץ את בשׂרו במים ואחרי כן יבוא אל המחנה׃
16:29	והיתה לכם לחקת עולם בחדשׁ השׁביעי בעשׂור לחדשׁ תענו את נפשׁתיכם וכל מלאכה לא תעשׂו האזרח והגר הגר בתוככם׃
16:30	כי ביום הזה יכפר עליכם לטהר אתכם מכל חטאתיכם לפני יהוה תטהרו׃
16:31	שׁבת שׁבתון היא לכם ועניתם את נפשׁתיכם חקת עולם׃
16:32	וכפר הכהן אשׁר ימשׁח אתו ואשׁר ימלא את ידו לכהן תחת אביו ולבשׁ את בגדי הבד בגדי הקדשׁ׃
16:33	וכפר את מקדשׁ הקדשׁ ואת אהל מועד ואת המזבח יכפר ועל הכהנים ועל כל עם הקהל יכפר׃
16:34	והיתה זאת לכם לחקת עולם לכפר על בני ישׂראל מכל חטאתם אחת בשׁנה ויעשׂ כאשׁר צוה יהוה את משׁה׃


16:1	And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, after the death of the two sons of Aaron, in their drawing near before Jehovah, and they die;
16:2	yea, Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Speak unto Aaron thy brother, and he cometh not in at all times unto the sanctuary within the vail, unto the front of the mercy-seat, which `is' upon the ark, and he dieth not, for in a cloud I am seen upon the mercy-seat.
16:3	`With this doth Aaron come in unto the sanctuary; with a bullock, a son of the herd, for a sin-offering, and a ram for a burnt-offering;
16:4	a holy linen coat he putteth on, and linen trousers are on his flesh, and with a linen girdle he girdeth himself, and with a linen mitre he wrappeth himself up; they `are' holy garments; and he hath bathed with water his flesh, and hath put them on.
16:5	`And from the company of the sons of Israel he taketh two kids of the goats for a sin-offering, and one ram for a burnt-offering;
16:6	and Aaron hath brought near the bullock of the sin-offering which is his own, and hath made atonement for himself, and for his house;
16:7	and he hath taken the two goats, and hath caused them to stand before Jehovah, at the opening of the tent of meeting.
16:8	`And Aaron hath given lots over the two goats, one lot for Jehovah, and one lot for a goat of departure;
16:9	and Aaron hath brought near the goat on which the lot for Jehovah hath gone up, and hath made it a sin-offering.
16:10	`And the goat on which the lot for a goat of departure hath gone up is caused to stand living before Jehovah to make atonement by it, to send it away for a goat of departure into the wilderness.
16:11	`And Aaron hath brought near the bullock of the sin-offering which is his own, and hath made atonement for himself, and for his house, and hath slaughtered the bullock of the sin-offering which `is' his own,
16:12	and hath taken the fulness of the censer of burning coals of fire from off the altar, from before Jehovah, and the fulness of his hands of thin spice-perfume, and hath brought `it' within the vail;
16:13	and he hath put the perfume on the fire before Jehovah, and the cloud of the perfume hath covered the mercy-seat which `is' on the testimony, and he dieth not.
16:14	`And he hath taken of the blood of the bullock, and hath sprinkled with his finger on the front of the mercy-seat eastward; even at the front of the mercy-seat he doth sprinkle seven times of the blood with his finger.
16:15	`And he hath slaughtered the goat of the sin-offering which `is' the people's, and hath brought in its blood unto the inside of the vail, and hath done with its blood as he hath done with the blood of the bullock, and hath sprinkled it on the mercy-seat, and at the front of the mercy-seat,
16:16	and he hath made atonement for the sanctuary because of the uncleanness of the sons of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins; and so he doth for the tent of meeting which is tabernacling with them in the midst of their uncleannesses.
16:17	`And no man is in the tent of meeting in his going in to make atonement in the sanctuary, till his coming out; and he hath made atonement for himself, and for his house, and for all the assembly of Israel.
16:18	`And he hath gone out unto the altar which `is' before Jehovah, and hath made atonement for it; and he hath taken of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and hath put on the horns of the altar round about;
16:19	and he hath sprinkled on it of the blood with his finger seven times, and hath cleansed it, and hath hallowed it from the uncleannesses of the sons of Israel.
16:20	`And he hath ceased from making atonement `for' the sanctuary, and the tent of meeting, and the altar, and hath brought near the living goat;
16:21	and Aaron hath laid his two hands on the head of the living goat, and hath confessed over it all the iniquities of the sons of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, and hath put them on the head of the goat, and hath sent `it' away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness;
16:22	and the goat hath borne on him all their iniquities unto a land of separation. `And he hath sent the goat away into the wilderness,
16:23	and Aaron hath come in unto the tent of meeting, and hath stripped off the linen garments which he had put on in his going in unto the sanctuary, and hath placed them there;
16:24	and he hath bathed his flesh with water in the holy place, and hath put on his garments, and hath come out, and hath made his burnt-offering, and the burnt-offering of the people, and hath made atonement for himself and for the people;
16:25	and with the fat of the sin-offering he doth make perfume on the altar.
16:26	`And he who is sending away the goat for a goat of departure doth wash his garments, and hath bathed his flesh with water, and afterwards he cometh in unto the camp.
16:27	`And the bullock of the sin-offering, and the goat of the sin-offering, whose blood hath been brought in to make atonement in the sanctuary, doth `one' bring out unto the outside of the camp, and they have burnt with fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung;
16:28	and he who is burning them doth wash his garments, and hath bathed his flesh with water, and afterwards he cometh in unto the camp.
16:29	`And it hath been to you for a statute age-during, in the seventh month, in the tenth of the month, ye humble yourselves, and do no work -- the native, and the sojourner who is sojourning in your midst;
16:30	for on this day he maketh atonement for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins before Jehovah ye are clean;
16:31	it `is' to you a sabbath of rest, and ye have humbled yourselves -- a statute age-during.
16:32	`And the priest whom he doth anoint, and whose hand he doth consecrate to act as priest instead of his father, hath made atonement, and hath put on the linen garments, the holy garments;
16:33	and he hath made atonement `for' the holy sanctuary; and `for' the tent of meeting, even `for' the altar he doth make atonement; yea, for the priests, and for all the people of the assembly he maketh atonement.
16:34	`And this hath been to you for a statute age-during, to make atonement for the sons of Israel, because of all their sins, once in a year;' and he doth as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.
