Matthew - Chapter: 4


4:1	Then was Iesus led away of the spirite into wildernes, to be tempted of the deuyll.
4:2	And when he had fasted .xl. dayes & .xl. nightes, he was afterwarde an hungred.
4:3	Then came to him the temptour, & said: if thou be the sonne of God, commaunde that these stones be made bread.
4:4	He aunswered and said: it is written, man shall not lyue by breade onlye, but by euerye worde that procedeth out of the mouth of God.
4:5	Then the deuyll toke him vp into the holye cytye, and set him on a pinacle of the temple,
4:6	& sayd vnto him: if thou be the sonne of God cast thy selfe doune. For it is written, he shall geue his aungels charge ouer the, & with their handes they shal holde the vp, that thou dashe not thy fote against a stone:
4:7	And Iesus said to him, it is written also: Thou shalt not tempt thy lord God.
4:8	The deuil toke him vp again & ledde him into an exceding hye mountayne, and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world, & al the glory of them,
4:9	& said to him: al these wyl I geue the, if thou wilt fall doune & worshyppe me.
4:10	Then sayd Iesus vnto him. Auoide sathan. For it is wrytten, thou shalt worshippe the Lord thy God and him only shalt thou serue.
4:11	Then the diuel left him, & beholde, the aungels came and ministred vnto him.
4:12	When Iesus had heard that Iohn was taken, he departed into Galile
4:13	and left Nazareth, and went and dwelt in Capernaum, which is a citye vpon the sea, in the coastes of Zabulon & Nephthalim,
4:14	to fulfil that which was spoken by Esay the prophete, sayinge.
4:15	The lande of Zabulon and Nephthalym, the waye of the sea beyonde Iordan, Galile of the gentils,
4:16	the people which sate in darkenes, sawe great light, & to them which sate in the regyon and shadowe of death, light is begonne to shine.
4:17	From the tyme Iesus began to preache, & to say repent for the kingdom of heauen is at hand.
4:18	As Iesus walked by the sea of Galile, he sawe two brethren: Symon which was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fysshers,
4:19	& he sayed vnto them, folowe me, and I wyll make you fysshers of men.
4:20	And they straight waye left their nettes, and folowed hym.
4:21	And he went forth from thence, and sawe other two brethren, Iames the sonne of Zebede, and Ihon his brother, in the shippe wyth Zebede their father, mending their nets, and called them.
4:22	And they without tarringe left the shyp and their father and folowed hym.
4:23	And Iesus went about al Galile, teaching in their sinagoges, & preaching the gospel of the kingdome, & healed al maner of sickenes, & all maner of diseases among the people.
4:24	And his fame sprede abrode through out all Siria. And they brought vnto him all sycke people that were taken with diuers diseases & gripinges, and them that were possessed with deuils and those which were lunatike, & those that had the palsie: & he healed them,
4:25	& their folowed hym a great numbre of people, from Galyle. And from the ten cities, & from Ierusalem & from Iurie & from the regions that lye beiond Iordan.

4:3	And when the tempter came to hym, he sayde: yf thou be the sonne of God commaunde, that these stones be made bread:

4:6	and sayeth vnto him: yf thou be the sonne of God, cast thy selfe downe headling. For it is written he shall geue hys angels charge ouer the, & with their handes they shal holde the vp, lest at any tyme thou dash thy fote agaynst a stone.
4:7	And Iesus sayde to hym: it is wrytten agayne: Thou shalt not tempte the Lorde thy God.
4:8	Agayne, the deuel taketh him vp into an exceading hye mountayne, and sheweth him all the kyngdomes of the world, and the glory of them,
4:9	and sayeth vnto hym: all these will I geue the, yf thou wylt fall downe, & worshyppe me.
4:10	Then sayeth Iesus vnto hym Auoyde Satan. For it is written: Thou shalt worshyp the Lorde thy God, and hym onely shalt thou serue.
4:11	Then the deuyl leaueth him, and behold, the angels came, & ministed vnto him.
4:12	When Iesus had heard that Iohn was taken, he departed into Galyle,
4:13	and left Nazareth, and went and dwelt in Capernaum: whych is a cytie vpon the see coast; in the borders of Zabulon & Neptalim:
4:14	that it myght be fulfilled which was spoken by Esay the prophet, saying:
4:15	The lande of Zabulon & Neptalim, by the waye of the see beyonde Iordan, Galile of the Gentils:
4:16	the people which satt in darckenesse and in the shadowe of death, sawe great light: & to them which sat in the region & shadowe of death, is the light sprong vp.
4:17	From that tyme, Iesus beganne to preache, and to saye: repent, for the kyngdome of heauen is at hande.
4:18	As Iesus walked by the see of Galile he sawe two brethren: Symon, which was called Peter, & Andrew his brother, castyng a neet into the see (for they were fisshers)
4:19	and he sayth vnto them: folowe me, and I wyll make you fisshers of men.
4:20	And they streyght waye lefte the nettes, and folowed hym.
4:21	And whan he was gone forth fro thence, he sawe other two brethren, Iames the sonne of Zebede, & Iohn his brother, in the shyp wt Zebede their father, mending their nettes, & he called them.
4:22	And they immediatly lefte the shyp and theyr father, and folowed hym.
4:23	And Iesus went about all Galile, teachynge in their synagoges, & preachynge the gospel of the kingdome, and healing all maner of sycknes, & all maner of disease amonge the people.
4:24	And hys fame spreed abroade throughout al Siria. And they brought vnto him all syck people that were taken with dyuers diseases and grypynges, and them that were possessed with deuyls: and those which were lunatyke, & those that had the palsye: & he healed them.
4:25	And ther folowed hym great multitudes of people, from Galile, and from the ten cytes, and from Ierusalem, and from Iewry, and from the regions that lye beyonde Iordan.

4:9	And sayd to him, All these will I giue thee, if thou wilt fall downe, and worship me.
4:10	Then sayd Iesus vnto him, Auoyde Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him onely shalt thou serue.
4:11	Then the deuill left him: and beholde, the Angels came, and ministred vnto him.
4:12	And when Iesus had heard that Iohn was committed to prison, he returned into Galile.
4:13	And leauing Nazareth, went and dwelt in Capernaum, which is neere the sea in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim,
4:14	That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the Propet, saying,
4:15	The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim by the way of the sea, beyond Iordan, Galile of the Gentiles:
4:16	The people which sate in darkenes, sawe great light: and to them which sate in the region, and shadowe of death, light is risen vp.
4:17	From that time Iesus began to preach, and to say, Amende your liues: for the kingdome of heauen is at hand.
4:18	And Iesus walking by the sea of Galile, sawe two brethren, Simon, which was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishers.)
4:19	And he sayd vnto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
4:20	And they straightway leauing the nets, folowed him.
4:21	And when he was gone forth from thence, he saw other two brethren, Iames the sonne of Zebedeus, and Iohn his brother in a ship with Zebedeus their father, mending their nets, and he called them.
4:22	And they without tarying, leauing the ship, and their father, folowed him.
4:23	So Iesus went about all Galile, teaching in their Synagogues, and preaching the Gospel of the kingdome, and healing euery sicknesse and euery disease among the people.
4:24	And his fame spread abroad through all Syria: and they brought vnto him all sicke people, that were taken with diuers diseases and torments, and them that were possessed with deuils, and those which were lunatike, and those that had the palsey: and he healed them.
4:25	And there folowed him great multitudes out of Galile, and Decapolis, and Hierusalem, and Iudea, and from beyond Iordan.
