4:1	Thanne Jhesus was led of a spirit in to desert, to be temptid of the feend.
4:2	And whanne he hadde fastid fourti daies and fourti nyytis, aftirward he hungride.
4:3	And the tempter cam nyy, and seide to hym, If thou art Goddis sone, seie that thes stoones be maad looues.
4:4	Which answeride, and seide to hym, It is writun, Not oonli in breed luyeth man, but in ech word that cometh of Goddis mouth.
4:5	Thanne the feend took hym in to the hooli citee, and settide hym on the pynacle of the temple,
4:6	and seide to hym, If thou art Goddis sone, sende thee adoun; for it is writun, That to hise aungels he comaundide of thee, and thei schulen take thee in hondis, lest perauenture thou hirte thi foot at a stoon.
4:7	Eftsoone Jhesus seide to hym, It is writun, Thou shalt not tempte thi Lord God.
4:8	Eftsoone the feend took hym in to a ful hiy hil, and schewide to hym alle the rewmes of the world, and the ioye of hem;
4:9	and seide to hym, Alle these `Y schal yyue to thee, if thou falle doun and worschipe me.
4:10	Thanne Jhesus seide to hym, Goo, Sathanas; for it is writun, Thou schalt worschipe thi Lord God, and to hym aloone thou shalt serue.
4:11	Thanne the feend lafte hym; and lo! aungels camen nyy, and serueden to hym.
4:12	But whanne Jhesus hadde herd that Joon was takun, he wente in to Galilee.
4:13	And he lefte the citee of Nazareth, and cam, and dwelte in the citee of Cafarnaum, biside the see, in the coostis of Zabulon and Neptalym,
4:14	that it shulde be fulfillid, that was seid by Ysaie, the profete, seiynge,
4:15	The lond of Sabulon and the lond of Neptalym, the weie of the see ouer Jordan, of Galilee of hethen men,
4:16	the puple that walkide in derknessis saye greet liyt, and while men satten in the cuntre of shadewe of deth, liyt aroos to hem.
4:17	Fro that tyme Jhesus bigan to preche, and seie, Do ye penaunce, for the kyngdom of heuenes schal come niy.
4:18	And Jhesus walkide bisidis the see of Galilee, and saye twei britheren, Symount, that is clepid Petre, and Andrewe, his brothir, castynge nettis in to the see; for thei weren fischeris.
4:19	And he seide to hem, Come ye aftir me, and Y shal make you to be maad fisscheris of men.
4:20	And anoon thei leften the nettis, and sueden hym.
4:21	And he yede forth fro that place, and saie tweyne othere britheren, James of Zebede, and Joon, his brother, in a schip with Zebede, her fadir, amendynge her nettis, and he clepide hem.
4:22	And anoon thei leften the nettis and the fadir, and sueden hym.
4:23	And Jhesus yede aboute al Galilee, techynge in the synagogis of hem, and prechynge the gospel of the kyngdom, and heelynge euery languor and eche sekenesse among the puple.
4:24	And his fame wente in to al Sirie; and thei brouyten to hym alle that weren at male ese, and that weren take with dyuerse languores and turmentis, and hem that hadden feendis, and lunatike men, and men in palesy, and he heelide hem.
4:25	And ther sueden hym myche puple of Galile, and of Decapoli, and of Jerusalem, and of Judee, and of biyende Jordan.


4:1	Then was Iesus ledd awaye of ye spirite into wildernes to be tempted of ye devyll.
4:2	And when he had fasted fourtye dayes and fourtye nightes he was afterward an hungred.
4:3	Then came to hym the tempter and sayde: yf thou be the sonne of God commaunde that these stones be made breed.
4:4	He answered and sayde: yt is wrytten man shall not lyve by brede onlye but by every worde yt proceadeth out of the mouth of God.
4:5	Then the devyll tooke hym vp into ye holy cite and set hym on a pynacle of the teple
4:6	and sayd vnto hym: yf thou be the sonne of God cast thy sylfe doune. For it is wrytte he shall geve his angels charge over the and with their handes they shall holde yt vp that thou dashe not thy fote agaynst a stone.
4:7	And Iesus sayde to hym it ys wrytten also: Thou shalt not tempte thy Lorde God.
4:8	The devyll toke hym vp agayne and ledde hym in to an excedynge hye mountayne and shewed hym all the kyngdomes of ye worlde and all ye glorie of them
4:9	and sayde to hym: all these will I geue ye if thou wilt faull doune and worship me.
4:10	Then sayde Iesus vnto hym. Avoyd Satan. For it is writte thou shalt worshyp ye Lorde thy God and hym only shalt thou serve.
4:11	Then the dyvell left hym and beholde the angels came and ministred vnto hym.
4:12	When Iesus had hearde yt Ihon was taken he departed into Galile
4:13	and left Nazareth and went and dwelte in Capernaum which is a cite apon the see in ye coostes of zabulon and Neptalim
4:14	to fulfill that whiche was spoken by Esay the Prophet sayinge:
4:15	The londe of zabulon and Neptalim the waye of the see beyonde Iordan Galile of the Gentyls
4:16	ye people which sat in darknes sawe greate lyght and to them which sate in the region and shadowe of deeth lyght is begone to shyne.
4:17	From yt tyme Iesus begane to preache and to saye: repet for ye kigdome of heve is at hode.
4:18	As Iesus walked by the see of Galile he sawe two brethren: Simon which was called Peter and Andrew his brother castynge a neet into the see for they were fisshers
4:19	and he sayde vnto them folowe me and I will make you fisshers of men.
4:20	And they strayght waye lefte their nettes and folowed hym.
4:21	And he went forthe from thence and sawe other twoo brethren Iames the sonne of zebede and Ihon his brother in the shippe with zebede their father mendynge their nettes and called them.
4:22	And they with out taryinge lefte the shyp and their father and folowed hym.
4:23	And Iesus went aboute all Galile teachyng in their synagoges and preachynge ye gospell of the kyngdome and healed all maner of sicknes and all maner dyseases amoge ye people.
4:24	And his fame spreed abroode through oute all Siria. And they brought vnto hym all sicke people that were taken with divers diseases and gripinges and them yt were possessed with devils and those which were lunatyke and those that had the palsie: and he healed the.
4:25	And ther folowed hym a greate nombre of people from Galile and from the ten cyties and from Ierusalem and from Iury and from ye regions that lye beyonde Iordan.
