Matthew - Chapter: 12

>
12:1In that tyme Jhesus wente bi cornes in the sabot day; and hise disciplis hungriden, and bigunnen to plucke the eris of corn, and to ete.
12:2And Fariseis, seynge, seiden to hym, Lo! thi disciplis don that thing that is not leueful to hem to do in sabatis.
12:3And he seide to hem, Whether ye han not red, what Dauid dide, whanne he hungride, and thei that weren with hym?
12:4hou he entride in to the hous of God, and eet looues of proposicioun, whiche looues it was not leueful to hym to ete, nether to hem that weren with hym, but to prestis aloone?
12:5Or whether ye han not red in the lawe, that in sabotis prestis in the temple defoulen the sabotis, and thei ben with oute blame?
12:6And Y seie to you, that here is a gretter than the temple.
12:7And if ye wisten, what it is, Y wole merci, and not sacrifice, ye schulden neuer haue condempned innocentis.
12:8For mannus Sone is lord, yhe, of the sabat.
12:9And whanne he passide fro thennus, he cam in to the synagoge of hem.
12:10And lo! a man that hadde a drye hoond. And thei axiden hym, and seiden, Whether it be leueful to hele in the sabot? that thei schulden acuse hym.
12:11And he seide to hem, What man of you schal be, that hath o scheep, and if it falle in to a diche in the sabotis, whether he shal not holde, and lifte it vp?
12:12How myche more is a man better than a scheep? Therfor it is leueful to do good in the sabatis.
12:13Thanne he seide to the man, Stretche forth thin hoond. And he strauyte forth; and it was restorid to heelthe as the tothir.
12:14And the Farisees wenten out, and maden a counsel ayens hym, hou thei schulden distrie hym.
12:15And Jhesus knewe it, and wente awei fro thennus; and many sueden hym, and he helide hem alle.
12:16And he comaundide to hem, that thei schulden not make hym knowun;
12:17that that thing were fulfillid, that was seid by Isaie, the prophete, seiynge, Lo!
12:18my child, whom Y haue chosun, my derling, in whom it hath wel plesid to my soule; Y shal put my spirit on him, and he shal telle dom to hethen men.
12:19He shal not stryue, ne crye, nethir ony man shal here his voice in stretis.
12:20A brisid rehed he shal not breke, and he schal not quenche smokynge flax, til he caste out doom to victorie;
12:21and hethene men schulen hope in his name.
12:22Thanne a man blynde and doumbe, that hadde a feend, was brouyt to hym; and he helide hym, so that he spak, and say.
12:23And al the puple wondride, and seide, Whether this be the sone of Dauid?
12:24But the Farisees herden, and seiden, He this casteth not out feendis, but in Belsabub, prince of feendis.
12:25And Jhesus, witynge her thouytis, seide to hem, Eche kingdom departid ayens it silf, schal be desolatid, and eche cite, or hous, departid ayens it self, schal not stonde.
12:26And if Satanas castith out Satanas, he is departid ayens him silf; therfor hou schal his kingdom stonde?
12:27And if Y in Belsabub caste out deuelis, in `whom youre sones casten out? Therfor thei schulen be youre domes men.
12:28But if Y in the Spirit of God caste out feendis, thanne the kyngdom of God is comen in to you.
12:29Ethir hou may ony man entre in to the hous of a stronge man, and take awey hise vesselis, but `he first bynde the stronge man, and thanne he schal spuyle his hous?
12:30He that is not with me, is ayens me; and he that gaderith not togidere with me, scaterith abrood.
12:31Therfor I seie to you, al synne and blasfemye shal be foryouun to men, but `the spirit of blasfemye shal not be foryouun.
12:32And who euere seith a word ayens mannus sone, it shal be foryouun to him; but who that seieth a word ayens the Hooli Goost, it shal not be foryouun to hym, nether in this world, ne in `the tothir.
12:33Ethir make ye the tree good, and his fruyt good; ether make ye the tree yuel and his fruyt yuel; for a tree is knowun of the fruyt.
12:34Ye generacioun of eddris, hou moun ye speke goode thingis, whanne ye ben yuele? For the mouth spekith of plente of the herte.
12:35A good man bryngith forth good thingis of good tresoure, and an yuel man bringith forth yuel thingis of yuel tresoure.
12:36And Y seie to you, that of euery idel word, that men speken, thei schulen yelde resoun therof in the dai of doom;
12:37for of thi wordis thou schalt be iustified, and of thi wordis thou shalt be dampned.
12:38Thanne summe of the scribis and Farisees answeriden to hym, and seiden, Mayster, we wolen se a tokne of thee.
12:39Which answeride, and seide to hem, An yuel kynrede and a spouse brekere sekith a tokene, and a tokene shal not be youun to it, but the tokene of Jonas, the prophete.
12:40For as Jonas was in the wombe of a whal thre daies and thre nyytis, so mannus sone shal be in the herte of the erthe thre daies and thre nyytis.
12:41Men of Nynyue schulen rise in doom with this generacioun, and schulen condempne it; for thei diden penaunce in the prechyng of Jonas, and lo! here a gretter than Jonas.
12:42The queene of the south shal rise in doom with this generacioun, and schal condempne it; for she cam fro the eendis of the erthe to here the wisdom of Salomon, and lo! here a gretter than Salomon.
12:43Whanne an vnclene spirit goith out fro a man, he goith bi drie places, `and sekith rest, and fyndith not.
12:44Thanne he seith, Y shal turne ayen in to myn hous, fro whannys Y wente out. And he cometh, and fyndith it voide, and clensid with besyms, and maad faire.
12:45Thanne he goith, and takith with him seuene othere spiritis worse than hym silf; and thei entren, and dwellen there. And the laste thingis of that man ben maad worse than the formere. So it shal be to this worste generacioun.
12:46Yit whil he spak to the puple, lo! his modir and his bretheren stoden withouteforth, sekynge to speke to hym.
12:47And a man seide to hym, Lo! thi modir and thi britheren stonden withouteforth, sekynge thee.
12:48He answeride to the man, that spak to hym, and seide, Who is my modir? and who ben my britheren?
12:49And he helde forth his hoond in to hise disciplis, and seide, Lo! my modir and my bretheren;
12:50for who euer doith the wille of my fadir that is in heuenes, he is my brothir, and sistir, and modir.

12:1In that tyme went Iesus on the Sabot dayes thorow the corne and his disciples were anhogred and begane to plucke the eares of coorne and to eate.
12:2When ye pharises sawe that they sayde vnto him: Beholde thy disciples do that which is not lawfull to do apon ye saboth daye.
12:3He sayde vnto the: Haue ye not reed what David did whe he was anhougered and they also which were with him?
12:4How he entred into the housse of God and ate ye halowed loves which were not lawfull for him to eate nether for the which were wt him but only for ye prestes.
12:5Or have ye not reed in ye lawe how that ye prestes in ye temple breake the saboth daye and yet are blamlesse?
12:6But I saye vnto you: that here is one greater then ye teple.
12:7Wherfore yf ye had wist what this sayinge meneth: I require mercy and not sacrifice: ye wold never have condened innocetes.
12:8For ye sonne of man is lord even of ye saboth daye.
12:9And he departed thence and went into their synagoge:
12:10and beholde ther was a man whiche had his hande dryed vp. And they axed him sayinge: ys it lawfull to heale apon ye saboth dayes? because they myght acuse him.
12:11And he sayde vnto the: whiche of you wolde it be yf he had a shepe fallen into a pitte on ye saboth daye that wolde not take him and lyft him out?
12:12And how moche is a man better the a shepe? Wherfore it is lefull to do a good dede on the saboth dayes.
12:13Then sayde he to ye ma: stretch forth thy had. And he stretched it forthe. And it was made whole agayne lyke vnto ye other.
12:14Then ye Pharyses wet out and helde a cousell agaynst hym how they myght destroye hym.
12:15When Iesus knewe yt he departed thece and moche people folowed him and he healed the all
12:16and charged the that they shuld not make him knowe:
12:17to fulfyll that which was spoden by Esay ye Prophet which sayeth.
12:18Beholde my chylde who I have chosen my beloved in who my soule deliteth. I wyll put my sprete on hym and he shall shewe iudgemet to ye gentyls.
12:19He shall not stryve he shall not crye nether shall eny man heare his voyce in ye streetes
12:20a brosed rede shall he not breacke and flaxe that begynneth to burne he shall not queche tyll he sende forth iudgement vnto victory
12:21and in hys name shall the gentyls truste.
12:22Then was brought to hym one possessed with a devyll which was both blynde and domme: and he healed hym insomoch that he which was blynd and domme both spake and sawe.
12:23And all the people were amased and sayde: Ys not this that sonne of David?
12:24But when the Pharises hearde that they sayde: This felow dryveth ye devyls no nother wyse oute but by the helpe of Belzebub ye chefe of the devyls.
12:25But Iesus knewe their thoughtes and sayde to the. Every kingdome devided wt in it sylfe shalbe brought to naught. Nether shall eny cite or housholde devyded agest it sylfe cotynue.
12:26So if sata cast out sata the is he devyded agenst him sylfe. How shall then his kyngdome endure?
12:27Also if I by ye helpe of Belzebub cast oute devyls: by whose helpe do youre chyldren cast them out? Therfore they shalbe youre iudges.
12:28But if I cast out the devyls by the sprite of God: then is the kyngdome of god come on you?
12:29Ether how can a ma enter into a stroge manes housse and violently take awaye his goodes: excepte he fyrst binde ye stroge man and the spoyle his housse?
12:30He that is not wt me is agaynst me. And he yt gaddereth not wt me scattereth abrode.
12:31Wherfore I say vnto you all maner of synne and blasphemy shalbe forgeven vnto men: but the blasphemy of ye sprite shall not be forgeven vnto men.
12:32And whoso ever speaketh a worde agaynst the sonne of man it shalbe forgeven him. But whosoever speaketh agaynst the holy goost it shall not be forgeven hym: no nether in this worlde nether in the worlde to come.
12:33Ether make ye tree good and his frute good also: or els make ye tree evyll and his frute evyll also. For ye tree is knowe by his frute.
12:34O generacio of viperes how can ye saye well whe ye youre selves are evyll? For of ye aboundace of the hert ye mouthe speaketh.
12:35A good ma oute of ye good treasure of his hert bringeth forth good thynges. And an evyll man out of his evyll treasure bringeth forth evyll thinges.
12:36But I say vnto you that of every ydell worde that men shall have spoken: they shall geve acountes at the daye of iudgement.
12:37For by thy wordes thou shalt be iustifyed: and by thy wordes thou shalt be condemned.
12:38Then answered certeyne of the scribes and of the Pharises sayinge: Master we wolde fayne se a sygne of ye.
12:39He answered and sayde to the: The evyll and advoutrous generacio seketh a signe but ther shall no signe be geve to the saue the signe of the Prophete Ionas.
12:40For as Ionas was thre dayes and thre nyghtes in the whales belly: soo shall ye sonne of man be thre dayes and thre nyghtes in ye hert of ye erth.
12:41The men of Ninivie shall rise at the daye of iugdement with this nacion and condemne them: for they amended at ye preachinge of Ionas. And beholde a greater then Ionas is here.
12:42The quene of ye south shall ryse at ye daye of iudgement with this generacion and shall condemne the: for she came fro the vtmost parties of the worlde to heare the wysdome of Salomon. And beholde a greater then Salomo is here.
12:43When the vnclene sprite is gone out of a man he walketh throughout dry places seking reest and fyndeth none.
12:44Then he sayeth: I will retourne ageyne into my housse fro whece I came oute. And when he is come he fyndeth the housse empty and swepte and garnisshed.
12:45Then he goeth his waye and taketh vnto him seven other spretes worsse then himsilfe and so entre they in and dwell there. And the ende of that man is worsse then the beginning. Even so shall it be with this evell nacion.
12:46Whill he yet talked to the people: beholde his mother and his brethren stode without desyringe to speake with him.
12:47Then one sayde vnto hym: beholde thy mother and thy brethre stonde without desiringe to speke wt the.
12:48He answered and sayd to him that tolde hym: Who is my mother? or who are my brethren?
12:49And he stretched forth his hond over his disciples and sayd: behold my mother and my brethren.
12:50For whosoever dothe my fathers will which is in heve the same is my brother suster and mother.

12:1At the same tyme wete Iesus thorow the corne vpon the Sabbath, and his disciples were hongrie, and beganne to plucke of the eares of the corne, and to eate.
12:2When ye Pharises sawe that, they sayde vnto him: Beholde, thy disciples do that, which is not laufull to do vpon the Sabbath.
12:3He sayde vnto them: haue ye not red what Dauid did, whan he was hongrie, & they also yt were with him?
12:4How he entred in to the house of God, & ate the shew breds which were not laufull for him to eate, nether for the yt were with him, but onely for the prestes?
12:5Or haue ye not red in the lawe how that the prestes in the temple breake the Sabbath, and yet are blamelesse?
12:6But I saye vnto you: yt here is one greater then the temple.
12:7But yf ye wyst what this were (I haue pleasure in mercy, and not in offeringe) ye wolde not haue condemned innocentes:
12:8For the sonne of man is LORDE euen ouer the Sabbath.
12:9And he departed thence, and wente in to their synagoge:
12:10and beholde, there was a ma which had his hade dryed vp. And they axed him, sayenge: Is it laufull to heale, vpon the Sabbath? because they might accuse him.
12:11But he sayde vnto the: Which of you is it, yf he had a shepe falle in to a pytte vpon the Sabbath, that wolde not take him, and lift him out?
12:12And how moch is a man better then a shepe? Therfore it is lefull to do good vpon the Sabbath.
12:13Then sayde he to the ma: Stretch forth thine hande. And he stretched it forth: and it was whole agayne like vnto the other.
12:14Then wente the Pharises out, and helde a councell agaynst him, how they might destroye him.
12:15But wha Iesus knew therof, he departed thence, & moch people folowed him: and he healed them all,
12:16and charged them, yt they shulde not make him knowne:
12:17that the thinge might be fulfylled, which was spoken by Esay the prophet, which sayeth:
12:18Beholde, this is my seruaunt, whom I haue chosen: and my beloued, in whom my soule delyteth: I wil put my sprete vpon hi, and he shal shewe iudgment vnto the Heithe.
12:19He shal not stryue, ner crye, nether shal eny man heare his voyce in the stretes.
12:20A brosed rede shal he not breake, and flax that beginneth to burne shal he not quench, tyll he sende forth iudgment vnto victory.
12:21And in his name shal the Heithen trust.
12:22Then was there brought vnto him one possessed (of a deuell) the which was blynde and domne, and he healed him: in so moch yt ye blynde and domne both spake and sawe.
12:23And all the people were amased, and sayde: Is not this the sonne of Dauid?
12:24But whan the Pharises herde that, they sayde: He dryueth the deuyls out none other wyse, but thorow Beelzebub the chefe of the deuyls.
12:25Neuertheles Iesus knew their thoughtes, and sayde vnto them: Euery kyngdome deuyded within it self, shalbe desolate: and euery cite or house deuyded in it self, maye not contynue.
12:26So yf one Sathan cast out another, the is he at variaunce within him self: how maye then his kyngdome endure?
12:27But yf I cast out deuils thorow Beelzebub, thorow whom do youre childre cast them out? Therfore shal they be youre iudges.
12:28But yf I cast out the deuyls by the sprete of God then is the kyngdome of God come vpon you.
12:29Or how ca a man entre in to a stronge mans house, and violently take awaye his goodes, excepte he first bynde the stronge ma, & the spoyle his house?
12:30He that is not wt me, is agaynst me: & he yt gathereth not wt me, scatereth abrode.
12:31Therfore I saye vnto you: All synne and blasphemy shalbe forgeuen vnto men, but the blasphemy agaynst the sprete shal not be forgeuen vnto men:
12:32And whosoeuer speaketh a worde agaynst the sonne of man, it shalbe forgeue him. But whosoeuer speaketh agaynst the holy goost it shal not be forgeuen him, nether in this worlde, ner in the worlde to come.
12:33Either make the tre good and his frute good also, or els make the tre euel & his frute euel also. For the tre is knowne by the frute.
12:34O ye generacio of vypers, how can ye speake good, whan ye youre selues are euell? For of ye abundace of ye hert ye mouth speaketh.
12:35A good man out of the good treasure of his hert, bringeth forth good thinges: & an euel man out of his euell treasure, bringeth forth euell thinges.
12:36But I saye vnto you, that of euery ydell worde that me haue spoken, they shal geue accomptes at ye daye of iudgmet.
12:37Out of thy wordes thou shalt be iustified, & out of thy wordes thou shalt be codemned.
12:38Then answered certayne of the scrybes and Pharises, and sayde: Master, we wolde fayne se a toke of the.
12:39And he answered and saide vnto the: This euell and aduouterous generacion seketh a token: and there shal no token be geuen the, but the token of the prophete Ionas.
12:40For as Ionas was thre dayes and thre nightes in the Whalles bely, so shal the sonne of ma be thre dayes and thre nightes in the hert of the earth.
12:41The men of Ninyue shal ryse in the last iudgment with this generacion, and shal condemne it: for they dyd penaunce acordinge to ye preachinge of Ionas. And beholde, here is one greater the Ionas.
12:42The quene of the south shal aryse in the last iudgmet with this generacion, and shal condene it: for she came from the vttemost partes of the earth, to heare ye wyssdome of Salomon: And lo, here is one greater then Salomon.
12:43Whan the vncleane sprete is gone out of man, he walketh thorow dry places, sekinge rest, & fyndeth none.
12:44The saieth he: I wil turne agayne in to my house, fro whence I wete out. And whan he cometh, he fyndeth it emptye, swepte and garnyshed.
12:45Then goeth he his waye, & taketh vnto him seuen other spretes worse then him self: and whan they are entred in, they dwell there: And the ende of that man is worse then the begynnynge. Euen so shal it go wt this euell generacion.
12:46Whyle he yet talked vnto the people, beholde, his mother & his brethre stode without desyringe to speake wt him.
12:47Then sayde one vnto him: Beholde, thy mother and thy brethren stonde without, & wolde speake wt the.
12:48Neuertheles he answered & sayde vnto him that tolde him: Who is my mother? & who are my brethren?
12:49And he stretched forth his hande ouer his disciples, & sayde: Beholde my mother and my brethre.
12:50For who soeuer doth ye wyll of my father which is in heaue, the same is my brother, sister and mother.
