Matthew - Chapter: 14


14:1	At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
14:2	And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
14:3	For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.
14:4	For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.
14:5	And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.
14:6	But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.
14:7	Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask.
14:8	And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.
14:9	And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her.
14:10	And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
14:11	And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.
14:12	And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
14:13	When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.
14:14	And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
14:15	And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
14:16	But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.
14:17	And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
14:18	He said, Bring them hither to me.
14:19	And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
14:20	And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
14:21	And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
14:22	And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.
14:23	And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
14:24	But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
14:25	And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
14:26	And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
14:27	But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
14:28	And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
14:29	And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
14:30	But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
14:31	And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
14:32	And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
14:33	Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
14:34	And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.
14:35	And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;
14:36	And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.


14:1	εν εκεινω τω καιρω ηκουσεν ηρωδης ο τετραρχης την ακοην ιησου
14:2	και ειπεν τοις παισιν αυτου ουτος εστιν ιωαννης ο βαπτιστης αυτος ηγερθη απο των νεκρων και δια τουτο αι δυναμεις ενεργουσιν εν αυτω
14:3	ο γαρ ηρωδης κρατησας τον ιωαννην εδησεν αυτον και εθετο εν φυλακη δια ηρωδιαδα την γυναικα φιλιππου του αδελφου αυτου
14:4	ελεγεν γαρ αυτω ο ιωαννης ουκ εξεστιν σοι εχειν αυτην
14:5	και θελων αυτον αποκτειναι εφοβηθη τον οχλον οτι ως προφητην αυτον ειχον
14:6	γενεσιων δε αγομενων του ηρωδου ωρχησατο η θυγατηρ της ηρωδιαδος εν τω μεσω και ηρεσεν τω ηρωδη
14:7	οθεν μεθ ορκου ωμολογησεν αυτη δουναι ο εαν αιτησηται
14:8	η δε προβιβασθεισα υπο της μητρος αυτης δος μοι φησιν ωδε επι πινακι την κεφαλην ιωαννου του βαπτιστου
14:9	και ελυπηθη ο βασιλευς δια δε τους ορκους και τους συνανακειμενους εκελευσεν δοθηναι
14:10	και πεμψας απεκεφαλισεν τον ιωαννην εν τη φυλακη
14:11	και ηνεχθη η κεφαλη αυτου επι πινακι και εδοθη τω κορασιω και ηνεγκεν τη μητρι αυτης
14:12	και προσελθοντες οι μαθηται αυτου ηραν το σωμα και εθαψαν αυτο και ελθοντες απηγγειλαν τω ιησου
14:13	και ακουσας ο ιησους ανεχωρησεν εκειθεν εν πλοιω εις ερημον τοπον κατ ιδιαν και ακουσαντες οι οχλοι ηκολουθησαν αυτω πεζη απο των πολεων
14:14	και εξελθων ο ιησους ειδεν πολυν οχλον και εσπλαγχνισθη επ αυτους και εθεραπευσεν τους αρρωστους αυτων
14:15	οψιας δε γενομενης προσηλθον αυτω οι μαθηται αυτου λεγοντες ερημος εστιν ο τοπος και η ωρα ηδη παρηλθεν απολυσον τους οχλους ινα απελθοντες εις τας κωμας αγορασωσιν εαυτοις βρωματα
14:16	ο δε ιησους ειπεν αυτοις ου χρειαν εχουσιν απελθειν δοτε αυτοις υμεις φαγειν
14:17	οι δε λεγουσιν αυτω ουκ εχομεν ωδε ει μη πεντε αρτους και δυο ιχθυας
14:18	ο δε ειπεν φερετε μοι αυτους ωδε
14:19	και κελευσας τους οχλους ανακλιθηναι επι τους χορτους και λαβων τους πεντε αρτους και τους δυο ιχθυας αναβλεψας εις τον ουρανον ευλογησεν και κλασας εδωκεν τοις μαθηταις τους αρτους οι δε μαθηται τοις οχλοις
14:20	και εφαγον παντες και εχορτασθησαν και ηραν το περισσευον των κλασματων δωδεκα κοφινους πληρεις
14:21	οι δε εσθιοντες ησαν ανδρες ωσει πεντακισχιλιοι χωρις γυναικων και παιδιων
14:22	και ευθεως ηναγκασεν ο ιησους τους μαθητας αυτου εμβηναι εις το πλοιον και προαγειν αυτον εις το περαν εως ου απολυση τους οχλους
14:23	και απολυσας τους οχλους ανεβη εις το ορος κατ ιδιαν προσευξασθαι οψιας δε γενομενης μονος ην εκει
14:24	το δε πλοιον ηδη μεσον της θαλασσης ην βασανιζομενον υπο των κυματων ην γαρ εναντιος ο ανεμος
14:25	τεταρτη δε φυλακη της νυκτος απηλθεν προς αυτους ο ιησους περιπατων επι της θαλασσης
14:26	και ιδοντες αυτον οι μαθηται επι την θαλασσαν περιπατουντα εταραχθησαν λεγοντες οτι φαντασμα εστιν και απο του φοβου εκραξαν
14:27	ευθεως δε ελαλησεν αυτοις ο ιησους λεγων θαρσειτε εγω ειμι μη φοβεισθε
14:28	αποκριθεις δε αυτω ο πετρος ειπεν κυριε ει συ ει κελευσον με προς σε ελθειν επι τα υδατα
14:29	ο δε ειπεν ελθε και καταβας απο του πλοιου ο πετρος περιεπατησεν επι τα υδατα ελθειν προς τον ιησουν
14:30	βλεπων δε τον ανεμον ισχυρον εφοβηθη και αρξαμενος καταποντιζεσθαι εκραξεν λεγων κυριε σωσον με
14:31	ευθεως δε ο ιησους εκτεινας την χειρα επελαβετο αυτου και λεγει αυτω ολιγοπιστε εις τι εδιστασας
14:32	και εμβαντων αυτων εις το πλοιον εκοπασεν ο ανεμος
14:33	οι δε εν τω πλοιω ελθοντες προσεκυνησαν αυτω λεγοντες αληθως θεου υιος ει
14:34	και διαπερασαντες ηλθον εις την γην γεννησαρετ
14:35	και επιγνοντες αυτον οι ανδρες του τοπου εκεινου απεστειλαν εις ολην την περιχωρον εκεινην και προσηνεγκαν αυτω παντας τους κακως εχοντας
14:36	και παρεκαλουν αυτον ινα μονον αψωνται του κρασπεδου του ιματιου αυτου και οσοι ηψαντο διεσωθησαν


14:1	At that tyme Herod the tetrarcha hearde of the fame of Iesu
14:2	and sayde vnto his servautes: This is Ihon ye baptist. He is risen agayne from deeth and therfore are soche myracles wrought by him.
14:3	For Herod had taken Ihon and bounde him and put him in preson for Herodias sake his brother Philips wyfe.
14:4	For Ihon sayde vnto him: Yt is not lawfull for the to have her.
14:5	And when he wold have put him to deeth he feared the people because they counted him as a prophet.
14:6	But when Herodes birth daye was come the doughter of Herodias daunsed before them and pleased Herod.
14:7	Wherfore he promised wt an oth that he wolde geve hir whatsoever she wolde axe.
14:8	And she beinge informed of her mother before sayde: geve me here Ihon baptistes heed in a platter.
14:9	And ye kynge sorowed. Neverthelesse for his othes sake and for their sakis which sate also at ye table he comaunded yt to be geven hir:
14:10	and sent and beheeded Ihon in the preson
14:11	and his heed was brought in a platter and geven to the damsell and she brought it to her mother.
14:12	And his disciples came and toke vp his body and buryed it: and went and tolde Iesus.
14:13	When Iesus hearde that he departed thence by shippe in to a desert place out of ye waye. And when the people had hearde therof they folowed him afote out of their cities.
14:14	And Iesus went forth and sawe moche people and his herte did melte vpon them and he healed of them those that were sicke.
14:15	When even was come his disciples came to him sayinge. This is a deserte place and the daye is spent: let the people departe yt they maye go into ye tounes and bye them vytayllis.
14:16	But Iesus sayde vnto them. They have no neade to go awaye. Geve ye the to eate.
14:17	Then sayde they vnto him: we have here but .v. loves and two fysshes.
14:18	And he sayde: bringe the hyther to me.
14:19	And he comaunded ye people to syt downe on ye grasse: and toke ye .v. loves and the .ii. fysshes and loked vp to heven and blessed and brake and gave the loves to his disciples and the disciples gave them to ye people.
14:20	And they dyd all eate and were suffised. And they gadered vp of ye gobbetes that remayned vii. basketes full.
14:21	And they yt ate werein nobre about .v.M. men besyde wemen and chyldren.
14:22	And strayght waye Iesus made his disciples enter into a shippe and to goo over before him whill he sent ye people awaye.
14:23	And assone as he had sent the people awaye he went vp into a moutayne alone to praye. And when nyght was come he was there himsilf alone.
14:24	And the shippe was now in the middes of the see and was toost with waves for it was a cotrary wynde.
14:25	In the fourthe watche of ye night Iesus came vnto them walkynge on the see.
14:26	And when his disciples sawe him walkynge on the see they were troubled sayinge: it is some spirite and cryed out for feare.
14:27	And streyght waye Iesus spake vnto them sayinge: be of god cheare it is I be not afrayed.
14:28	Peter answered him and sayde: master if thou be he bid me come vnto the on the water.
14:29	And he sayde come. And when Peter was come doune out of ye shippe he walked on ye water to go to Iesus.
14:30	But when he sawe a myghty wynde he was afrayed. And as he beganne to synke he cryed sayinge: master save me.
14:31	And immediatly Iesus stretched forth his hode and caught him and sayde to him: O thou of lytell faith wherfore diddest thou dout?
14:32	And assone as they were come in to ye shippe ye wynde ceassed.
14:33	Then they that were in the shippe came and worshipped him sayinge: of a truth thou arte ye sonne of God.
14:34	And when they were come over they went in to ye londe of Genazareth.
14:35	And when ye men of yt place had knowledge of him they sent out in to all yt countre rounde about and brought vnto him all that were sicke
14:36	and besought him that they myght touche the hemme of his vesture only. And as many as touched it were made safe.
