Matthew - Chapter: 14


14:1	At that tyme Herode the Tetrarcha heard of the fame of Iesu,
14:2	& sayde vnto his seruauntes: this is Iohn the Baptist. He is rysen from the deed, & therfore are miracles wrought by him.
14:3	For Herode had taken Iohn, & bound him, & put him in preson because of Herodias, his brother Philips wyfe.
14:4	For Iohn sayd vnto him: it is not lawfull for thou to haue her.
14:5	And when he wolde haue put hym to deeth, he feared the people, because they counted him as a prophet.
14:6	But when Herodes byrth daye was kepte, the daughter of Herodias daunsed before them, & pleased Herode.
14:7	Wherfore he promysed with an othe, that he wolde geue her whatsoeuer she wolde aske.
14:8	And she beynge instructe of her mother before, sayde: geue me here Iohn Baptistes heed in a platter.
14:9	And the kynge was sory. Neuerthelesse, for the othes sake, & them which sate also at the table, he commaunded it to be geuen her:
14:10	& sent tourmentours, & behedded Iohn in the preson
14:11	and his heed was brought in a platter & geuen to that damsell, and she brought it to her mother.
14:12	And his disciples came & toke vp hys body, and buried it: went, and tolde Iesus.
14:13	When Iesus hearde of it, he departed thence in a shyppe vnto a desert place, out of the waye. And when the people had harde therof, they folowed him on fote and left the cyties.
14:14	And Iesus went forth, & sawe moch people, and was moued with mercy toward them, and he healed of them those that were sycke.
14:15	And when the euen drewe on, his disciples came to him, saying: this is a deserte place, & the houre is now past, let the people departe, that they maye go into the townes, and bye them vytaylles.
14:16	But Iesus sayde vnto them. They haue no nede to go awaye. Geue ye them to eate.
14:17	They saye vnto him: we haue here but .v. loues and two fysshes.
14:18	He sayde: brynge them hyther to me.
14:19	And he commaunded the people to syt downe on the grasse, & he toke the .v. loues & the .ij. fysshes, and lyft vp hys eyes toward heauen & blessed. And whan he had broken them, he gaue the loaues to hys disciples, & his discyples gaue them to the people.
14:20	And they dyd all eate, and were suffysed. And they gathered vp (of the fragmentes that remayned.) .xij. basketesfull.
14:21	And they that dyd eate, were aboute .v.M. men, besyde wemen and chyldren.
14:22	And streyght waye Iesus made his disciples to get vp into a shippe, and to goo before him vnto the other syde whill he sent the people awaye.
14:23	And when the people were sent awaye, he went vp into a mountayne to praye alone. And when night was come, he was there him selfe alone.
14:24	But the shippe was now in the myddes of the see, & was toost wyth waues, for it was a contrary wynde.
14:25	And in the fourth watche of the nyght, Iesus went vnto them walkynge on the see.
14:26	And when the disciples sawe hym walkynge on the see, they were troubled, sayinge: it is some sprite, & they cryed out for feare.
14:27	But streyght waye, Iesus spake vnto them, sayinge: be of good cheare, it is I, be not afrayed.
14:28	Peter answered hym, and sayde: Lorde, yf it be thou, byd me come vnto the on the water.
14:29	And he sayde, come. And when Peter was come doune out of the shippe, he walked on the water, to go to Iesus.
14:30	But when he sawe a myghty wynde, he was afrayed. And when he beganne to syncke, he cryed sayinge: lorde saue me.
14:31	And immediatly Iesus stretched forth his hand, & caught him, & sayd vnto him: O thou of lytell fayth, wherfore dyddest thou dout?
14:32	And whan they were come into the shyppe, the wynde ceased.
14:33	Then they that were in the shyppe, came and worshypped hym, sayinge: of a truthe thou art the sonne of God.
14:34	And when they were gone ouer they came into the lande of Genesareth.
14:35	And when the men of the place had knowledge of him, they sent out messaungers into all that countre rounde about the coast & brought vnto him all that were sycke,
14:36	& besought hym, that they myght touche the hemme of his vesture only. And as many as touched it were made safe.


14:1	In that tyme Eroude tetrarke, prynce of the fourthe part, herde the fame of Jhesu;
14:2	and seide to hise children, This is Joon Baptist, he is rysun fro deeth, and therfor vertues worchen in hym.
14:3	For Heroude hadde holde Joon, and bounde hym, and puttide hym `in to prisoun for Herodias, the wijf of his brothir.
14:4	For Joon seide to him, It is not leueful to thee to haue hir.
14:5	And he willynge to sle hym, dredde the puple; for thei hadden hym as a prophete.
14:6	But in the dai of Heroudis birthe, the douytir of Herodias daunside in the myddil, and pleside Heroude.
14:7	Wherfor with an ooth he bihiyte to yyue to hir, what euere thing she hadde axid of hym.
14:8	And she bifor warned of hir modir, seide, Yif thou to me here the heed of Joon Baptist in a disch.
14:9	And the kyng was sorewful, but for the ooth, and for hem that saten to gidere at the mete, he comaundide to be youun.
14:10	And he sente, and bihedide Joon in the prisoun.
14:11	And his heed was brouyt in a dische, and it was youun to the damysel, and she bar it to hir modir.
14:12	And hise disciplis camen, and token his bodi, and birieden it; and thei camen, and tolden to Jhesu.
14:13	And whanne Jhesus hadde herd this thing, he wente fro thennus in a boot, in to desert place bisides. And whanne the puple hadde herd, thei folewiden hym on her feet fro citees.
14:14	And Jhesus yede out, and sai a greet puple, and hadde reuthe on hem, and heelide the sike men of hem.
14:15	But whanne the euentid was com, hise disciplis camen to him, and seiden, The place is desert, and the tyme is now passid; lat the puple go in to townes, to bye hem mete.
14:16	Jhesus seide to hem, Thei han not nede to go; yyue ye hem sumwhat to ete.
14:17	Thei answeriden, We han not heere, but fyue looues and twei fischis.
14:18	And he seide to hem, Brynge ye hem hidur to me.
14:19	And whanne he hadde comaundid the puple to sitte to meete on the heye, he took fyue looues and twei fischis, and he bihelde in to heuene, and blesside, and brak, and yaf to hise disciplis; and the disciplis yauen to the puple.
14:20	And alle eten, and weren fulfillid. And thei tooken the relifs of brokun gobetis, twelue cofynes ful.
14:21	And the noumbre of men that eten was fyue thousynde of men, outakun wymmen and lytle children.
14:22	And anoon Jhesus compellide the disciplis to go vp in to a boot, and go bifor hym ouer the see, while he lefte the puple.
14:23	And whanne the puple was left, he stiede aloone in to an hil for to preie. But whanne the euenyng was come, he was there aloone.
14:24	And the boot in the myddel of the see was schoggid with wawis, for the wynd was contrarie to hem.
14:25	But in the fourthe wakyng of the niyt, he cam to hem walkynge aboue the see.
14:26	And thei, seynge hym walking on the see, weren disturblid, and seiden, That it is a fantum; and for drede thei crieden.
14:27	And anoon Jhesus spac to hem, and seide, Haue ye trust, Y am; nyle ye drede.
14:28	And Petre answeride, and seide, Lord, if thou art, comaunde me to come to thee on the watris.
14:29	And he seide, Come thou. And Petre yede doun fro the boot, and walkide on the watris to come to Jhesu.
14:30	But he siy the wynd strong, and was aferde; and whanne he bigan to drenche, he criede, and seide, Lord, make me saaf.
14:31	And anoon Jhesus helde forth his hoond, and took Petre, and seide to hym, Thou of litil feith, whi hast thou doutid?
14:32	And whanne he hadde stied in to the boot, the wynd ceessid.
14:33	And thei, that weren in the boot, camen, and worschipiden hym, and seiden, Verili, thou art Goddis sone.
14:34	And whanne thei hadden passid ouer the see, thei camen in to the loond of Genesar.
14:35	And whanne men of that place hadden knowe hym, thei senten in to al that cuntre; and thei brouyten to hym alle that hadden siknesse.
14:36	And thei preieden hym, that thei schulden touche the hemme of his clothing; and who euere touchiden weren maad saaf.

14:7	wherfore he promysed her with an ooth, yt he wolde geue her, what soeuer she wolde axe.
14:8	And she (beynge instructe of hir mother afore) sayde: geue me Ihon baptistes heade in a platter.

14:14	And Iesus wete forth, and sawe moch people, and had pytie vpon them, and healed their sicke.
14:15	But at euen his disciples came vnto him, & saide: This is a deserte place, and ye night falleth on: let ye people departe from the, that they maye go in to the townes, and bye them vytayles.
14:16	But Iesus sayde vnto them: They nede not go awaye, geue ye the to eate.
14:17	The saide they vnto him: We haue here but fyue loaues and two fyshes.
14:18	And he sayde: bringe the hither.
14:19	And he comaunded ye people to syt downe vpon the grasse, and toke ye fyue loaues and two fisshes, and loked vp towarde heauen, and gaue thankes, and brake and gaue the loaues vnto the disciples, and the disciples gaue them to the people.
14:20	And they all ate, and were suffised. And they gathered vp of the broken meate that remayned ouer, twolue basskettes full.
14:21	And they yt ate, were aboute a fyue thousande men, besyde wemen and children.
14:22	And straight waye Iesus made his disciples to entre in to a shippe, & to go ouer before hi, tyll he had sent ye people awaye.
14:23	And whan he had sent the people awaye, he wete vp in to a mountayne alone, to make his prayer. And at euen he was there him self alone.
14:24	And ye shippe was allready in ye myddest of the see, & was tost wt wawes, for the winde was cotrary.
14:25	But in ye fourth watch of ye night Iesus came vnto the, walkinge vpon the see.
14:26	And whan his disciples sawe him goinge vpon the see, they were afrayed, sayenge: It is some sprete, and cried out for feare.
14:27	But straight waye Iesus spake vnto them, and sayde: Be of good cheare, it is I, be not afrayed.
14:28	Peter answered him, & saide: LORDE, yf it be thou, byd me come vnto the vpon ye water.
14:29	And he sayde: come on yi waye. And Peter stepte out of the shippe, & wete vpon the water, to come vnto Iesus.
14:30	But whan he sawe a mightie wynde, he was afrayed, & begane to synke, & cried, sayenge: LORDE, helpe me.
14:31	And imediatly Iesus stretched forth his hande, & caught him, & sayde vnto him: O thou of litle faith, wherfore doutest thou?
14:32	And they wente in to the shippe, & the wynde ceased.
14:33	Then they that were in ye shippe, came & fell downe before him, & sayde: Of a trueth thou art ye sonne of God.
14:34	And they shipped ouer, & came in to the lode of Genazereth.
14:35	And wha ye me of yt place had knowlege of hi, they sent out in to all that coutre rounde aboute, & brought vnto him all that were sicke,
14:36	& besought him, that they might but touch the hemme of his vesture onely: & as many as touched it, were made whole.
