| 16:1 | The Pharises also, with the Sadduces, came, and tempting, desired him that hee would shew them a signe from heauen. |
| 16:2 | He answered, and said vnto them, When it is euening, yee say, It will bee faire weather: for the skie is red. |
| 16:3 | And in the morning, It will be foule weather to day: for the skie is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, yee can discerne the face of the skie, but can ye not discerne the signes of the times? |
| 16:4 | A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a signe, and there shall no signe be giuen vnto it, but the signe of the Prophet Ionas. And hee left them, and departed. |
| 16:5 | And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. |
| 16:6 | Then Iesus said vnto them, Take heed and beware of the leauen of the Pharises, and of the Sadduces. |
| 16:7 | And they reasoned among themselues, saying, It is because we haue taken no bread. |
| 16:8 | Which when Iesus perceiued, he said vnto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among your selues, because ye haue brought no bread? |
| 16:9 | Doe ye not yet vnderstand, neither remember the fiue loaues of the fiue thousand, and how many baskets ye tooke vp? |
| 16:10 | Neither the seuen loaues of the foure thousand, and how many baskets ye tooke vp? |
| 16:11 | How is it that ye doe not vnderstand, that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leauen of the Pharises, and of the Sadduces? |
| 16:12 | Then vnderstood they how that he bade them not beware of the leauen of bread: but of the doctrine of the Pharisees, and of the Sadduces. |
| 16:13 | When Iesus came into the coasts of Cesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom doe men say, that I, the sonne of man, am? |
| 16:14 | And they said, Some say that thou art Iohn the Baptist, some Elias, and others Ieremias, or one of ye Prophets. |
| 16:15 | He saith vnto them, But whom say ye that I am? |
| 16:16 | And Simon Peter answered, and said, Thou art Christ the sonne of the liuing God. |
| 16:17 | And Iesus answered, and said vnto him, Blessed art thou Simon Bar Iona: for flesh and blood hath not reueiled it vnto thee, but my Father which is in heauen. |
| 16:18 | And I say also vnto thee, that thou art Peter, and vpon this rocke I will build my Church: and the gates of hell shall not preuaile against it. |
| 16:19 | And I will giue vnto thee the keyes of the kingdome of heauen: and whatsoeuer thou shalt bind on earth, shall be bound in heauen: whatsoeuer thou shalt loose on earth, shall be loosed in heauen. |
| 16:20 | Then charged hee his disciples that they should tel no man that he was Iesus the Christ. |
| 16:21 | From that time foorth began Iesus to shew vnto his disciples, how that he must goe vnto Hierusalem, and suffer many things of the Elders and chiefe Priests & Scribes, and be killed, and be raised againe the third day. |
| 16:22 | Then Peter tooke him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it farre from thee Lord: This shal not be vnto thee. |
| 16:23 | But he turned, and said vnto Peter, Get thee behind mee, Satan, thou art an offence vnto me: for thou sauourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. |
| 16:24 | Then said Iesus vnto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him denie himselfe, and take vp his crosse, and follow me. |
| 16:25 | For whosoeuer will saue his life, shall lose it: and whosoeuer will lose his his life for my sake, shall finde it. |
| 16:26 | For what is a man profited, if hee shal gaine the whole world, and lose his owne soule? Or what shall a man giue in exchange for his soule? |
| 16:27 | For the sonne of man shall come in the glory of his father, with his Angels: and then he shall reward euery man according to his works. |
| 16:28 | Uerely I say vnto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Sonne of man comming in his Kingdome. |
| 16:1 | Then came the Pharises & Saduces vnto him, & tepted him, requyringe him to shewe the a toke from heaue. |
| 16:2 | But he answered, & sayde: At eue ye saye: It wil be fayre wedder. for ye sskye is reed. |
| 16:3 | And in ye mornynge, ye saye: It wil be foule wedder to daye, for the sskye is reed, & gloometh. O ye ypocrytes, ye can discerne the fashion of ye sskye: can ye not the discerne the tokes of these tymes also? |
| 16:4 | This euell and aduouterous generacio seketh a toke, & there shal no toke be geue the, but the toke of ye prophet Ionas. So he left the, and departed. |
| 16:5 | And wha his disciples were come to the other syde of the water, they had forgotten to take bred wt them. |
| 16:6 | Iesus sayde vnto the: Take hede & bewarre of the leue of ye Pharises & of the Saduces. |
| 16:7 | The thought they in the selues, sayege: We haue take no bred wt us. |
| 16:8 | Whe Iesus perceaued yt, he sayde to the: O ye of litle faith, why are ye combred (in yor mindes (because ye haue take no bred wt you? |
| 16:9 | Do ye not yet perceaue? Remembre ye not those fyue loaues, whe there were fyue thousande me, and how many basskettes toke ye vp? |
| 16:10 | Nether ye seue loaues whan there were foure thousande men, & how many baskettes toke ye vp? |
| 16:11 | Why perceaue ye not then, yt I spake not to you of bred, whe I saide: bewarre of ye leue of ye Pharises & of ye Saduces? |
| 16:12 | The vnderstode they, how yt he had not the bewarre of the leue of bred, but of ye doctryne of the Pharises and of the Saduces. |
| 16:13 | Then came Iesus into the coastes of the cite Cesarea Philippi, & axed his disciples & saide: Who do me saie, yt ye sonne of ma is? |

| 16:16 | The answered Symo Peter and saide: Thou art Christ ye sonne of ye lyuinge God. |
| 16:17 | And Iesus answered, & saide vnto hi: Blessed art thou Symo ye sonne of Ionas, for flesh & bloude hath not opened yt vnto the, but my father yt is in heaue. |
| 16:18 | And I saie to ye: Thou art Peter, & vpo this rocke wil I builde my cogregacion: and ye gates of hell shal not preuayle agaynst it. |
| 16:19 | And the keyes of heauen wil I geue vnto the: Whatsoeuer thou shalt bynde vpon earth, shalbe bounde also in heauen: & whatsoeuer thou shalt lowse vpon earth, shalbe lowsed also in heaue. |
| 16:20 | Then charged he his disciples, that they shulde tell no ma that he was Iesus Christ. |
| 16:21 | From that tyme forth beganne Iesus to shew vnto his disciples, how that he must go vnto Ierusale, and suffre many thinges of the elders, and of the hye prestes, and of the scrybes, and be put to death, and ryse againe the thirde daye. |
| 16:22 | But Peter toke him asyde, and beganne to rebuke him, sayenge: LORDE, fauoure thy self, let not this happen vnto the. |
| 16:23 | Neuertheles he turned him aboute, & sayde vnto Peter: Auoyde fro me Satha, thou hindrest me, for thou sauourest not ye thinges that be of God, but of men. |
| 16:24 | Then sayde Iesus vnto his disciples: Yf eny man wil folowe me, let him forsake himself, & take vp his crosse, and folowe me. |
| 16:25 | For who so wil saue his life, shal lose it: but whoso loseth his life for my sake, shal fynde it. |
| 16:26 | What helpeth it a man though he wanne the whole worlde, and yet suffred harme in his soule? Or what can a man geue, to redeme his soule withall? |
| 16:27 | For it wil come to passe, that the sonne of ma shal come in the glory of his father with his angels, and then shal he rewarde euery one acordinge to his dedes. |
| 16:28 | Verely I saye vnto you: there stonde here some, which shal not taist of death, tyll they se ye sonne of ma come in his kingdome. |

| 16:2 | And he answeride, and seide to hem, Whanne the euentid is comun, ye seien, It schal be clere, for heuene is rodi; |
| 16:3 | and the morewtid, To dai tempest, for heuene schyneth heueli. Thanne ye kunne deme the face of heuene, but ye moun not wite the tokenes of tymes. |
| 16:4 | 4 An yuel generacioun and auoutresse sekith a tokene; and a tokene schal not be youun to it, but the tokene of Jonas, the profete. And whanne he hadde left hem, he wente forth. |
| 16:5 | And whanne his disciplis camen ouer the see, thei foryaten to take looues. |
| 16:6 | And he seide to hem, Biholde ye, and be war of the soure dowy of Farisees and Saducees. |
| 16:7 | And thei thouyten among hem, and seiden, For we han not take looues. |
| 16:8 | But Jhesus witynge seide to hem, What thenken ye among you of litel feith, for ye han not looues? |
| 16:9 | Yit `vndurstonden not ye, nether han mynde of fyue looues in to fyue thousynde of men, and hou many cofyns ye token? |
| 16:10 | nether of seuene looues in to foure thousynde of men, and hou many lepis ye token? |
| 16:11 | Whi vndurstonden ye not, for Y seide not to you of breed, Be ye war of the sourdowy of Farisees and of Saducees? |
| 16:12 | Thanne thei vndurstooden, that he seide not to be war of sourdowy of looues, but of the techyng of Farisees and Saducees. |
| 16:13 | And Jhesus cam in to the parties of Cesarie of Filip, and axide hise disciplis, and seide, Whom seien men to be mannus sone? |
| 16:14 | And thei seiden, Summe Joon Baptist; othere Elie; and othere Jeremye, or oon of the prophetis. |
| 16:15 | Jhesus seide to hem, But whom seien ye me to be? |
| 16:16 | Symount Petre answeride, and seide, Thou art Crist, the sone of God lyuynge. |
| 16:17 | Jhesus answeride, and seide to him, Blessid art thou, Symount Bariona; for fleisch and blood schewide not to thee, but my fadir that is in heuenes. |
| 16:18 | And Y seie to thee, that thou art Petre, and on this stoon Y schal bilde my chirche, and the yatis of helle schulen not haue miyt ayens it. |
| 16:19 | And to thee Y shal yyue the keies of the kingdom of heuenes; and what euer thou shalt bynde on erthe, schal be boundun also in heuenes; and what euer thou schalt vnbynde on erthe, schal be vnbounden also in heuenes. |
| 16:20 | Thanne he comaundide to hise disciplis, that thei schulden seie to no man, that he was Crist. |
| 16:21 | Fro that tyme Jhesus bigan to schewe to hise disciplis, that it bihofte hym go to Jerusalem, and suffre many thingis, of the eldere men, and of scribis, and princis of prestis; and be slayn, and the thridde dai to rise ayen. |
| 16:22 | And Petre took hym, and bigan to blame him, and seide, Fer be it fro thee, Lord; this thing schal not be to thee. |
| 16:23 | And he turnede, and seide to Petre, Sathanas, go after me; thou art a sclaundre to me; for thou sauerist not tho thingis that ben of God, but tho thingis that ben of men. |
| 16:24 | Thanne Jhesus seide to his disciplis, If ony man wole come after me, denye he hym silf, and take his cros, and sue me; for he that wole make his lijf saaf, |
| 16:25 | shal leese it; and he that schal leese his lijf for me, schal fynde it. |
| 16:26 | For what profitith it to a man, if he wynne al the world, and suffre peiryng of his soule? or what chaunging schal a man yyue for his soule? |
| 16:27 | For mannes sone schal come in glorie of his fader, with his aungels, and thanne he schal yelde to ech man after his werkis. |
| 16:28 | Treuli Y seie to you, `ther ben summe of hem that stonden here, whiche schulen not taste deth, til thei seen mannus sone comynge in his kyngdom. |
