Matthew - Chapter: 20

>
20:1`For the reign of the heavens is like to a man, a householder, who went forth with the morning to hire workmen for his vineyard,
20:2and having agreed with the workmen for a denary a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
20:3`And having gone forth about the third hour, he saw others standing in the market-place idle,
20:4and to these he said, Go ye -- also ye -- to the vineyard, and whatever may be righteous I will give you;
20:5and they went away. `Again, having gone forth about the sixth and the ninth hour, he did in like manner.
20:6And about the eleventh hour, having gone forth, he found others standing idle, and saith to them, Why here have ye stood all the day idle?
20:7they say to him, Because no one did hire us; he saith to them, Go ye -- ye also -- to the vineyard, and whatever may be righteous ye shall receive.
20:8`And evening having come, the lord of the vineyard saith to his steward, Call the workmen, and pay them the reward, having begun from the last -- unto the first.
20:9And they of about the eleventh hour having come, did receive each a denary.
20:10`And the first having come, did suppose that they shall receive more, and they received, they also, each a denary,
20:11and having received `it', they were murmuring against the householder, saying,
20:12that These, the last, wrought one hour, and thou didst make them equal to us, who were bearing the burden of the day -- and the heat.
20:13`And he answering said to one of them, Comrade, I do no unrighteousness to thee; for a denary didst not thou agree with me?
20:14take that which is thine, and go; and I will to give to this, the last, also as to thee;
20:15is it not lawful to me to do what I will in mine own? is thine eye evil because I am good?
20:16So the last shall be first, and the first last, for many are called, and few chosen.'
20:17And Jesus going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples by themselves in the way, and said to them,
20:18`Lo, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man shall be delivered to the chief priests and scribes,
20:19and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the nations to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify, and the third day he will rise again.'
20:20Then came near to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee, with her sons, bowing and asking something from him,
20:21and he said to her, `What wilt thou?' She saith to him, `Say, that they may sit -- these my two sons -- one on thy right hand, and one on the left, in thy reign.'
20:22And Jesus answering said, `Ye have not known what ye ask for yourselves; are ye able to drink of the cup that I am about to drink? and with the baptism that I am baptized with, to be baptized?' They say to him, `We are able.'
20:23And he saith to them, `Of my cup indeed ye shall drink, and with the baptism that I am baptized with ye shall be baptized; but to sit on my right hand and on my left is not mine to give, but -- to those for whom it hath been prepared by my father.'
20:24And the ten having heard, were much displeased with the two brothers,
20:25and Jesus having called them near, said, `Ye have known that the rulers of the nations do exercise lordship over them, and those great do exercise authority over them,
20:26but not so shall it be among you, but whoever may will among you to become great, let him be your ministrant;
20:27and whoever may will among you to be first, let him be your servant;
20:28even as the Son of Man did not come to be ministered to, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.'
20:29And they going forth from Jericho, there followed him a great multitude,
20:30and lo, two blind men sitting by the way, having heard that Jesus doth pass by, cried, saying, `Deal kindly with us, sir -- Son of David.'
20:31And the multitude charged them that they might be silent, and they cried out the more, saying, `Deal kindly with us sir -- Son of David.'
20:32And having stood, Jesus called them, and said, `What will ye `that' I may do to you?'
20:33they say to him, `Sir, that our eyes may be opened;'
20:34and having been moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

20:1For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.
20:2And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
20:3And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
20:4And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.
20:5Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.
20:6And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
20:7They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.
20:8So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.
20:9And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.
20:10But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.
20:11And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,
20:12Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.
20:13But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
20:14Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
20:15Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?
20:16So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
20:17And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them,
20:18Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,
20:19And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.
20:20Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.
20:21And he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.
20:22But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.
20:23And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.
20:24And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren.
20:25But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them.
20:26But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;
20:27And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
20:28Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
20:29And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.
20:30And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.
20:31And the multitude rebuked them, because they should hold their peace: but they cried the more, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David.
20:32And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?
20:33They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
20:34So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.

20:1For the kingdom of Heaven is like a man, a housemaster, who went out when it was early to hire workers into his vineyard.
20:2And agreeing with the workers for a denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard.
20:3And going out about the third hour, he saw others standing idle in the market.
20:4And he said to them, You also go into the vineyard, and I will give you whatever is just. And they went.
20:5Again, going out about the sixth and ninth hour, he did the same.
20:6And going out about the eleventh hour, he found others standing idle, and said to them, Why do you stand here idle all day?
20:7They said to him, Because no one has hired us. He said to them, You also go into the vineyard, and you will receive whatever is just.
20:8But evening coming, the Lord of the vineyard said to his manager, Call the workers and pay them the wage, beginning from the last to the first.
20:9And the ones coming the eleventh hour each received a denarius.
20:10And coming, the first supposed that they would receive more. And they also each received a denarius.
20:11And receiving it , they murmured against the housemaster,
20:12saying, These last have performed one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.
20:13But answering, he said to one of them, Friend, I am not unjust to you. Did you not agree to a denarius with me?
20:14Take yours and go. But I desire to give to this last as also to you.
20:15Or is it not lawful for me to do what I desire with my things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?
20:16So the last shall be first, and the first last; for many are called, but few chosen.
20:17And going up to Jerusalem, Jesus took the twelve disciples aside in the way, and said to them,
20:18Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man will be betrayed to the chief priests and scribes. And they will condemn Him to death.
20:19And they will deliver Him up to the nations to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.
20:20Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came near to Him, along with her sons, worshipping, and asking something from Him.
20:21And He said to her, What do you desire? She said to Him, Say that these two sons of mine may sit one on Your right, and one on Your left in Your Kingdom.
20:22But answering, Jesus said, You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup which I am about to drink, and to be baptized with the baptism with which I am to be baptized? They said to Him, We are able.
20:23And He said to them, Indeed you shall drink My cup, and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized; but to sit off My right and off My left hand is not Mine to give, but to those for whom it was prepared by My Father.
20:24And hearing, the ten were indignant about the two brothers.
20:25But having called them, Jesus said, You know that the rulers of the nations exercise lordship over them, and the great ones exercise authority over them.
20:26But it will not be so among you. But whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.
20:27And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your servant;
20:28Even as the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
20:29And as they were going out from Jericho, a great crowd followed Him.
20:30And, behold, two blind ones sitting beside the way, hearing that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, saying, Have pity on us, Lord, Son of David!
20:31But the crowd rebuked them, that they be quiet. But they cried out the more, saying, Have pity on us, Lord, Son of David!
20:32And stopping, Jesus called them, and said, What do you desire that I do to you?
20:33They said to Him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.
20:34And moved with pity, Jesus touched their eyes. And instantly their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.
