Matthew - Chapter: 21

>
21:1And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, unto the mount of the Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,
21:2saying to them, `Go on to the village over-against you, and immediately ye shall find an ass bound, and a colt with her -- having loosed, bring ye to me;
21:3and if any one may say anything to you, ye shall say, that the lord hath need of them, and immediately he will send them.'
21:4And all this came to pass, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through the prophet, saying,
21:5`Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Lo, thy king doth come to thee, meek, and mounted on an ass, and a colt, a foal of a beast of burden.'
21:6And the disciples having gone and having done as Jesus commanded them,
21:7brought the ass and the colt, and did put on them their garments, and set `him' upon them;
21:8and the very great multitude spread their own garments in the way, and others were cutting branches from the trees, and were strewing in the way,
21:9and the multitudes who were going before, and who were following, were crying, saying, `Hosanna to the Son of David, blessed is he who is coming in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.'
21:10And he having entered into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, `Who is this?'
21:11And the multitudes said, `This is Jesus the prophet, who `is' from Nazareth of Galilee.'
21:12And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and did cast forth all those selling and buying in the temple, and the tables of the money-changers he overturned, and the seats of those selling the doves,
21:13and he saith to them, `It hath been written, My house a house of prayer shall be called, but ye did make it a den of robbers.'
21:14And there came to him blind and lame men in the temple, and he healed them,
21:15and the chief priests and the scribes having seen the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, `Hosanna to the Son of David,' were much displeased;
21:16and they said to him, `Hearest thou what these say?' And Jesus saith to them, `Yes, did ye never read, that, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings Thou didst prepare praise?'
21:17And having left them, he went forth out of the city to Bethany, and did lodge there,
21:18and in the morning turning back to the city, he hungered,
21:19and having seen a certain fig-tree on the way, he came to it, and found nothing in it except leaves only, and he saith to it, `No more from thee may fruit be -- to the age;' and forthwith the fig-tree withered.
21:20And the disciples having seen, did wonder, saying, `How did the fig-tree forthwith wither?'
21:21And Jesus answering said to them, `Verily I say to you, If ye may have faith, and may not doubt, not only this of the fig-tree shall ye do, but even if to this mount ye may say, Be lifted up and be cast into the sea, it shall come to pass;
21:22and all -- as much as ye may ask in the prayer, believing, ye shall receive.'
21:23And he having come to the temple, there came to him when teaching the chief priests and the elders of the people, saying, `By what authority dost thou do these things? and who gave thee this authority?'
21:24And Jesus answering said to them, `I will ask you -- I also -- one word, which if ye may tell me, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things;
21:25the baptism of John, whence was it? -- from heaven, or from men?' And they were reasoning with themselves, saying, `If we should say, From heaven; he will say to us, Wherefore, then, did ye not believe him?
21:26and if we should say, From men, we fear the multitude, for all hold John as a prophet.'
21:27And answering Jesus they said, `We have not known.' He said to them -- he also -- `Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
21:28`And what think ye? A man had two children, and having come to the first, he said, Child, go, to-day be working in my vineyard.'
21:29And he answering said, `I will not,' but at last, having repented, he went.
21:30`And having come to the second, he said in the same manner, and he answering said, I `go', sir, and went not;
21:31which of the two did the will of the father?' They say to him, `The first.' Jesus saith to them, `Verily I say to you, that the tax-gatherers and the harlots do go before you into the reign of God,
21:32for John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye did not believe him, and the tax-gatherers and the harlots did believe him, and ye, having seen, repented not at last -- to believe him.
21:33`Hear ye another simile: There was a certain man, a householder, who planted a vineyard, and did put a hedge round it, and digged in it a wine-press, and built a tower, and gave it out to husbandmen, and went abroad.
21:34`And when the season of the fruits came nigh, he sent his servants unto the husbandmen, to receive the fruits of it,
21:35and the husbandmen having taken his servants, one they scourged, and one they killed, and one they stoned.
21:36`Again he sent other servants more than the first, and they did to them in the same manner.
21:37`And at last he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son;
21:38and the husbandmen having seen the son, said among themselves, This is the heir, come, we may kill him, and may possess his inheritance;
21:39and having taken him, they cast `him' out of the vineyard, and killed him;
21:40whenever therefore the lord of the vineyard may come, what will he do to these husbandmen?'
21:41They say to him, `Evil men -- he will evilly destroy them, and the vineyard will give out to other husbandmen, who will give back to him the fruits in their seasons.'
21:42Jesus saith to them, `Did ye never read in the Writings, A stone that the builders disallowed, it became head of a corner; from the Lord hath this come to pass, and it is wonderful in our eyes.
21:43`Because of this I say to you, that the reign of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth its fruit;
21:44and he who is falling on this stone shall be broken, and on whomsoever it may fall it will crush him to pieces.'
21:45And the chief priests and the Pharisees having heard his similes, knew that of them he speaketh,
21:46and seeking to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, seeing they were holding him as a prophet.

21:1And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples,
21:2Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.
21:3And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them.
21:4All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,
21:5Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
21:6And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them,
21:7And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon.
21:8And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
21:9And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
21:10And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?
21:11And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.
21:12And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,
21:13And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
21:14And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
21:15And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased,
21:16And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?
21:17And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.
21:18Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.
21:19And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
21:20And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!
21:21Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
21:22And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
21:23And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?
21:24And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.
21:25The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?
21:26But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.
21:27And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
21:28But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.
21:29He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.
21:30And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.
21:31Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
21:32For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
21:33Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:
21:34And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it.
21:35And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.
21:36Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise.
21:37But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.
21:38But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.
21:39And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him.
21:40When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?
21:41They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.
21:42Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
21:43Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
21:44And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
21:45And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.
21:46But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.

21:1And when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, toward the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples,
21:2saying to them, Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find an ass tied, and a colt with her. Loosen them and lead them to Me.
21:3And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, The Lord has need of them. And he will send them at once.
21:4But all this happened that might be fulfilled that spoken by the prophet, saying:
21:5"Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your King comes to you, meek and mounted on an ass, even a colt, the son of an ass." Isa. 62:11; Zech. 9:9
21:6And the disciples, going and doing as Jesus ordered them,
21:7they led the ass and the colt. And they put on them their garments, and set Him on them.
21:8And most of the crowd spread their garments on the road. And others were cutting branches from the trees and were spreading them in the road.
21:9And the crowd, the ones going before and the ones following, were crying out, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David! "Blessed is He coming in the name of the Lord"! Hosanna in the highest! Psa. 118:25, 26
21:10And as He entered into Jerusalem, all the city was shaken, saying, Who is this?
21:11And the crowds said, This is Jesus, the Prophet, the one from Nazareth of Galilee.
21:12And Jesus entered into the temple of God and threw out all those selling and buying in the temple. And He overthrew the tables of the money changers and the seats of those selling the doves.
21:13And He said to them, It has been written, "My house shall be called a house of prayer," but you have "made it a den of robbers." Isa. 56:7; Jer. 7:11
21:14And blind and lame ones came to Him in the temple, and He healed them.
21:15But the chief priests and the scribes, seeing the wonders which He did, and the children crying out in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David, they were incensed.
21:16And they said to Him, Do you hear what these say? And Jesus said to them, Yes. Did you never read, "Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings You have perfected praise?" LXX-Psa. 8:3; MT-Psa. 8:2
21:17And leaving them, He went out of the city to Bethany, and spent the night there.
21:18And returning early to the city, He hungered.
21:19And seeing one fig tree by the road, He went up to it, and found nothing on it except leaves only. And He said to it, Let there be no more fruit from you forever. And the fig tree immediately dried up.
21:20And seeing, the disciples marveled, saying, How quickly the fig tree is dried up!
21:21And answering, Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, If you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do the miracle of the fig tree, but even if you should say to this mountain, Be taken up and thrown into the sea, it will be so.
21:22And all things, whatever you may ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive.
21:23And He, coming into the temple, the chief priests and elders of the people came near to Him as He was teaching, saying, By what authority do you do these things? And who gave this authority to you?
21:24And answering, Jesus said to them, I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things.
21:25The baptism of John, from where was it? From Heaven, or from men? And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we shall say, From Heaven, He will say to us, Why then did you not believe him?
21:26But if we should say, From men, we fear the people. For all hold John to be a prophet.
21:27And answering Jesus, they said, We do not know. And He said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
21:28But what do you think? A man had two children, and coming to the first he said, Child, go today; work in my vineyard.
21:29And answering, he said, I will not. But afterward, feeling sorry, he went.
21:30And coming to the second, he said the same. And answering, he said, I go , sir; but he did not leave.
21:31Which of the two did the will of the father? They said to Him, The first. Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, the tax collectors and the harlots go before you into the kingdom of God.
21:32For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him. But the tax-collectors and the harlots believed him. And seeing, you did not repent afterwards to believe him.
21:33Hear another parable: There was a certain man, a house master, who planted a vineyard and placed a hedge around it; and he dug a winepress in it, and built a tower. And he rented it to vinedressers and left the country. Isa. 5:1, 2
21:34And when the season of the fruits came, he sent his slaves to the vinedressers to receive his fruits.
21:35And the vinedressers, taking his slaves, they beat this one, and they killed one, and they stoned another.
21:36Again he sent other slaves, more than the first. And they did the same to them.
21:37And at last he sent his son to them, saying, They will have respect for my son.
21:38But seeing the son, the vinedressers said among themselves, This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and get hold of his inheritance.
21:39And taking him, they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him .
21:40Therefore, when the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to these vinedressers?
21:41They said to Him, Bad men! He will miserably destroy them, and he will rent out the vineyard to other vinedressers who will give to him the fruits in their seasons.
21:42Jesus said to them, Did you never read in the Scriptures, "A Stone which the builders rejected is the One that has become the head of the corner. This was from the Lord, and it is a wonder in our eyes?" Psa. 118:22, 23
21:43Because of this I say to you, The kingdom of God will be taken from you, and it will be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits of it.
21:44And he who falls on this Stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.
21:45And hearing His parables, the chief priests and the Pharisees knew that He was speaking about them.
21:46And seeking to lay hold of Him, they feared the crowds, because they held Him as a prophet.
