Matthew - Chapter: 22

>
22:1And Iesus answered, and spake vnto them agayne in symylytudes sayinge.
22:2The kyngdome of heauen is like vnto a certayne kynge, whiche maryed hys sonne,
22:3and sent forth hys seruauntes to call them that were byd to the wedding, & they woulde not come.
22:4Agayne he sent forth other seruauntes saynge. Tell them which are bydden: beholde I haue prepared my dyner, myne oxen and my fatlynges are kylled, and all thinges are redy, come vnto the mariage.
22:5But they made lyght of it, and went theyr wayes: one to hys ferme place, an other about hys marchaundyse,
22:6the remnaunt toke hys seruauntes and intreated them vngodly and slewe them.
22:7When the kynge hearde that, he was wrothe and sente forthe hys warryers and destroyed those murtherers and brent vp theyr citie.
22:8Then sayde he to hys seruauntes: the wedding was prepared. But they which were bidden: were not worthye.
22:9Go ye therfore out into the hye waies, & as many as ye finde byd them to the mariage.
22:10The seruauntes went out into the hye wayes, and gaddered together as many as they could fynde. Both good & bad, and the weddynge was furnyshed with gestes.
22:11Then the kynge came in, to viset the gestes, and spyed there a man which had not on a weddynge garment,
22:12and sayd vnto hym, frend howe fortuned it that thou camest in hyther, and hast not on a weddinge garmente? And he was euen speachlesse.
22:13Then sayed the kynge to hys mynisters: take and bynde hym hande and fote, and caste hym into vtter darcknes, there shal be weping and gnashing of teeth.
22:14For manye are called and fewe be chosen.
22:15Then went the pharises and toke counsell how they myght tangle hym in hys wordes.
22:16And they sent vnto hym theyr discyples with Herodes seruauntes sayinge: Mayster, we knowe that thou art true, & teachest the waye of God truely: neither carest for any man, for thou considerest not mennes estate.
22:17Tel vs therfor how thinkest thou. Is it lawful to giue tribute vnto Cesar or not?
22:18Iesus perceyued theyr wickednes, & sayd: Why tempt ye me ye hypocrites?
22:19Let me se the tribute money. And they toke him a peny.
22:20And he sayd vnto them: whose is thys ymage & superscripcion?
22:21They sayed vnto him: Cesars. Then sayed he vnto them: Gyue therfore to Cesar, that which is Cesars: And gyue vnto God, that which is Goddes.
22:22When they hearde that they maruayled, and left hym, and went theyr waye.
22:23The same day the Saduces came to hym (which say that there is no resurreccion) axed him
22:24saying: Mayster, Moyses bad, yf a man dye hauyng no chyldren, that the brother marye hys wyfe, and reyse vp seed vnto hys brother.
22:25There were with vs seuen brethren, and the fyrst maryed and dyseased without yssue and left hys wyfe vnto his brother.
22:26Like wyse the second and the thyrde vnto the seuenth.
22:27Last of all the woman dyed also.
22:28Nowe in the resurreccyon whose wyfe shall she be of these seuen? For all had her.
22:29Iesus answered & sayd vnto them: ye are deceyued and vnderstande not the scriptures, nor yet the power of God.
22:30For in the resurrection they nether marye nor are maryed: but are as the angels in heauen.
22:31As touchyng the resurreccion of the dead: haue ye not reade what is sayd vnto you of God which sayth:
22:32I am Abrahams God, and Isaacks God. & the God of Iacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the liuynge.
22:33And when the people hearde that, they were astonyed at hys doctrine.
22:34When the Pharises had hearde, how that he had put the Saduces to silence, they drewe together,
22:35and one of them whiche was a doctoure of lawe, axed a question temptyng hym and sayinge:
22:36Mayster which is the chief commaundement in the lawe?
22:37Iesus sayd to him: Loue the Lord thy God with all thyne herte, and with all thy soule, and with al thy mynd.
22:38This is the fyrst and the chiefe commaundement.
22:39And there is another lyke vnto thys. Loue thy neyghboure as thy selfe.
22:40In these two commaundementes hange all the lawe & the Prophetes.
22:41Whyle the pharyses were gaddered together. Iesus axed them
22:42saying: what thynke ye of Christ? Whose sonne is he? They sayed vnto him: the sonne of Dauid.
22:43He sayed vnto them: how then doeth Dauid in sprite, call him Lorde, sayenge:
22:44The Lorde sayed to my Lord sit on my righthande: tyl I make thyne enemyes thy fotestole.
22:45If Dauid call hym Lorde, how is he than hys sonne?
22:46And none coulde aunswere hym agayne one worde, neyther durste any from that daye forth axe him any more question.

22:1Then Iesus answered, and spake vnto them againe in parables, saying,
22:2The kingdome of heauen is like vnto a certaine King which maried his sonne,
22:3And sent foorth his seruants, to call them that were bidde to the wedding, but they woulde not come.
22:4Againe hee sent foorth other seruants, saying. Tell them which are bidden, Beholde, I haue prepared my dinner: mine oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all thinges are readie: come vnto the mariage.
22:5But they made light of it, and went their wayes, one to his farme, and another about his marchandise.
22:6And the remnant tooke his seruants, and intreated them sharpely, and slewe them.
22:7But when the King heard it, he was wroth, and sent foorth his warriers, and destroyed those murtherers, and burnt vp their citie.
22:8Then saide hee to his seruants, Truely the wedding is prepared: but they which were bidden, were not worthy.
22:9Go ye therefore out into the high wayes, and as many as ye finde, bid them to the mariage.
22:10So those seruantes went out into the hie wayes, and gathered together all that euer they found, both good and bad: so the wedding was furnished with ghestes.
22:11Then the King came in, to see the ghestes, and sawe there a man which had not on a wedding garment.
22:12And he sayd vnto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither, and hast not on a wedding garment? And he was speachlesse.
22:13Then sayd the King to the seruants, Binde him hand and foote: take him away, and cast him into vtter darkenes: there shalbe weeping and gnashing of teeth.
22:14For many are called, but fewe chosen.
22:15Then went the Pharises and tooke counsell how they might tangle him in talke.
22:16And they sent vnto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we knowe that thou art true, and teachest the way of God truely, neither carest for any man: for thou considerest not the person of men.
22:17Tell vs therefore, how thinkest thou? Is it lawfull to giue tribute vnto Cesar, or not?
22:18But Iesus perceiued their wickednes, and sayd, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?
22:19Shewe me the tribute money. And they brought him a peny.
22:20And he sayde vnto them, Whose is this image and superscription?
22:21They sayd vnto him, Cesars. Then sayd he vnto them, Giue therefore to Cesar, the things which are Cesars, and giue vnto God, those things which are Gods.
22:22And when they heard it, they marueiled, and left him, and went their way.
22:23The same day the Sadduces came to him (which say that there is no resurrection) and asked him,
22:24Saying, Master, Moses sayd, If a man die, hauing no children, his brother shall marie his wife by the right of alliance, and raise vp seede vnto his brother.
22:25Nowe there were with vs seuen brethren, and the first maried a wife, and deceased: and hauing none yssue, left his wife vnto his brother.
22:26Likewise also the second, and the third, vnto the seuenth.
22:27And last of all the woman died also.
22:28Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife shall she be of the seuen? for all had her.
22:29Then Iesus answered, and sayd vnto them, Ye are deceiued, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.
22:30For in the resurrection they neither marie wiues, nor wiues are bestowed in mariage, but are as the Angels of God in heauen.
22:31And concerning the resurrection of the dead, haue ye not read what is spoken vuto you of God, saying,
22:32I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the liuing.
22:33And when the multitude heard it, they were astonied at his doctrine.
22:34But when the Pharises had heard, that he had put the Sadduces to silence, they assembled together.
22:35And one of them, which was an expounder of the Lawe, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
22:36Master, which is ye great commandement in the Lawe?
22:37Iesus sayd to him, Thou shalt loue the Lord thy God with all thine heart, with all thy soule, and with all thy minde.
22:38This is the first and the great commandement.
22:39And the second is like vnto this, Thou shalt loue thy neighbour as thy selfe.
22:40On these two commandements hangeth the whole Lawe, and the Prophets.
22:41While the Pharises were gathered together, Iesus asked them,
22:42Saying, What thinke ye of Christ? whose sonne is he? They sayd vnto him, Dauids.
22:43He sayd vnto them, How then doeth Dauid in spirit call him Lord, saying,
22:44The Lord sayd to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footestoole?
22:45If then Dauid call him Lord, howe is he his sonne?
22:46And none could answere him a worde, neither durst any from that day foorth aske him any moe questions.

22:1And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
22:2The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
22:3And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
22:4Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
22:5But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
22:6And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
22:7But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
22:8Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
22:9Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
22:10So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
22:11And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
22:12And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
22:13Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
22:14For many are called, but few are chosen.
22:15Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.
22:16And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
22:17Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?
22:18But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?
22:19Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.
22:20And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?
22:21They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
22:22When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way.
22:23The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,
22:24Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
22:25Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:
22:26Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
22:27And last of all the woman died also.
22:28Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.
22:29Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
22:30For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
22:31But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
22:32I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
22:33And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.
22:34But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.
22:35Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
22:36Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
22:37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
22:38This is the first and great commandment.
22:39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
22:40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
22:41While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
22:42Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David.
22:43He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,
22:44The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
22:45If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
22:46And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
