>
22:1And Jhesus answeride, and spak eftsoone in parablis to hem,
22:2and seide, The kyngdom of heuenes is maad lijk to a kyng that made weddyngis to his sone.
22:3And he sente hise seruauntis for to clepe men that weren bode to the weddyngis, and thei wolden not come.
22:4Eftsoone he sente othere seruauntis, and seide, Seie ye to the men that ben bode to the feeste, Lo! Y haue maad redi my meete, my bolis and my volatilis ben slayn, and alle thingis ben redy; come ye to the weddyngis.
22:5But thei dispisiden, and wenten forth, oon in to his toun, anothir to his marchaundise.
22:6othere helden his seruauntis, and turmentiden hem, and slowen.
22:7But the kyng, whanne he hadde herd, was wroth; and he sente hise oostis, and he distruyede tho manquelleris, and brente her citee.
22:8Thanne he seide to hise seruauntis, The weddyngis ben redi, but thei that weren clepid to the feeste, weren not worthi.
22:9Therfor go ye to the endis of weies, and whom euere ye fynden, clepe ye to the weddyngis.
22:10And hise seruauntis yeden out in to weies, and gadriden togider alle that thei founden, good and yuele; and the bridale was fulfillid with men sittynge at the mete.
22:11And the kyng entride, to se men sittynge at the mete; and he siye there a man not clothid with bride cloth.
22:12And he seide to hym, Freend, hou entridist thou hidir with out bride clothis? And he was doumbe.
22:13Thanne the kyng bad hise mynystris, Bynde hym bothe hondis and feet, and sende ye him in to vtmer derknessis; there schal be wepyng and grentyng of teeth.
22:14For many ben clepid, but fewe ben chosun.
22:15Thanne Farisees yeden awei, and token a counsel to take Jhesu in word.
22:16And thei senden to hym her disciplis, with Erodians, and seien, Maister, we witen, that thou art sothefast, and thou techist in treuthe the weie of God, and thou chargist not of ony man, for thou biholdist not the persoone of men.
22:17Therfor seie to vs, what it seemeth to thee. Is it leueful that tribute be youun to the emperoure, ether nay?
22:18And whanne Jhesus hadde knowe the wickidnesse of hem, he seide, Ypocritis, what tempten ye me?
22:19Schewe ye to me the prynte of the money. And thei brouyten to hym a peny.
22:20And Jhesus seide to hem, Whos is this ymage, and the writyng aboue?
22:21Thei seien to hym, The emperouris. Thanne he seide to hem, Therfor yelde ye to the emperoure tho thingis that ben the emperouris, and to God tho thingis that ben of God.
22:22And thei herden, and wondriden; and thei leften hym, and wenten awey.
22:23In that dai Saduceis, that seien there is no risyng ayen to lijf, camen to hym, and axiden him,
22:24and seiden, Mayster, Moises seide, if ony man is deed, not hauynge a sone, that his brother wedde his wijf, and reise seed to his brothir.
22:25And seuen britheren weren at vs; and the firste weddide a wijf, and is deed. And he hadde no seed, and lefte his wijf to his brother;
22:26also the secounde, and the thridde, til to the seuenthe.
22:27But the laste of alle, the woman is deed.
22:28Also in the risyng ayen to lijf, whos wijf of the seuene schal sche be? for alle hadden hir.
22:29Jhesus answeride, and seide to hem, Ye erren, `and ye knowen not scripturis, ne the vertu of God.
22:30For in the rysyng ayen to lijf, nether thei schulen wedde, nethir schulen be weddid; but thei ben as the aungels of God in heuene.
22:31And of the risyng ayen of deed men, `han ye not red, that is seid of the Lord, that seith to you,
22:32Y am God of Abraham, and God of Ysaac, and God of Jacob? he is not God of deede men, but of lyuynge men.
22:33And the puple herynge, wondriden in his techynge.
22:34And Fariseis herden that he hadde put silence to Saduceis, and camen togidere.
22:35And oon of hem, a techere of the lawe, axide Jhesu, and temptide him,
22:36Maistir, which is a greet maundement in the lawe?
22:37Jhesus seide to him, Thou schalt loue thi Lord God, of al thin herte, and in al thi soule, and in al thi mynde.
22:38This is the firste and the moste maundement.
22:39And the secounde is lijk to this; Thou schalt loue thi neiyebore as thi silf.
22:40In these twey maundementis hangith al the lawe and the profetis.
22:41And whanne the Farisees weren gederid togidere, Jhesus axide hem,
22:42and seide, What semeth to you of Crist, whos sone is he? Thei seien to hym, Of Dauid.
22:43He seith to hem, Hou thanne Dauid in spirit clepith hym Lord,
22:44and seith, The Lord seide to my Lord, Sitte on my riythalf, til Y putte thin enemyes a stool of thi feet?
22:45Thanne if Dauid clepith hym Lord, hou is he his sone?
22:46And no man miyte answere a word to hym, nethir ony man was hardi fro that day, to axe hym more.

22:1And Iesus answered and spake vnto them agayne in similitudes sayinge.
22:2The kingdome of heve is lyke vnto a certayne kynge which maryed his sonne
22:3and sent forth his servantes to call them that were byd to the weddinge and they wolde not come.
22:4Ageyne he sent forth other servauntes sayinge: Tell them which are bydden: beholde I have prepared my dynner myne oxen and my fatlinges are kylled and all thinges are redy come vnto the mariage.
22:5But they made light of it and went their wayes: one to his ferme place another about his marchaundise
22:6the remnaunt toke his seruantes and intreated them vngodly and slewe them.
22:7When the kinge hearde that he was wroth and send forth his warryers and distroyed those murtherers and brent vp their cyte.
22:8Then sayde he to his servauutes: the weddinge was prepared. But they which were bydden were not worthy.
22:9Go ye therfore out into ye hyewayes and as many as ye finde byd them to the mariage.
22:10The seruauntes wet out into the hiewayes and gaddered to gedder as many as they coulde fynde both good and bad and ye weddinge was furnysshed with gestes.
22:11Then the kynge came in to viset the gestes and spyed there a ma which had not on a weddinge garment
22:12and sayde vnto him: frende how fortuned it that thou camest in hither and hast not on a weddyng garment? And he was eve spechlesse.
22:13Then sayde the kynge to his ministers: take and bynde hym hand and fote and caste hym into vtter darcknes there shalbe wepinge and gnasshinge of teth.
22:14For many are called and feawe be chosen.
22:15Then wet the Pharises and toke counsell how they might tagle him in his wordes.
22:16And they sent vnto him their disciples with Herodes servauntes sayinge: Master we knowe yt thou are true and teachest the waye of god trulie nether carest for eny man for thou consydrest not menes estate.
22:17Tell vs therfore: how thynkest thou? Is it lawfull to geve tribute vnto Cesar or not?
22:18Iesus perceaved their wikednes and sayde: Why tempte ye me ye ypocrites?
22:19Let me se ye tribute money. And they toke hym a peny.
22:20And he sayde vnto them: whose is this ymage and superscripcion?
22:21They sayde vnto him: Cesars. Then sayde he vnto them. Geve therfore to Cesar that which is Cesars: and geve vnto god that which is goddes.
22:22When they hearde that they marveled and lefte hym and went there waye.
22:23The same daye the Saduces came to him (which saye that there is no resurrcecion) and axed him
22:24sayinge: Master Moses bade yf a man dye havinge no chyldre that the brother mary his wyfe and reyse vp seed vnto his brother.
22:25Ther were wt vs seven brethre and the fyrste maried and deceased wt oute yssue and lefte his wyfe vnto his brother.
22:26Lykewise the seconde and ye thryd vnto the sevethe.
22:27Laste of all the woman dyed also.
22:28Now in the resurreccion whose wyfe shall she be of the seven? For all had her.
22:29Iesus answered and sayde vnto the: ye are deceaved and vnderstonde not the scriptures nor yet the power of God.
22:30For in the resurreccion they nether mary nor are maryed: but are as the angels of God in heven.
22:31As touchynge the resurreccion of the deed: have ye not redde what is sayde vnto you of God which sayeth:
22:32I am Abrahams God and Ysaacks God and the God of Iacob? God is not the God of the deed: but of the lyvinge.
22:33And when the people hearde that they were astonyed at his doctrine.
22:34When the Pharises had hearde how yt he had put the Saduces to silence they drewe to gedder
22:35and one of them which was a doctoure of lawe axed a question teptinge h m and sayinge:
22:36Master which is ye chefe comaundment in the lawe?
22:37Iesus sayde vnto him: love the Lorde thy God wt all thine herte with all thy soule and with all thy mynde.
22:38This is the fyrst and the chefe comaundement.
22:39And ther is another lyke vnto this. Love thyne neghbour as thy selfe.
22:40In these two commaundemetes hange all the lawe and the Prophetes.
22:41Whyll the Pharises were gaddered togeder Iesus axed
22:42the sayinge: what thinke ye of Christ? Whose sonne is he? They sayde vnto him: the sonne of David.
22:43He sayde vnto the: how then doeth David in spirite call him Lorde sayinge?
22:44The Lorde sayde to my Lorde syt on my right honde: tyll I make thyne enemyes thy fote stole.
22:45Yf David call him Lorde: how is he then his sonne?
22:46And none coulde answere him ageyne one worde: nether dueste eny from that daye forth axe him eny moo questions.

22:1And Iesus answered, and spake vnto the agayne by parables, & sayde:
22:2The kingdome of heauen is like vnto a kynge, which maried his sonne.
22:3And sent forth his seruauntes, to call the gestes vnto the mariage, & they wolde not come.
22:4Agayne, he sent forth other seruauntes, and sayde: Tell the gestes: Beholde, I haue prepared my dynner, myne oxen and my fed catell are kylled, and all thinges are readye, come to the mariage.
22:5But they made light of it, and wente their wayes: one to his hussbandrye, another to his marchaundise.
22:6As for the remnaut, they toke his seruauntes, and intreated the shamefully, and slew the.
22:7When the kynge herde that, he was wroth, and sent forth his warryers, and destroyed those murtherers, and set fyre vpon their cite.
22:8Then sayde he vnto his seruauntes: The mariage in dede is prepared, but the gestes were not worthy.
22:9Go youre waye out therfore in to ye hye wayes, and as many as ye fynde, byd them to the mariage.
22:10And the seruauntes wete out in to the hye wayes, and gathered together as many as they coulde fynde, both good and bad, & the tables were all full.
22:11Then the kynge wete in, to se the gestes, and spyed there a man that had not on a weddynge garment,
22:12and sayde vnto him: Frende, how camest thou in hither, & hast not on a weddyinge garment? And he was euen spechlesse.
22:13Then sayde the kynge vnto his seruauntes: Take and bynde him hande and fote, & cast him into ye vtter darcknes: there shal be waylinge and gnasshinge of teth.
22:14For many be called, but few are chose.
22:15Then wente the Pharises, and toke councell, how they might tangle him in his wordes,
22:16and sent vnto him their disciples with Herodes officers, and sayde: Master, we knowe that thou art true, and teachest the waye of God truly, and carest for no ma: for thou regardest not the outwarde appearaunce of me.
22:17Tell us therfore, how thinkest thou? Is it laufulll to geue tribute vnto the Emperoure, or not?
22:18Now wha Iesus perceaued their wickednes, he sayde: O ye ypocrites, why tepte ye me?
22:19Shewe me ye tribute money. And they toke hi a peny.
22:20And he saide vnto the: Whose is this ymage and superscription?
22:21They sayde vnto him: The Emperours. Then sayde he vnto them: Geue therfore vnto the Emperour, that which is the Emperours: and geue vnto God, that which is Gods.
22:22When they herde that, they marueyled, and left him, & wete their waye.
22:23The same daye there came vnto him the Saduces (which holde that there is no resurreccion) and axed him,
22:24and sayde: Master, Moses sayde: Yf a man dye, hauynge no children, his brother shal mary his wife, & rayse vp sede vnto his brother.
22:25Now were there with us seue brethren. The first maried a wife, and dyed: & for somoch as he had no sede, he left his wife vnto his brother.
22:26Like wyse the secode, and thirde vnto the seueth.
22:27Last of all the woman dyed also.
22:28Now in the resurreccion, whose wife shal she be of the seuen? For they all had her.
22:29Iesus answered, and sayde vnto them: Ye erre, and vnderstode not the scriptures, ner the power of God.
22:30In the resurreccion they shal nether mary, ner be maried, but are as the angels of God in heauen.
22:31As touchinge the resurreccio of the deed, haue ye notred, what is spoken vnto you of God, which sayeth:
22:32I am the God of Abraham, and ye God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob? Yet is not God a God of the deed, but of the lyuynge.
22:33And whan the people herde that, they were astonnyed at his doctryne.
22:34When the Pharises herde, that he had stopped the mouth of the Saduces, they gathered them selues together.
22:35And one of them (a Scrybe) tepted him, and sayde:
22:36Master, which is the chefest commaundemet in the lawe?
22:37Iesus saide vnto him: Thou shalt loue the LORDE thy God with all thy hert, with all thy soule, and with all thy mynde:
22:38this is the pryncipall and greatest comaundement.
22:39As for the seconde, it is like vnto it: Thou shalt loue thy neghboure as thy self.
22:40In these two commaundementes hange all the lawe and the prophetes.
22:41Now whyle the Pharises were gathered together, Iesus axed them,
22:42and sayde: What thinke ye of Christ? Whose sonne is he? They sayde vnto him: Dauids.
22:43He sayde vnto them: How then doth Dauid in sprete, call him LORDE, sayenge:
22:44The LORDE sayde vnto my LORDE: Syt thou on my right honde, tyll I make thine enemies thy fote stole.
22:45Yf Dauid now call him LORDE, how is he then his sonne?
22:46And no man coude answere him one worde, nether durst eny man axe him eny mo questios, fro that daye forth.
