Matthew - Chapter: 26

>
26:1And it came to passe, when Iesus had finished al these sayings, hee said vnto his disciples,
26:2Ye know that after two dayes is the feast of the Passeouer, and the Sonne of man is betrayed to be crucified.
26:3Then assembled together the chiefe Priests, and the Scribes, and the Elders of the people, vnto the palace of the high Priest, who was called Caiaphas,
26:4And consulted that they might take Iesus by subtiltie, and kill him.
26:5But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there bee an vproare among the people.
26:6Now when Iesus was in Bethanie, in the house of Simon the leper,
26:7There came vnto him a woman, hauing an alabaster boxe of very precious ointment, and powred it on his head, as he sate at meat.
26:8But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
26:9For this ointment might haue bin sold for much, and giuen to the poore.
26:10When Iesus vnderstood it, he said vnto them, Why trouble ye the woman? For she hath wrought a good worke vpon me.
26:11For ye haue the poore alwayes with you, but me ye haue not alwayes.
26:12For in that she hath powred this ointment on my body, shee did it for my buriall.
26:13Uerely I say vnto you, Wheresoeuer this Gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memoriall of her.
26:14Then one of the twelue, called Iudas Iscariot, went vnto the chiefe Priests,
26:15And said vnto them, What will ye giue me, and I will deliuer him vnto you? And they couenanted with him for thirtie pieces of siluer.
26:16And from that time he sought opportunitie to betray him.
26:17Now the first day of the feast of vnleauened bread, the disciples came to Iesus, saying vnto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the Passeouer?
26:18And he said, Goe into the citie to such a man, and say vnto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand, I will keepe the Passeouer at thy house with my disciples.
26:19And the disciples did, as Iesus had appointed them, and they made ready the Passeouer.
26:20Now when the euen was come, he sate downe with the twelue.
26:21And as they did eate, he said, Uerely I say vnto you, that one of you shal betray me.
26:22And they were exceeding sorowfull, and began euery one of them to say vnto him, Lord, Is it I?
26:23And he answered and said, Hee that dippeth his hand with mee in the dish, the same shall betray me.
26:24The sonne of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe vnto that man by whom the sonne of man is betrayed: It had bin good for that man, if hee had not bene borne.
26:25Then Iudas, which betrayed him, answered, and said, Master, Is it I? He said vnto him, Thou hast said.
26:26And as they were eating, Iesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gaue it to the Disciples, and said, Take, eate, this is my body.
26:27And he tooke the cup, and gaue thankes, and gaue it to them, saying, Drinke ye all of it:
26:28For this is my blood of the new Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sinnes.
26:29But I say vnto you, I will not drinke henceforth of this fruite of the vine, vntill that day when I drinke it new with you in my fathers kingdom.
26:30And when they had sung an hymne, they went out into the mount of Oliues.
26:31Then saith Iesus vnto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night, For it is written, I will smite the Shepheard, and the sheepe of the flocke shall be scattered abroad.
26:32But after I am risen againe, I will goe before you into Galilee.
26:33Peter answered, and said vnto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I neuer be offended.
26:34Iesus said vnto him, Uerily I say vnto thee, that this might before the cocke crow, thou shalt denie me thrise.
26:35Peter said vnto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not denie thee. Likewise also said all the Disciples.
26:36Then commeth Iesus with them vnto a place called Gethsemane, and saith vnto the Disciples, Sit yee heere, while I goe and pray yonder.
26:37And hee tooke with him Peter, and the two sonnes of Zebedee, and beganne to be sorrowful, and very heauie.
26:38Then saith he vnto them, My soule is exceeding sorrowfull, euen vnto death: tary ye heere, & watch with me.
26:39And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my father, if it be possible, let this cup passe from me: neuerthelesse, not as I will, but as thou wilt.
26:40And he commeth vnto the Disciples, and findeth them asleepe, and saith vnto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one houre?
26:41Watch and pray, that yee enter not into temptation: The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weake.
26:42He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my father, if this cup may not passe away from me, except I drinke it, thy will be done.
26:43And he came and found them asleep againe: For their eies were heauie.
26:44And he left them, and went away againe, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
26:45Then commeth he to his Disciples, and saith vnto them, Sleepe on now, and take your rest, behold, the houre is at hand, and the sonne of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
26:46Rise, let vs be going: behold, he is at hand that doeth betray me.
26:47And while yet spake, loe, Iudas one of the twelue came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staues from the chiefe Priests and Elders of the people.
26:48Now he that betrayed him, gaue them a signe, saying, Whomsoeuer I shall kisse, that same is he, hold him fast.
26:49And forthwith hee came to Iesus, and said, Haile master, and kissed him.
26:50And Iesus said vnto him, Friend, Wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid handes on Iesus, and tooke him.
26:51And behold, one of them which were with Iesus, stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and stroke a seruant of the high Priests, and smote off his eare.
26:52Then said Iesus vnto him, Put vp againe thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword, shall perish with the sword.
26:53Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my father, and he shall presently giue me more then twelue legions of Angels?
26:54But how then shall the Scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
26:55In that same houre said Iesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thiefe with swords and staues for to take mee? I sate daily with you teaching in the Temple, and ye laide no hold on me.
26:56But all this was done, that the Scriptures of the Prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the Disciples forsooke him, and fled:
26:57And they that had laid hold on Iesus, led him away to Caiaphas the high Priest, where the Scribes and the Elders were assembled.
26:58But Peter followed him afarre off, vnto the high Priests palace, and went in, and sate with the seruants to see the end.
26:59Now the chiefe Priests and Elders, and all the councell, sought false witnesse against Iesus to put him to death,
26:60But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,
26:61And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the Temple of God, and to build it in three dayes.
26:62And the high Priest arose, and said vnto him, Answerest thou nothing? What is it, which these witnesse against thee?
26:63But Iesus held his peace. And the high Priest answered, and said vnto him, I adiure thee by the liuing God, that thou tell vs, whether thou bee the Christ the Sonne of God.
26:64Iesus saith vnto him, Thou hast saide: Neuerthelesse I say vnto you, Hereafter shall yee see the Sonne of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heauen.
26:65Then the high Priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemie: what further need haue wee of witnesses? Behold, now ye haue heard his blasphemie.
26:66What thinke ye? They answered and said, He is guiltie of death.
26:67Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him, and others smote him with the palmes of their hands,
26:68Saying, Prophecie vnto vs, thou Christ, who is he that smote thee?
26:69Now Peter sate without in the palace: and a damosell came vnto him, saying, Thou also wast with Iesus of Galilee.
26:70But hee denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou saiest.
26:71And when he was gone out into the porch, another maide saw him, and saide vnto them that were there, This fellow was also with Iesus of Nazareth.
26:72And againe hee denied with an oath, I doe not know the man.
26:73And after a while came vnto him they that stood by, and saide to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them, for thy speech bewrayeth thee.
26:74Then beganne hee to curse and to sweare, saying, I know not the man. And immediatly the cocke crew.
26:75And Peter remembred the words of Iesus, which said vnto him, Before the cocke crow, thou shalt denie mee thrice. And hee went out, and wept bitterly.

26:1And it came to passe wha Iesus had fynished all these wordes, he sayde vnto his disciples:
26:2Ye knowe, that after two dayes shalbe Easter, and the sonne of man shalbe delyuered to be crucified.
26:3Then assembled together the hye prestes and the scrybes, and the elders of the people in to the palace of the hye prest which was called Caiphas,
26:4and helde a councell, how they might take Iesus by disceate, and kyll him.
26:5But they sayde: Not on the holy daye, lest there be an vproure in the people.
26:6Now when Iesus was at Bethany in the house of Symon the leper,
26:7there came vnto hi a woman, which had a boxe with precious oyntment, and poured it vpon his heade, as he sat at the table.
26:8Whan his disciples sawe that, they dissdayned, and sayde: Where to serueth this waist?
26:9This oyntmet might haue bene wel solde, and geue to the poore.
26:10Whe Iesus perceaued that, he sayde vnto them: Why trouble ye the woman? She hath wrought a good worke vpon me
26:11for ye haue allwaye the poore with you, but me shal ye not haue allwayes.
26:12Where as she hath poured this oyntmet vpon my body, she dyd it to bury me.
26:13Verely I saye vnto you: where so euer this gospell shalbe preached thorow out all the worlde, there shal this also that she hath done, be tolde for a memoriall of her.
26:14Then one of the twolue (called Iudas Iscarioth) wente vnto the hye prestes,
26:15and sayde: What wil ye geue me, and I shal delyuer him vnto you? And they offred hi thirtie syluer pens.
26:16And from that tyme forth, he sought oportunyte to betraye him?
26:17The first daye of swete bred came the disciples to Iesus, and sayde vnto him: Where wilt thou that we prepare for the, to eate the Easter lambe?
26:18He sayde: Go in to the cite to soch a man, and saye vnto him: The Master sendeth the worde: My tyme is at honde, I wil kepe myne Easter by the with my disciples.
26:19And the disciples dyd as Iesus had appoynted them, and made ready the Easter lambe.
26:20And at euen he sat downe at the table with the twolue.
26:21And as they ate, he sayde: Verely I saye vnto you: One of you shal betraye me.
26:22And they were exceadinge soroufull, and beganne euery one of them to saye vnto him: Syr, is it I?
26:23He answered and sayde: He that deppeth his honde with me in the dysshe, the same shal betraye me.
26:24The sonne of man goeth forth, as it is wrytten of him: but wo vnto that man by who the sonne of man shalbe betrayed: It had bene better for that ma, yf he had neuer bene borne.
26:25The Iudas that betrayed him, answered and sayde: Master, is it I? He sayde vnto: him Thou hast sayde.
26:26And as they ate, Iesus toke the bred, gaue thankes, brake it, and gaue it to the disciples, and sayde: Take, eate, this is my body.
26:27And he toke the cuppe, and thanked, and gaue it the, and sayde: Drynke ye all therof,
26:28this is my bloude of the new testament, that shalbe shed for many for the remission of synnes.
26:29I saye vnto you: I wil not drynke hence forth of this frute of the vyne tre, vntill that daye that I shal drynke it new with you in my fathers kyngdome.
26:30And whan they had sayde grace, they wente forth vnto mount Oliuete.
26:31Then sayde Iesus vnto them. This night shal ye all be offended in me. For it is wrytten: I wil smyte the shepherde, and the shepe of the flocke shalbe scatered abrode.
26:32But after that I ryse agayne, I wil go before you in to Galile.
26:33Peter answered and sayde vnto him: Though all men shulde be offended in ye, yet wyl I neuer be offeded.
26:34Iesus sayde vnto hi: Verely I saye vnto ye: This same night before ye cock crowe, shalt thou denie me thryse.
26:35Peter saide vnto him: And though I shulde dye with the, yet wil I not denye the. Likewyse also sayde all the disciples.
26:36Then came Iesus with them into a felde which is called Gethsemane, and sayde vnto the disciples: Syt ye here, whyle I go yonder & praye.
26:37And he toke with him Peter, and the two sonnes of Zebede, and beganne to wexe soroufull and to be in an agonye.
26:38Then sayde Iesus vnto them: My soule is heuy euen vnto the death. Tary ye here, and watch with me.
26:39And he wente forth a litle, and fell flat vpon his face, and prayed sayenge: O my father, yf it be possible, let this cuppe passe fro me: neuertheles not as I wil but as thou wilt.
26:40And he came to his disciples, and founde the a slepe, & sayde vnto Peter: What? coude ye not watch with me one houre?
26:41Watch & praye, that ye fall not in to temptacion. The sprete is wyllinge, but the flesh is weake.
26:42Agayne, he wete forth the seconde tyme and prayed, sayenge: O my father, yf this cuppe can not passe awaye fro me (excepte I drynke of it) thy will be fulfilled.
26:43And he came, and founde them a slepe agayne, and their eyes were heuy.
26:44And he left them, and wente forth agayne, and prayed the thirde tyme, sayenge the same wordes.
26:45Then came he to his disciples, and sayde vnto them: Slepe on now, and take youre rest. Beholde, the houre is come, yt the sonne of man shalbe delyuered in to the hondes of synners:
26:46Aryse, let us be goynge. Beholde, he is at hode, that betrayeth me.
26:47Whyle he yet spake, lo, Iudas one of the twolue came, and with him a greate multitude with swerdes and staues, sent fro the hye prestes and elders of the people.
26:48And he that betrayed him, had geuen them a toke, sayenge: Whom so euer I kysse, that same is he, laye hodes vpo him.
26:49And forth withal he came to Iesus, and sayde: Hayle master, and kyssed him.
26:50And Iesus sayde vnto him: Frende, wherfore art thou come? Then came they, and layed hondes vpon Iesus, and toke him.
26:51And beholde, one of them that were with Iesus, stretched out his honde, and drue his swerde, and stroke a seruaunt of the hye prestes, & smote of his eare:
26:52Then sayde Iesus vnto him: Put vp yi swerde in to his place. For all that take the swerde, shal perish with the swerde.
26:53Or thinkest thou that I can not praye my father now, to sende me more then twolue legions of angels?
26:54But how the shulde the scriptures be fulfylled? For thus must it be.
26:55In the same houre sayde Iesus vnto the multitude: Ye are come out as it were to a murthurer with swerdes and staues for to take me. I sat daylie teachinge in the temple amonge you, and ye toke me not.
26:56But all this is done, that the scriptures of the prophetes might be fulfylled.
26:57The all the disciples left him, and fled. But they that toke Iesus, led him to Caiphas the hye prest, where the scrybes and the elders were gathered together.
26:58As for Peter, he folowed him a farre of vnto the hye prestes palace, & wente in, and sat with the seruauntes, that he might se the ende.
26:59But the hye prestes and the elders, and the whole councell sought false wytnesse ageynst Iesus, that they might put him to death,
26:60and founde none. And though many false wytnesses stepte forth, yet founde they none. At the last there stepte forth two false wytnesses,
26:61& spake: He sayde: I can breake downe the temple of God, and buylde it agayne in thre dayes.
26:62And the hye prest stode vp, and sayde vnto him: Answerest thou nothinge, vnto it, that these testifie agaynst the?
26:63Neuertheles Iesus helde his tonge. And the hye prest answered, and sayde vnto him: I charge the by ye lyuynge God, that thou tell us, yf thou be Christ the sonne of God.
26:64Iesus spake: Thou hast sayde it. Neuerthelesse I saye vnto you: From this tyme forth it shal come to passe, that ye shal se the sonne of man syttinge vpon the right hande of the power (of God) and commynge in the cloudes of the heauen.
26:65Then the hye prest rente his clothes, and sayde: He hath blasphemed, what nede we eny mo wytnesses? Lo, now haue ye herde his blasphemy:
26:66What thinke ye? They answered, & sayde: He is gyltie of death.
26:67Then spytted they in his face, & smote him with fistes. Some smote him
26:68vpon the face, and sayde: Prophecie vnto us thou Christ, who is it, that smote the?
26:69As for Peter, he sat without in the palace. And there came vnto him a damsell, and sayde: And thou wast with Iesus of Galile also.
26:70Neuertheles he denyed before the all, and sayde: I can not tell what thou sayest.
26:71But whan he wete out at the dore, another damsell sawe him. and sayde vnto them that were there: This was also with Iesus of Nazareth.
26:72And he denyed agayne, and sware also: I knowe not the ma.
26:73And after a litle whyle, they that stode there, stepte forth, and sayde vnto Peter: Of a trueth thou art one of them also, for thy speach bewrayeth the.
26:74Then begane he to curse and to sweare: I knowe not the man. And immediatly the cock crew.
26:75Then thought Peter vpon the wordes of Iesus, which sayde vnto him: before the cock crow, thou shalt denye me thryse. And he wente out, and wepte bytterly.

26:1And it was doon, whanne Jhesus hadde endid alle these wordis, he seide to hise disciplis,
26:2Ye witen, that aftir twei daies pask schal be maad, and mannus sone schal be bitakun to be crucified.
26:3Than the princes of prestis and the elder men of the puple were gaderid in to the halle of the prince of prestis, that was seid Cayfas,
26:4and maden a counsel to holde Jhesu with gile, and sle him;
26:5but thei seiden, Not in the haliday, lest perauenture noyse were maad in the puple.
26:6And whanne Jhesus was in Betanye, in the hous of Symount leprous,
26:7a womman that hadde a box of alabastre of precious oynement, cam to hym, and schedde out on the heed of hym restynge.
26:8And disciplis seynge hadden dedeyn, and seiden, Wherto this loss? for it myyte be seld for myche,
26:9and be youun to pore men.
26:10But Jhesus knewe, and seide to hem, What ben ye heuy to this womman? for sche hath wrouyt in me a good werk.
26:11For ye schulen euere haue pore men with you, but ye schulen not algatis haue me.
26:12This womman sendynge this oynement in to my bodi, dide to birie me.
26:13Treuli Y seie to you, where euer this gospel schal be prechid in al the world, it schal be seid, that sche dide this, in mynde of hym.
26:14Thanne oon of the twelue, that was clepid Judas Scarioth, wente forth to the princis of prestis,
26:15and seide to hem, What wolen ye yyue to me, and Y schal bitake hym to you? And thei ordeyneden to hym thretti pans of siluer.
26:16And fro that tyme he souyte oportunyte, to bitraye hym.
26:17And in the firste dai of therf looues the disciplis camen to Jhesu, and seiden, Where wolt thou we make redi to thee, to ete paske?
26:18Jhesus seide, Go ye into the citee to `sum man, and seie to hym, The maistir seith, My tyme is nyy; at thee Y make paske with my disciplis.
26:19And the disciplis diden, as Jhesus comaundide to hem; and thei maden the paske redi.
26:20And whanne euentid was come, he sat to mete with hise twelue disciplis.
26:21And he seide to hem, as thei eten, Treuli Y seie to you, that oon of you schal bitraye me.
26:22And thei ful sori bigunnen ech bi hym silf to seie, Lord, whether `Y am?
26:23And he answeride, and seide, He that puttith with me his hoond in the plater, schal bitraye me.
26:24Forsothe mannus sone goith, as it is writun of hym; but wo to that man, bi whom mannus sone schal be bitrayed; it were good to hym, if that man hadde not be borun.
26:25But Judas that bitraiede hym, answeride, seiynge, Maister, whether `Y am? Jhesus seide to hym, Thou hast seid.
26:26And while thei soupeden, Jhesus took breed, and blesside, and brak, and yaf to hise disciplis, and seide, Take ye, and ete; this is my body.
26:27And he took the cuppe, and dide thankyngis, and yaf to hem,
26:28and seide, Drynke ye alle herof; this is my blood of the newe testament, which schal be sched for many, in to remissioun of synnes.
26:29And Y seie to you, Y schal not drynke fro this tyme, of this fruyt of the vyne, in to that dai whanne Y schal drynke it newe with you, in the kyngdom of my fadir.
26:30And whanne the ympne was seid, thei wenten out in to the mount of Olyuete.
26:31Thanne Jhesus seide to hem, Alle ye schulen suffre sclaundre in me, in this niyt; for it is writun, Y schal smyte the scheeperde, and the scheep of the flok schulen be scaterid.
26:32But aftir that Y schal rise ayen, Y schal go bifore you in to Galilee.
26:33Petre answeride, and seide to hym, Thouy alle schulen be sclaundrid in thee, Y schal neuer be sclaundrid.
26:34Jhesus seide to him, Treuli Y seie to thee, for in this nyyt bifor the cok crowe, thries thou schalt denye me.
26:35Peter seide to him, Yhe, thouy it bihoue that Y die with thee, Y schal not denye thee. Also alle the disciplis seiden.
26:36Thanne Jhesus cam with hem in to a toun, that is seid Jessamanye. And he seide to his disciplis, Sitte ye here, the while Y go thider, and preye.
26:37And whanne he hadde take Peter, and twei sones of Zebedee, he bigan to be heuy and sori.
26:38Thanne he seide to hem, My soule is soreuful to the deeth; abide ye here, and wake ye with me.
26:39And he yede forth a litil, and felde doun on his face, preiynge, and seiynge, My fader, if it is possible, passe this cuppe fro me; netheles not as Y wole, but as thou wolt.
26:40And he cam to his disciplis, and foond hem slepynge. And he seide to Petir, So, whethir ye myyten not oon our wake with me?
26:41Wake ye, and preye ye, that ye entre not in to temptacioun; for the spirit is redi, but the fleisch is sijk.
26:42Eft the secounde tyme he wente, and preyede, seiynge, My fadir, if this cuppe may not passe, but Y drynke hym, thi wille be doon.
26:43And eftsoone he cam, and foond hem slepynge; for her iyen weren heuyed.
26:44And he lefte hem, and wente eftsoone, and preiede the thridde tyme, and seide the same word.
26:45Thanne he cam to his disciplis, and seide to hem, Slepe ye now, and reste ye; loo! the our hath neiyed, and mannus sone schal be takun in to the hondis of synneris;
26:46rise ye, go we; loo! he that schal take me, is nyy.
26:47Yit the while he spak, lo! Judas, oon of the twelue, cam, and with hym a greet cumpeny, with swerdis and battis, sent fro the princis of prestis, and fro the eldre men of the puple.
26:48And he that bitraiede hym, yaf to hem a tokene, and seide, Whom euer Y schal kisse, he it is; holde ye hym.
26:49And anoon he cam to Jhesu, and seid, Haile, maister;
26:50and he kisside hym. And Jhesus seide to hym, Freend, wherto art thou comun? Thanne thei camen niy, and leiden hoondis on Jhesu, and helden hym.
26:51And lo! oon of hem that weren with Jhesu, streiyte out his hoond, and drouy out his swerd; and he smoot the seruaunt of the prince of prestis, and kitte of his ere.
26:52Thanne Jhesus seide to hym, Turne thi swerd in to his place; for alle that taken swerd, schulen perische bi swerd.
26:53Whether gessist thou, that Y may not preie my fadir, and he schal yyue to me now mo than twelue legiouns of aungels?
26:54Hou thanne schulen the scriptures be fulfilled? for so it bihoueth to be doon.
26:55In that our Jhesus seide to the puple, As to a theef ye han gon out, with swerdis and battis, to take me; dai bi dai Y sat among you, and tauyt in the temple, and ye helden me not.
26:56But al this thing was don, that the scripturis of profetis schulden be fulfillid. Thanne alle the disciplis fledden, and leften hym.
