>
27:1When the morning was come, al the chief priestes & the elders of the people held a counsell agaynste Iesus, to put hym to death,
27:2& broughte hym bounde and delyuered hym vnto Poncius Pilate the debitie.
27:3Then when Iudas whiche betrayed him, saw that he was condemned, he repented him selfe, and brought agayne the .xxx. plates of syluer to the chiefe priestes and elders
27:4saying: I haue synned betrayinge the innocent bloud. And they sayde: what is that to vs? Se thou to that.
27:5And he caste doune the syluer plates in the temple, and departed, and wente, and honge hym selfe.
27:6And the chief priestes toke the syluer plates, & sayed: it is not lawfull for to putte them into the treasury, because it is the pryce of bloude.
27:7And they toke counsell, and bought wyth them a potters fylde to bury straungers in.
27:8Wherfore that fylde is called the fylde of bloude vntyll thys day.
27:9Then was fulfylled that which was spoken by Ieremy the Prophete saying: and they toke thyrty syluer plates the pryce of hym that was valewed, whom they bought of the chyldren of Israell.
27:10and they gaue them for the potters fylde: as the Lorde appoynted me.
27:11Iesus stode before the debitie: and the debytie axed hym saying: Art thou the Kynge of the Iewes? Iesus sayed vnto hym: Thou sayest,
27:12and when he was accused of the chief priestes & elders he answered nothynge.
27:13Then sayed Pylate vnto him: hearest thou not how many thynges they laye agaynst the?
27:14And he answered hym to neuer a word: in so muche that the debitie marueyled greatly.
27:15At that feast, the debitye was wont to delyuer to the people a prysoner, whom they would desyre.
27:16He had then a notable prysonner called Barrabas.
27:17And when they were gathered together. Pylate sayde to them whether wyl ye that I let lose vnto you Barrabas or Iesu, whiche is called Christe?
27:18For he knewe well that for enuye they had delyuered hym.
27:19When he was set doune to geue iudgement hys wyfe sent to hym saying: haue thou nothing to do with that iust man. For I haue suffered manye thynges thys daye in a dreame about hym.
27:20But the chief priestes and the elders had perswaded the people, that they shulde axe Barrabas and destroye Iesus.
27:21Then the debitye answered and sayd vnto them: whether of the twayne wyll ye that I let lose vnto you? And they sayed: Barrabas
27:22Pylate sayed vnto them: what shall I do then with Iesus whiche is called Christ? They all sayed vnto hym: let hym be crucifyed.
27:23Then sayed the debitie: what euyll hath he done? And they cried the more sayinge: let hym be crucifyed.
27:24When Pilate sawe that he preuayled nothyng but the more busynes was made, he toke water and washed his handes before the people sayinge I am innocent of the bloude of this iust persone, or on your perille be it.
27:25Then aunswered al the people & sayed, his bloude be on vs and on oure children.
27:26Then let he Barrabas louse vnto them, and schourged Iesus, and deliuered hym to be crucyfyed.
27:27Then the souldiers of the debytye toke Iesus to the common hall, and gathered to hym all the companye.
27:28And they strypped him, and put on him a purpyll roobe,
27:29and platted a croune of thornes & put vpon his head, and a reed in his ryght hande, & bowed their knees before him and mocked hym, sayinge: hayle kinge of the Iewes,
27:30and spitted vpon hym & toke the reed and smote him on the head.
27:31And when they had mocked hym: they toke the robe of hym agayn, and put his owne rayment on hym, and lead him awaye to crucyfye hym.
27:32And as they came out, they found a man of Cyren named Symon: him they compelled to beare his crosse.
27:33And when they came vnto the place, called Golgotha (that is to saye: a place of dead mens sculles)
27:34they gaue hym veneger to drynke mengled with gall. And when he had tasted therof: he woulde not drinke.
27:35When they had crucifyed hym: they parted his garmentes, and did cast lottes, to fulfyll that was spoken by the prophete. They deuided my garmentes amonge them, and vpon my vesture dyd cast lottes.
27:36And they sate and watched him there.
27:37And they set vp ouer his head the cause of his death written. This is Iesus the kinge of the Iewes.
27:38And ther were two theues crucifyed with him one on the right hande, and another on the lyfte.
27:39They that passed by, reuyled hym wagginge their heades
27:40& sayinge: Thou that destroyest the temple of God and buyldest it in thre dayes: saue thy selfe. If thou be the sonne of God: come doune from the crosse.
27:41Lykewise also the hye priestes mockynge hym with the scrybes and elders sayde.
27:42He saued other, him selfe he can not saue. If he be the kinge of Israel let him now come doune from the crosse, and we wyll beleue him.
27:43He trusted in God, let hym deliuer hym now, if he wyl haue him: for he sayde I am the sonne of God.
27:44That same also the theues which were crucified with him cast in his teth.
27:45From the syxte houre was there darcknes ouer all the lande vnto the ninthe houre.
27:46And aboute the ninthe houre Iesus cryed with a loude voice sayinge: Eli Eli lama sabathani. That is to saye, my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
27:47Some of them that stode ther, when they hearde that, saied. This man called for Helias.
27:48And straight waye one of them ranne & toke a sponge and fylled it full of veneger, and put it on a rede, and gaue him to drinke.
27:49Other sayed, let be: let vs se whither Helias wyll come and delyuer hym.
27:50Iesus cryed agayne with a loude voyce and yeldeth vp the ghost.
27:51And beholde the vayle of the tempell dyd rent in twayne from the toppe to the bottome and the earth dyd quake, and the rockes did rent,
27:52and graues did open, and the bodies of manye saynctes which slept arose
27:53& came out of the graues after his resurreccion: and came into the holy citie and appered vnto manye.
27:54When the Centurion and they that were with hym watchinge Iesus, sawe the earth quake and those thinges whiche happened they feared greatly sayinge: Of a surtye this was the sonne of God.
27:55And many women were there, beholding him a farre of, which folowed Iesus from Galile, ministring vnto him.
27:56Among which was Marye Magdalena and Marye the mother of Iames & Ioses, and the mother of Zebedes children.
27:57When the euen was come, there came a riche man of Aramathia named Ioseph, which same also was Iesus disciple.
27:58He wente to Pilate and begged the bodye of Iesus, Then Pilate commaunded the body to be deliuered.
27:59And Ioseph toke the body, & wrapped it in a cleane linnen cloth,
27:60& put it in his newe tombe: which he had hewen out, euen in the rocke and rolled a great stone to the dore of the sepulchre and departed.
27:61And ther was Marye Magdalene and the other Mary syttynge ouer agaynste the sepulchre.
27:62The nexte daye that foloweth good fryday the hye pryestes and phariseis gothe them selues to Pilate
27:63and sayd: Syr, we remembre that this deceyuer sayed whyle he was yet alyue. After thre daies I will aryse agayne.
27:64Commaunde therfore that the sepulchre be made sure vntyll the thirde daye lest peraduenture his disciples come, and steale him away, and saye vnto the people, he is rysen from death, & the last errourre be worste then the fyrste.
27:65Pylate sayde vnto them: Take watche men: Go, and make it as sure as ye can.
27:66And they went and made the sepulchre sure with watche men, and sealed the stone.

27:1When the mornynge was come, all the chefe prestes and the elders of the people helde a counsayle agaynst Iesus, to put him to deeth,
27:2and brought him bounde and delyuered him vnto Poncius Pylate the debite.
27:3Then Iudas (which had betrayed him) seyng that he was condempned, repented him selfe, and brought agayne the thirtye plates of syluer, to the chefe Prestes and elders,
27:4sayinge: I haue synned, betrayinge the innocent bloud. And they sayd: what is that to vs? Se thou to that.
27:5And he cast downe the syluer plates in the temple, and departed and went and hanged hym selfe.
27:6And the chefe prestes toke the syluer plates and sayd: it is not lawfull for to put them into the treasure, because it is the pryce of bloud.
27:7And they toke counsell: and bought wt them a potters felde to bury straungers in.
27:8Wherfore that felde is called the felde of bloud, vntyll this daye.
27:9Then was fulfylled, that which was spoken by Ieremy the Prophet, sayinge: and they toke thirtye syluer plates, the pryse of him that was valued, whom they bought of the chyldren of Israel,
27:10and gaue them for the potters felde, as the Lorde apoynted me.
27:11Iesus stode before the debite, and the debite asked him, sayinge: art thou the kyng of the Iewes? Iesus sayeth vnto him: Thou sayest.
27:12And when he was accused of the chefe prestes & elders, he answered nothyng.
27:13Then sayeth Pilate vnto him: hearest thou not, how many witnesses they laye agaynst the?
27:14and he answered him to neuer a worde: in so moch that the debyte marueyled greatlye.
27:15At that feast, the debite was wonte to delyuer vnto the people a presoner, whom they wold desier.
27:16He had then a notable presoner, called Barrabas.
27:17Therfore, when they were gathered together, Pilate sayd: whether wil ye that I geue loosse vnto you? Barrabas, or Iesus, whych is called Chryst?
27:18For he knewe that for enuie they had delyuered him.
27:19When he was set downe to geue iudgement, his wyfe sent vnto him sayinge: haue thou nothinge to do with that iust man. For I haue suffered many thinges this daye in my slepe because of him.
27:20But the chefe prestes and the elders persuaded the people, that they shulde aske Barrabas, and destroye Iesus.
27:21The debite answered, and sayde vnto them: whether of the twayne, will ye, that I let loosse vnto you? They sayd: Barrabas.
27:22Pilate sayde vnto them: what shall I do then with Iesus whych is called Christ? They all sayd vnto him: let him be crucifyed.
27:23The debite sayde: what euyll hath he done? But they cryed the more, sayinge: let him be crucifyed.
27:24When Pilate sawe that he coulde preuayle nothinge, but that more busynes was made, he toke water, and wasshed hys handes before the people, sayinge: I am innocent of the bloud of this iust person, ye shall se.
27:25Then answered all the people, and sayd his bloud be on vs, and on oure children.
27:26Then let he Barrabas loose vnto them, and scourged Iesus, and delyuered him to be crucifyed.
27:27Then the soudeours of the debite toke Iesus in the comen hall, and gathered vnto him al the company.
27:28And they stripped him, and put on him a purpill robe,
27:29and platted a croune of thornes and put vpon his heed, and a rede in his ryght hande: and bowed the knee before him: & mocked him, saying: hayle, kyng of the Iewes:
27:30and whan they had spytt vpon him, they toke the rede, and smote him on the heed.
27:31And after that they had mocked him, they toke the roabe of him agayne, and put hys awne rayment on him, & led him awaye to crucifye him.
27:32And as they came out, they founde a man of Cyren (named Simon) him they compelled to beare his crosse.
27:33And they came vnto the place which is called Golgotha (that is to saye, a place of deed mens sculles)
27:34and gaue hym veneger to drincke myngled with gall. And when he had tasted therof, he wolde not drincke.
27:35When they had crucifyed him, they parted his garmentes, & dyd cast lottes: that it myght be fulfylled which was spoken by the Prophet. They departed my garmentes amonge them: and vpon my vesture dyd they cast lottes.
27:36And they sate and watched him there,
27:37and set vp ouer his heed the cause of hys deeth, wrytten: This is Iesus the kynge of the Iewes.
27:38Then were there two theues crucifyed with him, one on the ryght hande, and another on the lyfte.
27:39They that passed by, reuyled him, waggynge their heades,
27:40and sayinge: thou that destroydest the temple of God and dyddest bylde it in thre dayes, saue thy selfe If thou be the sonne of God, come downe from the crosse.
27:41Like wyse also the hye prestes, mocking him with the Scribes and elders sayde:
27:42He saued other, him selfe can he not saue. If he be the kynge of Israel: let him now come doune from the crosse, & we will beleue him.
27:43He trusted in God, let him delyuer him now, yf he wyll haue him: for he sayde, I am the sonne of God.
27:44The theues also, which were crucifyed with him, cast the same in his tethe.
27:45From the syxte houre was there dercknes ouer all the lande vnto the nynth houre.
27:46And about the nynth houre, Iesus cryed, wyth a loude voyce, sayinge: Eli, Eli lamasabaththany. That is to saye: my God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
27:47Some of them that stode there, when they herde that, sayde: This man calleth for Helias.
27:48And streyght waye one of them ranne, and toke a sponge, and whan he had fylled it full of veneger, he put it on a rede, and gaue him to drincke.
27:49Other sayde, let be: let vs se whether Helias will come, & delyuer him.
27:50Iesus, whan he had cried agayne wt a loude voyce, yelded vp the goost.
27:51And beholde, the vayle of the temple dyd rent in to two partes, from the toppe to the bottome, and the earth dyd quake, and the stones ren
27:52and graues dyd open: and many bodyes of sainctes which slept, arose,
27:53& went out of the graues after his resurreccyon, and came in to the holy cytie, and appeared vnto many.
27:54When the Centurion and they that were with him watchinge Iesus, sawe the erth quake, those thinges which happened, they feared greatly, saying: Trulye, this was the sonne of God.
27:55And many wemen were there (beholdinge hym a farre of) whych folowed Iesus from Galile, mynistringe vnto him.
27:56Amonge which was Mary Magdalen, and Mary the mother of Iames and Ioses, and the mother of Zebedes chyldren.
27:57When the euen was come there came a riche man of Aramathia named Ioseph, which also was Iesus disciple:
27:58He went to Pilate and begged the body of Iesus. Then Pilate commaunded the bodye to be delyuered.
27:59And whan Ioseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a cleane lynnen cloth,
27:60and layed it in hys newe tombe, whych he had hewen out, euen in the rocke, and rolled a greate stone to the dore of the sepulcre & departed.
27:61And there was Mary Magdalene and the other Mary syttynge ouer agaynste the sepulcre.
27:62The nexte daye that folowed the daye of preparinge, the hye prestes and Pharises came together vnto Pilate,
27:63sayeng: Syr, we remembre, that this deceauer sayde whyle he was yet alyue. After thre dayes I wyll aryse agayne.
27:64Commaunde therfore that the sepulcre be made sure vntyll the thyrd daye, lest hys disciples come, & steale him awaye and saye vnto the people: he is rysen from the deed, & the last errour shalbe worse then the fyrst.
27:65Pylate sayde vnto them: Ye haue the watch go your waye, make it as sure as ye can.
27:66So they went, and made the sepulcre sure with watche men, and sealed the stone.

27:1When the morning was come, all the chiefe Priests, and the elders of the people tooke counsell against Iesus, to put him to death,
27:2And led him away bounde, and deliuered him vnto Pontius Pilate the gouernour.
27:3Then when Iudas which betraied him, sawe that hee was condemned, hee repented himselfe, and brought againe the thirtie pieces of siluer to the chiefe Priestes, and Elders,
27:4Saying, I haue sinned, betraying the innocent bloud. But they sayde, What is that to vs? see thou to it.
27:5And when hee had cast downe the siluer pieces in the Temple, hee departed, and went, and hanged himselfe.
27:6And the chiefe Priestes tooke the siluer pieces, and sayde, It is not lawfull for vs to put them into the treasure, because it is the price of bloud.
27:7And they tooke counsell, and bought with them a potters fielde, for the buriall of strangers.
27:8Wherefore that field is called, The field of bloud, vntill this day.
27:9(Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Ieremias the Prophet, saying, And they tooke thirtie siluer pieces, ye price of him that was valued, whom they of ye children of Israel valued.
27:10And they gaue them for the potters fielde, as the Lord appointed me.)
27:11And Iesus stood before ye gouernour, and the gouernour asked him, saying, Art thou that King of the Iewes? Iesus said vnto him, Thou sayest it.
27:12And when he was accused of the chiefe Priestes, and Elders, he answered nothing.
27:13Then saide Pilate vnto him, Hearest thou not howe many things they lay against thee?
27:14But he answered him not to one worde, in so much that the gouernour marueiled greatly.
27:15Nowe at the feast, the gouernour was wont to deliuer vnto the people a prisoner whom they would.
27:16And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
27:17When they were then gathered together, Pilate said vnto the, Whether will ye that I let loose vnto you Barabbas, or Iesus which is called Christ?
27:18(For he knewe well, that for enuie they had deliuered him.
27:19Also when he was set downe vpon the iudgement seate, his wife sent to him, saying, Haue thou nothing to do with that iust man: for I haue suffered many things this day in a dreame by reason of him.)
27:20But the chiefe Priestes and the Elders had persuaded the people that they shoulde aske Barabbas, and should destroy Iesus.
27:21Then the gouernour answered, and said vnto them, Whether of the twaine will ye that I let loose vnto you? And they said, Barabbas.
27:22Pilate said vnto them, What shall I do then with Iesus, which is called Christ? They all said to him, Let him be crucified.
27:23Then saide the gouernour, But what euill hath he done? Then they cryed the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
27:24When Pilate saw that he auailed nothing, but that more tumult was made, he tooke water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this iust man: looke you to it.
27:25Then answered all the people, and saide, His bloud be on vs, and on our children.
27:26Thus let he Barabbas loose vnto them, and scourged Iesus, and deliuered him to be crucified.
27:27Then the souldiers of the gouernour tooke Iesus into the common hall, and gathered about him the whole band,
27:28And they stripped him, and put about him a skarlet robe,
27:29And platted a crowne of thornes, and put it vpon his head, and a reede in his right hand, and bowed their knees before him, and mocked him, saying, God saue thee King of the Iewes,
27:30And spitted vpon him, and tooke a reede, and smote him on the head.
27:31Thus when they had mocked him, they tooke the robe from him, and put his owne rayment on him, and led him away to crucifie him.
27:32And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, named Simon: him they compelled to beare his crosse.
27:33And when they came vnto the place called Golgotha, (that is to say, the place of dead mens skulles)
27:34They gaue him vineger to drinke, mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drinke.
27:35And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, and did cast lottes, that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the Prophet, They deuided my garments among them, and vpon my vesture did cast lottes.
27:36And they sate, and watched him there.
27:37They set vp also ouer his head his cause written, THIS IS IESVS THE KING OF THE IEVVES.
27:38And there were two theeues crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
27:39And they that passed by, reuiled him, wagging their heades,
27:40And saying, Thou that destroyest ye Temple, and buildest it in three dayes, saue thy selfe: if thou be ye Sonne of God, come downe from ye crosse.
27:41Likewise also the hie Priests mocking him, with the Scribes, and Elders, and Pharises, said,
27:42He saued others, but he cannot saue him selfe: if he be ye King of Israel, let him now come downe from ye crosse, and we will beleeue in him.
27:43He trusted in God, let him deliuer him nowe, if he will haue him: for he saide, I am the Sonne of God.
27:44The selfe same thing also ye theeues which were crucified with him, cast in his teeth.
27:45Now from ye sixt houre was there darkenesse ouer all the land, vnto the ninth houre.
27:46And about ye ninth houre Iesus cryed with a loud voyce, saying, Eli, Eli, lamasabachthani? that is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
27:47And some of them that stoode there, when they heard it, said, This man calleth Elias.
27:48And straightway one of them ran, and tooke a spondge, and filled it with vineger, and put it on a reede, and gaue him to drinke.
27:49Other said, Let be: let vs see, if Elias wil come and saue him.
27:50Then Iesus cryed againe with a loude voyce, and yeelded vp the ghost.
27:51And behold, the vayle of the Temple was rent in twaine, from the top to the bottome, and the earth did quake, and the stones were cloue.
27:52And the graues did open themselues, and many bodies of the Saintes, which slept, arose,
27:53And came out of the graues after his resurrection, and went into the holy citie, and appeared vnto many.
27:54When the Centurion, and they that were with him watching Iesus, saw the earthquake, and the thinges that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truely this was the Sonne of God.
27:55And many women were there, beholding him a farre off, which had folowed Iesus from Galile, ministring vnto him.
27:56Among whom was Marie Magdalene, and Marie the mother of Iames, and Ioses, and the mother of Zebedeus sonnes.
27:57And when the euen was come, there came a riche man of Arimathea, named Ioseph, who had also himselfe bene Iesus disciple.
27:58He went to Pilate, and asked ye body of Iesus. Then Pilate commanded ye body to be deliuered.
27:59So Ioseph tooke the body, and wrapped it in a cleane linnen cloth,
27:60And put it in his new tombe, which he had hewen out in a rocke, and rolled a great stone to the doore of the sepulchre, and departed.
27:61And there was Marie Magdalene, and the other Marie sitting ouer against the sepulchre.
27:62Nowe the next day that followed the Preparation of the Sabbath, the hie Priestes and Pharises assembled to Pilate,
27:63And said, Syr, we remember that that deceiuer saide, while he was yet aliue, Within three dayes I will rise.
27:64Command therefore, that the sepulchre be made sure vntill the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steale him away, and say vnto the people, He is risen from the dead: so shall the last errour be worse then the first.
27:65Then Pilate saide vnto them, Ye haue a watch: goe, and make it sure as ye knowe.
27:66And they went, and made the sepulchre sure with the watch, and sealed the stone.
