Mark - Chapter: 6

>
6:1And he went forth thence, and came to his own country, and his disciples do follow him,
6:2and sabbath having come, he began in the synagogue to teach, and many hearing were astonished, saying, `Whence hath this one these things? and what the wisdom that was given to him, that also such mighty works through his hands are done?
6:3Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us?' -- and they were being stumbled at him.
6:4And Jesus said to them -- `A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his kindred, and in his own house;'
6:5and he was not able there any mighty work to do, except on a few infirm people having put hands he did heal `them';
6:6and he wondered because of their unbelief. And he was going round the villages, in a circle, teaching,
6:7and he doth call near the twelve, and he began to send them forth two by two, and he was giving them power over the unclean spirits,
6:8and he commanded them that they may take nothing for the way, except a staff only -- no scrip, no bread, no brass in the girdle,
6:9but having been shod with sandals, and ye may not put on two coats.
6:10And he said to them, `Whenever ye may enter into a house, there remain till ye may depart thence,
6:11and as many as may not receive you, nor hear you, going out thence, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony to them; verily I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom or Gomorrah in a day of judgment than for that city.'
6:12And having gone forth they were preaching that `men' might reform,
6:13and many demons they were casting out, and they were anointing with oil many infirm, and they were healing `them'.
6:14And the king Herod heard, (for his name became public,) and he said -- `John the Baptist out of the dead was raised, and because of this the mighty powers are working in him.'
6:15Others said -- `It is Elijah,' and others said -- `It is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.'
6:16And Herod having heard, said -- `He whom I did behead -- John -- this is he; he was raised out of the dead.'
6:17For Herod himself, having sent forth, did lay hold on John, and bound him in the prison, because of Herodias the wife of Philip his brother, because he married her,
6:18for John said to Herod -- `It is not lawful to thee to have the wife of thy brother;'
6:19and Herodias was having a quarrel with him, and was willing to kill him, and was not able,
6:20for Herod was fearing John, knowing him a man righteous and holy, and was keeping watch over him, and having heard him, was doing many things, and hearing him gladly.
6:21And a seasonable day having come, when Herod on his birthday was making a supper to his great men, and to the chiefs of thousands, and to the first men of Galilee,
6:22and the daughter of that Herodias having come in, and having danced, and having pleased Herod and those reclining (at meat) with him, the king said to the damsel, `Ask of me whatever thou wilt, and I will give to thee,'
6:23and he sware to her -- `Whatever thou mayest ask me, I will give to thee -- unto the half of my kingdom.'
6:24And she, having gone forth, said to her mother, `What shall I ask for myself?' and she said, `The head of John the Baptist;'
6:25and having come in immediately with haste unto the king, she asked, saying, `I will that thou mayest give me presently, upon a plate, the head of John the Baptist.'
6:26And the king -- made very sorrowful -- because of the oaths and of those reclining (at meat) with him, would not put her away,
6:27and immediately the king having sent a guardsman, did command his head to be brought,
6:28and he having gone, beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head upon a plate, and did give it to the damsel, and the damsel did give it to her mother;
6:29and having heard, his disciples came and took up his corpse, and laid it in the tomb.
6:30And the apostles are gathered together unto Jesus, and they told him all, and how many things they did, and how many things they taught,
6:31and he said to them, `Come ye yourselves apart to a desert place, and rest a little,' for those coming and those going were many, and not even to eat had they opportunity,
6:32and they went away to a desert place, in the boat, by themselves.
6:33And the multitudes saw them going away, and many recognised him, and by land from all the cities they ran thither, and went before them, and came together to him,
6:34and having come forth, Jesus saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion on them, that they were as sheep not having a shepherd, and he began to teach many things.
6:35And now the hour being advanced, his disciples having come near to him, say, -- `The place is desolate, and the hour is now advanced,
6:36let them away, that, having gone away to the surrounding fields and villages, they may buy to themselves loaves, for what they may eat they have not.'
6:37And he answering said to them, `Give ye them to eat,' and they say to him, `Having gone away, may we buy two hundred denaries' worth of loaves, and give to them to eat?'
6:38And he saith to them, `How many loaves have ye? go and see;' and having known, they say, `Five, and two fishes.'
6:39And he commanded them to make all recline in companies upon the green grass,
6:40and they sat down in squares, by hundreds, and by fifties.
6:41And having taken the five loaves and the two fishes, having looked up to the heaven, he blessed, and brake the loaves, and was giving to his disciples, that they may set before them, and the two fishes divided he to all,
6:42and they did all eat, and were filled,
6:43and they took up of broken pieces twelve hand-baskets full, and of the fishes,
6:44and those eating of the loaves were about five thousand men.
6:45And immediately he constrained his disciples to go into the boat, and to go before to the other side, unto Bethsaida, till he may let the multitude away,
6:46and having taken leave of them, he went away to the mountain to pray.
6:47And evening having come, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and he alone upon the land;
6:48and he saw them harassed in the rowing, for the wind was against them, and about the fourth watch of the night he doth come to them walking on the sea, and wished to pass by them.
6:49And they having seen him walking on the sea, thought `it' to be an apparition, and cried out,
6:50for they all saw him, and were troubled, and immediately he spake with them, and saith to them, `Take courage, I am `he', be not afraid.'
6:51And he went up unto them to the boat, and the wind lulled, and greatly out of measure were they amazed in themselves, and were wondering,
6:52for they understood not concerning the loaves, for their heart hath been hard.
6:53And having passed over, they came upon the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore,
6:54and they having come forth out of the boat, immediately having recognised him,
6:55having run about through all that region round about, they began upon the couches to carry about those ill, where they were hearing that he is,
6:56and wherever he was going, to villages, or cities, or fields, in the market-places they were laying the infirm, and were calling upon him, that they may touch if it were but the fringe of his garment, and as many as were touching him were saved.

6:1And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.
6:2And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
6:3Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
6:4But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
6:5And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
6:6And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.
6:7And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;
6:8And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:
6:9But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.
6:10And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.
6:11And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
6:12And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
6:13And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.
6:14And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
6:15Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.
6:16But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.
6:17For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.
6:18For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.
6:19Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:
6:20For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.
6:21And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;
6:22And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.
6:23And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.
6:24And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
6:25And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.
6:26And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.
6:27And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
6:28And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.
6:29And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.
6:30And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.
6:31And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
6:32And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
6:33And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.
6:34And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
6:35And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:
6:36Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.
6:37He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?
6:38He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.
6:39And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.
6:40And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.
6:41And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
6:42And they did all eat, and were filled.
6:43And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
6:44And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.
6:45And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.
6:46And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.
6:47And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.
6:48And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
6:49But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:
6:50For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
6:51And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.
6:52For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.
6:53And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.
6:54And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,
6:55And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.
6:56And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.

6:1And He went out from there and came to His native place. And His disciples followed Him.
6:2And a sabbath occurring, He began to teach in the synagogue. And hearing, many were amazed, saying, From where came these things to this one? And what is the wisdom given to him, that even such works of power come about through his hands?
6:3Is this one not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joseph and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended in Him.
6:4And Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honor, except in his native place, and among the relatives, and in his own house.
6:5And He could do no work of power there, except He performed healing on a few infirm ones, laying on His hands.
6:6And He marveled because of their unbelief. And He went around the villages in a circuit, teaching.
6:7And He called the Twelve near and began to send them out two by two. And He gave them authority over the unclean spirits,
6:8and charged them that they take nothing in the way, except only a staff; no bag, no bread, no copper in the belt;
6:9but having tied on sandals, and not putting on two tunics.
6:10And He said to them, Wherever you enter into a house, remain there until you go out from there.
6:11And as many as will not receive you, nor hear from you, having gone out from there, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony to them. Truly I say to you, it will be more bearable for Sodom or Gomorrah in Judgment Day than for that city.
6:12And going out, they proclaimed that men should repent.
6:13And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil and healed many sick ones.
6:14And Herod the king heard, for His name became publicly known. And he said, John the Baptist has been raised from the dead, and because of this the works of power operate in him.
6:15Others said, He is Elijah; and others said, He is a prophet or as one of the prophets.
6:16But hearing, Herod said, This one is John whom I beheaded. He has risen from the dead.
6:17For having sent, Herod himself had seized John and bound him in the prison, because of Herodias the wife of his brother Philip, because he had married her.
6:18For John had said to Herod, It is not lawful for you to have the wife of your brother.
6:19And Herodias held it against him, and desired to kill him, but was not able.
6:20For Herod feared John, knowing him to be a holy and just man, and kept him safe. And hearing him, he did many things, and gladly heard from him.
6:21And a suitable day having come, when Herod made a dinner for his great ones on his birthday, also the chiliarchs, and the first ones of Galilee.
6:22And the daughter of Herodias herself entering, and dancing, she also pleased Herod and those reclining with him . The king said to the girl, Ask me whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.
6:23And he swore to her, Whatever you ask me, I will give to you, up to half of my kingdom.
6:24And going out, she said to her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
6:25And immediately going in with haste to the king, she asked, saying, I desire that at once you give to me the head of John the Baptist on a platter.
6:26And becoming deeply grieved, but because of the oaths and those reclining together, the king did not wish to reject her.
6:27And the king sending a guardsman at once, he ordered his head to be brought. And going, he beheaded him in the prison,
6:28and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl. And the girl gave it to her mother.
6:29And hearing, his disciples went and took his corpse and placed it in a tomb.
6:30And the apostles gathered to Jesus. And they told Him all things, even what they did and what they taught.
6:31And He said to them, You yourselves come apart into a deserted place, and rest a little. For those coming and those going were many, and they did not even have opportunity to eat.
6:32And they departed by boat into a deserted place apart.
6:33And the crowds saw them going, and many recognized Him. And they ran together on foot there, from all the cities, and came before them, and came together to Him.
6:34And going out, Jesus saw a large crowd, and had pity on them, because "they were as sheep having no shepherd." And He began to teach them many things. Num. 27:17; Eze. 34:5
6:35And it now becoming a late hour, drawing near to Him, the disciples said, The place is deserted, and it is now a late hour.
6:36Send them away, that going away to the surrounding fields and villages they may buy bread for themselves. For they do not have what they may eat.
6:37And answering, He said to them, You give them food to eat. And they said to Him, Going, should we buy two hundred denarii of bread and give them to eat?
6:38And He said to them, How many loaves do you have? Go and see. And knowing, they said, Five, and two fish.
6:39And He ordered them all to recline, group by group on the green grass.
6:40And they sat, group by group, by hundred and by fifty.
6:41And taking the five loaves and the two fish, looking up to Heaven, He blessed, and broke the loaves, and gave to His disciples, that they might set before them. And He divided the two fish to all.
6:42And all ate, and were satisfied.
6:43And they took up twelve hand baskets full of fragments, also from the fish.
6:44And those eating the loaves were about five thousand men.
6:45And at once He constrained His disciples to enter into the boat, and to go before to the other side, to Bethsaida, until He should dismiss the crowd.
6:46And taking leave of them, He went away to the mountain to pray.
6:47And it becoming evening, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and He alone on the land.
6:48And He saw them being distressed in the rowing, for the wind was contrary to them. And it was about the fourth watch of the night when He came toward them, walking on the sea. And He willed to go by them.
6:49But seeing Him walking on the sea, they thought it to be a ghost. And they cried out.
6:50For all saw Him, and were troubled. And immediately He spoke to them and said to them, Have courage. I AM! Do not fear.
6:51And He went up to them into the boat, and the wind was cut off. And they were amazed, exceedingly beyond measure within themselves, and marveled.
6:52For they did not understand the miracle of the loaves, for their hearts were hardened.
6:53And crossing over, they came into the land of Gennesaret and drew to shore.
6:54And they, coming out of the boat, at once knowing Him,
6:55they ran around all that neighborhood. And they began to carry about those having illness on cots to where they heard that He was.
6:56And wherever He went into villages or cities or fields, they laid the ailing ones in the markets and begged Him if only they may touch the fringe of His garment. And as many as touched Him were healed.
