8:1	In tho daies eft, whanne myche puple was with Jhesu, and hadden not what thei schulden ete, whanne hise disciplis weren clepid togidir,
8:2	he seide to hem, I haue reuth on the puple, for lo! now the thridde dai thei abiden me, and han not what to ete;
8:3	and if Y leeue hem fastynge in to her hous, thei schulen faile in the weie; for summe of hem camen fro fer.
8:4	And hise disciplis answerden to hym, Wherof schal a man mowe fille hem with looues here in wildirnesse?
8:5	And he axide hem, Hou many looues han ye?
8:6	Whiche seiden, Seuene. And he comaundide the puple to sitte doun on the erthe. And he took the seuene looues, and dide thankyngis, and brak, and yaf to hise disciplis, that thei schulden sette forth. And thei settiden forth to the puple.
8:7	And thei hadden a few smale fischis; and he blesside hem, and comaundide, that thei weren sette forth.
8:8	And thei eten, and weren fulfillid; and thei token vp that that lefte of relifs, seuene lepis.
8:9	And thei that eeten, weren as foure thousynde of men; and he lefte hem.
8:10	And anoon he wente vp in to a boot, with hise disciplis, and cam in to the coostis of Dalmamytha.
8:11	And the Farisees wenten out, and bigunnen to dispuyte with hym, and axiden a tokne of hym fro heuene, and temptiden hym.
8:12	And he sorewynge `with ynne in spirit, seide, What sekith this generacioun a tokne? Treuli Y seie to you, a tokene schal not be youun to this generacioun.
8:13	And he lefte hem, and wente vp eftsoone in to a boot, and wente ouer the see.
8:14	And thei foryaten to take breed, and thei hadden not with hem but o loof in the boot.
8:15	And he comaundide hem, and seide, Se ye, and `be war of the sowre dowy of Farisees, and of the sowrdowy of Eroude.
8:16	And thei thouyten, and seiden oon to anothir, For we han not looues.
8:17	And whanne this thing was knowun, Jhesus seide to hem, What thenken ye, for ye han not looues? Yit ye knowun not, ne vndurstonden; yit ye han youre herte blyndid.
8:18	Ye hauynge iyen, seen not, and ye hauynge eeris, heren not; nethir ye han mynde,
8:19	whanne Y brak fyue looues among fyue thousynde, and hou many cofynes ful of brokun meete `ye tokun vp? Thei seien to hym, Twelue.
8:20	Whanne also seuene looues among foure thousynde of men, hou many lepis of brokun mete tokun ye vp?
8:21	And thei seien to hym, Seuene. And he seide to hem, Hou vndurstonden ye not yit?
8:22	And thei camen to Bethsaida, and thei bryngen to hym a blynde man, and thei preieden hym, that he schulde touche hym.
8:23	And whanne he hadde take the blynde mannus hoond, he ledde hym out of the street, and spete in to hise iyen, and sette hise hoondis on hym; and he axide hym, if he saye ony thing.
8:24	And he bihelde, and seide, Y se men as trees walkynge.
8:25	Aftirward eftsoones he sette hise hondis on hise iyen, and he bigan to see, and he was restorid, so that he saiy cleerli alle thingis.
8:26	And he sente hym in to his hous, and seide, Go in to thin hous; and if thou goist in to the streete, seie to no man.
8:27	And Jhesus entride and hise disciplis in to the castels of Cesarye of Philip. And in the weie he axide hise disciplis, and seide to hem, Whom seien men that Y am?
8:28	Whiche answeriden to hym, and seiden, Summen seien, Joon Baptist; other seien, Heli; and other seien, as oon of the prophetis.
8:29	Thanne he seith to hem, But whom seien ye that Y am? Petre answeride, and seide to hym, Thou art Crist.
8:30	And he chargide hem, that thei schulden not seie of hym to ony man.
8:31	And he bigan to teche hem, that it bihoueth mannus sone to suffre many thingis, and to be repreued of the elder men, and of the hiyest prestis, and the scribis, and to be slayn, and aftir thre dayes, to rise ayen.
8:32	And he spak pleynli the word. And Peter took hym, and bigan to blame hym, and seide, Lord, be thou merciful to thee, for this schal not be.
8:33	And he turnede, and saiy hise disciplis, and manasside Petir, and seide, Go after me, Satanas; for thou sauerist not tho thingis that ben of God, but tho thingis that ben of men.
8:34	And whanne the puple was clepid togidere, with hise disciplis, he seide to hem, If ony man wole come after me, denye he hym silf, and take his cros, and sue he me.
8:35	For he that wole make saaf his lijf, schal leese it; and he that leesith his lijf for me, and for the gospel, schal make it saaf.
8:36	For what profitith it to a man, if he wynne al the world, and do peiryng to his soule?
8:37	or what chaunging schal a man yyue for his soule?
8:38	But who that knoulechith me and my wordis in this generacioun avowtresse and synful, also mannus sone schal knouleche him, whanne he schal come in the glorie of his fadir, with his aungels.


8:1	In those dayes, when there was a very great multitude, and had nothing to eate, Iesus called his disciples to him, and said vnto them,
8:2	I haue compassion on the multitude, because they haue nowe continued with mee three dayes, and haue nothing to eate.
8:3	And if I sende them away fasting to their owne houses, they woulde faint by the way: for some of them came from farre.
8:4	Then his disciples answered him, Whence can a man satisfie these with bread here in the wildernes?
8:5	And hee asked them, Howe many loaues haue ye? And they said, Seuen.
8:6	Then he commanded the multitude to sit downe on the grounde: and hee tooke the seuen loaues, and gaue thankes, brake them, and gaue to his disciples to set before them, and they did set them before the people.
8:7	They had also a few small fishes: and when he had giuen thankes, he commanded them also to be set before them.
8:8	So they did eate, and were sufficed, and they tooke vp of the broken meate that was left, seuen baskets full.
8:9	(And they that had eaten, were about foure thousand) so he sent them away.
8:10	And anon he entred into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
8:11	And the Pharises came foorth, and began to dispute with him, seeking of him a signe from heauen, and tempting him.
8:12	Then hee sighed deepely in his spirit, and saide, Why doeth this generation seeke a signe? Verely I say vnto you, a signe shall not be giuen vnto this generation.
8:13	So he left them, and went into the ship againe, and departed to the other side.
8:14	And they had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the shippe with them, but one loafe.
8:15	And he charged them, saying, Take heede, and beware of the leauen of the Pharises, and of the leauen of Herod.
8:16	And they reasoned among themselues, saying, It is, because we haue no bread.
8:17	And when Iesus knew it, he said vnto them, Why reason you thus, because ye haue no bread? perceiue ye not yet, neither vnderstande? haue ye your hearts yet hardened?
8:18	Haue yee eyes, and see not? and haue yee eares, and heare not? and doe ye not remember?
8:19	When I brake the fiue loaues among fiue thousand, how many baskets full of broken meate tooke ye vp? They said vnto him, Twelue.
8:20	And when I brake seuen among foure thousande, howe many baskets of the leauings of broken meate tooke ye vp? And they said, Seuen.
8:21	Then he saide vnto them, Howe is it that ye vnderstand not?
8:22	And hee came to Bethsaida, and they brought a blinde man vnto him, and desired him to touch him.
8:23	Then he tooke the blinde by the hand, and ledde him out of the towne, and spat in his eyes, and put his handes vpon him, and asked him, if he sawe ought.
8:24	And he looked vp, and said, I see men: for I see them walking like trees.
8:25	After that, he put his hands againe vpon his eyes, and made him looke againe. And hee was restored to his sight, and sawe euery man a farre off clearely.
8:26	And hee sent him home to his house, saying, Neither goe into the towne, nor tell it to any in the towne.
8:27	And Iesus went out, and his disciples into the townes of Cesarea Philippi. And by the way hee asked his disciples, saying vnto them, Whome doe men say that I am?
8:28	And they answered, Some say, Iohn Baptist: and some, Elias: and some, one of the Prophets.
8:29	And he said vnto them, But whome say ye that I am? Then Peter answered, and saide vnto him, Thou art that Christ.
8:30	And he sharpely charged them, that concerning him they should tell no man.
8:31	Then hee began to teache them that the Sonne of man must suffer many things, and should be reproued of the Elders, and of the hie Priestes, and of the Scribes, and be slaine, and within three dayes rise againe.
8:32	And he spake that thing boldly. Then Peter tooke him aside, and began to rebuke him.
8:33	Then he turned backe, and looked on his disciples, and rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behinde me, Satan: for thou vnderstandest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men.
8:34	And hee called the people vnto him with his disciples, and saide vnto them, Whosoeuer will follow me, let him forsake himselfe, and take vp his crosse, and follow me.
8:35	For whosoeuer will saue his life, shall lose it: but whosoeuer shall lose his life for my sake and the Gospels, he shall saue it.
8:36	For what shall it profite a man, though he should winne the whole world, if he lose his soule?
8:37	Or what exchange shall a man giue for his soule?
8:38	For whosoeuer shall be ashamed of mee, and of my wordes among this adulterous and sinfull generation, of him shall the Sonne of man be ashamed also, when he commeth in the glorie of his Father with the holy Angels.


8:1	In those days, the crowds being very large and having nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Him and said to them,
8:2	"I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat."
8:3	And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint on the way; because, some of them have come from afar."
8:4	Then His disciples replied to Him, "How can one satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?"
8:5	He asked them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven."
8:6	So He commanded the people to sit down on the ground. And He took the seven loaves and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and they set them before the people.
8:7	And they also had a few small fish; and having blessed them, He commanded to set them also before them.
8:8	So they ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets of leftover food fragments.
8:9	Now those who had eaten were about four thousand, and He sent them away.
8:10	Then immediately He got into the boat with His disciples, and came to the region of Dalmanutha.
8:11	And the Pharisees came out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him.
8:12	But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation."
8:13	And He left them, and getting into the boat again, departed to the other side.
8:14	Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, and they did not have more than one loaf with them in the boat.
8:15	And He charged them, saying, "Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod."
8:16	And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "It is because we have no bread."
8:17	But when Jesus knew about it, He said to them, "Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened?"
8:18	Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?"
8:19	And when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?" They said to Him, "Twelve."
8:20	"Also, when the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of fragments did you take up?" And they said, "Seven."
8:21	So He said to them, "How is it that you do not understand?"
8:22	Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him.
8:23	So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spat on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything."
8:24	And he looked up and said, "I see men like trees, walking."
8:25	Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly.
8:26	Then He sent him away to his house, saying, "Neither go into the town, nor tell it to anyone in the town."
8:27	Now Jesus and His disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, "Who do men say that I am?"
8:28	So they answered, "John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets."
8:29	He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered and said to Him, "You are the Christ."
8:30	Then He strictly warned them that they should tell no one about Him.
8:31	And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and by chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
8:32	And He spoke this saying openly. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.
8:33	But when He had turned around and looked at His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, "Get behind Me, Satan! Because, you are not mindful of the things that are of God, but the things that are of men."
8:34	And when He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, "Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."
8:35	Because, whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it."
8:36	Because, what shall it profit a man if he gains the entire world, and loses his own soul?"
8:37	Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"
8:38	Because, whoever shall be ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man will also be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels."
