12:1	And Jhesus bigan to speke to hem in parablis. A man plauntide a vynyerd, and sette an hegge aboute it, and dalf a lake, and bildide a toure, and hiryde it to tilieris, and wente forth in pilgrimage.
12:2	And he sente to the erthe tilieris in tyme a seruaunt, to resseyue of the erthe tilieris of the fruyt of the vynyerd.
12:3	And thei token hym, and beeten, and leften hym voide.
12:4	And eftsoone he sente to hem anothir seruaunt, and thei woundiden hym in the heed, and turmentiden hym.
12:5	And eftsoone he sente another, and thei slowen hym, and othir mo, betynge summe, and sleynge othere.
12:6	But yit he hadde a moost derworth sone, and he sente hym last to hem, and seide, Perauenture thei schulen drede my sone.
12:7	But the erthetilieris seiden togidere, This is the eire; come ye, sle we hym, and the eritage schal be ourun.
12:8	And thei tokun hym, and killiden, and castiden out without the vynyerd.
12:9	Thanne what schal the lord of the vynyerd do? He schal come, and lese the tilieris, and yyue the vynyerd to othere.
12:10	Whether ye han not red this scripture, The stoon which the bilderis han disspisid, this is maad in to the heed of the corner?
12:11	This thing is doon of the Lord, and is wondirful in oure iyen.
12:12	And thei souyten to holde hym, and thei dredden the puple; for thei knewen that to hem he seide this parable; and thei leften hym,
12:13	and thei wenten awei. And thei senten to hym summe of the Farisees and Erodians, to take hym in word.
12:14	Whiche camen, and seien to hym, Maistir, we witen that thou art sothfast, and reckist not of ony man; for nethir thou biholdist in to the face of man, but thou techist the weie of God in treuthe. Is it leeueful that tribute be youun to the emperoure, or we schulen not yyue?
12:15	Which witynge her pryuei falsnesse, seide to hem, What tempten ye me? brynge ye to me a peny, that Y se.
12:16	And thei brouyten to hym. And he seide to hem, Whos is this ymage, and the writyng? Thei seien to him, The emperouris.
12:17	And Jhesus answeride and seide to hem, Thanne yelde ye to the emperour tho thingis that ben of the emperours; and to God tho thingis that ben of God.
12:18	And thei wondriden of hym. And Saduces, that seien that ther is no ressurreccioun, camen to hym, and axeden hym,
12:19	and seiden, Maister, Moyses wroot to vs, that if the brother of a man were deed, and lefte his wijf, and haue no sones, his brother take his wijf, and reise vp seed to his brother.
12:20	Thanne seuene britheren ther weren; and the firste took a wijf, and diede, and lefte no seed.
12:21	And the secounde took hir, and he diede, and nether this lefte seed.
12:22	And the thridde also. And in lijk manere the seuene token hir, and leften not seed. And the womman the laste of alle `is deed.
12:23	Thanne in the resurreccioun, whanne thei schulen rise ayen, whos wijf of these schal sche be? for seuene hadden hir to wijf.
12:24	And Jhesus answeride, and seide to hem, Whether ye erren not therfor, that ye knowe not scripturis, nethir the vertu of God?
12:25	For whanne thei schulen rise ayen fro deeth, nether thei schulen wedde, nethir schulen be weddid, but thei schulen be as aungels of God in heuenes.
12:26	And of deed men, that thei risen ayen, han ye not red in the book of Moises, on the buysch, hou God spak to hym, and seide, Y am God of Abraham, and God of Isaac, and God of Jacob?
12:27	He is not God of deed men, but of lyuynge men; therfor ye erren myche.
12:28	And oon of the scribis, that hadde herde hem dispuytynge togidir, cam nyy, and saiy that Jhesus had wel answeride hem, and axide hym, which was the firste maundement of alle.
12:29	And Jhesus answeride to him, that the firste maundement of alle is, Here thou, Israel, thi Lord God is o God;
12:30	and thou schalt loue thi Lord God of al thin herte, and of al thi soule, and of al thi mynde, and of al thi myyt.
12:31	This is the firste maundement. And the secounde is lijk to this, Thou schalt loue thi neiybore as thi silf. Ther is noon other maundement gretter than these.
12:32	And the scribe seide to hym, Maister, in treuthe thou hast wel seid; for o God is, and ther is noon other, outakun hym;
12:33	that he be loued of al the herte, and of al the mynde, and of al the vndurstondynge, and of al the soule, and of al strengthe, and to loue the neiybore as hym silf, is gretter than alle brent offryngis and sacrifices.
12:34	And Jhesus seynge that he hadde answerid wiseli, seide to hym, Thou art not fer fro the kyngdom of God.
12:35	And thanne no man durste axe hym no more ony thing. And Jhesus answeride and seide, techynge in the temple, Hou seien scribis, that Crist is the sone of Dauid?
12:36	For Dauid hym silf seide in the Hooli Goost, the Lord seide to my lord, Sitte on my riythalf, til Y putte thin enemyes the stool of thi feet.
12:37	Thanne Dauid hym silf clepith him lord, hou thanne is he his sone? And myche puple gladli herde hym.
12:38	And he seide to hem in his techyng, Be ye war of scribis, that wolen wandre in stolis,
12:39	and be salutid in chepyng, and sitte in synagogis in the firste chaieris, and the firste sittyng placis in soperis;
12:40	whiche deuouren the housis of widewis vndur colour of long preier; thei schulen take the longer doom.
12:41	And Jhesus sittynge ayens the tresorie, bihelde hou the puple castide monei in to the tresorie; and many riche men castiden many thingis.
12:42	But whanne a pore widewe was comun, sche keste two mynutis, that is, a ferthing.
12:43	And he clepide togidere hise disciplis, and seide to hem, Treuli Y seie to you, that this pore widewe keste more thanne alle, that kesten in to the tresorie.
12:44	For alle kesten of that thing that thei hadden plente of; but this of her pouert keste alle thingis that sche hadde, al hir lyuelode.


12:1	And he began to speake vnto them in parables, A certaine man planted a vineyard, and copassed it with an hedge, and digged a pit for the winepresse, and built a tower in it, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a strange countrey.
12:2	And at the time, he sent to the husbandmen a seruant, that he might receiue of the husbandmen of the fruite of the vineyard.
12:3	But they tooke him, and beat him, and sent him away emptie.
12:4	And againe he sent vnto them another seruant, and at him they cast stones, and brake his head, and sent him away shamefully handled.
12:5	And againe he sent another, and him they slew, and many other, beating some, and killing some.
12:6	Yet had he one sonne, his deare beloued: him also he sent the last vnto them, saying, They will reuerence my sonne.
12:7	But ye husbandmen said among themselues, This is the heire: come, let vs kill him, and the inheritance shalbe ours.
12:8	So they tooke him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.
12:9	What shall then the Lord of the vineyard doe? He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and giue the vineyard to others.
12:10	Haue ye not read so much as this Scripture? The stone which the builders did refuse, is made the head of the corner.
12:11	This was done of the Lord, and it is marueilous in our eyes.
12:12	Then they went about to take him, but they feared the people: for they perceiued that he spake that parable against them: therefore they left him, and went their way.
12:13	And they sent vnto him certaine of the Pharises, and of ye Herodians that they might take him in his talke.
12:14	And when they came, they saide vnto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou considerest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God truely, Is it lawfull to giue tribute to Cesar, or not?
12:15	Should we giue it, or should we not giue it? but he knew their hypocrisie, and said vnto them, Why tempt ye me? Bring me a peny, that I may see it.
12:16	So they brought it, and he said vnto them, Whose is this image and superscription? and they said vnto him, Cesars.
12:17	Then Iesus answered, and saide vnto them, Giue to Cesar the things that are Cesars, and to God, those that are Gods: and they marueiled at him.
12:18	Then came the Sadduces vnto him, (which say, there is no resurrection) and they asked him, saying,
12:19	Master, Moses wrote vnto vs, If any mans brother die, and leaue his wife, and leaue no children, that his brother should take his wife, and rayse vp seede vnto his brother.
12:20	There were seuen brethren, and the first tooke a wife, and when he died, left no issue.
12:21	Then the seconde tooke her, and he died, neither did he yet leaue issue, and the third likewise:
12:22	So those seuen had her, and left no yssue: last of all the wife died also.
12:23	In the resurrection then, when they shall rise againe, whose wife shall she be of them? for seuen had her to wife.
12:24	Then Iesus answered, and saide vnto them, Are ye not therefore deceiued, because ye knowe not the Scriptures, neither the power of God?
12:25	For when they shall rise againe from the dead, neither men marry, nor wiues are married, but are as the Angels which are in heauen.
12:26	And as touching the dead, that they shall rise againe, haue ye not read in the booke of Moses, howe in the bush God spake vnto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob?
12:27	God is not ye God of the dead, but the God of the liuing. Ye are therefore greatly deceiued.
12:28	Then came one of the Scribes that had heard them disputing together, and perceiuing that he had answered them well, he asked him, Which is the first commandement of all?
12:29	Iesus answered him, The first of all the commandements is, Heare, Israel, The Lord our God is the onely Lord.
12:30	Thou shalt therefore loue the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soule, and with all thy minde, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandement.
12:31	And the second is like, that is, Thou shalt loue thy neighbour as thy selfe. There is none other commandement greater then these.
12:32	Then that Scribe said vnto him, Well, Master, thou hast saide the trueth, that there is one God, and that there is none but he,
12:33	And to loue him with all the heart, and with all the vnderstanding, and with all the soule, and with all the strength, and to loue his neighbour as himselfe, is more then all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
12:34	Then when Iesus saw that he answered discreetely, he saide vnto him, Thou art not farre from the kingdome of God. And no man after that durst aske him any question.
12:35	And Iesus answered and said teaching in the Temple, Howe say the Scribes that Christ is the sonne of Dauid?
12:36	For Dauid himselfe said by ye holy Ghost, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footestoole.
12:37	Then Dauid himselfe calleth him Lord: by what meanes is he then his sonne? and much people heard him gladly.
12:38	Moreouer he saide vnto them in his doctrine, Beware of the Scribes which loue to goe in long robes, and loue salutations in the markets,
12:39	And the chiefe seates in the Synagogues, and the first roumes at feastes,
12:40	Which deuoure widowes houses, euen vnder a colour of long prayers. These shall receiue the greater damnation.
12:41	And as Iesus sate ouer against the treasurie, he beheld how the people cast money into the treasurie, and many rich men cast in much.
12:42	And there came a certaine poore widowe, and she threw in two mites, which make a quadrin.
12:43	Then he called vnto him his disciples, and said vnto them, Verely I say vnto you, that this poore widowe hath cast more in, then all they which haue cast into the treasurie.
12:44	For they all did cast in of their superfluitie: but she of her pouertie did cast in all that she had, euen all her liuing.


12:1	Then He began to speak to them in parables: "A certain man planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a place for the grape juice vat and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country."
12:2	Now when the season came he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that he might receive some of the fruit of the vineyard from the vinedressers."
12:3	And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty handed."
12:4	So, again he sent them another servant, and they threw stones at him, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated."
12:5	And again he sent another, and him they killed; and many others, beating some and killing some."
12:6	Therefore still having one son, his dearly beloved, he also sent him to them last, saying, 'They shall reverence my son.'"
12:7	But those vinedressers said among themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'"
12:8	So they took him and killed him and cast him out of the vineyard."
12:9	"Therefore what shall the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the vinedressers, and give the vineyard to others."
12:10	Have you not even read this Scripture: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone."
12:11	This was the LORD'S doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?"
12:12	And they sought to lay hands on Him, but feared the people, because, they knew that He had spoken the parable against them. So they left Him and went their way.
12:13	Then they sent to Him some of the Pharisees and the Herodians, to catch Him in His words.
12:14	When they had come, they said to Him, "Teacher, we know that You are true, and esteem no one; because, You do not regard the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?
12:15	Should we give, or should we not give?" But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, "Why do you test Me? Bring Me a denarius that I may see it."
12:16	So they brought it. And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" They said to Him, "Caesar's."
12:17	And Jesus replied and said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they marveled at Him.
12:18	Then some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him; and they asked Him, saying:
12:19	"Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's brother dies, and leaves his wife behind, and leaves no children, that his brother should take his wife and raise up offspring for his brother.
12:20	Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife; and dying, he left no offspring.
12:21	And the second took her, and he died; nor did he leave any offspring. And the third likewise.
12:22	So the seven had her and left no offspring. Last of all the woman died also.
12:23	Therefore, in the resurrection, when they rise, whose wife shall she be? Because all seven had her as wife."
12:24	Jesus answered and said to them, "Are you not in error because of this, because, you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God?"
12:25	Because, when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like the angels who are in heaven."
12:26	But concerning the dead, that they rise, have you not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spoke to him, saying, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'?"
12:27	He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. You are greatly in error because of this."
12:28	Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, "Which is the first commandment of all?"
12:29	And Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments is: 'Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God is one LORD."
12:30	And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment."
12:31	And the second is similar, being this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
12:32	So the scribe said to Him, "Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, because there is one God, and there is no other but He.
12:33	And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is more than all of the entire burnt offerings and sacrifices."
12:34	Now when Jesus saw that he responded wisely, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." But after that no one dared ask Him any questions.
12:35	Then Jesus responded and said, while He taught in the temple, "How is it that the scribes say that Christ is the Son of David?"
12:36	Because David himself said by the Holy Spirit: 'The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool."'
12:37	Therefore David himself calls Him 'Lord'; how is He then his Son?" And the common people heard Him gladly.
12:38	Then He said to them in His doctrine, "Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces,"
12:39	the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts,"
12:40	who devour widows' houses, and for an exhibition make long prayers. These will receive greater damnation."
12:41	Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much.
12:42	Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans.
12:43	So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, "Truly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given into the treasury;"
12:44	because, they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, even her entire livelihood."
