2:1	And it chaunced in those dayes: that there wente out a commaundemente from Auguste the Emperour, that al the worlde should be taxed.
2:2	And this taxynge was the fyrste, and executed when Syrenius was lieftenaunt in Siria.
2:3	And euerye man wente into his owne citye to be taxed.
2:4	And Ioseph also ascended from Galyle: out of a cytye called Nazareth, into Iury: vnto the citye of Dauid which is called Bethleem, because he was of the house and lynage of Dauid,
2:5	to be taxed with Marye his spoused wyfe whiche was with childe.
2:6	And it fortuned whyle they were there, her tyme was come that she shoulde be deliuered.
2:7	And she brought forth her first begotten sonne, and wrapped him in swadlynge clothes, and layed him in a maunger, because ther was no roume for them within the ynne.
2:8	And there were in the same region shepherdes abydinge in the fyelde, and watchinge theyr flocke by night.
2:9	And lo: the aungel of the Lord stode harde by them, and the brightnes of the Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afrayed.
2:10	But the aungel sayde vnto them: Be not afrayed. For beholde, I bringe you tydinges of greate ioye that shall come to al the people:
2:11	for vnto you is borne this day in the citye of Dauid, a sauioure whiche is Christe the Lorde.
2:12	And take this for a sygne: ye shall fynde the chylde swadled and layed in a maunger.
2:13	And strayght waye there was with the aungel a multitude of heauenly souldiours, laudinge God and sayinge:
2:14	Glory to God on hye, and peace on the earth: and vnto men reioysynge.
2:15	And it fortuned, assone as the aungels were gone awaye from them into heauen, the shepherdes sayed one to another: let vs go euen vnto Bethleem & se this thing that is happened which the Lorde hath shewed vnto vs.
2:16	And they came with haste: and founde Mary and Ioseph and the babe layed in a maunger.
2:17	And when they had sene it, they published abroade the sayinge which was tolde them of that chylde.
2:18	And all that heard it, wondered at those thinges whiche were tolde them of the shepherdes.
2:19	But Mary kept all those sayinges, and pondered them in her herte.
2:20	And the shepherdes retourned, praisynge and lauding God for all that they had hearde and sene, euen as it was tolde vnto them.
2:21	And when the eyght daye was come, that the chylde shoulde be circuncysed, his name was called Iesus, which was named of the aungell before he was conceyued in the wombe.
2:22	And when the tyme of their puryfycacion (after the lawe of Moyses) was come, they brought him to Ierusalem, to presente hym to the Lorde
2:23	(as it is wryttem in the lawe of the Lorde: euerye male that fyrst openeth the mattrix, shall be called holye to the Lord)
2:24	and to offer (as it is sayde in the lawe of the Lorde) a payre of turtel doues or two yonge pygyons.
2:25	And beholde ther was a man in Hierusalem whose name was Symeon. And the same man was iuste and feared God, and longed for the consolacion of Israel and the holye ghost was in him.
2:26	And an aunswere was geuen him of the holye ghost, that he shoulde not se death, before he had sene the Lordes Christe.
2:27	And he came by inspiration into the tempell. And when the father and mother broughte in the childe Iesus, to do for him after the custome of the lawe,
2:28	then toke he him vp in hys armes and sayed.
2:29	Lorde. Nowe lettest thou thy seruaunt departe in peace, accordinge to thy promes.
2:30	For mine eyes haue sene the sauiour sent from the.
2:31	Which thou hast prepare before the face of all people.
2:32	A lyght to lighten the gentils and the glorye of thy people Israel.
2:33	And his father and mother meruayled at those thinges which were spoken of him.
2:34	And Symon blessed them, & sayd vnto Mary his mother: beholde, this chylde shalbe the fal and resurrection of manye in Israel, & sygne which shalbe spoken againste.
2:35	And moreouer the swearde shall pearce thy soule, that the thoughtes of manye hertes maye be opened.
2:36	And ther was a prophetesse, one Anna the doughter of Phanuell of the trybe of Aser which was of a great age, and had liued with her housbande .vij. yeares from her virginitie.
2:37	And she had bene a weddowe aboute .iiij. score and .iiij. yeares, which went neuer out of the temple, but serued God with fastinge and prayer night & daye.
2:38	And the same came forth that same houre and praysed the Lorde and spake of him to all that loked for redempcion in Ierusalem.
2:39	And assone as they had perfourmed al thynges accordynge to the lawe of the Lorde they retourned into Galyle to their owne cytye Nazareth.
2:40	And the chylde grewe & waxed stronge in spyryte, and was fylled wyth wisdome, & the grace of God was with him.
2:41	And his father and mother went to Hierusalem euerye yeare at the feaste of easter.
2:42	And when he was .xij. yeare olde, they went vp to Ierusalem after the custome of the feaste.
2:43	And when they had fulfilled the dayes, as they returned home, the chylde Iesus bode styll in Ierusalem vnknowinge to his father and mother.
2:44	For they supposed he had bene in the company, and therfore came a dayes iorneye and sought him amonge their kinsfolke and acquaintaunce.
2:45	And when thei founde him not, they went backe againe to Ierusalem, & sought hym.
2:46	And it fortuned after thre dayes that they founde him in the tempell, syttynge in the middes of the doctours, both hearynge them and posynge them.
2:47	And all that hearde him, meruaylled at his wit and aunswers.
2:48	And when they sawe him, they were astonyed. And his mother sayde vnto him: sonne, why hast thou thus dealt with vs? Beholde thy father and I haue sought the, sorowing.
2:49	And he sayed vnto them: howe is it that ye sought me? Wyst ye not that I must go about my fathers busynes?
2:50	And they vnderstode not the sayinge that he spake to them.
2:51	And he went with them, and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them: But his mother kepte al these sayinges in her herte.
2:52	And Iesus increased in wisdome and age, and in fauoure with God and man.

2:2	(This first taxing was made when Cyrenius was gouernour of Syria.)
2:3	Therefore went all to be taxed, euery man to his owne Citie.
2:4	And Ioseph also went vp from Galile out of a citie called Nazareth, into Iudea, vnto the citie of Dauid, which is called Beth-leem (because he was of the house and linage of Dauid,)
2:5	To bee taxed with Marie that was giuen him to wife, which was with childe.
2:6	And so it was, that while they were there, the daies were accomplished that shee shoulde be deliuered,
2:7	And she brought foorth her first begotten sonne, and wrapped him in swadling clothes, and laide him in a cratch, because there was no roome for them in the ynne.
2:8	And there were in the same countrey shepheards, abiding in the fielde, and keeping watch by night ouer their flocke.
2:9	And loe, the Angel of the Lord came vpon them, and the glorie of the Lord shone about them, and they were sore afraide.
2:10	Then the Angel saide vnto them, Be not afraid: for behold, I bring you glad tidings of great ioy, that shalbe to all the people,
2:11	That is, that vnto you is borne this day in the citie of Dauid, a Sauiour, which is Christ the Lord.
2:12	And this shalbe a signe to you, Yee shall finde the babe swadled, and laid in a cratch.
2:13	And straightway there was with the Angel a multitude of heauenly souldiers, praising God, and saying,
2:14	Glory be to God in the high heauens, and peace in earth, and towards men good will.
2:15	And it came to passe whe the Angels were gone away from them into heauen, that the shepheards sayde one to another, Let vs goe then vnto Beth-leem, and see this thing that is come to passe which the Lord hath shewed vnto vs.
2:16	So they came with haste, and founde both Marie and Ioseph, and the babe laid in the cratch.
2:17	And when they had seene it, they published abroade the thing, that was tolde them of that childe.

2:21	And when the eight daies were accomplished, that they shoulde circumcise the childe, his name was then called Iesus, which was named of the Angell, before he was conceiued in the wombe.
2:22	And when the daies of her purification after the Lawe of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Hierusalem, to present him to the Lord,
2:23	(As it is written in the Lawe of the Lord, Euery man childe that first openeth ye wombe, shalbe called holy to the Lord)
2:24	And to giue an oblation, as it is commanded in the Lawe of the Lord, a paire of turtle doues, or two yong pigeons.
2:25	And behold, there was a man in Hierusalem, whose name was Simeon: this man was iust, and feared God, and waited for the consolation of Israel, and the holy Ghost was vpon him.
2:26	And it was declared to him from God by the holy Ghost, that he shoulde not see death, before he had seene that Anointed of the Lord.
2:27	And he came by the motion of the spirit into the Temple, and when the parents brought in the babe Iesus, to do for him after the custome of the Lawe,
2:28	Then hee tooke him in his armes, and praised God, and sayd,
2:29	Lord, nowe lettest thou thy seruaunt depart in peace, according to thy woorde,
2:30	For mine eyes haue seene thy saluation,
2:31	Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people,
2:32	A light to be reueiled to the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
2:33	And Ioseph and his mother marueiled at those things, which were spoken touching him.
2:34	And Simeon blessed them, and saide vnto Mary his mother, Beholde, this childe is appointed for the fall and rising againe of many in Israel, and for a signe which shalbe spoken against,
2:35	(Yea and a sworde shall pearce through thy soule) that the thoughts of many heartes may be opened.
2:36	And there was a Prophetesse, one Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser, which was of a great age, after she had liued with an husband seuen yeeres from her virginitie:
2:37	And she was widowe about foure score and foure yeeres, and went not out of the Temple, but serued God with fastings and prayers, night and day.
2:38	She then coming at the same instant vpon them, confessed likewise the Lord, and spake of him to all that looked for redemption in Hierusalem.
2:39	And when they had performed all thinges according to the lawe of the Lord, they returned into Galile to their owne citie Nazareth.
2:40	And the childe grewe, and waxed strong in Spirit, and was filled with wisedome, and the grace of God was with him.
2:41	Nowe his parents went to Hierusalem euery yeere, at the feast of the Passeouer.
2:42	And when hee was twelue yeere olde, and they were come vp to Hierusalem, after the custome of the feast,
2:43	And had finished the dayes thereof, as they returned, the childe Iesus remained in Hierusalem, and Ioseph knew not, nor his mother,
2:44	But they supposing, that he had bene in the company, went a dayes iourney, and sought him among their kinsfolke, and acquaintance.
2:45	And when they found him not, they turned backe to Hierusalem, and sought him.
2:46	And it came to passe three dayes after, that they found him in the Temple, sitting in the mids of the doctours, both hearing them, and asking them questions:
2:47	And all that heard him, were astonied at his vnderstanding and answeres.
2:48	So when they sawe him, they were amased, and his mother said vnto him, Sonne, why hast thou thus dealt with vs? beholde, thy father and I haue sought thee with very heauie hearts.
2:49	Then said he vnto them, Howe is it that ye sought me? knewe ye not that I must goe about my Fathers busines?
2:50	But they vnderstoode not the word that he spake to them.
2:51	Then hee went downe with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subiect to them: and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
2:52	And Iesus increased in wisedome, and stature, and in fauour with God and men.

2:49	And he said vnto them, How is it that ye sought me? Wist yee not that I must bee about my fathers businesse?
2:50	And they vnderstood not the saying which he spake vnto them.
2:51	And he went downe with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subiect vnto them: But his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
2:52	And Iesus increased in wisedom and stature, and in fauour with God and man.
