4:1And Iesus full of the holy Ghost returned from Iordan, and was led by that Spirit into the wildernes,
4:2And was there fourtie dayes tempted of the deuil, and in those dayes he did eate nothing: but when they were ended, he afterward was hungry.
4:3Then the deuil saide vnto him, If thou be the Sonne of God, commaund this stone that it be made bread.
4:4But Iesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not liue by bread only, but by euery word of God.
4:5Then the deuill tooke him vp into an high mountaine, and shewed him all the kingdomes of the world, in the twinkeling of an eye.
4:6And the deuill saide vnto him, All this power will I giue thee, and the glory of those kingdomes: for that is deliuered to mee: and to whomsoeuer I will, I giue it.
4:7If thou therefore wilt worship mee, they shalbe all thine.
4:8But Iesus answered him, and saide, Hence from mee, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him alone thou shalt serue.
4:9Then hee brought him to Hierusalem, and set him on a pinacle of the Temple, and said vnto him, If thou be the Sonne of God, cast thy selfe downe from hence,
4:10For it is written, That hee will giue his Angels charge ouer thee to keepe thee:
4:11And with their handes they shall lift thee vp, least at any time thou shouldest dash thy foote against a stone.
4:12And Iesus answered, and said vnto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
4:13And when the deuil had ended all the tentation, he departed from him for a litle season.
4:14And Iesus returned by the power of the spirite into Galile: and there went a fame of him throughout all the region round about.
4:15For he taught in their Synagogues, and was honoured of all men.
4:16And hee came to Nazareth where hee had bene brought vp, and (as his custome was) went into the Synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stoode vp to reade.
4:17And there was deliuered vnto him the booke of the Prophet Esaias: and when hee had opened the booke, hee founde the place, where it was written,
4:18The Spirit of the Lord is vpon mee, because he hath anoynted me, that I should preach the Gospel to the poore: he hath sent mee, that I should heale the broken hearted, that I should preach deliuerance to the captiues, and recouering of sight to the blinde, that I should set at libertie them that are bruised:
4:19And that I should preache the acceptable yeere of the Lord.
4:20And hee closed the booke, and gaue it againe to the minister, and sate downe: and the eyes of all that were in the Synagogue were fastened on him.
4:21Then he began to say vnto them, This day is the Scripture fulfilled in your eares.
4:22And all bare him witnes, and wondered at the gracious wordes, which proceeded out of his mouth, and said, Is not this Iosephs sonne?
4:23Then he said vnto them, Ye will surely say vnto mee this prouerbe, Physician, heale thy selfe: whatsoeuer we haue heard done in Capernaum, doe it here likewise in thine owne countrey.
4:24And he saide, Verely I say vnto you, No Prophet is accepted in his owne countrey.
4:25But I tell you of a trueth, many widowes were in Israel in the dayes of Elias, when heauen was shut three yeres and sixe moneths, when great famine was throughout all the land:
4:26But vnto none of them was Elias sent, saue into Sarepta, a citie of Sidon, vnto a certaine widowe.
4:27Also many lepers were in Israel, in the time of Eliseus the Prophet: yet none of them was made cleane, sauing Naaman the Syrian.
4:28Then all that were in the Synagogue, when they heard it, were filled with wrath,
4:29And rose vp, and thrust him out of the citie, and led him vnto the edge of the hil, whereon their citie was built, to cast him downe headlong.
4:30But he passed through the middes of them, and went his way,
4:31And came downe into Capernaum a citie of Galile, and there taught them on the Sabbath dayes.
4:32And they were astonied at his doctrine: for his worde was with authoritie.
4:33And in the Synagogue there was a man which had a spirit of an vncleane deuill, which cryed with a loude voyce,
4:34Saying, Oh, what haue we to doe with thee, thou Iesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy vs? I know who thou art, euen the holy one of God.
4:35And Iesus rebuked him, saying, Holde thy peace, and come out of him. Then the deuill throwing him in the middes of them, came out of him, and hurt him nothing at all.
4:36So feare came on them all, and they spake among themselues, saying, What thing is this: for with authoritie and power he commaundeth the foule spirits, and they come out?
4:37And ye fame of him spred abroad throughout all the places of the countrey round about.
4:38And he rose vp, and came out of the Synagogue, and entred into Simons house. And Simons wiues mother was taken with a great feuer, and they required him for her.
4:39Then he stoode ouer her, and rebuked the feuer, and it left her, and immediatly she arose, and ministred vnto them.
4:40Now at the sunne setting, all they that had sicke folkes of diuers diseases, brought them vnto him, and he layd his hands on euery one of them, and healed them.
4:41And deuils also came out of many, crying, and saying, Thou art that Christ that Sonne of God: but he rebuked them, and suffered them not to say that they knewe him to be that Christ.
4:42And when it was day, he departed, and went foorth into a desart place, and the people sought him, and came to him, and kept him that he should not depart from them.
4:43But he sayd vnto them, Surely I must also preach the kingdome of God to other cities: for therefore am I sent.
4:44And hee preached in the Synagogues of Galile.

4:1Iesus then full of the holy goost returnyd fro Iordan and was caryed of ye sprete into wildernes
4:2and was .xl. dayes tempted of the devyll. And in thoose dayes ate he no thinge. And when they were ended he afterward hongred.
4:3And the devyll sayde vnto him: yf thou be the sonne of God comaunde this stone yt it be breed.
4:4And Iesus answered hym sayinge: It is writte: man shall not live by breed only but by every worde of God.
4:5And ye devyll toke him vp into an hye moutayne and shewed him all the kyngdoms of the worlde eve in ye twincklinge of an eye.
4:6And ye devyll sayde vnto him: all this power will I geve ye every whit and the glory of the: for yt is delyvered to me and to whosoever I will I geve it.
4:7Yf thou therfore wilt worshippe me they shalbe all thyne.
4:8Iesus answered him and sayde: hence from me Sathan. For it is written: Thou shalt honour the Lorde thy God and him only serve.
4:9And he caryed him to Ierusalem and set him on a pynacle of the temple and sayd vnto him: Yf thou be the sonne of God cast thy silfe doune from hens.
4:10For it is written he shall geve his angels charge over the to kepe the
4:11and with there hondis they shall stey the vp that thou dasshe not thy fote agaynst a stone.
4:12Iesus answered and sayde to him it is sayd: thou shalt not tempte the Lorde thy God.
4:13Assone as the devyll had ended all his temptacions he departed from him for a season.
4:14And Iesus retourned by the power of ye sprete in to Galile and there went a fame of him thorowe oute all the regio roude aboute.
4:15And he taught in their synagoges and was commended of all men.
4:16And he came to Nazareth where he was noursed and as hys custome was went in to the synagoge on the Saboth dayes and stode vp for to rede.
4:17And ther was delyvered vnto him ye boke of ye Prophete Esaias. And when he had opened the boke he founde the place where it was written.
4:18The sprete of the lorde vpon me because he hath annoynted me: to preache ye gospell to ye poore he hath sent me: and to heale the broken harted: to preache delyverauce to the captive and sight to the blinde and frely to set at lyberte them that are brused
4:19and to preache the acceptable yeare of the Lorde.
4:20And he cloosed the booke and gave it agayne to the minister and sate doune. And the eyes of all that were in the synagoge were fastened on him.
4:21And he began to saye vnto them. This daye is this scripture fulfilled in youre eares.
4:22And all bare him witnes and wondred at the gracious wordes which proceded oute of his mouth and sayde: Is not this Iosephs sonne?
4:23And he sayde vnto them: Ye maye very well saye vnto me this proverbe: Phisicion heale thy silfe. Whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum do the same here lyke wyse in thyne awne countre.
4:24And he sayde verely I saye vnto you: No Prophet is accepted in his awne countre.
4:25But I tell you of a truth many wyddowes were in Israell in the dayes of Helias when hevyn was shet thre yeres and syxe monethes when greate fammisshemet was throughoute all the londe
4:26and vnto none of them was Helias sent save in to Sarephta besydes Sidon vnto a woma that was a widow.
4:27And many lepers were in Israel in the tyme of Heliseus the Prophete: and yet none of them was healed savinge Naaman of Siria.
4:28And as many as were in ye sinagoge when they herde that were filled with wrath:
4:29and roose vp and thrust him oute of the cite and ledde him eve vnto the edge of the hill wher on their cite was bilte to cast him doune hedlynge.
4:30But he went his waye eve thorow the myddes of them:
4:31and came in to Capernaum a cyte of Galile and there taught the on the Saboth dayes.
4:32And they were astonyed at his doctrine: for his preachige was wt power.
4:33And in the synagoge ther was a ma which had a sprete of an vncleane devell and cryed with aloude voyce
4:34sayinge: let me alone what hast thou to do with vs thou Iesus of Nazareth? Arte thou come to destroye vs? I knowe the what thou arte eve the holy of God.
4:35And Iesus rebuked him sayinge: holde thy peace and come oute of him. And the devyll threwe him in the myddes of them and came oute of him and hurt him not.
4:36And feare came on them all and they spake amonge them selves sayinge: what maner a thinge is this? For with auctorite and power he commaundeth the foule spretes and they come out?
4:37And ye fame of him spreed abroode thorowoute all places of the countre round aboute.
4:38And he roose vp and came oute of ye sinagoge and entred in to Simons housse. And Simos motherelawe was take with a greate fever and they made intercession to him for her.
4:39And he stode over her and rebuked the fever: and it leeft her. And immediatly she arose and ministred vnto them.
4:40When the sonne was doune all they that had sicke take with divers deseases brought them vnto him: and he layde his hondes on every one of them and healed them.
4:41And devils also cam out of many of them crying and saying: thou arte Christ the sonne of God. And he rebuked them and suffered them not to speake: for they knewe that he was Christ.
4:42Assone as it was daye he departed and went awaye into a desert place and ye people sought him and came to him and kept him that he shuld not departe from the.
4:43And he sayde vnto the: I muste to other cities also preache the kyngdome of God: for therfore am I sent.
