7:1 | And when he completed all his sayings in the ears of the people, he went into Capernaum; |
7:2 | and a certain centurion's servant being ill, was about to die, who was much valued by him, |
7:3 | and having heard about Jesus, he sent unto him elders of the Jews, beseeching him, that having come he might thoroughly save his servant. |
7:4 | And they, having come near unto Jesus, were calling upon him earnestly, saying -- `He is worthy to whom thou shalt do this, |
7:5 | for he doth love our nation, and the synagogue he did build to us.' |
7:6 | And Jesus was going on with them, and now when he is not far distant from the house the centurion sent unto him friends, saying to him, `Sir, be not troubled, for I am not worthy that under my roof thou mayest enter; |
7:7 | wherefore not even myself thought I worthy to come unto thee, but say in a word, and my lad shall be healed; |
7:8 | for I also am a man placed under authority, having under myself soldiers, and I say to this `one', Go, and he goeth; and to another, Be coming, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doth `it'.' |
7:9 | And having heard these things Jesus wondered at him, and having turned to the multitude following him, he said, `I say to you, not even in Israel so much faith did I find;' |
7:10 | and those sent, having turned back to the house, found the ailing servant in health. |
7:11 | And it came to pass, on the morrow, he was going on to a city called Nain, and there were going with him many of his disciples, and a great multitude, |
7:12 | and as he came nigh to the gate of the city, then, lo, one dead was being carried forth, an only son of his mother, and she a widow, and a great multitude of the city was with her. |
7:13 | And the Lord having seen her, was moved with compassion towards her, and said to her, `Be not weeping;' |
7:14 | and having come near, he touched the bier, and those bearing `it' stood still, and he said, `Young man, to thee I say, Arise;' |
7:15 | and the dead sat up, and began to speak, and he gave him to his mother; |
7:16 | and fear took hold of all, and they were glorifying God, saying -- `A great prophet hath risen among us,' and -- `God did look upon His people.' |
7:17 | And the account of this went forth in all Judea about him, and in all the region around. |
7:18 | And the disciples of John told him about all these things, |
7:19 | and John having called near a certain two of his disciples, sent unto Jesus, saying, `Art thou he who is coming, or for another do we look?' |
7:20 | And having come near to him, the men said, `John the Baptist sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he who is coming, or for another do we look?' |
7:21 | And in that hour he cured many from sicknesses, and plagues, and evil spirits, and to many blind he granted sight. |
7:22 | And Jesus answering said to them, `Having gone on, report to John what ye saw and heard, that blind men do see again, lame do walk, lepers are cleansed, deaf do hear, dead are raised, poor have good news proclaimed; |
7:23 | and happy is he whoever may not be stumbled in me.' |
7:24 | And the messengers of John having gone away, he began to say unto the multitudes concerning John: `What have ye gone forth to the wilderness to look on? a reed by the wind shaken? |
7:25 | but what have ye gone forth to see? a man in soft garments clothed? lo, they in splendid apparellings, and living in luxury, are in the houses of kings! |
7:26 | `But what have ye gone forth to see? a prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet: |
7:27 | this is he concerning whom it hath been written, Lo, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee; |
7:28 | for I say to you, a greater prophet, among those born of women, than John the Baptist there is not; but the least in the reign of God is greater than he.' |
7:29 | And all the people having heard, and the tax-gatherers, declared God righteous, having been baptized with the baptism of John, |
7:30 | but the Pharisees, and the lawyers, the counsel of God did put away for themselves, not having been baptized by him. |
7:31 | And the Lord said, `To what, then, shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like? |
7:32 | they are like to children, to those sitting in a market-place, and calling one to another, and saying, We piped to you, and ye did not dance, we mourned to you, and ye did not weep! |
7:33 | `For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and ye say, He hath a demon; |
7:34 | the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and ye say, Lo, a man, a glutton, and a wine drinker, a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners; |
7:35 | and the wisdom was justified from all her children.' |
7:36 | And a certain one of the Pharisees was asking him that he might eat with him, and having gone into the house of the Pharisee he reclined (at meat), |
7:37 | and lo, a woman in the city, who was a sinner, having known that he reclineth (at meat) in the house of the Pharisee, having provided an alabaster box of ointment, |
7:38 | and having stood behind, beside his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with the tears, and with the hairs of her head she was wiping, and was kissing his feet, and was anointing with the ointment. |
7:39 | And the Pharisee who did call him, having seen, spake within himself, saying, `This one, if he were a prophet, would have known who and of what kind `is' the woman who doth touch him, that she is a sinner.' |
7:40 | And Jesus answering said unto him, `Simon, I have something to say to thee;' and he saith, `Teacher, say on.' |
7:41 | `Two debtors were to a certain creditor; the one was owing five hundred denaries, and the other fifty; |
7:42 | and they not having `wherewith' to give back, he forgave both; which then of them, say thou, will love him more?' |
7:43 | And Simon answering said, `I suppose that to whom he forgave the more;' and he said to him, `Rightly thou didst judge.' |
7:44 | And having turned unto the woman, he said to Simon, `Seest thou this woman? I entered into thy house; water for my feet thou didst not give, but this woman with tears did wet my feet, and with the hairs of her head did wipe; |
7:45 | a kiss to me thou didst not give, but this woman, from what `time' I came in, did not cease kissing my feet; |
7:46 | with oil my head thou didst not anoint, but this woman with ointment did anoint my feet; |
7:47 | therefore I say to thee, her many sins have been forgiven, because she did love much; but to whom little is forgiven, little he doth love.' |
7:48 | And he said to her, `Thy sins have been forgiven;' |
7:49 | and those reclining with him (at meat) began to say within themselves, `Who is this, who also doth forgive sins?' |
7:50 | and he said unto the woman, `Thy faith have saved thee, be going on to peace.' |

7:6 | And Iesus went with them. And when he was not farre fro the housse the Centurio sent frendes to him sayinge vnto him: Lorde trouble not thy silfe: for I am not worthy yt thou shuldest enter vnder my roffe. |
7:7 | Wherfore I thought not my silfe worthy to come vnto the: but saye the worde and my servaunt shalbe whoole. |
7:8 | For I lyke wyse am a man vnder power and have vnder me soudiers and I saye vnto won goo: and he goeth. And to another come: and he cometh. And to my servaunt do this: and he doeth it. |
7:9 | When Iesus herde this he merveyled at him and turned him about and sayd to the people that folowed him: I saye vnto you I have not founde so greate faith noo not in Israel. |
7:10 | And they yt were sent turned backe home agayne and founde the servaunt that was sicke whoole. |
7:11 | And it fortuned after that that he went into a cite called Naim and many of his disciples went wt him and moche people. |
7:12 | When he came nye to the gate of the cite: beholde ther was a deed man caried out which was ye only sonne of his mother and she was a widowe and moche people of the cite was with her. |
7:13 | And when ye lorde sawe her he had compassion on her and sayde vnto her: wepe not. |
7:14 | And he went and touched the coffyn and they yt bare him stode still. And he sayde: Yonge man I saye vnto the aryse. |
7:15 | And ye deed sate vp and beganne to speake. And he delyvered him to his mother. |
7:16 | And ther ca a feare on the all. And they glorified god sayinge: a greate prophet is rysen amoge vs and god hath visited his people |
7:17 | And this rumor of him wet forthe throughout all Iurie and thorowout all the regions which lye rounde about. |
7:18 | And ye disciples of Iohn shewed him of all these thinges. |
7:19 | And Iohn called vnto him .ii. of his disciples and sent the to Iesus sayinge: Arte thou he that shall come: or shall we loke for another? |
7:20 | When the men were come vnto him they sayde: Iohn baptiste sent vs vnto ye sayinge: Arte thou he that shall come: or shall we wayte for another? |
7:21 | And at yt same tyme he cured many of their infirmites and plages and of evyll spretes and vnto many that were blynde he gave sight |
7:22 | And Iesus answered and sayd vnto them: Goo youre wayes and shewe Iohn what thinges ye have sene and harde: how yt the blynde se the halt goo the lepers are clensed the deafe heare the deed aryse to the poore is the glad tydinges preached |
7:23 | and happy is he that is not offended by me. |
7:24 | When ye messengers of Iohn were departed he began to speake vnto ye people of Iohn What wet ye oute into ye wildernes for to se? went ye to se arede shaken wt ye wynde? |
7:25 | But what went ye out for tose? A ma clothed in soofte rayment? Beholde they which are gorgeously apparelled and lyve delicatly are in kynges courtes. |
7:26 | But what went ye forth to se? A prophete? Ye I saye to you and moare then a prophete |
7:27 | This is he of who it is wrytte: Beholde I sende my messenger before thy face to prepare thy waye before the. |
7:28 | For I saye vnto you: a greater prophete then Iohn amoge wemes chyldre is ther none. Neverthelesse one yt is lesse in ye kyngdo of god is greater the he |
7:29 | And all the people that hearde and the publicans iustified God and were baptised with the baptim of Iohn. |
7:30 | But the pharises and scribes despised ye counsell of god agaynst them selves and were not baptised of him. |
7:31 | And ye lorde sayd: Wher vnto shall I lyke the men of this generacion and what thinge are they lyke? |
7:32 | They are lyke vnto chyldre sittynge in ye market place and cryinge one to another and sayinge: We have pyped vnto you and ye hahave not daunsed: we have mourned to you and ye have not wept. |
7:33 | For Iohn baptist cam nether eatynge breed ner drinkynge wyne and ye saye: he hath the devyll. |
7:34 | The sonne of man is come and eateth and drinketh and ye saye: beholde a man which is a glotton and a drinker of wyne a frende of publicans and synners. |
7:35 | Yet is wysdome iustified of all her chyldren. |
7:36 | And one of the pharises desyred him that he wolde eate with him. And he went into ye pharises housse and sate doune to meate. |
7:37 | And beholde a woman in that cite which was a synner assone as she knewe that. Iesus sate at meate in the pharises housse she brought an alablaster boxe of oyntmet |
7:38 | and she stode at his fete behynde him wepynge and beganne to wesshe his fete with teares and dyd wipe the with the heares of her heed and kyssed his fete and anoynted them with oyntment. |
7:39 | When the pharise which bade him sawe that he spake with in him sylfe sayinge: If this man were a prophete he wolde surely have knowen who and what maner woman this is which toucheth him for she is a synner. |
7:40 | And Iesus answered and sayde vnto him: Simon I have some what to saye vnto ye. And he sayd master saye on. |
7:41 | There was a certayne lender which had two detters ye one ought five hondred pence and the other fyfty. |
7:42 | When they had nothinge to paye he forgave the boothe. Which of them tell me will love him moost? |
7:43 | Simon answered and sayde: I suppose that he to whom he forgave moost. And he sayde vnto him: Thou hast truly iudged. |
7:44 | And he turned to the woman and sayde vnto Simon: Seist thou this woman? I entred into thy housse and thou gavest me noo water to my fete but she hath wesshed my fete with teares and wiped the with the heeres of her heed. |
7:45 | Thou gavest me no kysse: but she sence ye tyme I came in hath not ceased to kysse my fete |
7:46 | Myne heed wt oyle thou dydest not anoynte: but she hath annoynted my fete wt oyntmet. |
7:47 | Wherefore I saye vnto the: many synnes are forgeve her for she loved moche. To whom lesse is forgeven the same doeth lesse love. |
7:48 | And he sayde vnto her thy synnes are forgeven ye |
7:49 | And they yt sate at meate with him beganne to saye within them selves: Who is this which forgeveth synnes also? |
7:50 | And he sayde to ye woman: Thy faith hath saved the Goo in peace. |

7:5 | for he loueth oure people, & hath buylded vs ye synagoge. |
7:6 | And Iesus wente wt them.Now whan they were not farre from ye house, ye captaine sent fredes vnto hi, saiege vnto him: Oh LORDE, trouble not thy self, I am not worthy, yt thou shuldest enter vnder my rofe, |
7:7 | and therfore I thought not my self worthy to come to ye: but speake ye worde, & my seruaut shalbe whole. |
7:8 | For I my self also am a ma, subiecte to the hygher auctorite, & haue soudyers vnder me. And I saye vnto one: Go, & he goeth. And to another: Come, & he cometh. And to my seruaut: Do this, & he doeth it. |
7:9 | Whan Iesus herde yt, he marueyled at hi, & turned him aboute, & sayde vnto ye people yt folowed hi: I saye vnto you: So greate faith haue I not founde, no not in Israel. |
7:10 | And wha they that were sent, came home agayne, they founde the seruaut that was sicke, whole. |
7:11 | And it fortuned afterwarde, that he wete in to a cite called Naim, and many of his disciples wente with him, and moch people. |
7:12 | Whan he came nye to the gate of the cite, beholde, there was caried out one deed, which was the onely sonne of his mother, and she was a wyddowe, and moch people of the cite wente with her. |
7:13 | And whan the LORDE sawe her, he had copassion on her, and sayde vnto her: Wepe not. |
7:14 | And he came nye, and touched the Coffyn. And they that bare him, stode styll. And he sayde: Yonge man, I saye vnto the: Aryse. |

7:20 | Whan the men came to him, they sayde: Ihon ye baptist hath sent vs vnto the, sayenge: Art thou he that shal come, or shal we loke for another? |
7:21 | At the same houre healed he many from sicknesses & plages, and fro euell spretes, and vnto many that were blynde, he gaue sight. |
7:22 | And Iesus answered, & sayde vnto the: Go yor waye, shewe Ihon, what ye haue sene & herde. The blynde se, the halt go, the lepers are clensed, the deaf heare, the deed aryse, the Gospell is preached vnto ye poore, |
7:23 | and blessed is he, that is not offended at me. |
7:24 | Whan the messaungers of Iho were departed, Iesus begane to speake vnto ye people cocernynge Iho: What are ye gone out for to se in ye wyldernesse? Wolde ye se a rede, that is shake wt the wynde? |
7:25 | Or what are ye gone out for to se? Wolde ye se a ma clothed in soft rayment? Beholde, they that are gorgiously arayed, & lyue delycately, are in kynges courtes. |
7:26 | Or what are ye gone out for to se? Wolde ye se a prophet? Yee I saye vnto you: one that is more the a prophet. |
7:27 | This is he, of whom it is wrytten: Beholde, I sende my messaunger before yi face, which shal prepare thy waye before the. |
7:28 | For I saye vnto you: Amonge the yt are borne of weme, there is no greater prophet the Ihon the baptist. Notwith stondynge he that is lesse in the kyngdome of God, is greater then he. |
7:29 | And all the people that herde him, and ye publicans, iustified God, and were baptysed with the baptyme of Ihon. |
7:30 | But the Pharises and scrybes despysed ye councell of God against theselues, & were not baptised of hi. |
7:31 | But the LORDE saide: Where vnto shal I licken the men of this generacion? And whom are they like? |
7:32 | They are like vnto childre which syt in the market, and crye one to another, and saye: We haue pyped vnto you, and ye haue not daunsed: we haue mourned vnto you, & ye haue not wepte. |
7:33 | For Ihon ye baptist came, and ate no bred, and drake no wyne, and ye saye: he hath ye deuell. |
7:34 | The sonne of man is come, eateth and drynketh, & ye saye: This man is a glutton and a wyne bebber, a frende of publicans and synners. |
7:35 | And wyssdome is iustified of all hir children. |
7:36 | And one of the Pharises desyred him, yt he wolde eate with him. And he wente in to the Pharises house, and sat him downe at ye table. |
7:37 | And beholde, there was in the cite a woma, which was a synner. Whe she knewe that Iesus sat at the table in the Pharises house, she brought a boxe with oyntment, |
7:38 | & stode behynde at his fete, and wepte, and beganne to water his fete with teares, and to drye the wt the hayres of hir heade, and kyssed his fete, & anoynted the with oyntmet. |
7:39 | But whan the Pharise which had called him sawe that, he spake within himself, and sayde: Yf this ma were a prophet, he wolde knowe who, & what maner of woman this is that toucheth him, for she is a synner. |
7:40 | And Iesus answered, and saide vnto him: Simo, I haue somewhat to saye vnto the. He sayde: Master saye on. |
7:41 | A certayne lender had two detters, the one ought fyue hundreth pens, the other fiftie: |
7:42 | but whan they had nothinge to paye, he forgaue the both. Tell me which of them wyl loue him most? |
7:43 | Symon answered, and sayde: He, (I suppose) to who he forgaue most. Then sayde he vnto him: Thou hast iudged right. |
7:44 | And he turned him to the woman, and sayde vnto Symo: Seist thou this woma? I am come in to thine house, thou hast geue me no water vnto my fete, but she hath watred my fete with teares, and dryed the wt the hayres of hir heade: |
7:45 | Thou hast geue me no kysse, but she (sens the tyme she came in) hath not ceassed to kysse my fete: |
7:46 | Thou hast not anointed my heade wt oyle, but she hath anoynted my heade with oyntment. |
7:47 | Therfore I saye vnto the: Many synnes are forgeuen her, for she hath loued moch. But vnto whom lesse is forgeuen, the same loueth the lesse. |
7:48 | And he sayde vnto her: Thy synnes are forgeuen the. |
7:49 | Then they that sat at the table with him, beganne to saye within them selues: What is he this, that forgeueth synnes also? |
7:50 | But he sayde vnto the woman: Thy faith hath saued the, Go thy waye in peace. |
