Luke - Chapter: 11

>
11:1And it came to passe, that as he was praying in a certaine place, when hee ceased, one of his disciples said vnto him, Lord, teach vs to pray, as Iohn also taught his disciples.
11:2And hee said vnto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heauen, Halowed be thy Name, Thy kingdome come, Thy will be done as in heauen, so in earth.
11:3Giue vs day by day our dayly bread.
11:4And forgiue vs our sinnes: for we also forgiue euery one that is indebted to vs. And lead vs not into temptation, but deliuer vs from euill.
11:5And he said vnto them, Which of you shall haue a friend, and shall goe vnto him at midnight, and say vnto him, Friend, lend me three loaues.
11:6For a friend of mine in his iourney is come to me, and I haue nothing to set before him,
11:7And he from within shal answere and say, Trouble mee not, the doore is now shut, and my children are with me in bed: I cannot rise and giue thee.
11:8I say vnto you, Though he will not rise, and giue him, because he is his friend: yet because of his importunitie, hee will rise and giue him as many as he needeth.
11:9And I say vnto you, Aske, and it shalbe giuen you: seeke, and ye shal find: knocke, and it shalbe opened vnto you.
11:10For euery one that asketh, receiueth: and he that seeketh, findeth: and to him that knocketh, it shalbe opened.
11:11If a sonne shall aske bread of any of you that is a father, will hee giue him a stone? Or if he aske a fish, will he for a fish giue him a serpent?
11:12Or if he shall aske an egge, will he offer him a scorpion?
11:13If ye then, being euill, know how to giue good gifts vnto your children: how much more shall your heauenly Father giue the holy Spirit to them that aske him?
11:14And he was casting out a deuil, and it was dumbe. And it came to passe, when the deuill was gone out, the dumbe spake: and the people wondred.
11:15But some of them said, Hee casteth out deuils through Beelzebub the chiefe of the deuils.
11:16And other tempting him, sought of him a signe from heauen.
11:17But he knowing their thoughts, said vnto them, Euery kingdome diuided against it selfe, is brought to desolation: and a house diuided against a house, falleth.
11:18If Satan also be diuided against himselfe, how shall his kingdom stand? Because yee say that I cast out deuils through Beelzebub.
11:19And if I by Beelzebub cast out deuils, by whom doe your sonnes cast them out? therefore shall they be your iudges.
11:20But if I with the finger of God cast out deuils, no doubt the kingdome of God is come vpon you.
11:21When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:
11:22But when a stronger then he shal come vpon him, and ouercome him, hee taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and diuideth his spoiles.
11:23He that is not with me, is against me: and hee that gathereth not with me, scattereth.
11:24When the vncleane spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through drie places, seeking rest: and finding none, he sayth, I will returne vnto my house whence I came out.
11:25And when hee commeth, hee findeth it swept and garnished.
11:26Then goeth he, and taketh to him seuen other spirits more wicked then himselfe, and they enter in, and dwell there, and the last state of that man is worse then the first.
11:27And it came to passe as hee spake these things, a certaine woman of the company lift vp her voice, and said vnto him, Blessed is the wombe that bare thee, and the pappes which thou hast sucked.
11:28But hee said, Yea, rather blessed are they that heare the word of God, and keepe it.
11:29And when the people were gathered thicke together, hee began to say, This is an euill generation, they seeke a signe, and there shall no signe be giuen it, but the signe of Ionas the Prophet:
11:30For as Ionas was a signe vnto the Nineuites, so shall also the Sonne of man be to this generation.
11:31The Queene of the South shall rise vp in the iudgement with the men of this generation, & condemne them: for shee came from the vtmost parts of the earth, to heare the wisedome of Solomon: and behold, a greater then Solomon is here.
11:32The men of Nineue shall rise vp in the iudgement with this generation, and shall condemne it: for they repented at the preaching of Ionas, and behold, a greater then Ionas is here.
11:33No man when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither vnder a bushell, but on a candlesticke, that they which come in may see the light.
11:34The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light: but when thine eye is euill, thy body also is full of darkenesse.
11:35Take heede therefore, that the light which is in thee, be not darknesse.
11:36If thy whole body therefore be full of light, hauing no part darke, the whole shalbe full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doeth giue thee light.
11:37And as he spake, a certaine Pharise besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sate downe to meate.
11:38And when the Pharise saw it, he marueiled that he had not first washed before dinner.
11:39And the Lord said vnto him, Now doe ye Pharises make cleane the outside of the cup and the platter: but your inward part is full of rauening and wickednesse.
11:40Yee fooles, did not he that made that which is without, make that which is within also?
11:41But rather giue almes of such things as you haue: and behold, all things are cleane vnto you.
11:42But woe vnto you Pharises: for ye tythe Mint and Rue, and all maner of herbes, and passe ouer iudgement, and the loue of God: these ought yee to haue done, and not to leaue the other vndone.
11:43Woe vnto you Pharisees: for ye loue the vppermost seats in the Synagogues, and greetings in the markets.
11:44Woe vnto you Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites: for ye are as graues which appeare not, and the men that walk ouer them, are not aware of them.
11:45Then answered one of the Lawyers, and said vnto him, Master, thus saying, thou reprochest vs also.
11:46And he said, Woe vnto you also ye lawyers: for ye lade men with burdens grieuous to be borne, and ye your selues touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.
11:47Woe vnto you: for ye build the sepulchres of the Prophets, and your fathers killed them.
11:48Truely ye beare witnesse that ye allowe the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and yee build their sepulchres.
11:49Therefore also said the wisedome of God, I wil send them Prophets and Apostles, and some of them they shal slay and persecute:
11:50That the blood of all the Prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation,
11:51From the blood of Abel vnto the blood of Zacharias, which perished betweene the Altar and the Temple: Uerely I say vnto you, it shall be required of this generation.
11:52Woe vnto you Lawyers: for ye haue taken away the key of knowledge: ye entred not in your selues, and them that were entring in, ye hindred.
11:53And as he said these things vnto them, the Scribes and the Pharisees began to vrge him vehemently, and to prouoke him to speake of many things:
11:54Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.

11:1And it fortuned that he was in a place, and prayed. And whan he had ceassed, one of his disciples sayde vnto him: LORDE, teach vs to praye, as Ihon also taught his disciples.
11:2He sayde vnto the: Whan ye praye, saye: O oure father which art in heauen, halowed be thy name. Thy kyngdome come. Thy wil be fulfilled vpon earth, as it is in heauen.
11:3Geue vs this daye oure daylie bred.
11:4And forgeue vs oure synnes, for we also forgeue all them that are detters vnto vs. And lede vs not in to temptacion, but delyuer vs from euell.
11:5And he sayde vnto them: Which of you is it that hath a frende, and shulde go to him at mydinght, and saye vnto him: frende, lende me thre loaues,
11:6for a frende of myne is come to me out of the waye, and I haue nothinge to set before him:
11:7and he within shulde answere and saye: Disquyete me not, the dore is shutt allready, and my children are with me in the chamber, I can not ryse, and geue the.
11:8I saye vnto you: and though he wolde not aryse and geue him, because he is his frende, Yet because of his vnshamefast begginge he wolde aryse, and geue him as many as he neded.
11:9And I saye vnto you also: Axe, and it shal be geuen you: Seke, and ye shal fynde: knocke, and it shalbe opened vnto you.
11:10For who so euer axeth, receaueth: and he that seketh, fyndeth: and to him that knocketh, shal it be opened.
11:11Yf the sonne axe bred of eny of you that is a father, wyl he geue him a stone therfore? Or yf he axe a fysshe, wyl he for the fish offre him a serpent?
11:12Or yf he axe an egg, wyl he profer him a scorpion?
11:13Yf ye then which are euell, can geue youre children good giftes, how moch more shal the father of heauen geue the holy sprete vnto them that axe him?
11:14And he droue out a deuell that was domme: and it came to passe whan the deuell was departed out, the domme spake, and the people wondred.
11:15But some of them sayde: He dryueth out the deuels, thorow Beelzebub the chefe of the deuels.
11:16The other tempted him, and desyred a token of him from heauen.
11:17But he knewe their thoughtes, and sayde vnto them: Euery kyngdome deuyded within it self, shal be desolate, and one house shal fall vpo another.
11:18Yf Sathan then be at variaunce within himself, how shal his kyngdome endure? Because ye saye, that I dryue out deuels thorow Beelzebub.
11:19And yf I dryue out deuels thorow Beelzebul, by whom the do youre children dryue them out? Therfore shall they be youre iudges.
11:20But yf I cast out the deuels by the fynger of God, then is the kyngdome of God come vnto you.
11:21Whan a stronge harnessed man kepeth his house, that he possesseth is in peace:
11:22but whan a stronger then he commeth vpo him, and ouer commeth him, he taketh fro him all his wapens, wherin he trusted, and deuydeth the spoyle.
11:23He that is not with me, is agaynst me: and he that gathereth not with me, scatereth abrode.
11:24Whan the vncleane sprete is gone out of a man, he walketh thorow drye places, sekynge rest, and fyndeth none. Then sayeth he: I wil turne agayne in to my house, from whence I wente out.
11:25And whan he commeth, he fyndeth it swepte, and garnished.
11:26Then goeth he, and taketh vnto him seuen other spretes, worse the himself. And whan they are entred in, they dwell there. And the ende of that man is worse then the begynnynge.
11:27And it fortuned whan he spake soch, a certayne woman amonge the people lift vp hir voyce, and sayde vnto him: Blessed is ye wombe that bare the, and the pappes that thou hast sucked.
11:28But he sayde: Yee blessed are they that heare the worde of God, and kepe it.
11:29Whan the people were gathered thicke together, he beganne to saye: This is an euell generacion, they desyre a toke, and there shal no token be geuen them, but the toke of the prophet Ionas.
11:30For like as Ionas was a toke vnto the Niniuytes, so shal the sonne of man be vnto this generacion.
11:31The quene of the south shal aryse at the iudgmet with the men of this generacion, and shall condempne them: for she came from the ende of the worlde, to heare the wyssdome of Salomon. And beholde, here is one more then Salomon.
11:32The men of Niniue shal aryse at the iudgment with this generacion, and shall condempne them: for they dyd pennaunce after the preachinge of Ionas: and beholde, here is one more the Ionas.
11:33No man lighteth a candell, and putteth it in a preuy place, nether vnder a busshell, but vpon a candilsticke, that they which come in, maye se ye light.
11:34The eye is the light of the body. Yf thine eye then be syngle, all thy body shal be full of light: but yf thine eye be wicked, then shal all thy body be full of darcknesse.
11:35Take hede therfore, that the light which is in the, be not darcknesse.
11:36Yf thy body now be light, so that it haue no parte of darknesse, then shal it be all full of light, and shall light the euen as a cleare lightenynge.
11:37But whyle he yet spake, a certayne Pharise prayed him, that he wolde dyne with him. And he wente in, and sat him downe at the table.
11:38Whan the Pharise sawe that, he marueyled, that he wasshed not first before dyner.
11:39But the LORDE sayde vnto him: Now do ye Pharises make cleane the out syde of the cuppe and platter, but youre inwarde partes are full of robbery and wickednesse.
11:40Ye fooles, is a thinge made cleane within, because the outsyde is clensed?
11:41Neuertheles geue almesse of that ye haue, and beholde, all is cleane vnto you.
11:42But wo vnto you Pharises, ye that tythe mynt and rewe, and all maner herbes, and passe ouer iudgmet and ye loue of God. These ought to haue bene done, and not to leaue the other vndone.
11:43Wo vnto you Pharises, for ye loue to syt vppermost in the synagoges, and to be saluted in the market.
11:44Wo vnto you scrybes and Pharyses, ye ypocrites, for ye are like couered sepulcres, where ouer men walke, and are not awarre of them.
11:45Then answered one of the scrybes, and sayde vnto him: Master, with these wordes thou puttest vs to rebuke also.
11:46But he saide: And wo vnto you also ye scrybes, for ye lade men with vntollerable burthens, and ye youre selues touch them not with one of yor fyngers.
11:47Wo vnto you, for ye buylde the sepulcres of the prophetes, but youre fathers put them to death.
11:48Doutles ye beare wytnesse, and consente vnto the dedes of yor fathers: for they slewe them, and ye buylde their sepulcres.
11:49Therfore sayde the wyssdome of God: I wil sende prophetes and Apostles vnto the: and some of them shal they put to death and persecute,
11:50hat the bloude of all the prophetes which hath bene shed sens the foundacion of the worlde was layed, maye be requyred of this generacion:
11:51from the bloude of Abell, vnto ye bloude of Zachary, which perished betwene the altare and ye temple. Yee I saye vnto you: it shalbe requyred of this generacion.
11:52Wo vnto you scrybes, for ye haue receaued ye keye of knowlege. Ye are not come in youre selues, and haue forbydden them that wolde haue bene in.
11:53Whan he spake thus vnto them, the scrybes and Pharyses beganne to preasse sore vpon him, and to stoppe his mouth with many questions,
11:54and layed wayte for him, and sought to hunte out some thinge out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.

11:1And it was don, whanne he was preiynge in a place, as he ceesside, oon of hise disciplis seide to hym, Lord, teche vs to preye, as Joon tauyte hise disciplis.
11:2And he seide to hem, Whanne ye preien, seie ye, Fadir, halewid be thi name. Thi kyngdom come to.
11:3Yyue `to vs to dai oure ech daies breed.
11:4And foryyue to vs oure synnes, as we foryyuen to ech man that owith to vs. And lede vs not in to temptacioun.
11:5And he seide to hem, Who of you schal haue a freend, and schal go to hym at mydnyyt, and schal seie to hym, Freend, leene to me thre looues;
11:6for my freend cometh to me fro the weie, and Y haue not what Y schal sette bifor hym.
11:7And he with ynforth answere and seie, Nyle thou be heuy to me; the dore is now schit, and my children ben with me in bed; Y may not rise, and yyue to thee.
11:8And if he schal dwelle stil knockynge, Y seie to you, thouy he schal not rise, and yyue to him, for that that he is his freend, netheles for his contynuel axyng he schal ryse, and yyue to hym, as many as he hath nede to.
11:9And Y seie to you, axe ye, and it schal be youun to you; seke ye, and ye schulen fynde; knocke ye, and it schal be openyd to you.
11:10For ech that axith, takith, and he that sekith, fyndith; and to a man that knockith, it schal be openyd.
11:11Therfor who of you axith his fadir breed, whether he schal yyue hym a stoon? or if he axith fisch, whether he schal yyue hym a serpent for the fisch?
11:12or if he axe an eye, whether he schal a reche hym a scorpioun?
11:13Therfor if ye, whanne ye ben yuel, kunnen yyue good yiftis to youre children, hou myche more youre fadir of heuene schal yyue a good spirit to men that axith him.
11:14And Jhesus was castynge out a feend, and he was doumbe. And whanne he hadde cast out the feend, the doumbe man spak; and the puple wondride.
11:15And sum of hem seiden, In Belsabub, prince of deuelis, he castith out deuelis.
11:16And othir temptinge axiden of hym a tokene fro heuene.
11:17And as he saiy the thouytis of hem, he seide to hem, Euery rewme departid ayens it silf, schal be desolat, and an hous schal falle on an hous.
11:18And if Sathanas be departid ayens hym silf, hou schal his rewme stonde? For ye seien, that Y caste out feendis in Belsabub.
11:19And if Y in Belsabub caste out fendis, in whom casten out youre sones? Therfor thei schulen be youre domesmen.
11:20But if Y caste out fendis in the fyngir of God, thanne the rewme of God is comun among you.
11:21Whanne a strong armed man kepith his hous, alle thingis that he weldith ben in pees.
11:22But if a stronger than he come vpon hym, and ouercome hym, he schal take awei al his armere, in which he tristide, and schal dele abrood his robries.
11:23He that is not with me, is ayens me; and he that gederith not togidir with me, scaterith abrood.
11:24Whanne an vnclene spirit goith out of a man, he wandrith bi drie placis, and sekith reste; and he fyndynge not, seith, Y schal turne ayen in to myn hous, fro whannes Y cam out.
11:25And whanne he cometh, he fyndith it clansid with besyms, and fayre arayed.
11:26Thanne he goith, and takith with hym seuene othere spirits worse than hym silf, and thei entren, and dwellen there. And the laste thingis of that man ben maad worse than the formere.
11:27And it was don, whanne he hadde seid these thingis, a womman of the cumpanye reride hir vois, and seide to hym, Blessid be the wombe that bare thee, and blessid be the tetis that thou hast soken.
11:28And he seide, But yhe blessid be thei, that heren the word of God, and kepen it.
11:29And whanne the puple runnen togidere, he bigan to seie, This generacioun is a weiward generacioun; it sekith a token, and a tokene schal not be youun to it, but the tokene of Jonas, the profete.
11:30For as Jonas was a tokene to men of Nynyue, so mannus sone schal be to this generacioun.
11:31The queen of the south schal rise in doom with men of this generacioun, and schal condempne hem; for sche cam fro the endis of the erthe, for to here the wisdom of Salomon, and lo! here is a gretter than Salomon.
11:32Men of Nynyue schulen rise in doom with this generacioun, and schulen condempne it; for thei diden penaunce in the prechyng of Jonas, and lo! here is a gretter than Jonas.
11:33No man tendith a lanterne, and puttith in hidils, nether vndur a buyschel, but on a candilstike, that thei that goen in, se liyt.
11:34The lanterne of thi bodi is thin iye; if thin iye be symple, al thi bodi schal be liyti; but if it be weyward, al thi bodi schal be derkful.
11:35Therfor se thou, lest the liyt that is in thee, be derknessis.
11:36Therfor if al thi bodi be briyt, and haue no part of derknessis, it schal be al briyt, and as a lanterne of briytnesse it schal yyue liyt to thee.
11:37And whanne he spak, a Farisee preiede him, that he schulde ete with hym. And he entride, and sat to the meete.
11:38And the Farisee bigan to seie, gessynge with ynne hym silf, whi he was not waschen bifor mete.
11:39And the Lord seide to hym, Now ye Farisees clensen that that is with outenforth of the cuppe and the plater; but that thing that is with ynne of you, is ful of raueyn and wickidnesse.
11:40Foolis, whether he that made that that is withoutenforth, made not also that that is with ynne?
11:41Netheles that that is ouer plus, yyue ye almes, and lo! alle thingis ben cleene to you.
11:42But wo to you, Farisees, that tithen mynte, and rue, and ech eerbe, and leeuen doom and the charite of God. For it bihofte to do these thingis, and not leeue tho.
11:43Wo to you, Farisees, that louen the firste chaieris in synagogis, and salutaciouns in chepyng.
11:44Wo to you, that ben as sepulcris, that ben not seyn, and men walkynge aboue witen not.
11:45But oon of the wise men of the lawe answeride, and seide to hym, Maystir, thou seiynge these thingis, also to vs doist dispit.
11:46And he seide, Also wo to you, wise men of lawe, for ye chargen men with birthuns which thei moun not bere, and ye you silf with youre o fyngur touchen not the heuynessis.
11:47Wo to you, that bilden toumbis of profetis; and youre fadris slowen hem.
11:48Treuli ye witnessen, that ye consenten to the werkis of youre fadris; for thei slowen hem, but ye bilden her sepulcris.
11:49Therfor the wisdom of God seide, Y schal sende to hem profetis and apostlis, and of hem thei schulen sle and pursue,
11:50that the blood of alle prophetis, that was sched fro the making of the world, be souyt of this generacioun;
11:51fro the blood of the iust Abel to the blood of Zacharie, that was slayn bitwixe the auter and the hous. So Y seie to you, it schal be souyt of this generacioun.
11:52Wo to you, wise men of the lawe, for ye han takun awei the keye of kunnyng; and ye yow silf entriden not, and ye han forbeden hem that entriden.
11:53And whanne he seide these thingis to hem, the Farisees and wise men of lawe bigunnen greuousli to ayenstonde, and stoppe his mouth of many thingis,
11:54aspiynge hym, and sekynge to take sum thing of his mouth, to accuse hym.
