| 16:1 | He seide also to hise disciplis, Ther was a riche man, that hadde a baili; and this was defamed to him, as he hadde wastid his goodis. |
| 16:2 | And he clepide hym, and seide to hym, What here Y this thing of thee? yelde reckynyng of thi baili, for thou miyte not now be baili. |
| 16:3 | And the baili seide with ynne him silf, What schal Y do, for my lord takith awei fro me the baili? delfe mai Y not, I schame to begge. |
| 16:4 | Y woot what Y schal do, that whanne Y am remeued fro the baili, thei resseyue me in to her hous. |
| 16:5 | Therfor whanne alle the dettours of his lord weren clepid togider, he seide to the firste, Hou myche owist thou to my lord? |
| 16:6 | And he seide, An hundrid barelis of oyle. And he seide to hym, Take thi caucioun, and sitte soone, and write fifti. |
| 16:7 | Aftirward he seide to another, And hou myche owist thou? Which answerde, An hundrid coris of whete. And he seide to hym, Take thi lettris, and write foure scoore. |
| 16:8 | And the lord preiside the baili of wickydnesse, for he hadde do prudentli; for the sones of this world ben more prudent in her generacioun than the sones of liyt. |
| 16:9 | And Y seie to you, make ye to you freendis of the ritchesse of wickidnesse, that whanne ye schulen fayle, thei resseyue you in to euerlastynge tabernaclis. |
| 16:10 | He that is trewe in the leeste thing, is trewe also in the more; and he that is wickid in a litil thing, is wickid also in the more. |
| 16:11 | Therfor if ye weren not trewe in the wickid thing of ritchesse, who schal bitake to you that that is verry? |
| 16:12 | And if ye weren not trewe in othere mennus thing, who schal yyue to you that that is youre? |
| 16:13 | No seruaunt may serue to twei lordis; for ether he schal hate `the toon, and loue the tothir; ethir he schal drawe to `the toon, and schal dispise the tothir. Ye moun not serue to God and to ritchesse. |
| 16:14 | But the Farisees, that weren coueytous, herden alle these thingis, and thei scorneden hym. |
| 16:15 | And he seide to hem, Ye it ben, that iustifien you bifor men; but God hath knowun youre hertis, for that that is hiy to men, is abhomynacioun bifor God. |
| 16:16 | The lawe and prophetis til to Joon; fro that tyme the rewme of God is euangelisid, and ech man doith violence in to it. |
| 16:17 | Forsothe it is liyter heuene and erthe to passe, than that o titil falle fro the lawe. |
| 16:18 | Euery man that forsakith his wijf, and weddith an other, doith letcherie; and he that weddith the wijf forsakun of the hosebonde, doith auowtrie. |
| 16:19 | There was a riche man, and was clothid in purpur, and whit silk, and eete euery dai schynyngli. |
| 16:20 | And there was a begger, Lazarus bi name, that lai at his yate ful of bilis, |
| 16:21 | and coueitide to be fulfillid of the crummes, that fellen doun fro the riche mannus boord, and no man yaf to hym; but houndis camen, and lickiden hise bilis. |
| 16:22 | And it was don, that the begger diede, and was borun of aungels in to Abrahams bosum. |
| 16:23 | And the riche man was deed also, and was biried in helle. And he reiside hise iyen, whanne he was in turmentis, and say Abraham afer, and Lazarus in his bosum. |
| 16:24 | And he criede, and seide, Fadir Abraham, haue merci on me, and sende Lazarus, that he dippe the ende of his fyngur in watir, to kele my tunge; for Y am turmentid in this flawme. |
| 16:25 | And Abraham seide to hym, Sone, haue mynde, for thou hast resseyued good thingis in thi lijf, and Lazarus also yuel thingis; but he is now coumfortid, and thou art turmentid. |
| 16:26 | And in alle these thingis a greet derk place is stablischid betwixe vs and you; that thei that wolen fro hennus passe to you, moun not, nethir fro thennus passe ouer hidur. |
| 16:27 | And he seide, Thanne Y preie thee, fadir, that thou sende hym in to the hous of my fadir. |
| 16:28 | For Y haue fyue britheren, that he witnesse to hem, lest also thei come in to this place of turmentis. |
| 16:29 | And Abraham seide to him, Thei han Moyses and the prophetis; here thei hem. |
| 16:30 | And he seide, Nay, fadir Abraham, but if ony of deed men go to hem, thei schulen do penaunce. |
| 16:31 | And he seide to hym, If thei heren not Moises and prophetis, nethir if ony of deed men rise ayen, thei schulen bileue to hym. |
| 16:1 | And he sayde also vnto his disciples, There was a certaine riche man, which had a stewarde, and he was accused vnto him, that he wasted his goods. |
| 16:2 | And hee called him, and saide vnto him, Howe is it that I heare this of thee? Giue an accounts of thy stewardship: for thou maiest be no longer steward. |
| 16:3 | Then the stewarde saide within himselfe, What shall I doe? for my master taketh away from me the stewardship. I cannot digge, and to begge I am ashamed. |
| 16:4 | I knowe what I will doe, that when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receiue mee into their houses. |
| 16:5 | Then called he vnto him euery one of his masters detters, and said vnto the first, Howe much owest thou vnto my master? |
| 16:6 | And he said, An hudreth measures of oyle. And he saide to him, Take thy writing, and sitte downe quickely, and write fiftie. |
| 16:7 | Then said he to another, How much owest thou? And hee sayde, An hundreth measures of wheate. Then he saide to him, Take thy writing, and write foure score. |
| 16:8 | And the Lord commended the vniust stewarde, because he had done wisely. Wherefore the children of this worlde are in their generation wiser then the children of light. |
| 16:9 | And I say vnto you, Make you friends with the riches of iniquitie, that when ye shall want, they may receiue you into euerlasting habitations. |
| 16:10 | He that is faithfull in the least, hee is also faithful in much: and he that is vniust in the least, is vniust also in much. |
| 16:11 | If then ye haue not ben faithful in the wicked riches, who wil trust you in the true treasure? |
| 16:12 | And if ye haue not bene faithfull in another mans goods, who shall giue you that which is yours? |
| 16:13 | No seruaunt can serue two masters: for either he shall hate the one, and loue the other: or els he shall leane to the one, and despise the other. Yee can not serue God and riches. |
| 16:14 | All these thinges heard the Pharises also which were couetous, and they scoffed at him. |
| 16:15 | Then he sayde vnto them, Yee are they, which iustifie your selues before men: but God knoweth your heartes: for that which is highly esteemed among men, is abomination in the sight of God. |
| 16:16 | The Lawe and the Prophets endured vntill Iohn: and since that time the kingdome of God is preached, and euery man preasseth into it. |
| 16:17 | Nowe it is more easie that heauen and earth shoulde passe away, then that one title of the Lawe should fall. |
| 16:18 | Whosoeuer putteth away his wife, and marieth another, committeth adulterie: and whosoeuer marieth her that is put away from her husband, committeth adulterie. |
| 16:19 | There was a certaine riche man, which was clothed in purple and fine linnen, and fared well and delicately euery day. |
| 16:20 | Also there was a certaine begger named Lazarus, which was laide at his gate full of sores, |
| 16:21 | And desired to bee refreshed with the crommes that fell from the riche mans table: yea, and the dogges came and licked his sores. |
| 16:22 | And it was so that the begger died, and was caried by the Angels into Abrahams bosome. The rich man also died, and was buried. |
| 16:23 | And being in hell in torments, he lift vp his eyes, and sawe Abraham a farre off, and Lazarus in his bosome. |
| 16:24 | Then he cried, and saide, Father Abraham, haue mercie on mee, and sende Lazarus that hee may dippe the tip of his finger in water, and coole my tongue: for I am tormented in this flame. |
| 16:25 | But Abraham saide, Sonne, remember that thou in thy life time receiuedst thy pleasures, and likewise Lazarus paines: now therefore is he comforted, and thou art tormented. |
| 16:26 | Besides all this, betweene you and vs there is a great gulfe set, so that they which would goe from hence to you, can not: neither can they come from thence to vs. |
| 16:27 | Then he said, I pray thee therfore, father, that thou wouldest sende him to my fathers house, |
| 16:28 | (For I haue fiue brethren) that he may testifie vnto them, least they also come into this place of torment. |
| 16:29 | Abraham said vnto him, They haue Moses and the Prophets: let them heare them. |
| 16:30 | And he sayde, Nay, father Abraham: but if one came vnto them from the dead, they will amend their liues. |
| 16:31 | Then he saide vnto him, If they heare not Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rise from the dead againe. |
| 16:1 | He also said to His disciples: "There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and an accusation was brought to him that this man was wasting his goods." |
| 16:2 | So he called him and said to him, 'What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship, because you can no longer be steward.'" |
| 16:3 | "Then the steward said within himself, 'What shall I do? Because, my master is taking the stewardship away from me. I cannot dig; I am ashamed to beg." |
| 16:4 | I have resolved what to do, that when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.'" |
| 16:5 | "So he called every one of his master's debtors to him, and said to the first, 'How much do you owe my master?'" |
| 16:6 | And he said, 'A hundred measures of oil.' So he said to him, 'Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.'" |
| 16:7 | Then he said to another, 'And how much do you owe?' So he said, 'A hundred measures of wheat.' And he said to him, 'Take your bill, and write eighty.'" |
| 16:8 | So the master commended the unjust steward because he had dealt shrewdly. Because, the sons of this world are more shrewd in their generation than the children of light." |
| 16:9 | "And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by unrighteous mammon, that when you fail, they may receive you into an everlasting home." |
| 16:10 | He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much." |
| 16:11 | Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?" |
| 16:12 | And if you have not been faithful in what is another man's, who will give you what is your own?" |
| 16:13 | "No servant can serve two masters; because, either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon." |
| 16:14 | Now the Pharisees, who were covetous, also heard all these things, and they derided Him. |
| 16:15 | And He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. Because, what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God." |
| 16:16 | "The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it." |
| 16:17 | And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one tittle of the law to fail." |
| 16:18 | "Whoever puts away his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is put away from her husband commits adultery." |
| 16:19 | "There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and lived lavishly every day." |
| 16:20 | But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate," |
| 16:21 | and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores." |
| 16:22 | So it happened that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried." |
| 16:23 | And being in torments in Hell, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom." |

| 16:27 | "Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house," |
| 16:28 | because, I have five brethren, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.'" |
| 16:29 | Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'" |
| 16:30 | And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one went to them from the dead, they will repent.'" |
| 16:31 | But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.'" |
