Luke - Chapter: 22

>
22:1Now ye feast of vnleuened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passeouer.
22:2And the chiefe Priests and Scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
22:3Then entred Satan into Iudas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelue.
22:4And he went his way, and communed with the chiefe Priests and captaines, how he might betray him vnto them.
22:5And they were glad, and couenanted to giue him money.
22:6And he promised, and sought opportunitie to betray him vnto them in the absence of the multitude.
22:7Then came the day of vnleauened bread, when the Passeouer must be killed.
22:8And he sent Peter and Iohn, saying, Goe and prepare vs the Passeouer, that we may eate.
22:9And they said vnto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
22:10And he said vnto them, Behold, when ye are entred into the citie, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water, follow him into the house where he entreth in.
22:11And yee shall say vnto the goodman of the house, The Master saith vnto thee, Where is the ghest-chamber where I shall eate the Passeouer with my disciples?
22:12And he shall shew you a large vpper roume furnished, there make ready.
22:13And they went, and found as hee had said vnto them, and they made readie the Passeouer.
22:14And when the houre was come, he sate downe, and the twelue Apostles with him.
22:15And he said vnto them, With desire I haue desired to eate this Passeouer with you before I suffer.
22:16For I say vnto you, I will not any more eate thereof, vntill it be fulfilled in the kingdome of God.
22:17And hee tooke the cup, and gaue thanks, and said, Take this, and diuide it among your selues.
22:18For I say vnto you, I will not drinke of the fruit of the Uine, vntill the kingdome of God shall come.
22:19And hee tooke bread, and gaue thankes, and brake it, and gaue vnto them, saying, This is my body which is giuen for you, this doe in remembrance of me.
22:20Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the New Testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
22:21But beholde, the hand of him that betrayeth mee, is with mee on the table.
22:22And truly the Sonne of man goeth as it was determined, but woe vnto that man by whom he is betraied.
22:23And they began to enquire among themselues, which of them it was that should doe this thing.
22:24And there was also a strife among them, which of them should bee accompted the greatest.
22:25And hee saide vnto them, The Kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship ouer them, & they that exercise authoritie vpon them, are called benefactors.
22:26But ye shall not be so; but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the yonger, and he that is chiefe, as he that doeth serue.
22:27For whether is greater, hee that sitteth at meat, or hee that serueth? Is not he that sitteth at meat? But I am among you as he that serueth.
22:28Ye are they which haue continued with me in my temptations.
22:29And I appoint vnto you a kingdome, as my Father hath appointed vnto me,
22:30That yee may eate and drinke at my table in my kingdome, and sit on thrones iudging the twelue Tribes of Israel.
22:31And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, beholde, Satan hath desired to haue you, that he may sift you as wheat:
22:32But I haue prayed for thee, that thy faith faile not; and when thou art conuerted, strengthen thy brethren.
22:33And hee said vnto him, Lord, I am ready to goe with thee both into prison, and to death.
22:34And hee said, I tell thee Peter, the cocke shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrise denie that thou knowest me.
22:35And he said vnto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shooes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.
22:36Then saide hee vnto them, But now he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and hee that hath no sword, let him sel his garment, and buy one.
22:37For I say vnto you, that this that is written, must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: For the things concerning me haue an end.
22:38And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And hee saide vnto them, It is ynough.
22:39And he came out, and went, as hee was wont, to the mount of Oliues, and his disciples also followed him.
22:40And when he was at the place, he said vnto them, Pray, that yee enter not into temptation.
22:41And he was withdrawen from them about a stones cast, and kneeled downe, and prayed,
22:42Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remooue this cup from me: neuerthelesse, not my will, but thine be done.
22:43And there appeared an Angel vnto him from heauen, strengthening him.
22:44And being in an agonie, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling downe to the ground.
22:45And when he rose vp from prayer, and was come to his disciples, hee found them sleeping for sorrow,
22:46And said vnto them, Why sleepe yee? Rise, and pray, lest yee enter into temptation.
22:47And while he yet spake, behold, a multitude, and hee that was called Iudas, one of the twelue, went before them, and drewe neere vnto Iesus, to kisse him.
22:48But Iesus said vnto him, Iudas, betrayest thou the sonne of man with a kisse?
22:49When they which were about him, saw what would follow, they said vnto him, Lord, shall wee smite with the sword?
22:50And one of them smote the seruant of the high Priest, and cut off his right eare.
22:51And Iesus answered, and said, Suffer ye thus farre. And he touched his eare, and healed him.
22:52Then Iesus said vnto the chiefe Priests, and captaines of the Temple, and the Elders which were come to him, Be ye come out as against a thiefe, with swords and staues?
22:53When I was daily with you in the Temple, yee stretched foorth no hands against mee: but this is your houre, and the power of darkenesse.
22:54Then tooke they him, and led him, and brought him into the high Priests house, and Peter followed afarre off.
22:55And when they had kindled a fire in the middes of the hall, and were set downe together, Peter sate downe among them.
22:56But a certaine maide beheld him as he sate by the fire, and earnestly looked vpon him, and said, This man was also with him.
22:57And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
22:58And after a little while another saw him, & said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
22:59And about the space of one houre after, another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a trueth this fellow also was with him; for he is a Galilean.
22:60And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately while he yet spake, the cocke crew.
22:61And the Lord turned, and looked vpon Peter; and Peter remembred the word of the Lord, how he had said vnto him, Before the cocke crow, thou shalt deny me thrise.
22:62And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
22:63And the men that helde Iesus, mocked him, and smote him.
22:64And when they had blindfolded him, they stroke him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesie, who is it that smote thee?
22:65And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.
22:66And assoone as it was day, the Elders of the people, & the chiefe Priests and the Scribes came together, and led him into their Councell, saying,
22:67Art thou the Christ? Tell vs. And hee said vnto them, If I tell you, you will not beleeue.
22:68And if I also aske you, you will not answere me, nor let me goe.
22:69Hereafter shal the sonne of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
22:70Then said they all, Art thou then the Sonne of God? And hee said vnto them, Ye say that I am.
22:71And they said, What need we any further witnesse? For wee our selues haue heard of his owne mouth.

22:1The feast of swete bred (which is called Easter) drue nye.
22:2And ye hye presstes and Scrybes sought how they might put him to death, and were afrayed of the people.
22:3But Satan was entred in to Iudas, named Iscarioth (which was of ye nombre of ye twolue)
22:4and he wete his waye, and talked with the hye prestes and with ye officers, how he wolde betraye him vnto them.
22:5And they were glad, and promysed to geue him money.
22:6And he cosented, & sought oportunite, yt he might betraye hi without eny rumoure.
22:7Then came ye daye of swete bred, wherin the Easter lambe must be offered.
22:8And he sent Peter and Ihon, and sayde: Go youre waye, prepare vs the Easter lambe, that we maye eate.
22:9But they sayde vnto him: Where wilt thou, that we prepare it?
22:10He saide vnto them: Beholde, wha ye come in to ye cite, there shal mete you a man, bearinge a pitcher of water, folowe him in to the house yt he entreth in,
22:11and saye vnto the good man of the house: The master sendeth ye worde: Where is ye gesthouse, wherin I maye eate the Easter labe with my disciples?
22:12And he shal shewe you a greate parlour paued.
22:13They wente their waye, and founde as he had sayde vnto them, and made ready the Easter lambe.
22:14And whan the houre came, he sat him downe, and the twolue Apostles with him,
22:15and he sayde vnto them: I haue hertely desyred to eate this Easter labe with you before I suffre.
22:16For I saye vnto you: that hence forth I wil eate nomore therof, tyll it be fulfilled in the kyngdome of God.
22:17And he toke the cuppe, gaue thankes, and sayde: Take this and deuyde it amonge you.
22:18For I saye vnto you: I wil not drynke of the frute of ye vyne, vntyll the kyngdome of God come.
22:19And he toke the bred, gaue thankes, and brake it, and gaue it them, and sayde: This is my body, which shalbe geuen for you. This do in the remembraunce of me.
22:20Likewyse also the cuppe, after they had supped, and sayde: This cuppe is the new Testamet in my bloude, which shalbe shed for you.
22:21But lo, the hande of him that betrayeth me, is with me on the table.
22:22And the sonne of man trulye goeth forth, as it is appoynted. But wo vnto that man, by whom he is betrayed.
22:23And they beganne to axe amonge them selues, which of them it shulde be, that shulde do that.
22:24There rose a strife also amoge the, which of them shulde be take for the greatest.
22:25But he sayde vnto them: The kynges of ye worlde haue domynion ouer ye people, and they that beare rule ouer the, are called gracious lordes.
22:26But ye shal not be so: But the greatest amonge you, shalbe as the yongest: and the chefest, as a seruaunt.
22:27For which is the greatest? he that sytteth at the table, or he that serueth? Is not he that sytteth at the table? But I am amoge you as a mynister.
22:28As for you, ye are they, that haue bydde wt me in my temptacions.
22:29And I wil appoynte the kyngdome vnto you, euen as my father hath appoynted me,
22:30that ye maye eate and drynke at my table in my kyngdome, and syt vpon seates, and iudge the twolue trybes of Israel.
22:31But the LORDE sayde: Simon Simon, beholde, Satan hath desyred after you, that he might siffte you euen as wheate:
22:32but I haue prayed for ye, that thy faith fayle not. And whan thou art couerted, strength thy brethren:
22:33But he sayde vnto him: LORDE, I am ready to go with the into preson, and in to death.
22:34Neuertheles he sayde: Peter, I saye vnto the: The cock shal not crowe this daye, tyll thou haue thryse denyed, yt thou knewest me.
22:35And he sayde vnto them: Whan I sent you without wallet, without scryppe, and without shues, lacked ye eny thinge? They sayde: No.
22:36Then sayde he vnto them: But now, he that hath a wallet, let him take it vp, likewyse also the scryppe. But he that hath not, let him sell his coate, & bye a swerde.
22:37For I saye vnto you: It must yet be fulfilled on me, that is wrytte: He was counted amonge the euell doers. For loke what is wrytten of me, it hath an ende.
22:38But they sayde: LORDE, Beholde, here are two swerdes. He sayde vnto the: It is ynough.
22:39And he wente out (as he was wonte) vnto mout Oliuete. But his disciples folowed him vnto the same place.
22:40And whan he came thither, he sayde vnto the: Praye, that ye fall not in to teptacion.
22:41And he gat him from them aboute a stones cast, and kneled downe, prayed,
22:42& sayde: Father, yf thou wilt, take awaye this cuppe fro me: Neuerthelesse, not my wyll, but thyne be fulfylled.
22:43And there appeared vnto him an angell fro heauen, and conforted him.
22:44And it came so, that he wrestled with death, and prayed the longer. And his sweate was like droppes of bloude, runnynge downe to the grounde.
22:45And he rose vp fro prayer, and came to his disciples, and founde them slepinge for heuynesse,
22:46and sayde vnto them: What, slepe ye? ryse vp and praye, that ye fall not into tentacion.
22:47But whyle he yet spake, beholde, the multitude, and one of the twolue called Iudas wente before them, and he came nye vnto Iesus, to kysse him.
22:48But Iesus sayde vnto him: Iudas, betrayest thou the sonne of ma with a kysse?
22:49Whan they that were aboute him, sawe what wolde folowe, they sayde vnto him: LORDE, shal we smyte with the swerde?
22:50And one of the stroke a seruaut of ye hye prestes, & smote of his eare.
22:51But Iesus answered, and sayde: Suffre the thus farre forth. And he touched his eare, & healed him.
22:52But Iesus sayde vnto the prestes and rulers of the temple, and to the Elders that were come vnto him: Ye are come forth as it were to a murthurer with swerdes, & with staues.
22:53I was daylie with you in the temple, and ye layed no handes vpon me. But this is youre houre, and the power of darknesse.
22:54Neuerthelesse they toke him, and led him, and brought him in to the hye prestes house. As for Peter, he folowed hi a farre of.
22:55Then kyndled they a fyre in the myddest of the palace, and sat them downe together. And Peter sat him downe amonge them.
22:56Then a damsell sawe him syttinge by the light, and behelde him well, and sayde vnto him: This same was also with him.
22:57But he denyed him, and sayde: Woma, I knowe him not.
22:58And after a litle whyle, another sawe him, and sayde: Thou art one of them also. But Peter sayde: Man, I am not.
22:59And aboute the space of an houre after, another affirmed, & sayde: Verely this was with him also, for he is a Galilean.
22:60But Peter saide: Ma, I wote not what thou sayest. And immediatly whyle he yet spake, ye cock crewe.
22:61And the LORDE turned him aboute and loked vpo Peter. And Peter remembred the wordes of ye LORDE, how he sayde vnto him: Before the cock crowe, thou shalt denye me thryse.
22:62And Peter wente out, and wepte bytterly.
22:63The men that helde Iesus, mocked him, and stroke him,
22:64blyndfolded him, and smote him on the face, and axed him, and sayde: Prophecie, who is it that smote the?
22:65And many other blasphemies sayde they vnto hi.
22:66And whan it was daye, there gathered together the Elders of the people, the hye prestes and scrybes, and led him vp before, their councell, and sayde:
22:67Art thou Christ? Tell vs. But he sayde vnto them: Yf I tell you, ye wyl not beleue:
22:68But yf I axe you, ye wyl not answere me, nether wyl ye let me go.
22:69From this tyme forth shal the sonne of man sytt at the right hade of the power of God.
22:70Then sayde they all: Art thou then ye sonne of God? He sayde vnto them: Ye saye it, for I am.
22:71They sayde: What nede we anye farther wytnesse? We oure selues haue herde it of his awne mouth.

22:1And the halidai of therf looues, that is seid pask, neiyede.
22:2And the princis of preestis and the scribis souyten, hou thei schulden sle Jhesu, but thei dredden the puple.
22:3And Sathanas entride in to Judas, that was clepid Scarioth, oon of the twelue.
22:4And he wente, and spak with the princis of preestis, and with the magistratis, hou he schulde bitray hym to hem.
22:5And thei ioyeden, and maden couenaunt to yyue hym money.
22:6And he bihiyte, and he souyte oportunyte, to bitraye hym, with outen puple.
22:7But the daies of therf looues camen, in whiche it was neede, that the sacrifice of pask were slayn.
22:8And he sente Petre and Joon, and seide, Go ye, and make ye redi to vs the pask, that we ete.
22:9And thei seiden, Where wolt thou, that we make redi?
22:10And he seide to hem, Lo! whanne ye schulen entre in to the citee, a man berynge a vessel of watir schal meete you; sue ye hym in to the hous, in to which he entrith.
22:11And ye schulen seie to the hosebonde man of the hous, The maister seith to thee, Where is a chaumbre, where Y schal ete the pask with my disciplis?
22:12And he schal schewe to you a greet soupyng place strewid, and there make ye redi.
22:13And thei yeden, and founden as he seide to hem, and thei maden redi the pask.
22:14And whanne the our was come, he sat to the mete, and the twelue apostlis with hym.
22:15And he seide to hem, With desier Y haue desirid to ete with you this pask, bifor that Y suffre;
22:16for Y seie to you, that fro this tyme Y schal not ete it, til it be fulfillid in the rewme of God.
22:17And whanne he hadde take the cuppe, he dide gracis, and seide, Take ye, and departe ye among you;
22:18for Y seie to you, that Y schal not drynke of the kynde of this vyne, til the rewme of God come.
22:19And whanne he hadde take breed, he dide thankyngis, and brak, and yaf to hem, and seide, This is my bodi, that schal be youun for you; do ye this thing in mynde of me.
22:20He took also the cuppe, aftir that he hadde soupid, and seide, This cuppe is the newe testament in my blood, that schal be sched for you.
22:21Netheles lo! the hoond of hym that bitraieth me, is with me at the table.
22:22And mannus sone goith, `aftir that it is determyned; netheles wo to that man, bi whom he schal be bitraied.
22:23And thei bigunnen to seke among hem, who it was of hem, that was to do this thing.
22:24And strijf was maad among hem, which of hem schulde be seyn to be grettest.
22:25But he seide to hem, Kyngis of hethen men ben lordis of hem, and thei that han power on hem ben clepid good doeris, but ye not so;
22:26but he that is grettest among you, be maad as yongere, and he that is bifor goere, as a seruaunt.
22:27For who is gretter, he that sittith at the mete, or he that mynystrith? whether not he that sittith at the mete? And Y am in the myddil of you, as he that mynystrith.
22:28And ye ben, that han dwellid with me in my temptaciouns; and Y dispose to you,
22:29as my fadir hath disposid to me,

22:31And the Lord seide to Symount, Symount, lo, Satanas hath axid you, that he schulde ridile as whete; but Y haue preyede for thee,
22:32that thi feith faile not; and thou sum tyme conuertid, conferme thi britheren.
22:33Which seide to hym, Lord, Y am redi to go in to prisoun and in to deeth with thee.
22:34And he seide, Y seie to thee, Petir, the cok schal not crowe to dai, til thou thries forsake that thou knowist me.
22:35And he seide to hem, Whanne Y sente you with outen sachel, and scrippe, and schone, whether ony thing failide to you?
22:36And thei seiden, No thing. Therfor he seide to hem, But now he that hath a sachel, take also and a scrippe; and he that hath noon, selle his coote, and bigge a swerd.
22:37For Y seie to you, that yit it bihoueth that thing that is writun to be fulfillid in me, And he is arettid with wickid men; for tho thingis that ben of me han ende.
22:38And thei seiden, Lord, lo! twei swerdis here. And he seide to hem, It is ynowy.
22:39And he yede out, and wente aftir the custom in to the hille of Olyues; and the disciplis sueden hym.

22:41And he was taken awei fro hem, so myche as is a stonys cast; and he knelide,
22:42and preyede, and seide, Fadir, if thou wolt, do awei this cuppe fro me; netheles not my wille be don, but thin.
22:43And an aungel apperide to hym fro heuene, and coumfortide hym. And he was maad in agonye, and preyede the lenger;
22:44and his swot was maad as dropis of blood rennynge doun in to the erthe.
22:45And whanne he was rysun fro preier, and was comun to hise disciplis, he foond hem slepynge for heuynesse.
22:46And he seide to hem, What slepen ye? Rise ye, and preye ye, that ye entre not in to temptacioun.
22:47Yit while he spak, lo! a company, and he that was clepid Judas, oon of the twelue, wente bifor hem; and he cam to Jhesu, to kisse hym.
22:48And Jhesus seide to hym, Judas, `with a coss `thou bytrayest `mannys sone.
22:49And thei that weren aboute hym, and sayn that that was to come, seiden to hym, Lord, whether we smyten with swerd?
22:50And oon of hem smoot the seruaunt of the prince of preestis, and kittide of his riyt eere.
22:51But Jhesus answerde, and seide, Suffre ye til hidir. And whanne he hadde touchid his eere, he heelide hym.
22:52And Jhesus seide to hem, that camen to hym, the princis of preestis, and maiestratis of the temple, and eldre men, As to a theef ye han gon out with swerdis and staues?
22:53Whanne Y was ech dai with you in the temple, ye streiyten not out hondis in to me; but this is youre our, and the power of derknessis.
22:54And thei token him, and ledden to the hous of the prince of prestis; and Petir suede hym afer.
22:55And whanne a fier was kyndelid in the myddil of the greet hous, and thei saten aboute, Petir was in the myddil of hem.
22:56Whom whanne a damysel hadde seyn sittynge `at the liyt, and hadde biholdun hym, sche seide, And this was with hym.
22:57And he denyede hym, and seide, Womman, Y knowe hym not.
22:58And aftir a litil another man siy hym, and seide, And thou art of hem. But Petir seide, A! man, Y am not.
22:59And whanne a space was maad as of on our, another affermyd, and seide, Treuli this was with hym; for also he is of Galilee.
22:60And Petir seide, Man, Y noot what thou seist. And anoon yit while he spak, the cok crewe.
22:61And the Lord turnede ayen, and bihelde Petre; and Petre hadde mynde on the word of Jhesu, as he hadde seid, For bifor that the cok crowe, thries thou schalt denye me.
22:62And Petre yede out, and wepte bittirli.
22:63And the men that helden hym scorneden hym, and smyten hym.
22:64And thei blynfelden hym, and smyten his face, and axiden hym, and seiden, Arede, thou Crist, to vs, who is he that smoot thee?
22:65Also thei blasfemynge seiden ayens hym many other thingis.
22:66And as the day was come, the eldre men of the puple, and the princis of prestis, and the scribis camen togidir, and ledden hym in to her councel,
22:67and seiden, If thou art Crist, seie to vs.
22:68And he seide to hem, If Y seie to you, ye schulen not bileue to me; and if Y axe, ye schulen not answere to me, nethir ye schulen delyuere me.
22:69But aftir this tyme mannys sone schal be sittynge on the riyt half of the vertu of God.
22:70Therfor alle seiden, Thanne art thou the sone of God? And he seide, Ye seien that Y am.
22:71And thei seiden, What yit desiren we witnessyng? for we vs silf han herd of his mouth.
