1:1	Note: In principio erat uerbum. Her onginð þæt god-spell þe Iohannes se godspellere ge-wrat on pathmos þam eiglande. On anginne ærest wæs word. & þæt word wæs mid gode. & god wæs þt word.
1:2	þæt wæs on fruman mid gode.
1:3	ealle þyng wæren ge-worhte þurh hyne. & nan þyng næs ge-worht butan hym.
1:4	þæt wæs lyf þe on hym ge-worht wæs. & þt lyf wæs manne leoht.
1:5	& þæt leoht lyhte on þeostrum. & þeostreo þæt ne ge-namen.
1:6	Man wæs fram gode asend. þæs name wæs Iohannes.
1:7	þes com to ge-witnesse. þæt he ge-wytnesse kyðde be þam leohte. þæt ealle menn þurh hyne ge-lefdon.
1:8	Næs he leoht. ac þæt he wytnesse forð-bære be þam leohte.
1:9	Soð leoht wæs. þæt on-lyht ælcne cumendne man on þysne middan-eard.
1:10	he wæs on midden-earde. & mid dan-eard wæs ge-worht þurh hyne. & middan-eard hyne ne ge-cneow.
1:11	To hys agene he com. & hy hyne ne under-fengen.
1:12	Soðliche swa hwylche swa hyne under-fengen. he sealde heom an-weald þæt hyo wæren godes bearn. þam þe ge-lefeð on hys namen.
1:13	Þa ne synd akende of blode ne of flæsces willen. ne of weres willen. Ac hyo synt of gode akennede.
1:14	Ænd þt word wæs flæsc ge-worden. & eardede on üs. & we ge-segen hys wulder swylche akennedes wuldor of fæder þt wæs ful myd gyfe. & soðfæstnesse.
1:15	Iohannes cyð ge-wytnesse be hym. & clepeð þus cweðende. Þes wæs se þe ic of sægde. Se þe to cumene ys. æfter me. þe wæs ge-worðen be-foren me. for-þan he wæs ær þanne ic.
1:16	Ænd of hys fyllendnysse we ealle we (sic) on-fengen gyfe for gyfe.
1:17	for-þan þe lage wæs ge-seald þurh moysen. & gyfe & soðfæstnys ys ge-worðen þurh hælend crist.
1:18	Ne ge-seah næfre nan man god bute se akennede sune hyt kydde. þe ys on hys fader bearme.
1:19	Note: Miserunt iudei sacerdotes & leuitas ab ierosolimis ad iohannem dicentes. Tu quis es? & þæt is Iohannes ge-wytnys. Ða þa iudeas senden hyre sacerdas & heora diaconas fram Ierusalem to hym. þæt hyo axeden hym & þus cwæðen. hwæt ært þu;
1:20	& he cydde & ne wið-soc & þus cwæð. ne eum (sic) ic na crist.
1:21	Ænd hyo axoden hyne & þus cwæðon. Eart þu helyas; & he cwæð. ne eom ic hyt. Þa cwæðen hyo. eart þu witega. & he answerede & cwæð. nyc.
1:22	Hyo cwæðen to hym. hwæt eart þu; þæt we andswere bringen. þam þe us to þe senden. hwæt sægst þu be þe selfem;
1:23	He cwæð ic em clepiendes stefen on westene. Ge-rihteð drihtnes weig. swa se wytega ysaias cwæð.
1:24	Ænd þa þe þær a-sende wæren. þa wæren for (sic) sunder-halgan.
1:25	ænd hyo axoden hyne & cwæðen to hym. hwi fullast þu; gyf þu ne eart ne helyas ne wytega.
1:26	Iohannes andswerede heom. Ic fullige on wætere. to-middes eow stod þe ge ne cunnen.
1:27	he ys þe æfter me toward ys. Se wæs ge-worðen be-foran me. ne eom ic wurðe þæt ic un-binde hys sceo-þwang.
1:28	Ðas þyng wæren ge-worðenne on bethania be-geonden Iordanen. þær iohannes fullede.
1:29	Oþre dæg Iohannes ge-seah þanne hælend to hym cumende & cwæð. Her ys godes lamb. her ys se þe deð a-weig midden-eardes synne.
1:30	þes ys be þam þe ich sægede. Æfter me cymð wer þe be-foren me ge-worðen wæs. for þam he wæs ær þanne ic.
1:31	& ic hine nyste. Ac ic com & fullode on wætere to þam þæt he wære ge-swutelod on israele folke.
1:32	Ænd Iohannes cydde wytnesse cweðende. þæt ic ge-sah nyþer-cumendne gast of hefene swa swa culfran. & wunede ofer hine.
1:33	& ic hyne ne cuðe. ac se þe me sende to fullianne on wætere he cwæð to me. Ofer þane þe þu ge-sihst niðer-stigende gast. & ofer hyne wuniende þæt ys se þe fullað on halgum gaste.
1:34	& ic ge-seah & ge-wytnesse kydde þt þes is godes sune.
1:35	Note: Stabat Iohannes & ex discipulis eius duo & uidit iesum. Æft oðre dæg stod Iohannes & twegen oft (sic) hys leorning-cnihtum.
1:36	& he cwæð þa he seah þonne halend gangende. her ys godes lamb.
1:37	Ða ge-hyrden hyne twegen leorning-cnihtum sprekende & felgeden þam hælende.
1:38	þa be-sah se halend & ge-seah hyo hym felgiende. & cwæð to heom hwæt seche gyt. hyo cwæðen to hym. rabbi þæt ys ge-cweðen & ge-reaht larðeow. hwær eardest þu.
1:39	he cwæð to heom cumeð & ge-seoð. hyo comen & ge-seagen hwær he wunede. & mid hym wunedon on þam dæge. hyt wæs þa seo teoðe tyd.
1:40	Andreas symones broðer petres wæs oðer of þam twam. Ða ge-herden æt Iohanne & hym fylgedon.
1:41	Ðes ge-mette ærest symonem hys broðer & ge-cwæð to hym. we ge-metten messiam þæt ys ge-reht crist.
1:42	& hyo ledden hyne to þam halende. Þa be-heold se halend hyne & cwæð. Ðu eart symon iohannes sunu. þu beost ge-nemned cephas. þæt ys ge-reht petrus.
1:43	On morgen he wolde faren on galilea. & he ge-mette philippus. ænd se halend cwæð to hym fylge me.
1:44	Soðliche philippus wæs fram bethsaida andreas ceastre & petres.
1:45	Phylippus ge-mette nathanael & cwæð. to hym. we ge-metten þanne hælend Iosepes sunu of nazareth. þonne wrat moyses. & þa witegan on þare ëa.
1:46	ænd nathanael cwæð to hym. mæg ænig þing gödes beon of nazareth. Philippus cwæð to hym; cum ænd ge-seoh.
1:47	Ða ge-seah se hælend nathanael to hym cumende. & cwæð be hym. her ys isrælisc wer. on þam nys nan facn.
1:48	Þa cwæð nathanael to hym. hwanon cuðest ðu me. þa andswerede se halend ænd cwæð to hym. Ic ge-seah þe þa þu wære under þam fic-treowe. ær þam þe philippus þe cleopede.
1:49	Hym answerede þa nathanael ænd þus cwæð. Rabbi þu eart godes sune. ænd þu eart israele kyng.
1:50	Ða cwæð se hælend to hym. þu ge-sihst mare þonne þis syo. for-þan þe þu ge-lyfdest. Ða ic cwæð þæt ic ge-sæwe þe under þam fich-treowe.
1:51	ænd he sægde heom. Soð ic eow segge ge geseoð opene heofones. & godes engles up-stigende & niðer-stigende. ofer mannes sune.


1:1	In the beginning was that Word, and that Word was with God, and that Word was God.
1:2	This same was in the beginning with God.
1:3	All things were made by it, and without it was made nothing that was made.
1:4	In it was life, and that life was the light of men.
1:5	And that light shineth in the darkenesse, and the darkenesse comprehended it not.
1:6	There was a man sent from God, whose name was Iohn.
1:7	This same came for a witnesse, to beare witnesse of that light, that all men through him might beleeue.
1:8	He was not that light, but was sent to beare witnesse of that light.
1:9	This was that true light, which lighteth euery man that commeth into the world.
1:10	He was in the world, and the worlde was made by him: and the worlde knewe him not.
1:11	He came vnto his owne, and his owne receiued him not.
1:12	But as many as receiued him, to them he gaue prerogatiue to be the sonnes of God, euen to them that beleeue in his Name.
1:13	Which are borne not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of ye wil of man, but of God.
1:14	And that Word was made flesh, and dwelt among vs, (and we sawe the glorie thereof, as the glorie of the onely begotten Sonne of the Father) full of grace and trueth.
1:15	Iohn bare witnesse of him, and cryed, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that commeth after me, was before me: for he was better then I.
1:16	And of his fulnesse haue all we receiued, and grace for grace.
1:17	For the Lawe was giuen by Moses, but grace, and trueth came by Iesus Christ.
1:18	No man hath seene God at any time: that onely begotten Sonne, which is in the bosome of the Father, he hath declared him.
1:19	Then this is the record of Iohn, when the Iewes sent Priestes and Leuites from Hierusalem, to aske him, Who art thou?
1:20	And he confessed and denied not, and said plainely, I am not that Christ.
1:21	And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he said, I am not. Art thou that Prophet? And he answered, No.
1:22	Then said they vnto him, Who art thou, that we may giue an answere to them that sent vs? What sayest thou of thy selfe?
1:23	He said, I am the voyce of him that cryeth in the wildernesse, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the Prophet Esaias.
1:24	Nowe they which were sent, were of the Pharises.
1:25	And they asked him, and saide vnto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, neither Elias, nor that Prophet?
1:26	Iohn answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there is one among you, whom ye knowe not.
1:27	He it is that commeth after me, which was before me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthie to vnloose.
1:28	These things were done in Bethabara beyond Iordan, where Iohn did baptize.
1:29	The next day Iohn, seeth Iesus comming vnto him, and saith, Beholde that Lambe of god, which taketh away the sinne of the world.
1:30	This is he of whom I saide, After me commeth a man, which was before me: for he was better then I.
1:31	And I knewe him not: but because he should be declared to Israel, therefore am I come, baptizing with water.
1:32	So Iohn bare recorde, saying, I behelde that Spirit come downe from heauen, like a doue, and it abode vpon him,
1:33	And I knewe him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, he saide vnto me, Vpon whom thou shalt see that Spirit come downe, and tary still on him, that is he which baptizeth with the holy Ghost.
1:34	And I sawe, and bare record that this is that Sonne of God.
1:35	The next day, Iohn stoode againe, and two of his disciples.
1:36	And he behelde Iesus walking by, and said, Beholde that Lambe of God.
1:37	And the two disciples heard him speake, and followed Iesus.
1:38	Then Iesus turned about, and saw them follow, and saide vnto them, What seeke ye? And they saide vnto him, Rabbi (which is to say by interpretation, Master) where dwellest thou?
1:39	He saide vnto them, Come, and see. They came and sawe where hee dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth houre.
1:40	Andrew, Simon Peters brother, was one of the two which had heard it of Iohn, and that followed him.
1:41	The same founde his brother Simon first, and said vnto him, We haue founde that Messias, which is by interpretation, that Christ.
1:42	And he brought him to Iesus. And Iesus behelde him, and saide, Thou art Simon the sonne of Iona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, a stone.
1:43	The day following, Iesus woulde goe into Galile, and founde Philip, and said vnto him, Followe me.
1:44	Nowe Philip was of Bethsaida, the citie of Andrew and Peter.
1:45	Philippe founde Nathanael, and saide vnto him, Wee haue founde him of whom Moses did write in the Lawe, and the Prophetes, Iesus that sonne of Ioseph, that was of Nazareth.
1:46	Then Nathanael sayde vnto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saide to him, Come, and see.
1:47	Iesus sawe Nathanael comming to him, and saide of him, Beholde in deede an Israelite, in whom is no guile.
1:48	Nathanael sayde vnto him, Whence knewest thou mee? Iesus answered, and sayd vnto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast vnder the figge tree, I sawe thee.
1:49	Nathanael answered, and saide vnto him, Rabbi, thou art that Sonne of God: thou art that King of Israel.
1:50	Iesus answered, and sayde vnto him, Because I sayde vnto thee, I sawe thee vnder the figtree, beleeuest thou? thou shalt see greater things then these.
1:51	And he saide vnto him, Verely, verely I say vnto you, hereafter shall yee see heauen open, and the Angels of God ascending, and descending vpon that Sonne of man.


1:1	In the beginnynge was the worde and the worde was with God: and the worde was God.
1:2	The same was in the beginnynge with God.
1:3	All thinges were made by it and with out it was made nothinge that was made.
1:4	In it was lyfe and the lyfe was ye lyght of men
1:5	and the lyght shyneth in the darcknes but the darcknes comprehended it not.
1:6	There was a man sent from God whose name was Iohn.
1:7	The same cam as a witnes to beare witnes of the lyght that all men through him myght beleve.
1:8	He was not that lyght: but to beare witnes of the lyght.
1:9	That was a true lyght which lyghteth all men that come into the worlde.
1:10	He was in ye worlde and the worlde was made by him: and yet the worlde knewe him not.
1:11	He cam amonge his (awne) and his awne receaved him not.
1:12	But as meny as receaved him to them he gave power to be the sonnes of God in yt they beleved on his name:
1:13	which were borne not of bloude nor of the will of the flesshe nor yet of the will of man: but of God.
1:14	And the worde was made flesshe and dwelt amonge vs and we sawe the glory of it as the glory of the only begotten sonne of ye father which worde was full of grace and verite.
1:15	Iohn bare witnes of him and cryed sayinge: This was he of whome I spake he that cometh after me was before me because he was yer then I.
1:16	And of his fulnes have all we receaved even (grace) for grace.
1:17	For the lawe was geven by Moses but grace and truthe came by Iesus Christ.
1:18	No ma hath sene God at eny tyme. The only begotte sonne which is in ye bosome of ye father he hath declared him.
1:19	And this is the recorde of Iohn: When the Iewes sent Prestes and Levites from Ierusalem to axe him what arte thou?
1:20	And he confessed and denyed not and sayde playnly: I am not Christ.
1:21	And they axed him: what then? arte thou Helyas? And he sayde: I am not. Arte thou a Prophete? And he answered no.
1:22	Then sayd they vnto him: what arte thou that we maye geve an answer to them that sent vs: What sayest thou of thy selfe?
1:23	He sayde: I am the voyce of a cryar in the wyldernes make strayght the waye of the Lorde as sayde the Prophete Esaias.
1:24	And they which were sent were of the pharises.
1:25	And they axed him and sayde vnto him: why baptisest thou then yf thou be not Christ nor Helyas nether a Prophet?
1:26	Iohn answered them sayinge: I baptise with water: but one is come amonge you whom ye knowe not
1:27	he it is that cometh after me whiche was before me whose sho latchet I am not worthy to vnlose.
1:28	These thinges were done in Bethabara beyonde Iordan where Iohn dyd baptyse.
1:29	The nexte daye Iohn sawe Iesus commyge vnto him and sayde: beholde the lambe of God which taketh awaye the synne of the worlde.
1:30	This is he of whom I sayde. After me cometh a man which was before me for he was yer then I
1:31	and I knew him not: but that he shuld be declared to Israell therfore am I come baptisynge with water.
1:32	And Iohn bare recorde sayinge: I sawe the sprete descende from heven lyke vnto a dove and abyde apon him
1:33	and I knewe him not. But he that sent me to baptise in water the same sayde vnto me: apon whom thou shalt se the sprete descende and tary styll on him the same is he which baptiseth with the holy goost.
1:34	And I sawe and bare recorde that this is the sonne of God.
1:35	The next daye after Iohn stode agayne and two of his disciples.
1:36	And he behelde Iesus as he walked by and sayde: beholde the lambe of God.
1:37	And the two disciples hearde him speake and folowed Iesus.
1:38	And Iesus turned about and sawe them folowe and sayde vnto them: what seke ye? They sayde vnto him: Rabbi (which is to saye by interpretacion Master) where dwellest thou?
1:39	He sayde vnto them: come and se. They came and sawe where he dwelt: and abode with him that daye. For it was about the tenthe houre.
1:40	One of the two which hearde Iohn speake and folowed Iesus was Andrew Simon Peters brother.
1:41	The same founde his brother Simon fyrst and sayde vnto him: we have founde Messias which is by interpretacion annoynted:
1:42	and brought him to Iesus. And Iesus behelde him and sayde: thou arte Simon the sonne of Ionas thou shalt be called Cephas: which is by interpretacion a stone.
1:43	The daye folowynge Iesus wolde goo into Galile and founde Philip and sayde vnto him folowe me.
1:44	Philip was of Bethsaida the cite of Andrew and Peter.
1:45	And Philip founde Nathanael and sayde vnto him. We have founde him of whom Moses in the lawe and the prophetes dyd wryte. Iesus the sonne of Ioseph of Nazareth.
1:46	And Nathanael sayde vnto him: can ther eny good thinge come out of Nazareth? Philip sayde to him: come and se.
1:47	Iesus sawe Nathanael commynge to him and sayde of him. Beholde a ryght Israelite in who is no gyle.
1:48	Nathanael sayd vnto him: where knewest thou me? Iesus answered and sayde vnto him: Before that Philip called the when thou wast vnder ye fygge tree I sawe the.
1:49	Nathanael answered and sayde vnto him: Rabbi thou arte the sonne of God thou arte the kynge of Israel.
1:50	Iesus answered and sayd vnto him: Because I sayde vnto the I sawe the vnder the fygge tree thou belevest. Thou shalt se greater thinges then these.
1:51	And he sayde vnto him: Verely verely I saye vnto you: herafter shall ye se heven open and the angels of God ascendynge and descendynge over the sonne of man.
