John - Chapter: 4

>
4:1As sone as the Lord had knowledge, how the Phariseis had hearde, that Iesus made & Baptysed more disciples then Iohn
4:2(though that Iesus him self baptysed not: but his disciples)
4:3he lefte Iewry, & departed agayne into Galile.
4:4And it was so that he must nedes go thorowe Samaria.
4:5Then cam he to a citie of Samaria called Sichar, beside the possessyon that Iacob gaue to hys sonne Iosephe.
4:6And there was Iacobs wel, Iesus then weried in hys iorny, sate thus on the wel. And it was about the .vi. houre:
4:7and ther came a woman of Samaria to draw water. And Iesus sayed vnto hyr: geue me drinke.
4:8For hys disciples were gone awaye vnto the town to bye meate.
4:9Then sayde the woman of Samarya vnto hym: howe is it, that thou beynge a Iewe, axest drynke of me which am a Samaritan? for the Iewes medle not with the Samaritans.
4:10Iesus aunswered & sayd vnto hyr: if thou kneweste the gyfte of God, and who it is that sayeth to the geue me drynke, thou wouldeste haue axed of hym, and he woulde haue geuen the water of lyfe.
4:11The woman sayd to hym: Syr thou hast nothinge to drawe wyth, and the well is depe: from whence then hast thou that water of lyfe?
4:12Art thou greater, then our father Iacob, whyche gaue vs this well, and he him selfe dranke therof, and hys chyldren, and his catell?
4:13Iesus aunswered & sayde vnto hyr: whosoeuer drynketh of thys water: shall thyrste agayne.
4:14But whosoeuer shall drinke of the water that I shall geue hym, shall neuer be more a thyrste: but the water that I shall geue him, shall be in him a well of water, springinge vp into euerlasting lyfe.
4:15The woman sayde vnto him: Syr geue me of that water, that I thyrst not neyther come hyther to draw.
4:16Iesus sayd vnto hyr. Go and call thy husbande, and come hyther.
4:17The woman aunswered and sayde to him: I haue no husbande.
4:18Iesus sayde to hyr, Thou hast well sayed, I haue no husbande. For thou haste had fyue husbandes and he whome thou nowe haste is not thy husbande. That saydest thou trulye.
4:19The woman sayd vnto him: Syr I perceiue that thou art a prophete.
4:20Oure fathers worshipped in this mountayne: and ye saye that in Hyerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
4:21Iesus sayd vnto hyr: woman beleue me, the houre cometh, when ye shal neyther in this mountayne, nor yet at Hierusalem worshyppe the father.
4:22Ye worshype, ye wote not what: we knowe what we worshype. For saluation cometh of the Iewes.
4:23But the houre cometh and nowe is, when the true worshyppers shal worshyp the father in spyrite and in trueth. For verelye suche the father requireth to worshyp him.
4:24God is a spyryte, and they that worshyp hym, must worshyp hym in spiryte and trueth.
4:25The woman sayd vnto him: I wot well Messias shal come, whiche is called Christe. When he is come, he wyll tell vs all thinges.
4:26Iesus sayd vnto hyr: I that speake vnto the am he.
4:27And euen at that poynte, came hys disciples, & merueyled that he talketh with the woman. Yet no man said vnto him: what meanest thou, or why talkest thou with hyr?
4:28The woman then left hyr waterpotte, and went hyr way into the citie, and sayed to the men.
4:29Come se a man whiche told me all thynges that euer I dyd. Is not he Christ?
4:30Then they went out of the cytye, and came vnto hym.
4:31And in the meane while his disciples praied hym saying: Maister, eate.
4:32He said vnto them: I haue meate to eate, that ye knowe not of.
4:33Then saied the discyples betwene them selues: hath anye manne brought hym meate?
4:34Iesus saied to them: my meate is to do the wil of him that sent me. And to fynishe his workes.
4:35Saye not ye: there are yet foure monethes, and then cometh heruest? Behold I saye vnto you, lyfte vp youre eyes, and loke on the regyons: for they are whyte al ready vnto harueste.
4:36And he that reapeth receyueth rewarde, and gathereth fruite vnto lyfe eternall: that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth might reioyce together.
4:37And herein is the sayinge true, that one soweth, and another reapeth.
4:38I sente you to reape that wheron ye bestowed no laboure. Othere men laboured, and ye are entred into theyr laboures.
4:39Manye of the Samarytanes of that citie beleued on hym for the sayinge of the woman, whyche testified, he tolde me all thynges that euer I did.
4:40Then when the Samaritans were come vnto him they besought hym that he woulde tary with them. And he abode ther .ij. daies.
4:41And manye more beleued because of his owne wordes,
4:42& sayd vnto the woman. Now we beleue not because of thy saying. For we haue heard hym oureselues, & knowe that thys is euen in dede Christe the Sauioure of the worlde.
4:43After .ij. daies he departed thence, and wente awaye into Galile.
4:44And Iesus hym selfe testifyed, that a Prophet hath no honoure in hys own countrye.
4:45Then assone as he was come into Galyle, the Galyleans receyued hym whych had sene al the thynges that he dyd at Hierusalem at the feaste. For they went also vnto the feaste daye.
4:46And Iesus came againe into Cana of Galile: wher he turned water into wine. And there was a certayne ruler, whose sonne was sicke at Capernaum.
4:47Assone as the same heard that Iesus was come out of Iury into Galile, he wente vnto hym, and besoughte hym, that he woulde descende and heale hys sonne: For he was euen ready to dye.
4:48Then sayed Iesus vnto hym: except ye se sygnes and wonders ye can not beleue.
4:49The ruler sayd vnto him: Syr come awaie or euer my chylde dye.
4:50Iesus sayd vnto hym: Go thy waie, thy sonne liueth. And the man beleued the wordes that Iesus had spoken vnto hym, and went hys way.
4:51And anone as he went on his waye, hys seruauntes mette hym and tolde hym sayinge, thy chylde lyueth.
4:52Then enquered he of them the houre when he began to amende, and they saied vnto hym: yester daye the seuenth houre the feuer lefte hym.
4:53And the father knewe that it was the same houre in whyche Iesus sayed vnto hym: Thy sonne lyueth. And he beleued and al his housholde.
4:54This is againe the, seconde miracle, that Iesus dyd after he was come out of Iury into Galile.

4:1As sone as the Lord knewe, how the Pharises had hearde, that Iesus made and baptised moo disciples then Iohn
4:2(though that Iesus him selfe baptised not: but his disciples)
4:3he lefte Iewry, and departed agayne into Galile.
4:4For it was so that he must nedes goo thorowe Samaria
4:5Then came he to a cytie of Samaria (which is called Sichar) Besydes the possessyon that Iacob gaue to his sonne Ioseph,
4:6And there was Iacobs well. Iesus then beyng werye of hys iorney, sate thus on the well. And it was about the syxte houre:
4:7and there came a woman of Samaria to drawe water. Iesus sayeth vnto her: geue me drinke.
4:8For his disciples were gone awaye vnto the towne, to bye meate.
4:9Then sayeth the woman of Samaria vnto him: howe is it, that thou beinge a Iewe, askest drincke of me, which am a Samaritane? For the Iewes medle not with the Samaritans.
4:10Iesus answered and sayde vnto hyr: yf thou knewest the gyfte of God, and who it is that sayeth to the geue me drincke, thou woldest haue asked of him, & he wolde haue geuen the water of lyfe.
4:11The woman sayeth vnto him: Syr, thou hast nothynge to drawe wyth, & the well is depe: from whence then hast thou that water of lyfe?
4:12Art thou greater then oure father Iacob which gaue vs the well, and he him selfe, drancke therof, and his children, and his catell?
4:13Iesus answered, and sayde vnto hyr: whosoeuer drincketh of thys water, shall thyrst agayne.
4:14But whosoeuer drincketh of the water that I shall geue him, shall neuer bemore a thyrst: but the water that I shall geue him, shalbe in him a well of water, spryngynge vp into euerlastinge lyfe.
4:15The woman sayeth vnto him: Syr, geue me of that water, that I thyrst not, nether come hyther to drawe.
4:16Iesus sayeth vnto her: Go, call thy husband, and come hyther.
4:17The woman answered and sayde vnto him: I haue no husband.
4:18Iesus sayde vnto her: Thou hast well sayd, I haue no husband. For thou hast had fyue husbandes, & he whom thou now hast, is not thy husband. In that saydest thou truely.
4:19The woman sayeth vnto hym: Syr, I perceaue that thou art a prophet.
4:20Oure fathers worshypped in thys mountayne & ye saye that in Ierusalem is the place, where men ought to worshyppe.
4:21Iesus sayeth vnto her: woman beleue me, the houre commeth, when ye shall (nether in this mountayne, nor yet at Ierusalem) worshyppe the fathers:
4:22Ye worsshyp ye wote not what: we knowe what we worshyppe. For saluaciom commeth of the Iewes.
4:23But the houre commeth & now is, when the true worshyppers shall worshyppe the father in sprete, & in the treuth. For such the father also requyreth to worshyppe hym.
4:24God is a sprete: and they that worshyppe hym, must worshyppe hym in sprete and in the treuth.
4:25The woman sayeth vnto him: I wote, that Messias shall come, whych is called Chryst. When he is come, he wyll tell vs all thynges Iesus sayeth vnto hyr.
4:26I that speake vnto the am he.
4:27And immediatly came hys disciples, & marueyled that he talked with the woman. Yet no man sayd: what meanest thou or why talkest thou with her?
4:28The woman then lefte her waterpot, and went her waye into the cytie, & sayeth to the men:
4:29Come, se a man whych tolde me all thynges that euer I dyd. Is not he Christ?
4:30Then they went out of the cytie, and came vnto him.
4:31In the meane whyle his disciples prayed him, saying: Master, eate.
4:32He sayde vnto them: I haue meate to eate, that ye knowe not of.
4:33Therfore sayde the disciples amonge them selues: hath eny man brought him ought to eate?
4:34Iesus sayeth vnto them: my meate is to do the will of him that sent me, & to fynisshe his worcke.
4:35Saye not ye: there are yet foure monethes, & then commeth haruest? Beholde I saye vnto you: lyfte vp youre eyes, and loke on the regions: for they are whyte all ready vnto haruest.
4:36And he that reapeth, receaueth rewarde, and gathereth frute vnto lyfe eternall: that both he that soweth, & he that reapeth, myght reioyse together.
4:37And herin is the saying true, that one soweth & another reapeth.
4:38I sent you to reape that wheron ye bestowed no laboure. Other men laboured, & ye are entred into their labours.
4:39Many of the Samaritans of that cytie beleued on him, for the saying of the woman, which testified that he tolde her all that euer she dyd.
4:40So, when the Samaritans were come vnto him, they besought him, that he wolde tary with them. And he abode there two dayes.
4:41And many moo beleued because of his awne wordes,
4:42and sayde vnto the woman. Now we beleue, not because of thy sayinge: for we haue herde him oure selues, and knowe that thys is euen Christ, the sauioure of the worlde.
4:43After two dayes he departed thence, and went awaye into Galile.
4:44For Iesus hym selfe testified, that a Prophete hath none honoure in his awne countre.
4:45Then, as sone as he was come into Galile, the Galileans receaued him: whan they had sene all the thynges that he dyd at Ierusalem at the daye of the feast. For they went also vnto the feast daye
4:46So Iesus cam agayne into Cana of Galile wher he turned the water into wyne. And ther was a certayne ruler, whose sonne was sycke at Capernaum.
4:47As sone as the same herde that Iesus was come out of Iewry into Galile, he went vnto him, & besought him, that he wolde come downe, and heale his sonne. For he was euen at the poynt of death.
4:48Then sayde Iesus vnto him: excepte ye se signes & wondres, ye wyll not beleue.
4:49The ruler sayeth vnto him: Syr, come downe, or euer that my sonne dye.
4:50Iesus sayeth vnto hym: Go thy waye, thy sonne lyueth. The man beleued the worde that Iesus had spoken vnto him. And he went his waye.
4:51And as he was now going downe, the seruauntes mett him, & tolde him, sayinge: thy sonne lyueth.
4:52Then enquyred he of them the houre, when he beganne to amende. And they sayd vnto him: Yester daye at the seuenth houre, the feuer lefte him.
4:53So the father knewe, that it was the same houre, in the which Iesus sayde vnto him: Thy sonne lyueth. And he beleued, and all his housholde.
4:54This is agayne the seconde myracle, that Iesus dyd, whan he was come out of Iewry into Galile.

4:1Nowe when the Lord knew, how the Pharises had heard, that Iesus made and baptized moe disciples then Iohn,
4:2(Though Iesus himselfe baptized not: but his disciples)
4:3Hee left Iudea, and departed againe into Galile.
4:4And he must needes goe through Samaria.
4:5Then came hee to a citie of Samaria called Sychar, neere vnto the possession that Iacob gaue to his sonne Ioseph.
4:6And there was Iacobs well. Iesus then wearied in the iourney, sate thus on the well: it was about the sixt houre.
4:7There came a woman of Samaria to drawe water. Iesus sayd vnto her, Giue me drinke.
4:8For his disciples were gone away into the citie, to buy meate.
4:9Then sayde the woman of Samaria vnto him, Howe is it, that thou being a Iewe, askest drinke of me, which am a woman of Samaria? For the Iewes meddle not with the Samaritans.
4:10Iesus answered and saide vnto her, If thou knewest that gift of God, and who it is that saieth to thee, Giue mee drinke, thou wouldest haue asked of him, and hee woulde haue giuen thee, water of life.
4:11The woman saide vnto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to drawe with, and the well is deepe: from whence then hast thou that water of life?
4:12Art thou greater then our father Iacob, which gaue vs the well, and hee himselfe dranke thereof, and his sonnes, and his cattell?
4:13Iesus answered, and said vnto her, Whosoeuer drinketh of this water, shall thirst againe:
4:14But whosoeuer drinketh of the water that I shall giue him, shall neuer be more a thirst: but the water that I shall giue him, shalbe in him a well of water, springing vp into euerlasting life.
4:15The woman said vnto him, Syr, giue me of that water, that I may not thirst, neither come hither to drawe.
4:16Iesus said vnto her, Go, call thine husband, and come hither.
4:17The woman answered, and saide, I haue no husband. Iesus said vnto her, Thou hast well said, I haue no husband.
4:18For thou hast had fiue husbands, and he whom thou nowe hast, is not thine husband: that saidest thou truely.
4:19The woman saide vnto him, Sir, I see that thou art a Prophet.
4:20Our fathers worshipped in this mountaine, and ye say, that in Ierusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
4:21Iesus saide vnto her, Woman, beleeue me, the houre commeth, when ye shall neither in this mountaine, nor at Hierusalem worship ye Father.
4:22Ye worship that which ye knowe not: we worship that which we knowe: for saluation is of the Iewes.
4:23But the houre commeth, and nowe is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit, and trueth: for the Father requireth euen such to worship him.
4:24God is a Spirite, and they that worship him, must worship him in spirit and trueth.
4:25The woman said vnto him, I knowe well that Messias shall come which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell vs all things.
4:26Iesus said vnto her, I am he, that speake vnto thee.
4:27And vpon that, came his disciples, and marueiled that he talked with a woman: yet no man said vnto him, What askest thou? or why talkest thou with her?
4:28The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the citie, and said to the men,
4:29Come, see a man which hath tolde me all things that euer I did: is not he that Christ?
4:30Then they went out of the citie, and came vnto him.
4:31In the meane while, the disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eate.
4:32But he said vnto them, I haue meate to eate that ye know not of.
4:33Then said ye disciples betweene themselues, Hath any man brought him meate?
4:34Iesus saide vnto them, My meate is that I may doe the will of him that sent me, and finish his worke.
4:35Say not ye, There are yet foure moneths, and then commeth haruest? Beholde, I say vnto you, Lift vp your eyes, and looke on the regions: for they are white alreadie vnto haruest.
4:36And he that reapeth, receiueth rewarde, and gathereth fruite vnto life eternall, that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth, might reioyce together.
4:37For herein is the saying true, that one soweth, and an other reapeth.
4:38I sent you to reape that, whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entred into their labours.
4:39Nowe many of the Samaritans of that citie beleeued in him, for the saying of the woman which testified, He hath tolde me all things that euer I did.
4:40Then when the Samaritans were come vnto him, they besought him, that he woulde tarie with them: and he abode there two dayes.
4:41And many moe beleeued because of his owne word.
4:42And they said vnto the woman, Nowe we beleeue, not because of thy saying: for we haue heard him our selues, and knowe that this is in deede that Christ the Sauiour of the world.
4:43So two dayes after he departed thence, and went into Galile.
4:44For Iesus himselfe had testified, that a Prophet hath none honour in his owne countrey.
4:45Then when he was come into Galile, the Galileans receiued him, which had seene all the things that he did at Hierusalem at the feast: for they went also vnto the feast.
4:46And Iesus came againe into Cana a towne of Galile, where he had made of water, wine. And there was a certaine ruler, whose sonne was sicke at Capernaum.
4:47When he heard that Iesus was come out of Iudea into Galile, he went vnto him, and besought him that he would goe downe, and heale his sonne: for he was euen ready to die.
4:48Then saide Iesus vnto him, Except ye see signes and wonders, ye will not beleeue.
4:49The ruler said vnto him, Syr, goe downe before my sonne dye.
4:50Iesus said vnto him, Go thy way, thy sonne liueth: and the man beleeued the worde that Iesus had spoken vnto him, and went his way.
4:51And as he was nowe going downe, his seruants met him, saying, Thy sonne liueth.
4:52Then enquired he of them the houre when he began to amend. And they said vnto him, Yesterday the seuenth houre the feuer left him.
4:53Then the father knew, that it was the same houre in the which Iesus had said vnto him, Thy sonne liueth. And he beleeued, and all his houshold.
4:54This second miracle did Iesus againe, after he was come out of Iudea into Galile.
