John - Chapter: 19

>
19:1Then Pylate toke Iesus therfore, & scourged hym.
19:2And the soudiers wounde a croune of thornes, and put it on hys heed. And they dyd on him a purple garment,
19:3and sayde: hayll kynge of the Iewes: and they smote hym on the face.
19:4Pylate went forth agayne, and sayde vnto them: beholde, I brynge hym forth to you, that ye maye know, that I fynde no faute in hym.
19:5Then came Iesus forth, wearynge a croune of thorne, and a robe of purple. And he sayeth vnto them: beholde the man.
19:6When the hye Prestes therfore and ministers sawe hym, they cryed sayinge: crucify him, crucify hym. Pylate sayeth vnto them: Take ye him, and crucify him: for I fynde no cause in him.
19:7The Iewes answered him: We haue a lawe, and by oure lawe he ought to dye: because he made him selfe the sonne of God.
19:8When Pylate hearde the sayinge, he was the moare afrayde,
19:9and went agayne into the iudgement hall, and sayeth vnto Iesus: whence arte thou? But Iesus gaue him none answere.
19:10Then sayde Pylate vnto him: Speakest thou not vnto me? Knowest thou not, that I haue power to crucify the, and haue power to loose the?
19:11Iesus answered: Thou couldest haue no power at all agaynst me, except it were geuen the from aboue. Therfore he that delyuered me vnto the, hath the more synne.
19:12And from thence forth sought Pylate meanes to loose hym: but the Iewes cryed sayinge: yf thou let him go, thou art not Cesars frende. For whosoeuer maketh hym selfe a kynge, is agaynst Cesar.
19:13When Pylate hearde that sayinge, he brought Iesus forth, and sate downe to geue sentence, in a place that is called the pauement: but in the Hebrue tonge, Gabbatha.
19:14It was the preparyng daye of the easter, aboute the syxte houre. And he sayeth vnto the Iewes: beholde youre king?
19:15They cryed, awaye wt him, awaye wt him, crucifye him. Pylate saieth vnto them: shall I crucifye your kyng? The hye prestes answered: we haue no kyng but Cesar.
19:16Then delyuered he hym vnto them, to be crucified. And they toke Iesus, and led hym away.
19:17And he bare hys crosse, and went forth into a place, which is called the place of deed mens sculles. But in Hebrue, Golgotha:
19:18where they crucified hym, and two other with hym; on ether syde one, and Iesus in the myddes.
19:19And Pylate wrote a tytle, & put it on the crosse. The wrytynge was. Iesus of Nazareth kynge of the Iewes.
19:20Thys tytle redd many of the Iewes. For the place where Iesus was crucyfyed, was nye to the cytye. And it was wrytten in Hebrue, and Greke and Latyn.
19:21Then sayde the hye prestes of the Iewes to Pylate: wrytte not kynge of the Iewes, but that he sayde, I am kynge of the Iewes:
19:22Pylate answered: what I haue wrytten, that haue I wrytten.
19:23Then the soudiers, when they had crucifyed Iesus, they toke his garmentes & made foure partes, to euery soudier a parte, & also hys coate. The coate was without seme, wrought vpon thorowe out.
19:24They sayd therfore amonge them selues: Lett vs not deuyde it, but cast lotes for it, who shall haue it. That the scrypture myght be fulfylled, sayinge: They parted my rayment amonge them, and for my coate dyd they cast lotes. And the soudiers dyd soch thynges in dede.
19:25There stode by the crosse of Iesus hys mother, and his mothers syster, Mary the wyfe of Cleophas, & Mary Magdalene.
19:26When Iesus therfore sawe his mother, & the disciple stondinge whom he loued, he sayeth vnto his mother: woman: beholde thy sonne.
19:27Then sayde he to the disciple: beholde thy mother. And from that houre the disciple toke her for hys awne.
19:28After these thinges, Iesus knowinge that all thinges were now performed: that the scripture myght be fulfylled: he sayeth: I thyrst
19:29So ther stode a vessel by, full of veneger. Therfore they fylled a sponge with veneger and wounde it about with ysope, and put it to his mouth.
19:30Assone as Iesus then receaued of the veneger, he sayde. It is fynisshed, & bowed his heed, and gaue vp the goost.
19:31The Iewes therfore because it was the preparing of the Sabboth, that the bodyes shuld not remayne vpon the crosse on the sabboth daye (for that sabboth daye was an hye daye) besought Pilate, that their legges might be broken and that they might be taken downe.
19:32Then came the soudiers, and brake the legges of the fyrst, and of the other which was crucyfied with him.
19:33But when they came to Iesus: and sawe that he was deed already, they brake not his legges:
19:34but one of the soudiers wt a speare, thrust him into the syde, and forth with came ther out bloude and water.
19:35And he that sawe it, bare recorde, & hys record is true. And he knoweth that he sayth true, that ye might beleue also.
19:36For these thinges were done, that the scripture shulde be fulfylled. Ye shall not breake a bone of him.
19:37And agayne another scripture sayeth: they shal loke on him, whom they pearsed.
19:38After this, Ioseph of Aramathia (which was a disciple of Iesus: but secretly for feare of the Iewes) besought Pilate, that he might take downe the body of Iesus. And Pilate gaue him licence.
19:39And ther cam also Nicodemus (which at the begynnynge came to Iesus by night) & brought of myrre and aloes mingled together, aboute an hundred pounde wayght.
19:40Then toke they the body of Iesu, & wounde it in lynnen clothes wt the odoures, as the maner of the Iewes is to bury.
19:41And in the place where he was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a newe sepulchre, wherin was neuer man layd.
19:42There layde they Iesus therfore, because of the preparinge of the Sabboth of the Iewes for the sepulchre was nye at hande.

19:1Therfor Pilat took thanne Jhesu, and scourgide.
19:2And kniytis writhen a coroun of thornes, and setten on his heed, and diden aboute hym a cloth of purpur,
19:3and camen to him, and seiden, Heil, kyng of Jewis. And thei yauen to him buffatis.
19:4Eftsoone Pilat wente out, and seide to hem, Lo! Y brynge hym out to you, that ye knowe, that Y fynde no cause in him.
19:5And so Jhesus wente out, berynge a coroun of thornes, and a cloth of purpur. And he seith to hem, Lo! the man.
19:6But whanne the bischopis and mynystris hadden seyn hym, thei crieden, and seiden, Crucifie, crucifie hym. Pilat seith to hem, Take ye hym, and crucifie ye, for Y fynde no cause in hym.
19:7The Jewis answeriden to hym. We han a lawe, and bi the lawe he owith to die, for he made hym Goddis sone.
19:8Therfor whanne Pilat hadde herd this word, he dredde the more.
19:9And he wente in to the moot halle eftsoone, and seide to Jhesu, Of whennus art thou? But Jhesus yaf noon answere to him.
19:10Pilat seith to him, Spekist thou not to me? Woost thou not, that Y haue power to crucifie thee, and Y haue power to delyuere thee?
19:11Jhesus answeride, Thou schuldist not `haue ony power ayens me, but it were youun to thee from aboue; therfor he that bitook me to thee, hath the more synne.
19:12Fro that tyme Pilat souyte to delyuere hym; but the Jewis crieden, and seiden, If thou delyuerist this man, thou art not the emperouris freend; for ech man that makith hym silf king, ayen seith the emperoure.
19:13And Pilat, whanne he hadde herd these wordis, ledde Jhesu forth, and sat for domesman in a place, that is seid Licostratos, but in Ebrew Golgatha.
19:14And it was pask eue, as it were the sixte our. And he seith to the Jewis, Lo! youre king.
19:15But thei crieden, and seiden, Take awei, take awei; crucifie him. Pilat seith to hem, Schal I crucifie youre king? The bischops answeriden, We han no king but the emperour.
19:16And thanne Pilat bitook him to hem, that he schulde be crucified. And thei token Jhesu, and ledden him out.
19:17And he bar to hym silf a cros, and wente out in to that place, that is seid of Caluarie, in Ebreu Golgatha;
19:18where thei crucifieden him, and othere tweyne with him, oon on this side and oon on that side, and Jhesus in the myddil.
19:19And Pilat wroot a title, and sette on the cros; and it was writun, Jhesu of Nazareth, king of Jewis.
19:20Therfor manye of the Jewis redden this title, for the place where Jhesus was crucified, was niy the citee, and it was writun in Ebreu, Greek, and Latyn.
19:21Therfor the bischops of the Jewis seiden to Pilat, Nyle thou write kyng of Jewis, but for he seide, Y am king of Jewis.
19:22Pilat answeride, That that Y haue writun, Y haue writun.
19:23Therfor the knyytis whanne thei hadden crucified hym, token hise clothis, and maden foure partis, to ech knyyt a part, and a coot. And the coot was without seem, and wouun al aboute.
19:24Therfor thei seiden togidere, Kitte we not it, but caste we lot, whos it is; that the scripture be fulfillid, seiynge, Thei partiden my clothis to hem, and on my cloth thei casten lot. And the kniytis diden these thingis.
19:25But bisidis the cros of Jhesu stoden his modir, and the sistir of his modir, Marie Cleofe, and Marie Maudeleyne.
19:26Therfor whanne Jhesu hadde seyn his modir, and the disciple stondynge, whom he louyde, he seith to hise modir, Womman, lo thi sone.
19:27Aftyrward he seith to the disciple, Lo! thi modir. And fro that our the disciple took hir in to his modir.
19:28Aftirward Jhesus witynge, that now alle thingis ben endid, that the scripture were fulfillid, he seith, Y thirste.
19:29And a vessel was set ful of vynegre. And thei `leiden in isope aboute the spounge ful of vynegre, and putten to his mouth.
19:30Therfor whanne Jhesus hadde `takun the vynegre, he seid, It is endid. And `whanne his heed was bowid doun, `he yaf vp the goost.
19:31Therfor for it was the pask eue, that the bodies schulden not abide on the cros in the sabat, for that was a greet sabat dai, the Jewis preiden Pilat, that the hipis of hem schulden be brokun, and thei takun awei.
19:32Therfor knyytis camen, and thei braken the thies of the firste, and of the tothere, that was crucified with hym.
19:33But whanne thei weren comun to Jhesu, as thei sayn him deed thanne, thei braken not hise thies;
19:34but oon of the knyytis openyde his side with a spere, and anoon blood and watir wenten out.
19:35And he that saiy, bare witnessyng, and his witnessing is trewe; and he woot that he seith trewe thingis, that ye bileue.
19:36And these thingis weren don, that the scripture schulde be fulfillid, Ye schulen not breke a boon of hym.
19:37And eftsoone another scripture seith, Thei schulen se in whom thei piyten thorow.
19:38But after these thingis Joseph of Armathi preyede Pilat, that he schulde take awei the bodi of Jhesu, for that he was a disciple of Jhesu, but priui for drede of the Jewis. And Pilat suffride. And so he cam, and took awei the bodi of Jhesu.
19:39And Nychodeme cam also, that hadde come to hym first bi nyyt, and brouyte a meddlynge of myrre and aloes, as it were an hundrid pound.
19:40And thei token the bodi of Jhesu, and boundun it in lynun clothis with swete smellynge oynementis, as it is custom to Jewis for to birie.
19:41And in the place where he was crucified, was a yerd, and in the yerd a newe graue, in which yit no man was leid.
19:42Therfor there thei putten Jhesu, for the vigilie of Jewis feeste, for the sepulcre was niy.

19:1Then Pilate toke Iesus, and scourged him.
19:2And the soudyers platted a crowne of thornes, and set it vpon his heade, and put a purple garment vpon him,
19:3and sayde: Hayle kynge of the Iewes. And they smote him on the face.
19:4Then wente Pilate forth agayne, and sayde vnto the: Beholde, I brynge him forth vnto you, yt ye maye knowe, yt I fynde no faute in hi.
19:5So Iesus wente out, & ware a crowne of thorne and a purple robe. And he sayde vnto them: Beholde, the man.
19:6Whan the hye prestes & the mynisters sawe him, they cryed, & sayde: Crucifye, crucifye. Pilate saide vnto the: Take ye him, and crucifye him, for I fynde no giltynesse in him.
19:7The Iewes answered him: We haue a lawe, & after oure lawe he ought to dye, because he made him self the sonne of God.
19:8Whan Pilate herde that worde, he was the more afrayed,
19:9and wente agayne in to the comon hall, and sayde vnto Iesus: Whence art thou? But Iesus gaue him no answere.
19:10The sayde Pilate vnto him: Speakest thou not vnto me? Knowest thou not, yt I haue power to crucifye ye, & haue power to lowse ye?
19:11Iesus answered: Thou shuldest haue no power vpo me, yf it were not geue the from aboue. Therfore he that delyuered me vnto ye, hath the more synne.
19:12From that tyme forth Pilate sought meanes to lowse him. But the Iewes cryed, & sayde: Yf thou let him go, thou art not the Emperours frede. For whosoeuer maketh himself kynge, is agaynst the Emperoure.
19:13Whan Pilate herde yt worde, he brought Iesus forth, & sat hi downe vpo ye iugdmet seate, in the place which is called the Pauement, but in the Hebrue, Gabbatha.
19:14It was the daye of preparinge of the Easter aboute the sixte houre. And he sayde vnto the Iewes: Beholde yor kynge.
19:15But they cryed: Awaye wt him, awaye wt him, crucifie him. Pilate saide vnto the: Shal I crucifye yor kynge? The hye prestes answered: We haue no kynge but ye Emperor.
19:16The delyuered he him vnto them, to be crucifyed. They toke Iesus, and led him awaye.
19:17And he bare his crosse, and wente out to the place called ye place of deed men skulles, which in Hebrue is named Golgatha,
19:18where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either syde one, but Iesus in the myddes
19:19Pilate wrote a superscripcion, and set vpon the crosse. And there was wrytten: Iesus of Nazareth, kynge of the Iewes.
19:20This superscripcion red many of the Iewes. For ye place where Iesus was crucifyed, was nye vnto the cite. And it was wrytten in Hebrue, Greke & Latyn.
19:21Then sayde the hye prestes of the Iewes vnto Pilate: Wryte not kynge of the Iewes, but yt he sayde, I am kynge of the Iewes.
19:22Pilate answered: What I haue wrytten, that haue I wrytten.
19:23The sondyers, whan they had crucifyed Iesus, toke his garmentes, and made foure partes, to euery soudyer one patte, and the cote also. As for the cote, it was vnsowed fro aboue, wrought thorow and thorow.
19:24Then sayde they one to another: Let vs not deuyde it, but cast lottes for it, who shal haue it, that the scripture might be fulfilled, which sayeth: They haue parted my garmentes amonge them, and on my cote haue they cast lottes. This dyd the soudyers
19:25There stode by the crosse of Iesus, his mother, and his mothers sister Mary, the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
19:26Now whan Iesus sawe his mother, and the disciple stondynge by, who he loued, he sayde vnto his mother: Woman, beholde, that is thy sonne.
19:27Then sayde he to the disciple: beholde, that is thy mother. And from that houre the disciple toke her vnto him.
19:28After that whan Iesus knewe that all was perfourmed, that the scripture might be fulfylled, he sayde: I am a thyrst.
19:29There stode a vessell full of vyneger. They fylled a sponge with vyneger and wonde it aboute with ysope, and helde it to his mouth.
19:30Now whan Iesus had receaued the vyneger, he sayde: It is fynished, and bowed his heade, and gaue vp the goost.
19:31The Iewes then, for so moch as it was the daye of preparinge, that ye bodies shulde not remayne vpon the crosse on the Sabbath, (for ye same Sabbath daye was greate) besought Pilate, that their legges might be broken, and that they might be taken downe
19:32Then came the soudyers, and brake the legges of the first, and of the other that was crucifyed with him.
19:33But whan they came to Iesus, and sawe that he was deed allready, they brake not his legges,
19:34but one of the soudyers opened his syde with a speare. And immediatly there wente out bloude and water.
19:35And he that sawe it, bare recorde, and his recorde is true. And he knoweth that he sayeth true, that ye might beleue also.
19:36For this is done, yt the scripture might be fulfylled: Ye shal not breake a bone of him.
19:37And agayne, another scripture sayeth: They shal se him, whom they haue pearsed.
19:38After that, Ioseph of Arimathia, which was a disciple of Iesus (but secretly for feare of the Iewes) besought Pilate, yt he might take downe the body of Iesus. And Pilate gaue him lycence.
19:39There came also Nicodemus, (which afore came vnto Iesus by night) & brought of Myrre & Aloes mingled together, aboute an hudreth poude weight.
19:40The toke they the body of Iesus, & wonde it with lynnen clothes, and with the spyces, as the maner of the Iewes is to burye.
19:41And by ye place where Iesus was crucified, there was a garde, and in the garden a new sepulchre, where in was neuer man layed:
19:42there layed they Iesus, because of the preparinge daye of ye Iewes, for the sepulcre was nye at hande.
