John - Chapter: 19

>
19:1Then, therefore, did Pilate take Jesus and scourge `him',
19:2and the soldiers having plaited a crown of thorns, did place `it' on his head, and a purple garment they put around him,
19:3and said, `Hail! the king of the Jews;' and they were giving him slaps.
19:4Pilate, therefore, again went forth without, and saith to them, `Lo, I do bring him to you without, that ye may know that in him I find no fault;'
19:5Jesus, therefore, came forth without, bearing the thorny crown and the purple garment; and he saith to them, `Lo, the man!'
19:6When, therefore, the chief priests and the officers did see him, they cried out, saying, `Crucify, crucify;' Pilate saith to them, `Take ye him -- ye, and crucify; for I find no fault in him;'
19:7the Jews answered him, `We have a law, and according to our law he ought to die, for he made himself Son of God.'
19:8When, therefore, Pilate heard this word, he was the more afraid,
19:9and entered again to the praetorium, and saith to Jesus, `Whence art thou?' and Jesus gave him no answer.
19:10Pilate, therefore, saith to him, `To me dost thou not speak? hast thou not known that I have authority to crucify thee, and I have authority to release thee?'
19:11Jesus answered, `Thou wouldst have no authority against me, if it were not having been given thee from above; because of this, he who is delivering me up to thee hath greater sin.'
19:12From this `time' was Pilate seeking to release him, and the Jews were crying out, saying, `If this one thou mayest release, thou art not a friend of Caesar; every one making himself a king, doth speak against Caesar.'
19:13Pilate, therefore, having heard this word, brought Jesus without -- and he sat down upon the tribunal -- to a place called, `Pavement,' and in Hebrew, Gabbatha;
19:14and it was the preparation of the passover, and as it were the sixth hour, and he saith to the Jews, `Lo, your king!'
19:15and they cried out, `Take away, take away, crucify him;' Pilate saith to them, `Your king shall I crucify?' the chief priests answered, `We have no king except Caesar.'
19:16Then, therefore, he delivered him up to them, that he may be crucified, and they took Jesus and led `him' away,
19:17and bearing his cross, he went forth to the place called `Place' of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew Golgotha;
19:18where they crucified him, and with him two others, on this side, and on that side, and Jesus in the midst.
19:19And Pilate also wrote a title, and put `it' on the cross, and it was written, `Jesus the Nazarene, the king of the Jews;'
19:20this title, therefore, read many of the Jews, because the place was nigh to the city where Jesus was crucified, and it was having been written in Hebrew, in Greek, in Roman.
19:21The chief priests of the Jews said, therefore, to Pilate, `Write not -- The king of the Jews, but that one said, I am king of the Jews;'
19:22Pilate answered, `What I have written, I have written.'
19:23The soldiers, therefore, when they did crucify Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to each soldier a part, also the coat, and the coat was seamless, from the top woven throughout,
19:24they said, therefore, to one another, `We may not rend it, but cast a lot for it, whose it shall be;' that the Writing might be fulfilled, that is saying, `They divided my garments to themselves, and upon my raiment they did cast a lot;' the soldiers, therefore, indeed, did these things.
19:25And there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary of Cleopas, and Mary the Magdalene;
19:26Jesus, therefore, having seen `his' mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he was loving, he saith to his mother, `Woman, lo, thy son;'
19:27afterward he saith to the disciple, `Lo, thy mother;' and from that hour the disciple took her to his own `home'.
19:28After this, Jesus knowing that all things now have been finished, that the Writing may be fulfilled, saith, `I thirst;'
19:29a vessel, therefore, was placed full of vinegar, and they having filled a sponge with vinegar, and having put `it' around a hyssop stalk, did put `it' to his mouth;
19:30when, therefore, Jesus received the vinegar, he said, `It hath been finished;' and having bowed the head, gave up the spirit.
19:31The Jews, therefore, that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath, since it was the preparation, (for that sabbath day was a great one,) asked of Pilate that their legs may be broken, and they taken away.
19:32The soldiers, therefore, came, and of the first indeed they did break the legs, and of the other who was crucified with him,
19:33and having come to Jesus, when they saw him already having been dead, they did not break his legs;
19:34but one of the soldiers with a spear did pierce his side, and immediately there came forth blood and water;
19:35and he who hath seen hath testified, and his testimony is true, and that one hath known that true things he speaketh, that ye also may believe.
19:36For these things came to pass, that the Writing may be fulfilled, `A bone of him shall not be broken;'
19:37and again another Writing saith, `They shall look to him whom they did pierce.'
19:38And after these things did Joseph of Arimathea -- being a disciple of Jesus, but concealed, through the fear of the Jews -- ask of Pilate, that he may take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave leave; he came, therefore, and took away the body of Jesus,
19:39and Nicodemus also came -- who came unto Jesus by night at the first -- bearing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, as it were, a hundred pounds.
19:40They took, therefore, the body of Jesus, and bound it with linen clothes with the spices, according as it was the custom of the Jews to prepare for burial;
19:41and there was in the place where he was crucified a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one was yet laid;
19:42there, therefore, because of the preparation of the Jews, because the tomb was nigh, they laid Jesus.

19:1Then Pylate toke Iesus and scourged him.
19:2And ye soudiers wounde a croune of thornes and put it on his heed. And they dyd on him a purple garment
19:3and sayd: hayll kynge of the Iewes: and they smote him on the face.
19:4Pylate went forthe agayne and sayde vnto them: beholde I bringe him forth to you that ye maye knowe that I fynde no faute in him.
19:5Then came Iesus forthe wearynge a croune of thorne and a robe of purple. And Pylate sayd vnto them: beholde ye man.
19:6When the hye Prestes and ministres sawe him they cryed sayinge: crucify him crucify him. Pylate sayde vnto them. Take ye him and crucify him: for I fynde no cause in him.
19:7The Iewes answered him. We have a lawe and by oure lawe he ought to dye: because he made him selfe the sonne of God.
19:8 When Pylate hearde that sayinge he was the moare afrayde
19:9and went agayne into ye iudgment hall and sayde vnto Iesus: whence arte thou? But Iesus gave him none answere.
19:10Then sayde Pylate vnto him. Speakest thou not vnto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify the and have power to lowse the?
19:11Iesus answered: Thou couldest have no power at all agaynst me except it were geven the from above. Therfore he yt delyvered me vnto the is moare in synne.
19:12And from thence forthe sought Pylate meanes to lowse him: but the Iewes cryed sayinge: yf thou let him goo thou arte not Cesars frende. For whosoever maketh hi selfe a kynge is agaynst Cesar
19:13When Pylate hearde yt sayinge he brought Iesus forthe and sate doune to geve sentece in a place called the pavement: but in the Hebrue tonge Gabbatha.
19:14It was the Saboth even which falleth in the ester fest and aboute the sixte houre. And he sayde vnto the Iewes: beholde youre kynge.
19:15They cryed awaye with him awaye with him crucify him. Pylate sayde vnto them. Shall I crucify youre kynge? The hye Prestes answered: we have no kynge but Cesar.
19:16Then delyvered he him vnto them to be crucified. And they toke Iesus and led him awaye.
19:17And he bare his crosse and went forthe into a place called the place of deed mens sculles which is named in Hebrue Golgatha.
19:18Where they crucified him and two other with him on ether syde one and Iesus in the myddes.
19:19And Pylate wrote his tytle and put it on the crosse. The writynge was Iesus of Nazareth kynge of the Iewes.
19:20This tytle reed many of the Iewes. For the place where Iesus was crucified was nye to the cite. And it was written in Hebrue Greke and Latyn.
19:21Then sayde the hye prestes of ye Iewes to Pylate: wryte not kynge of the Iewes: but that he sayde I am kynge of the Iewes.
19:22Pylate answered: what I have written that have I written.
19:23Then the soudiers when they had crucified Iesus toke his garmentes and made foure partes to every soudier a parte and also his coote. The coote was with out seme wrought vpon thorowe out.
19:24And they sayde one to another. Let vs not devyde it: but cast loostes who shall have it That the scripture myght be fulfilled which sayth. They parted my rayment amonge them and on my coote dyd cast lottes. And the soudiers dyd soche thinges in dede.
19:25Ther stode by the crosse of Iesus his mother and his mothers sister Mary the wyfe of Cleophas and Mary Magdalene.
19:26When Iesus sawe his mother and the disciple stondynge whom he loved he sayde vnto his mother: woman beholde thy sonne.
19:27Then sayde he to ye disciple: beholde thy mother. And fro that houre the disciple toke her for his awne.
19:28After that when Iesus perceaved that all thinges were performed: that the scripture myght be fulfilled he sayde: I thyrst.
19:29Ther stode a vessell full of veneger by. And they filled a sponge with veneger and wounde it about with ysope and put it to his mouth.
19:30Assone as Iesus had receaved of the veneger he sayd: It is fynesshed and bowed his heed and gaue vp the goost.
19:31The Iewes then because it was the saboth eve that ye bodyes shuld not remayne apon ye crosse on ye saboth daye (for that saboth daye was an hye daye) besought Pylate that their legges myght be broken and that they myght be taken doune.
19:32Then came the soudiers and brake the legges of the fyrst and of the other which was crucified with Iesus.
19:33But when they came to Iesus and sawe that he was deed already they brake not his legges:
19:34but one of the soudiers with a speare thrust him into the syde and forthwith came ther out bloud and water.
19:35And he that sawe it bare recorde and his recorde is true. And he knoweth that he sayth true that ye myght beleve also.
19:36These thinges were done that the scripture shuld be fulfilled: Ye shall not breake a boone of him.
19:37And agayne another scripture sayth: They shall looke on him whom they pearsed.
19:38After that Ioseph of Aramathia (which was a disciple of Iesus: but secretly for feare of ye Iewes) besought Pylate that he myght take doune the body of Iesus. And Pylate gave him licence.
19:39And ther cam also Nicodemus which at the beginnynge came to Iesus by nyght and brought of myrre and aloes mingled to gether aboute an hundred pounde wayght
19:40Then toke they the body of Iesu and wounde it in lynnen clothes with the odoures as ye maner of the Iewes is to bury.
19:41And in the place where Iesus was crucified was a garden and in ye garden a newe sepulchre wherin was never man layd.
19:42There layde they Iesus because of the Iewes saboth even for the sepulcre was nye at honde.

19:1Then Pilate toke Iesus, and scourged him.
19:2And the soudyers platted a crowne of thornes, and set it vpon his heade, and put a purple garment vpon him,
19:3and sayde: Hayle kynge of the Iewes. And they smote him on the face.
19:4Then wente Pilate forth agayne, and sayde vnto the: Beholde, I brynge him forth vnto you, yt ye maye knowe, yt I fynde no faute in hi.
19:5So Iesus wente out, & ware a crowne of thorne and a purple robe. And he sayde vnto them: Beholde, the man.
19:6Whan the hye prestes & the mynisters sawe him, they cryed, & sayde: Crucifye, crucifye. Pilate saide vnto the: Take ye him, and crucifye him, for I fynde no giltynesse in him.
19:7The Iewes answered him: We haue a lawe, & after oure lawe he ought to dye, because he made him self the sonne of God.
19:8Whan Pilate herde that worde, he was the more afrayed,
19:9and wente agayne in to the comon hall, and sayde vnto Iesus: Whence art thou? But Iesus gaue him no answere.
19:10The sayde Pilate vnto him: Speakest thou not vnto me? Knowest thou not, yt I haue power to crucifye ye, & haue power to lowse ye?
19:11Iesus answered: Thou shuldest haue no power vpo me, yf it were not geue the from aboue. Therfore he that delyuered me vnto ye, hath the more synne.
19:12From that tyme forth Pilate sought meanes to lowse him. But the Iewes cryed, & sayde: Yf thou let him go, thou art not the Emperours frede. For whosoeuer maketh himself kynge, is agaynst the Emperoure.
19:13Whan Pilate herde yt worde, he brought Iesus forth, & sat hi downe vpo ye iugdmet seate, in the place which is called the Pauement, but in the Hebrue, Gabbatha.
19:14It was the daye of preparinge of the Easter aboute the sixte houre. And he sayde vnto the Iewes: Beholde yor kynge.
19:15But they cryed: Awaye wt him, awaye wt him, crucifie him. Pilate saide vnto the: Shal I crucifye yor kynge? The hye prestes answered: We haue no kynge but ye Emperor.
19:16The delyuered he him vnto them, to be crucifyed.They toke Iesus, and led him awaye.
19:17And he bare his crosse, and wente out to the place called ye place of deed men skulles, which in Hebrue is named Golgatha,
19:18where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either syde one, but Iesus in the myddes
19:19Pilate wrote a superscripcion, and set vpon the crosse. And there was wrytten: Iesus of Nazareth, kynge of the Iewes.
19:20This superscripcion red many of the Iewes. For ye place where Iesus was crucifyed, was nye vnto the cite. And it was wrytten in Hebrue, Greke & Latyn.
19:21Then sayde the hye prestes of the Iewes vnto Pilate: Wryte not kynge of the Iewes, but yt he sayde, I am kynge of the Iewes.
19:22Pilate answered: What I haue wrytten, that haue I wrytten.
19:23The sondyers, whan they had crucifyed Iesus, toke his garmentes, and made foure partes, to euery soudyer one patte, and the cote also. As for the cote, it was vnsowed fro aboue, wrought thorow and thorow.
19:24Then sayde they one to another: Let vs not deuyde it, but cast lottes for it, who shal haue it, that the scripture might be fulfilled, which sayeth: They haue parted my garmentes amonge them, and on my cote haue they cast lottes. This dyd the soudyers
19:25There stode by the crosse of Iesus, his mother, and his mothers sister Mary, the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
19:26Now whan Iesus sawe his mother, and the disciple stondynge by, who he loued, he sayde vnto his mother: Woman, beholde, that is thy sonne.
19:27Then sayde he to the disciple: beholde, that is thy mother. And from that houre the disciple toke her vnto him.
19:28After that whan Iesus knewe that all was perfourmed, that the scripture might be fulfylled, he sayde: I am a thyrst.
19:29There stode a vessell full of vyneger. They fylled a sponge with vyneger and wonde it aboute with ysope, and helde it to his mouth.
19:30Now whan Iesus had receaued the vyneger, he sayde: It is fynished, and bowed his heade, and gaue vp the goost.
19:31The Iewes then, for so moch as it was the daye of preparinge, that ye bodies shulde not remayne vpon the crosse on the Sabbath, (for ye same Sabbath daye was greate) besought Pilate, that their legges might be broken, and that they might be taken downe
19:32Then came the soudyers, and brake the legges of the first, and of the other that was crucifyed with him.
19:33But whan they came to Iesus, and sawe that he was deed allready, they brake not his legges,
19:34but one of the soudyers opened his syde with a speare. And immediatly there wente out bloude and water.
19:35And he that sawe it, bare recorde, and his recorde is true. And he knoweth that he sayeth true, that ye might beleue also.
19:36For this is done, yt the scripture might be fulfylled: Ye shal not breake a bone of him.
19:37And agayne, another scripture sayeth: They shal se him, whom they haue pearsed.
19:38After that, Ioseph of Arimathia, which was a disciple of Iesus (but secretly for feare of the Iewes) besought Pilate, yt he might take downe the body of Iesus. And Pilate gaue him lycence.
19:39There came also Nicodemus, (which afore came vnto Iesus by night) & brought of Myrre & Aloes mingled together, aboute an hudreth poude weight.
19:40The toke they the body of Iesus, & wonde it with lynnen clothes, and with the spyces, as the maner of the Iewes is to burye.
19:41And by ye place where Iesus was crucified, there was a garde, and in the garden a new sepulchre, where in was neuer man layed:
19:42there layed they Iesus, because of the preparinge daye of ye Iewes, for the sepulcre was nye at hande.
