Acts - Chapter: 2

>
2:1When the fyftye dayes were come to an ende, they were all with one accorde together in one place.
2:2And sodenly ther came a sounde from heauen, as it had bene the commynge of a myghty wynde, and it fylled all the house where they sate.
2:3And there appered vnto them clouen tonges, lyke as they had bene of fyer, and it sate vpon eache one of them:
2:4and they were all fylled with the holy goost, and beganne to speake with other tonges, euen as the same sprete gaue them vtteraunce.
2:5Ther were dwellyng at Ierusalem, Iewes, deuoute men, out of euery nacyon of them that are vnder heauen.
2:6When thys was noysed aboute, the multitude came together, & were astonnyed, because that euery man hearde them speake with his awne langage.
2:7They wondred all, and marueyled, sayinge among them selues: beholde, are not all these which speake, of Galile?
2:8And how heare we euery man his awne tong, wherin we were borne?
2:9Parthians, and Medes and Elamytes, and the inhabiters of Mesopotamia, and of Iury, and of Capadocia, of Ponthus and Asia,
2:10Phrygia, and Pamphilia, of Egypte, and of the partyes of Lybia which is besyd? Syren, and straungers of Rome, Iewes & Proselites.
2:11Grekes and Arabians: we haue herd them speake in oure awne tonges the greate worckes of God.
2:12They were all amased, and wondred sayinge one to another: what meaneth this?
2:13Other mocked, sayinge: these men are full of new wyne.
2:14But Peter stepped forth with the eleuen, and lyft vp his voyce, and sayde vnto them: Ye men of Iewrye, and all ye that dwell at Ierusalem: be this knowen vnto you, & with youre eares heare my wordes.
2:15For these are not droncken, as ye suppose, seynge it is but the thyrde houre of the daye.
2:16But this it that which was spoken by the Prophete Iohel:
2:17And it shalbe in the last dayes, sayth God: of my sprete I wyll poore out vpon all flesshe. And youre sonnes & youre daughters shall prophesy, and youre yonge men shall se vysyons, and youre olde men shall dreame dreames.
2:18And on my seruauntes, & on my hande maydens I wyll poore out of my sprete in those dayes, and they shall prophesye.
2:19And I wyll shewe wonders in heauen aboue, and tokens in the erth beneth, bloud and fyre and the vapour of smoke.
2:20The sunne shalbe turned into darcknes, & the moone into bloude, before that great and notable daye of the Lorde come.
2:21And it shall come to passe, that whosoeuer shall call on the name of the Lorde, shalbe saued.
2:22Ye men of Israel, heare these wordes: Iesus of Nazareth a man aproued of God amonge you with myracles, wonders and sygnes, which God dyd by hym in the myddes of you (as ye youre selues knowe)
2:23hym haue ye taken by the handes of vnryghtewes persones, after he was delyuered by the determinat counsell & foreknowledge of God, & haue crucifyed and slayne him:
2:24whom God hath raysed vp, & loosed the sorowes of deeth, because it was vnpossible, that he shulde be holden of it.
2:25For Dauid speaketh of him. A fore hande I sawe God alwayes before me: for he is on my ryght hande, that I shulde not be moued.
2:26Therfore dyd my hert reioyce, & my tonge was glad. Moreouer also my flesshe shall rest in hope,
2:27because thou wilt not leaue my soule in hell, nether wilt thou suffre thine holye to se corrupcion.
2:28Thou hast shewed me the wayes of lyfe, thou shalt make me full of ioye with thy countenaunce.
2:29Ye men and brethren, let me frely speake vnto you of the patriarke Dauid: For he is both deed and buryed, and hys sepulchre remayneth with vs vnto this daye.
2:30Therfore, seinge he was a Prophet, and knewe that God had sworne with an othe to him, that Christ (as concerninge the flessh) shulde come of the frute of his loynes, and on hys seat,
2:31he knowyng this before, spake of the resurreccyon of Chryst, that his soule shulde not be left in hell: nether hys flesshe shulde se corrupcyon.
2:32This Iesus hath God raysed vp, wherof we all are witnesses.
2:33Sence now that he by the ryght hande of God exalted is, and hath receaued of the father the promyse of the holy Goost, he hath sheed forth thys which ye now se and heare.
2:34For Dauid is not ascendyd into heuen: but he sayeth: The Lord sayde to my Lorde: syt thou on my ryght hand,
2:35vntyll I make thy fooes thy fote stole.
2:36So therfore, let all the house of Israel knowe for a suerty, that God hath made that same Iesus (whom ye haue crucified) Lorde and Chryst.
2:37When they hearde this, they were pricked in their hertes, and sayd vnto Peter, & vnto the other Apostles: Ye men & brethren what shall we do?
2:38Peter sayde vnto them: repent of youre synnes, and be baptysed euery one of you in the name of Iesus Chryst for the remission of synnes, and ye shall receaue the gyfte of the holy goost.
2:39For the promyse was made vnto you and to youre chyldren, and to all that are a farre of, euen as many as the Lorde oure God shall call.
2:40And with many other wordes bare he witnes, and exhorted them, sayinge: Saue youre selues from this vntowarde generacion.
2:41Then they that gladly receaued his preachinge, were baptised: and the same daye, ther were added vnto them aboute thre thousande soules.
2:42And they continued in the Apostles doctrine and felowshyp, & in breakynge of bread, and in prayers.
2:43And feare came ouer euery soule. And many wondres & signes were shewed by the Apostles.
2:44And all that beleued, kept them selues together, & had all thynges commen,
2:45and solde their possessions and goodes, and parted them to all men, as euery man had nede.
2:46And they continued dayly with one accorde in the temple, & brake bread from house to house, & dyd eate their meate together, wt gladnes & singlenes of hert,
2:47praysinge God, and had fauour with all the people. And the Lorde added to the congregacion dayly, soch as shulde be saued.

2:1And whanne the daies of Pentecost weren fillid, alle the disciplis weren togidre in the same place.
2:2And sodeynli ther was maad a sown fro heuene, as of a greet wynde comynge, and it fillide al the hous where thei saten.
2:3And diuerse tungis as fier apperiden to hem, and it sat on ech of hem.
2:4And alle weren fillid with the Hooli Goost, and thei bigunnen to speke diuerse langagis, as the Hooli Goost yaf to hem for to speke.
2:5And ther weren in Jerusalem dwellinge Jewis, religiouse men, of ech nacioun that is vndur heuene.
2:6And whanne this vois was maad, the multitude cam togidere, and thei weren astonyed in thouyt, for ech man herde hem spekinge in his langage.
2:7And alle weren astonyed, and wondriden, and seiden togidere, Whether not alle these that speken ben men of Galyle,
2:8and hou herden we ech man his langage in which we ben borun?
2:9Parthi, and Medi, and Elamyte, and thei that dwellen at Mesopotami, Judee, and Capodosie, and Ponte,
2:10and Asie, Frigie, and Pamfilie, Egipt, and the parties of Libie, that is aboue Sirenen, and `comelingis Romayns, and Jewis,
2:11and proselitis, men of Crete, and of Arabie, we han herd hem spekynge in oure langagis the grete thingis of God.
2:12And alle weren astonyed, and wondriden, `and seiden togidere, What wole this thing be?
2:13And othere scorneden, and seiden, For these men ben ful of must.
2:14But Petre stood with the enleuene, and reiside vp his vois, and spak to hem, Ye Jewis, and alle that dwellen at Jerusalem, be this knowun to you, and with eris perseyue ye my wordis.
2:15For not as ye wenen, these ben dronkun, whanne it is the thridde our of the dai;
2:16but this it is, that was seid bi the prophete Johel,
2:17And it schal be in the laste daies, the Lord seith, Y schal helde out my spirit on ech fleisch; and youre sones and youre douytris schulen prophesie, and youre yonge men schulen se visiouns, and youre eldris schulen dreme sweuenes.
2:18And on my seruauntis and myn handmaidens in tho daies Y schal schede out of my spirit, and thei schulen prophecie.
2:19And Y schal yyue grete wondris in heuene aboue, and signes in erthe bynethe, blood, and fier, and heete of smoke.
2:20The sunne schal be turned in to derknessis, and the moone in to blood, bifor that the greet and the opyn dai of the Lord come.
2:21And it schal be, ech man which euere schal clepe to help the name of the Lord, schal be saaf.
2:22Ye men of Israel, here ye these wordis. Jhesu of Nazareth, a man preued of God bifor you bi vertues, and wondris, and tokenes, which God dide bi hym in the myddil of you,
2:23as ye witen, ye turmentiden, and killiden hym bi the hoondis of wyckid men, bi counseil determyned and bitakun bi the forknouwyng of God.
2:24Whom God reiside, whanne sorewis of helle weren vnboundun, bi that that it was impossible that he were holdun of it.
2:25For Dauid seith of hym, Y saiy afer the Lord bifore me euermore, for he is on my riythalf, that Y be not mouyd.
2:26For this thing myn herte ioiede, and my tunge made ful out ioye, and more ouere my fleisch schal reste in hope.
2:27For thou schalt not leeue my soule in helle, nethir thou schalt yiue thin hooli to se corrupcioun.
2:28Thou hast maad knowun to me the weies of lijf, thou schalt fille me in myrthe with thi face.
2:29Britheren, be it leueful boldli to seie to you of the patriark Dauid, for he is deed and biried, and his sepulcre is among vs in to this dai.
2:30Therfore whanne he was a prophete, and wiste, that with a greet ooth God hadde sworn to hym, that of the fruyt of his leende schulde oon sitte on his seete,
2:31he seynge afer spak of the resurreccioun of Crist, for nether he was left in helle, nether his fleisch saiy corrupcioun.
2:32God reiside this Jhesu, to whom we alle ben witnessis.
2:33Therfor he was enhaunsid bi the riythoond of God, and thorouy the biheest of the Hooli Goost that he took of the fadir, he schedde out this spirit, that ye seen and heren.
2:34For Dauid stiede not in to heuene; but he seith, The Lord seide to my Lord,
2:35Sitte thou on my riyt half, til Y putte thin enemyes a stool of thi feet.
2:36Therfor moost certeynli wite al the hous of Israel, that God made hym bothe Lord and Crist, this Jhesu, whom ye crucefieden.
2:37Whanne thei herden these thingis, thei weren compunct in herte; and thei seiden to Petre and othere apostlis, Britheren, what schulen we do?
2:38And Petre seide to hem, Do ye penaunce, and eche of you be baptisid in the name of Jhesu Crist, in to remissioun of youre synnes; and ye schulen take the yifte of the Hooli Goost.
2:39For the biheest is to you, and to youre sones, and to alle that ben fer, which euer oure Lord God hath clepid.
2:40Also with othere wordis ful many he witnesside to hem, and monestide hem, and seide, Be ye sauyd fro this schrewid generacioun.

2:42and weren lastynge stabli in the teching of the apostlis, and in comynyng of the breking of breed, in preieris.
2:43And drede was maad to ech man. And many wondris and signes weren don bi the apostlis in Jerusalem, and greet drede was in alle.
2:44And alle that bileueden weren togidre, and hadden alle thingis comyn.
2:45Thei selden possessiouns and catel, and departiden tho thingis to alle men, as it was nede to ech.
2:46And ech dai thei dwelliden stabli with o wille in the temple, and braken breed aboute housis, and token mete with ful out ioye and symplenesse of herte,
2:47and herieden togidere God, and hadden grace to al the folk. And the Lord encreside hem that weren maad saaf, ech dai in to the same thing.

2:1And whan the Whit sondaye was fulfylled, they were all with one acorde together in one place.
2:2And sodenly there came a sounde from heauen, as it had bene the comynge of a mightie wynde, and it fylled the whole house where they sat.
2:3And there appeared vnto them clouen tunges, like as they had bene of fyre. And he sat vpon ech one of them,
2:4and they were all fylled with the holy goost. And they beganne to preach with other tunges, euen as the sprete gaue them vtteraunce.
2:5There were dwellinge at Ierusalem Iewes, men that feared God, out of euery nacion that is vnder heauen.
2:6Now whan this voyce came to passe, the multitude came together, and were astonyed: For euery one herde, that they spake with his awne tunge.
2:7They wondred all and marueyled, and sayde amonge them selues: Beholde, are not all these which speake, of Galile?
2:8How heare we the euery one his awne tunge, wherin we were borne?
2:9Parthians and Medes, and Elamites, and we that dwell in Mesopotamia, and in Iewry and Capadocia, Pontus, and Asia,
2:10Phrigia and Pamphilia, Egipte, and in the partes of Lybia by Cyren, and straungers of Rome, Iewes and Proselytes,
2:11Cretes and Arabians: we heare them speake with oure awne tunges the greate workes of God.
2:12They were all amased, and wondred, and sayde one to another: What wil this be?
2:13But other mocked them, and sayde: They are full of swete wyne.
2:14Then stode Peter vp with the eleuen, and lift vp his voyce, and sayde vnto them: Ye men of Iewry, and all ye that dwell at Ierusale, be this knowne vnto you, and let my wordes entre in at youre eares.
2:15For these are not dronken, as ye suppose, for it is yet but the thirde houre of ye daye:
2:16but this is it, that was spoke before by the prophet Ioel:
2:17And it shal come to passe in the last dayes, sayeth God, I will poure out of my sprete vpon all flesh, and youre sonnes and youre doughters shal prophecye, and youre yonge men shal se visions and youre olde men shall dreame dreames,

2:19And I wil shewe wonders in heauen aboue, and tokens on the earth beneth, bloude and fyre, and the vapoure of smoke.
2:20The Sonne shalbe turned in to darknesse, and the Moone in to bloude, before that greate and notable daye of the LORDE come.
2:21And it shall come to passe, Who so euer shal call vpo the name of the LORDE, shalbe saued.
2:22Ye men of Israel, heare these wordes: Iesus of Nazareth, ye man approued of God amonge you with miracles, and wonders and tokens, which God dyd by him in the myddes amonge you, as ye yor selues knowe also,
2:23him (after that he was delyuered by the determinate councell and foreknowlege of God) haue ye taken by the handes of vnrighteous personnes, and crucifyed him, & slayne him,

2:25For Dauid speaketh of him: Afore honde haue I set the LORDE allwayes before me, for he is on my right hode, that I shulde not be moued.
2:26Therfore dyd my hert reioyse, and my tunge was glad: For my flesh also shal rest in hope.
2:27For thou shalt not leaue my soule in hell, nether shalt thou suffer yi Holy to se corrupcion.
2:28Thou hast shewed me the wayes of life, thou shalt make me full of ioye with thy countenaunce.
2:29Ye men and brethren, let me frely speake vnto you of the Patryarke Dauid: For he is deed and buried, and his sepulcre is with vs vnto this daye.
2:30Wherfore now seinge yt he was a prophet, and knewe that God had promised him with an ooth, that the frute of his loynes shulde syt on his seate,
2:31he sawe it before, and spake of the resurreccion of Christ: for his soule was not left in hell, nether hath his flesh sene corrupcion.

2:33Seynge now that he by the right hande of God is exalted, and hath receaued of ye father ye promyse of the holy goost, he hath shed forth this, that ye se and heare.

2:36So therfore let all the house of Israel knowe for a suertye, yt God hath made this same Iesus (whom ye haue crucified) LORDE and Christ.
2:37Whan they herde this, their hert pricked them, and they sayde vnto Peter and to the other Apostles: Ye men and brethre, What shal we do?
2:38Peter sayde onto them: Amede youre selues, and let euery one of you be baptysed in the name of Iesus Christ, for the remyssion of synnes, and ye shal receaue the gifte of the holy goost.
2:39For this promyse was made vnto you and youre children, and to all that are farre of, who so euer the LORDE oure God shal call.
2:40And wt many other wordes bare he witnesse, and exorted them, and sayde: Saue youre selues from this vntowarde generacion.
2:41They that gladly receaued his preachinge, were baptysed, & the same daye there were added vnto them aboute thre thousande soules.
2:42They contynued in the Apostles doctryne, and in the felashippe, and in breakynge of bred, and in prayer.
2:43And feare came vpo euery soule, and many wonders and tokens were done by ye Apostles.
2:44But all they that beleued, were together, and had all thinges commen.
2:45They solde their goodes and possessions, and parted them out amonge all, acordinge as euery ma had nede.
2:46And they contynued daylie with one acorde in the teple, and brake bred in euery house: they toke their meate with ioye & synglenesse of hert,
