| 4:1 | And as they are speaking unto the people, there came to them the priests, and the magistrate of the temple, and the Sadducees -- |
| 4:2 | being grieved because of their teaching the people, and preaching in Jesus the rising again out of the dead -- |
| 4:3 | and they laid hands upon them, and did put them in custody unto the morrow, for it was evening already; |
| 4:4 | and many of those hearing the word did believe, and the number of the men became, as it were, five thousand. |
| 4:5 | And it came to pass upon the morrow, there were gathered together of them the rulers, and elders, and scribes, to Jerusalem, |
| 4:6 | and Annas the chief priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the chief priest, |
| 4:7 | and having set them in the midst, they were inquiring, `In what power, or in what name did ye do this?' |
| 4:8 | Then Peter, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them: `Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, |
| 4:9 | if we to-day are examined concerning the good deed to the ailing man, by whom he hath been saved, |
| 4:10 | be it known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye did crucify, whom God did raise out of the dead, in him hath this one stood by before you whole. |
| 4:11 | `This is the stone that was set at nought by you -- the builders, that became head of a corner; |
| 4:12 | and there is not salvation in any other, for there is no other name under the heaven that hath been given among men, in which it behoveth us to be saved.' |
| 4:13 | And beholding the openness of Peter and John, and having perceived that they are men unlettered and plebeian, they were wondering -- they were taking knowledge also of them that with Jesus they had been -- |
| 4:14 | and seeing the man standing with them who hath been healed, they had nothing to say against `it', |
| 4:15 | and having commanded them to go away out of the sanhedrim, they took counsel with one another, |
| 4:16 | saying, `What shall we do to these men? because that, indeed, a notable sign hath been done through them, to all those dwelling in Jerusalem `is' manifest, and we are not able to deny `it'; |
| 4:17 | but that it may spread no further toward the people, let us strictly threaten them no more to speak in this name to any man.' |
| 4:18 | And having called them, they charged them not to speak at all, nor to teach, in the name of Jesus, |
| 4:19 | and Peter and John answering unto them said, `Whether it is righteous before God to hearken to you rather than to God, judge ye; |
| 4:20 | for we cannot but speak what we did see and hear.' |
| 4:21 | And they having further threatened `them', let them go, finding nothing how they may punish them, because of the people, because all were glorifying God for that which hath been done, |
| 4:22 | for above forty years of age was the man upon whom had been done this sign of the healing. |
| 4:23 | And being let go, they went unto their own friends, and declared whatever the chief priests and the elders said unto them, |
| 4:24 | and they having heard, with one accord did lift up the voice unto God, and said, `Lord, thou `art' God, who didst make the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all that `are' in them, |
| 4:25 | who, through the mouth of David thy servant, did say, Why did nations rage, and peoples meditate vain things? |
| 4:26 | the kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ; |
| 4:27 | for gathered together of a truth against Thy holy child Jesus, whom Thou didst anoint, were both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with nations and peoples of Israel, |
| 4:28 | to do whatever Thy hand and Thy counsel did determine before to come to pass. |
| 4:29 | `And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings, and grant to Thy servants with all freedom to speak Thy word, |
| 4:30 | in the stretching forth of Thy hand, for healing, and signs, and wonders, to come to pass through the name of Thy holy child Jesus.' |
| 4:31 | And they having prayed, the place was shaken in which they were gathered together, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and were speaking the word of God with freedom, |
| 4:32 | and of the multitude of those who did believe the heart and the soul was one, and not one was saying that anything of the things he had was his own, but all things were to them in common. |
| 4:33 | And with great power were the apostles giving the testimony to the rising again of the Lord Jesus, great grace also was on them all, |
| 4:34 | for there was not any one among them who did lack, for as many as were possessors of fields, or houses, selling `them', were bringing the prices of the thing sold, |
| 4:35 | and were laying them at the feet of the apostles, and distribution was being made to each according as any one had need. |
| 4:36 | And Joses, who was surnamed by the apostles Barnabas -- which is, having been interpreted, Son of Comfort -- a Levite, of Cyprus by birth, |
| 4:37 | a field being his, having sold `it', brought the money and laid `it' at the feet of the apostles. |
| 4:1 | As they spake vnto the people the prestes and the rular of the teple and the Saduces came vpon them |
| 4:2 | takynge it grevously that they taught ye pople and preached in Iesus the resurreccion fro deeth. |
| 4:3 | And they layde hondes on them and put them in holde vntill the nexte daye: for it was now even tyde. |
| 4:4 | How be it many of them which hearde the wordes beleved and the noumbre of the men was aboute fyve thousande. |
| 4:5 | And it chaunsed on the morowe that their rulars and elders and Scribes |
| 4:6 | as Annas the chefe Prest and Cayphas and Iohn and Alexander and as many as were of ye kynred of the hye prestes gadered to geder at Ierusalem |
| 4:7 | and set the other before them and axed: by what power or what name have ye done this syrs? |
| 4:8 | Then Peter full of ye holy goost sayd vnto them: ye rulars of the people and elders of Israel |
| 4:9 | yf we this daye are examined of the good dede done to the sycke man by what meanes he is made whoale: |
| 4:10 | be yt knowen vnto you all and to the people of Israel that in the name of Iesus Christ of Nazareth whom ye crucified and whom God raysed agayne from deeth: even by him doth this man stonde here present before you whoale. |
| 4:11 | This is ye stone cast a syde of you bylders which is set in the chefe place of the corner. |
| 4:12 | Nether is ther salvacio in eny other. Nor yet also is ther eny other name geven to men wherin we must be saved. |
| 4:13 | When they sawe the boldnes of Peter and Iohn and vnderstode that they were vnlerned men and laye people they marveyled and they knew them that they were with Iesu: |
| 4:14 | and beholdinge also the ma which was healed stondinge with the they coulde not saye agaynst it. |
| 4:15 | But they comaunded them to go a syde out of the counsell and counceled amoge them selves |
| 4:16 | sayinge: what shall we do to these men? For a manifest signe is done by the and is openly knowen to all them that dwell in Ierusalem and we canot denye it. |
| 4:17 | But that it be noysed no farther amoge the people let us threaten and charge them that they speake hence forth to no man in this name. |
| 4:18 | And they called them and comaunded them that in no wyse they shuld speake or teache in the name of Iesu. |
| 4:19 | But Peter and Iohn answered vnto them and sayde: whether it be right in the syght of God to obeye you moare then God iudge ye. |
| 4:20 | For we canot but speake that which we have sene and hearde. |
| 4:21 | So threatened they them and let them goo and founde no thinge how to punysshe them because of the people. For all me lauded God for the myracle which was done: |
| 4:22 | for the man was above fourty yeare olde on whom this myracle of healinge was shewed. |
| 4:23 | Assone as they were let goo they came to their felowes and shewed all that the hye prestes and elders had sayde to them. |
| 4:24 | And when they hearde that they lyfte vp their voyces to God with one accorde and sayde: Lorde thou arte God which hast made heaven and erth the see and all that in them is |
| 4:25 | which by the mouth of thy servaunt David hast sayd: Why dyd the hethen rage and the people immagen vayne thinges. |
| 4:26 | The kynges of the erth stode vp and the rulars came to gedder agaynst the Lorde and agaynst his Christ. |
| 4:27 | For of a trueth agaynst thy holy chylde Iesus whom thou hast annoynted bothe Herode and also Poncius Pylate with the Gentils and the people of Israel gaddered them selves to gedder |
| 4:28 | for to do whatsoever thy honde and thy counsell determined before to be done. |
| 4:29 | And now Lorde beholde their threatenynges and graunte vnto thy servauntes with all confidence to speake thy worde. |
| 4:30 | So that thou stretche forth thy honde that healynge and signes and wonders be done by the name of thy holy chylde Iesus. |
| 4:31 | And assone as they had prayed the place moved wheare they were assembled to gedder and they were all filled with the holy goost and they spake the worde of God boldely. |
| 4:32 | And the multitude of them that beleved were of one hert and of one soule. Also none of them sayde that eny of the thinges which he possessed was his awne: but had all thinges commen. |
| 4:33 | And with greate power gave the Apostles witnes of the resurreccion of the Lorde Iesu. And greate grace was with them all. |
| 4:34 | Nether was ther eny amonge them that lacked. For as many as were possessers of londes or housses solde them and brought the pryce of the thinges that were solde |
| 4:35 | and layed yt doune at the Apostles fete. And distribucion was made vnto every man accordinge as he had nede. |
| 4:36 | And Ioses which was also called of the Apostles Barnabas (that is to saye the sonne of consolacion) beynge a Levite and of the countre of Cipers |
| 4:37 | had londe and solde it. and layde the pryce doune at the Apostles fete. |
| 4:1 | But as they spake to ye people, there came vnto the the prestes and the rulers of the teple, and the Saduces, |
| 4:2 | who it greued yt they taught the people, & preached in Iesu ye resurreccion fro the deed |
| 4:3 | and they layed handes vpon them, and put the in holde tyll the morow: for it was now euentyde. |
| 4:4 | Howbeit many of the which herde the worde, beleued, and the nombre of ye men was aboute fyue thousande. |
| 4:5 | And it chaunced on ye morow, that their rulers and Elders and scrybes |
| 4:6 | (as Annas ye hye prest and Caiphas, and Ihon & Alexander, and as many as were of the hye prestes kynred) gathered them selues together at Ierusalem, |
| 4:7 | and set them before them, and axed them: By what auctorite, Or in what name haue ye done this? |
| 4:8 | Peter full of the holy goost, sayde vnto them: Ye rulers of the people, and ye Elders of Israel, |
| 4:9 | Yf we this daye be examyned concernynge this good dede vpon the sicke ma, by what meanes he is made whole, |
| 4:10 | be it knowne then vnto you and to all the people of Israel, that in ye name of Iesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, who God hath raysed vp from the deed, stodeth this man here before you whole. |
| 4:11 | This is the stone refused of you buylders, which is become the heade corner stone, |
| 4:12 | nether is there saluacion in eny other: Ner yet also is there geue vnto me eny other name, wherin we must be saued. |
| 4:13 | They sawe the boldnesse of Peter & Ihon and marueyled, for they were sure yt they were vnlerned men and laye people. And they knewe the also, that they were wt Iesu. |
| 4:14 | As for the man yt was made whole, they sawe hi stodinge by the, & coulde not saye agaynst it. |
| 4:15 | Then comaunded they the to stode asyde out of ye councell, & comened amoge the selues, |
| 4:16 | & saide: What shal we do to these me? for a manyfest token is done by them, and is openly knowne vnto the that dwell at Ierusalem, and we can not denye it. |
| 4:17 | But that it breake out no farther amoge the people, let vs threate them earnestly, that hence forth they speake of this name vnto noman. |
| 4:18 | And they called them, and comaunded the, that in eny wyse they shulde not speake ner teache in the name of Iesu. |
| 4:19 | But Peter & Ihon answered, and sayde vnto the: Iudge ye youre selues, whether it be right before God, that we shulde be more obedient vnto you, then vnto God. |
| 4:20 | We can not chose, but speake that we haue sene & herde. |
| 4:21 | But they threatened them, and let them go, and founde nothinge how to punyshe them because of ye people: for they all praysed God because of that, which was done. |
| 4:22 | For the man, vpon whom this token of health was done, was aboue fourtye yeare olde. |
| 4:23 | And whan they were let go, they came to their folowes, and tolde them what ye hye prestes and Elders sayde vnto them. |
| 4:24 | Wha they herde that, they lifte vp their voyce wt one acorde vnto God, and sayde: LORDE, thou that art the God which made heauen and earth, and the see, and all that therin is thou |
| 4:25 | that by the mouth of Dauid thy seruaut hast sayde: Why do the Heythe rage? and ye people ymagin vayne thinges? |
| 4:26 | The kynges of the earth stonde vp, and the prynces haue gathered them selues together agaynst ye LORDE, and agaynst his. Christ. |
| 4:27 | Of a trueth agaynst thy holy childe Iesus, whom thou hast anoynted, both Herode & Pontius Pilate with the Heythen and people of Israel, haue gathered the selues together, |
| 4:28 | to do what soeuer thy hande and thy councell determyned before to be done. |
| 4:29 | And now LORDE, beholde their threatenynges, and graunte vnto thy seruauntes with all stedfast boldnesse to speake thy worde: |
| 4:30 | and stretch out thine hande, that healinge and tokes and wonders maye be done by the name of thy holy childe Iesus. |
| 4:31 | And wha they had prayed, the place moued where they were gathered together, & they were all fylled with ye holy goost, & spake the worde of God boldly. |
| 4:32 | The multitude of them that beleued, were of one hert and of one soule. Also none of them sayde of his goodes, that they were his awne, but had all thinges comen. |
| 4:33 | And with greate power gaue the Apostles witnesse of the resurreccion of the LORDE Iesu, and greate grace was with them all. |
| 4:34 | Nether was there eny amonge them that lacked. For as many as were possessers of londes or houses, solde the and brought ye money of the goodes that were solde, |
| 4:35 | and layed it at the Apostles fete. And distribucion was made vnto euery ma, acordinge as he had nede. |
| 4:36 | Ioses which was also called of ye Apostles, Barnabas (that is to saye, the sonne of consolacion) a Leuite, of the countre of Cypers, |
| 4:37 | had londe, and solde it, & brought the money, and layed it at the Apostles fete. |
