Acts - Chapter: 8

>
8:1And Saul was consenting vnto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the Church which was at Hierusalem, and they were all scattered abroad through out the regions of Iudea, and Samaria, except the Apostles.
8:2And deuout men carried Steuen to his buriall, and made great lamentation ouer him.
8:3As for Saul, he made hauocke of the Church, entring into euery house, and hailing men and women, committed them to prison.
8:4Therefore they that were scattered abroad, went euery where preaching the word.
8:5Then Philip went downe to the citie of Samaria, and preached Christ vnto them.
8:6And the people with one accord gaue heed vnto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
8:7For vncleane spirits, crying with lowd voyce, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.
8:8And there was great ioy in that citie.
8:9But there was a certaine man called Simon, which before time in the same citie vsed sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giuing out that himselfe was some great one.
8:10To whom they all gaue heed from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.
8:11And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.
8:12But when they beleeued Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdome of God, and the Name of Iesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
8:13Then Simon himselfe beleeued also: and when hee was baptized, hee continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signes which were done.
8:14Now when the Apostles which were at Hierusalem, heard that Samaria had receiued the word of God, they sent vnto them Peter and Iohn.
8:15Who when they were come downe, praied for them that they might receiue the holy Ghost.
8:16(For as yet hee was fallen vpon none of them: onely they were baptized in the Name of the Lord Iesus.)
8:17Then layde they their hands on them, and they receiued the holy Ghost.
8:18And when Simon saw that through laying on of the Apostles hands, the holy Ghost was giuen, hee offered them money,
8:19Saying, Giue me also this power, that on whomsoeuer I lay handes, hee may receiue the holy Ghost.
8:20But Peter said vnto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
8:21Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter, for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
8:22Repent therefore of this thy wickednesse, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiuen thee.
8:23For I perceiue that thou art in the gall of bitternesse, and in the bond of iniquitie.
8:24Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for mee, that none of these things which ye haue spoken, come vpon me.
8:25And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Hierusalem, and preached the Gospel in many villages of the Samaritanes.
8:26And the Angel of the Lord spake vnto Philip, saying, Arise, and goe toward the South, vnto the way that goeth downe from Hierusalem vnto Gaza, which is desert.
8:27And hee arose, and went: and behold, a man of Ethiopia, an Eunuch of great authority vnder Candace queene of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Hierusalem for to worship,
8:28Was returning, and sitting in his charet, read Esaias the Prophet.
8:29Then the Spirit saide vnto Philip, Goe neere, and ioyne thy selfe to this charet.
8:30And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him reade the Prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
8:31And hee said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip, that hee would come vp, and sit with him.
8:32The place of the Scripture, which hee read, was this, Hee was led as a sheepe to the slaughter, & like a Lambe dumbe before the shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
8:33In his humiliation, his Iudgement was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? For his life is taken from the earth.
8:34And the Eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the Prophet this? of himselfe, or of some other man?
8:35Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same Scripture, and preached vnto him Iesus.
8:36And as they went on their way, they came vnto a certaine water: and the Eunuch said, See, here is water, what doeth hinder me to be baptized?
8:37And Philip said, If thou beleeuest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered, and said, I beleeue that Iesus Christ is the Sonne of God.
8:38And he commanded the charet to stand still: and they went downe both into the water, both Philip, and the Eunuch, and he baptized him.
8:39And when they were come vp out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the Eunuch saw him no more: and hee went on his way reioycing.
8:40But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing thorow he preached in all the cities, till he came to Cesarea.

8:1Saul had pleasure in his death. At ye same tyme there was a greate persecucion ouer the congregacion at Ierusale. And they were all scatered abrode in the regions of Iewrye & Samaria, excepte the Apostles.
8:2As for Steuen, men yt feared God dressed him, and made greate lamentacion ouer him.
8:3But Saul made hauocke of the congregacion, entred in to euery house, and drue out men & wemen, & delyuered the to preson.
8:4They now yt were scatered abrode wete aboute & preached the worde.
8:5The came Philippe in to a cite of Samaria, and preached Christ vnto them.
8:6And the people gaue hede with one acorde vnto ye thinges that Philip spake, hearinge him, and seynge the tokes that he dyd.
8:7For the vncleane spretes cryed loude, and departed out of many yt were possessed. And many that were sicke of the palsie and lame, were healed.
8:8And there was greate ioye in the same cite.
8:9But afore there was in ye same cite a certayne ma, called Simon, which vsed witche craft, and bewitched ye people of Samaria, sayenge, that he was a man which coulde do greate thinges.
8:10And they all regarded him from the leest vnto ye greatest, & sayde: This is the power of God which is greate.
8:11But they regarded him, because that of longe tyme he had bewitched them with his sorcery.
8:12Howbeit whan they beleued Philips preachinge of ye kyngdome of God, and of the name of Iesu Christ, they were baptysed both me & weme.
8:13Then Symon himself beleued also, and was baptysed, and cleued vnto Philippe. And wha he sawe the dedes and tokens that were done, he wondred.
8:14Whan the Apostles which were at Ierusalem, herde, that Samaria had receaued ye worde of God, they sent vnto the Peter and Ihon.
8:15Which, wha they were come, prayed for the, yt they might receaue the holy goost.
8:16For as yet he was come vpon none of them but they were baptysed onely in the name of Christ Iesu.
8:17Then layed they their hades on them, and they receaued the holy goost.
8:18But whan Simon sawe, that by the layenge on of the Apostles hades ye holy goost was geuen, he offred the money,
8:19and sayde: Geue me also this power, that, on whomsoeuer I put the hodes, he maye receaue the holy goost.
8:20Howbeit Peter sayde vnto him: Perishe thou with thy money, because thou thinkest that ye gifte of God maye be optayned with money.
8:21Thou shalt haue nether parte ner felashipe in this worde, for yi hert is not righte before God.
8:22Repente therfore of this yi wickednesse, and praye vnto God, yf happly the thought of thy hert maye be forgeue ye.
8:23For I se, yt thou art full of bytter gall, and wrapped in wt vnrighteousnesse.
8:24Then answered Simon, & sayde: Praye ye vnto the LORDE for me, yt none of these thinges wherof ye haue spoken, come vpon me.
8:25And they, wha they had testified and spoke the worde of the LORDE, turned agayne to Ierusalem, and preached the Gospell in many townes of the Samaritanes.
8:26But the angell of the LORDE spake vnto Philippe, and sayde: Aryse, & go towarde the South, vnto the waye that goeth downe from Ierusalem vnto Gaza, which is deserte.
8:27And he rose, and wente on. And beholde, a ma of the Morians lode (a chamberlayne and of auctorite with Candace ye quene of the londe of the Morians) which had the rule of all hir treasuries, ye same came to Ierusale to worshipe.
8:28And returned home agayne, and satt vpon his charet, and red the prophet Esay.
8:29The sprete sayde vnto Philippe: Go neare, and ioyne thy selfe to yonder charet.
8:30The ranne Philippe vnto him, and herde him rede the prophet Esay, and sayde: Vnderstodest thou what thou readest?
8:31He sayde: How can I, excepte some ma enfourme me?And he desyred Philippe, that he wolde come vp, and syt with him.
8:32The tenoure of the scripture which he red, was this: He was led as a shepe to be slayne, and as a lambe voycelesse before his sherer, so opened he not his mouth.
8:33In his humblenesse is his iudgment exalted. Who shal declare his generacion? for his life is taken awaye from the earth.
8:34Then answered the chamberlayne vnto Philippe, and sayde: I praye the, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himselfe, or of some other man?
8:35Philippe opened his mouth, and beganne at this scripture, and preached him the Gospell of Iesus.
8:36And as they wete on their waye, they came to a water. And the chamberlayne sayde: Beholde, here is water, what hyndereth me to be baptysed?
8:37Philippe sayde: Yf thou beleue from thy whole herte, thou mayest. He answered, and sayde: I beleue, that Iesus Christ is the sonne of God.
8:38And he commaunded to holde styll the charet, and they wente downe in to the water, both Philippe and the chamberlayne. And he baptysed him.
8:39But whan they were come vp out of the water, the sprete of the LORDE toke Philippe awaye. And the Chamberlayne sawe him nomore. But he wente on his waye reioysinge.
8:40As for Philippe, he was founde at Assdod, and walked aboute, and preached the Gospell vnto all the cities, tyll he came to Cesarea.

8:1But Saul was consentynge to his deth. And greet persecucioun was maad that dai in the chirche, that was in Jerusalem. And alle men weren scatered bi the cuntrees of Judee and Samarie, outakun the apostlis.
8:2But good men birieden Steuene, and maden greet mornyng on hym.
8:3But Saul greetli distruyede the chirche, and entryde bi housis, and drowe men and wymmen, and bitook hem in to prisoun.
8:4And thei that weren scaterid, passiden forth, prechynge the word of God.
8:5And Filip cam doun in to a citee of Samarie, and prechide to hem Crist.
8:6And the puple yaf tent to thes thingis that weren seid of Filip, with o wille herynge and seynge the signes that he dide.
8:7For manye of hem that hadden vnclene spirits, crieden with a greet vois, and wenten out.
8:8And manye sijk in the palsi, and crokid, weren heelid.
8:9Therfor greet ioye was maad in that citee. But there was a man in that citee, whos name was Symount, a witche, that hadde disseyued the folc of Samarie, seiynge, that him silf was sum greet man.
8:10Whom alle herkeneden, fro the leest to the moost, and seiden, This is the vertu of God, which is clepid greet.
8:11And thei leueden hym, for long tyme he hadde maddid hem with his witche craftis.
8:12But whanne thei hadden bileued to Filip, `that prechide of the kingdom of God, men and wymmen weren baptisid in the name of Jhesu Crist.
8:13And thanne also Symount him silf bileued; and whanne he was baptisid, he drouy to Filip; and he sai also that signes and grete vertues weren don, he was astonyed, and wondride.
8:14But whanne the apostlis that weren at Jerusalem, hadden herd that Samarie hadde resseyued the word of God, thei senten to hem Petre and Joon.
8:15And whanne thei camen, thei preieden for hem, that thei schulden resseyue the Hooli Goost;
8:16for he cam not yit in to ony of hem, but thei weren baptisid oonli in the name of the Lord Jhesu.
8:17Thanne thei leiden hoondis on hem, and thei resseyueden the Hooli Goost.
8:18And whanne Symount hadde seyn, that the Hooly Goost was youun bi leiyng on of the hoondis of the apostlis, and he proferide to hem money, and seide,
8:19Yyue ye also to me this power, that whom euere Y schal leye on myn hoondis, that he resseyue the Hooli Goost.
8:20But Petir seide to hym, Thi money be with thee into perdicioun, for thou gessidist the yifte of God schulde be had for monei.
8:21Ther is no part, ne sort to thee, in this word, for thin herte is not riytful bifor God.
8:22Therfor do thou penaunce for this wickidnesse of thee, and preie God, if perauenture this thouyt of thin herte be foryouun to thee.
8:23For Y se that thou art in the gall of bitternesse and in the boond of wickidnesse.
8:24And Symount answeride, and seide, Preie ye for me to the Lord, that no thing of these thingis that ye han seid, com on me.
8:25And thei witnessiden, and spaken the word of the Lord, and yeden ayen to Jerusalem, and prechiden to many cuntrees of Samaritans.
8:26And an aungel of the Lord spak to Filip, and seide, Ryse thou, and go ayens the south, to the weie that goith doun fro Jerusalem in to Gasa; this is desert.
8:27And he roos, and wente forth. And lo! a man of Ethiopie, a myyti man seruaunt, a yelding of Candace, the queen of Ethiopiens, which was on alle her richessis, cam to worschipe in Jerusalem.
8:28And he turnede ayen, sittinge on his chare, and redinge Isaie, the profete.
8:29And the spirit seide to Filip, Neiye thou, and ioyne thee to this chare.
8:30And Filip `ran to, and herde hym redynge Ysaie, the prophete. And he seide, Gessist thou, whether thou vndirstondist, what thingis thou redist?
8:31And he seide, How may Y, if no man schewe to me? And he preiede Filip, that he schulde come vp, and sitte with hym.
8:32And the place of the scripture that he redde, was this, As a scheep he was led to sleyng, and as a lomb bifor a man that scherith him is doumb with out vois, so he openyde not his mouth.
8:33In mekenesse his dom was takun vp; who schal telle out the generacioun of hym? For his lijf schal be takun awei fro the erthe.
8:34And the gelding answeride to Filip, and seide, Y biseche thee, of `what profete seith he this thing? of him silf, ethir of ony othere?
8:35And Filip openyde his mouth, and bigan at this scripture, and prechide to him Jhesu.
8:36And the while thei wenten bi the weie, thei camen to a water. And the gelding seide, Lo! watir; who forbedith me to be baptisid?
8:37And Filip seide, If thou bileuest of al the herte, it is leueful. And he answeride, and seide, Y bileue that Jhesu Crist is the sone of God.
8:38And he comaundide the chare to stonde stille. And thei wenten doun bothe into the watir, Filip and the gelding, and Filip baptiside hym.
8:39And whanne thei weren come vp of the watir, the spirit of the Lord rauyschide Filip, and the gelding say hym no more.
8:40And Filip was foundun in Azotus; and he passide forth, and prechide to alle citees, til he cam to Cesarie.
