| 12:1 | And in the same tyme Eroude the king sente power, to turmente sum men of the chirche. |
| 12:2 | And he slowe bi swerd James, the brothir of Joon. |
| 12:3 | And he siy that it pleside to Jewis, and keste to take also Petre; and the daies of therf looues weren. |
| 12:4 | And whanne he hadde cauyte Petre, he sente hym in to prisoun; and bitook to foure quaternyouns of knyytis, to kepe hym, and wolde aftir pask bringe hym forth to the puple. |
| 12:5 | And Petre was kept in prisoun; but preier was maad of the chirche with out ceessing to God for hym. |
| 12:6 | But whanne Eroude schulde bringe hym forth, in that nyyt Petre was slepinge bitwixe twei knyytis, and was boundun with twei cheynes; and the keperis bifor the dore kepten the prisoun. |
| 12:7 | And lo! an aungel of the Lord stoode nyy, and liyt schoon in the prisoun hous. And whanne he hadde smyte the side of Petre, he reiside hym, and seide, Rise thou swiftli. And anoon the cheynes felden doun fro hise hoondis. |
| 12:8 | And the aungel seide to hym, Girde thee, and do on thin hoosis. And he dide so. And he seide to hym, Do aboute thee thi clothis, and sue me. |
| 12:9 | And he yede out, and suede hym; and he wiste not that it was soth, that was don bi the aungel; for he gesside hym silf to haue sey a visioun. |
| 12:10 | And thei passiden the first and the secounde warde, and camen to the iren yate that ledith to the citee, which anoon was opened to hem. And thei yeden out, and camen in to o street, and anoon the aungel passide awei fro hym. |
| 12:11 | And Petre turnede ayen to hym silf, and seide, Now Y woot verili, that the Lord sente his aungel, `and delyueride me fro the hoond of Eroude, and fro al the abiding of the puple of Jewis. |
| 12:12 | And he bihelde, and cam to the hous of Marie, modir of Joon, that is named Marcus, where many weren gaderid togidre, and preiynge. |
| 12:13 | And whanne he knockid at the dore of the yate, a damysel, Rode bi name, cam forth to se. |
| 12:14 | And whanne sche knewe the vois of Petre, for ioye sche openyde not the yate, but ran in, and telde, that Petre stood at the yate. |
| 12:15 | And thei seiden `to hir, Thou maddist. But sche affermyde, that it was so. And thei seiden, It is his aungel. |
| 12:16 | But Petre abood stille, and knockide. And whanne thei hadden opened the dore, thei sayen hym, and wondriden. |
| 12:17 | And he bekenyde to hem with his hoond to be stille, and telde hou the Lord hadde led hym out of the prisoun. And he seide, Telle ye to James and to the britheren these thingis. And he yede out, and wente in to an othere place. |
| 12:18 | And whanne the dai was come, ther was not lytil troubling among the knyytis, what was don of Petre. |
| 12:19 | And whanne Eroude hadde souyt hym, and foonde not, aftir that he hadde made enqueryng of the keperis, he comaundide hem to be brouyt to hym. And he cam doun fro Judee in to Cesarie, and dwellide there. |
| 12:20 | And he was wroth to men of Tyre and of Sidon. And thei of oon acord camen to hym, whanne thei hadden counseilid with Bastus, that was the kingis chaumbirleyn, thei axiden pees, for as myche that her cuntrees weren vitailid of hym. |
| 12:21 | And in a dai that was ordeyned, Eroude was clothid with kyngis clothing, and sat for domesman, and spak to hem. |
| 12:22 | And the puple criede, The voicis of God, and not of man. |
| 12:23 | And anoon an aungel of the Lord smoot hym, for he hadde not youun onour to God; and he was wastid of wormes, and diede. |
| 12:24 | And the word of the Lord waxide, and was multiplied. |
| 12:25 | And Barnabas and Saul turneden ayen fro Jerusalem, whanne the mynystrie was fillid, and token Joon, that was named Marcus. |
| 12:1 | In that tyme Herode the kynge stretched forthe his handes to vexe certayne of the congregacion. |
| 12:2 | And he kylled Iames the brother of Iohn with the swerde: |
| 12:3 | and because he sawe that it pleased ye Iewes he proceded forther and toke Peter also. Then were the dayes of swete breed. |
| 12:4 | And when he had caught him he put him in preson and delyvered him to .iiii. quaternios of soudiers to be kepte entendynge after ester to brynge him forth to the people. |
| 12:5 | Then was Peter kepte in preson. But prayer was made with out ceasynge of the congregacion vnto God for him. |
| 12:6 | And when Herode wolde have brought him oute vnto the people the same nyght slepte Peter bitwene two soudiers bounde with two chaynes and the kepers before the dore kepte the preson. |
| 12:7 | And beholde the angell of ye Lorde was there present and a lyght shyned in the lodge. And smote Peter on the syde and steryd him vp sayinge: aryse vp quyckly. And his cheynes fell of fro his hondes. |
| 12:8 | And the angell sayd vnto him: gyrde thy selfe and bynde on thy sandales. And so he dyd. And he sayde vnto him: cast thy mantle aboute the and folowe me. |
| 12:9 | And he came oute and folowed him and wist not that it was truthe which was done by the angell but thought he had sene a vision. |
| 12:10 | When they were past ye fyrst and ye seconde watche they came vnto yt yron gate yt ledeth vnto the cyte which opened to them by his awne accorde. And they went out and passed thorowe one strete and by and by the angell departed fro him. |
| 12:11 | And when Peter was come to him selfe he sayde: now I knowe of a surety that the Lorde hath sent his angell and hath delyvered me out of the honde of Herode and from all the waytynge for of the people of ye Iewes. |
| 12:12 | And as he consydred the thinge he cam to ye housse of Mary the mother of one Iohn which was called Marke also where many were gaddered to gedder in prayer. |
| 12:13 | As Peter knocked at the entry dore a damsell cam forth to herken named Rhoda. |
| 12:14 | And when she knew Peters voyce she opened not the entrey for gladnes but ran in and told how Peter stode before the entrey. |
| 12:15 | And they sayde vnto her: thou arte mad. And she bare them doune yt it was even so. Then sayde they: it is his angell. |
| 12:16 | Peter cotynued knockinge. When they had opened the dore and sawe him they were astonyed. |
| 12:17 | And he beckened vnto them with ye honde to holde their peace and tolde them by what meanes ye Lorde had brought him oute of the preson. And sayde: goo shew these thinges vnto Iames and to the brethren. And he departed and went into a nother place. |
| 12:18 | Assone as it was daye ther was no lyttell a doo amoge the soudyers what was becum of Peter. |
| 12:19 | When Herode had called for him and founde him not he examined the kepers and comaunded to departe. And he descended from Iewry to Cesarea and ther abode. |
| 12:20 | Herode was displeased with them of Tyre and Sydon. And they came all at once and made intercession vnto Blastus the kynges chamberlen and desyred peace because their countrey was norysshed by the kynges londe. |
| 12:21 | And upon a daye appoynted Herode arayed him in royall apparell and set him in his seate and made an oraycon vnto them. |
| 12:22 | And the people gave a shoute sayinge: it is ye voyce of a God and not of a man. |
| 12:23 | And immediatly the angell of ye Lorde smote him because he gave not God the honoure and he was eatyn of wormes and gave vp the goost. |
| 12:24 | And ye worde of God grewe and multiplied. |
| 12:25 | And Barnabas and Paul returned to Ierusalem when they had fulfilled their office and toke with them Iohn which was also called Marcus. |

| 12:6 | And whan Herode wolde haue broughte him out vnto the people, in the same nighte slepte Peter betwene two soudiers, bounde with two cheynes. And the kepers before the dore kepte the preson. |
| 12:7 | And beholde, the angell of the LORDE was there presente, and a lighte shyned in the habitacion, and he smote Peter on the syde, and waked him vp, and sayde: Aryse vp quyckly. And the cheynes fell of from his hondes. |
| 12:8 | And the angell sayde vnto him: Gyrde the, and put on thy shues. And he dyd so. And he sayde vnto him: Cast thy mantle aboute the, and folowe me. |
| 12:9 | And he wente out, and folowed him, and wyst not, that it was trueth that was done by ye angell, but thoughte he had sene a vision. |
| 12:10 | Neuertheles they wente thorow the first and seconde watch, and came to the yron gate, that ledeth vnto the cite, which opened to the by his awne acorde. And they wente out, and passed thorow one strete, and immediatly the angell departed from him. |
| 12:11 | And whan Peter was come to himself, he sayde: Now I knowe of a trueth, that ye LORDE hath sent his angell, and delyuered me out of the honde of Herode, and from all the waytinge for of the people of the Iewes. |
| 12:12 | And as he considered the thinge, he came to the house of Mary the mother of one Ihon, (which after his syrname was called Marke) where many were gathered together, and prayed. |

| 12:20 | But he was displeased with the of Tyre and Sido. Neuertheles they came vnto him with one accorde, and made intercession to Blastus the kynges chamberlayne, and desyred peace, because their countre was norished by the kynges londe. |
| 12:21 | But vpon a daye appoynted, Herode put on ye kyngly apparell, sat him downe vpon the iudgment seate, and made an oracion vnto them. |
| 12:22 | As for the people, they cried therto: This is a voyce of God, and not of a man. |
| 12:23 | Immediatly the angell of the LORDE smote him, because he gaue not God the honoure: And he was eaten vp of wormes, and gaue vp the goost. |
| 12:24 | But the worde of God grewe, and multiplyed. |
| 12:25 | As for Barnabas and Saul, they came agayne to Ierusalem, and delyuered the handreachinge, and toke with them Ihon, whose syrname was Marke. |
