Acts - Chapter: 20

>
20:1And after the vprore was ceased, Paul called vnto him the disciples, and imbraced them, & departed, for to go into Macedonia.
20:2And when he had gone ouer those parts, and had giuen them much exhortation, he came into Greece,
20:3And there abode three moneths: and when the Iewes layed waite for him, as hee was about to saile into Syria, hee purposed to returne thorow Macedonia.
20:4And there accompanied him into Asia, Sopater of Berea: and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus, and Secundus, and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus: and of Asia Tychicus and Trophimus.
20:5These going before, taried for vs at Troas:
20:6And wee sailed away from Philippi, after the dayes of vnleauened bread, and came vnto them to Troas in fiue dayes, where we abode seuen daies.
20:7And vpon the first day of the weeke, when the disciples came together to breake bread, Paul preached vnto them, ready to depart on the morrow, and continued his speach vntill midnight.
20:8And there were many lights in the vpper chamber where they were gathered together.
20:9And there sate in a window a certaine yong man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deepe sleepe, and as Paul was long preaching, hee sunke downe with sleepe, and fel downe from the third loft, and was taken vp dead.
20:10And Paul went downe, and fell on him, and embracing him, saide, Trouble not your selues, for his life is in him.
20:11When hee therefore was come vp againe, & had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, euen till breake of day, so he departed.
20:12And they brought the yong man aliue, and were not a little comforted.
20:13And wee went before to ship, and sailed vnto Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had hee appointed, minding himselfe to goe afoote.
20:14And when he met with vs at Assos, wee tooke him in, and came to Mitylene.
20:15And wee sailed thence, and came the next day ouer against Chios, and the next day we arriued at Samos, and taried at Trogyllium: and the next day we came to Miletus.
20:16For Paul had determined to saile by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Hierusalem the day of Pentecost.
20:17And from Miletus hee sent to Ephesus, and called the Elders of the Church.
20:18And when they were come to him, he said vnto them, Ye know from the first day that I came into Asia, after what maner I haue bene with you at all seasons,
20:19Seruing the Lord with all humilitie of minde, and with many teares, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Iewes:
20:20And how I kept backe nothing that was profitable vnto you, but haue shewed you, and haue taught you publikely, and from house to house,
20:21Testifying both to the Iewes and also to the Greekes, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Iesus Christ.
20:22And now behold, I goe bound in the spirit vnto Hierusalem, not knowing the things that shal befall me there:
20:23Saue that the holy Ghost witnesseth in euery city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.
20:24But none of these things mooue me, neither count I my life deare vnto my self, so that I might finish my course with ioy, & the ministery which I haue receiued of the Lord Iesus, to testifie the Gospel of the grace of God.
20:25And now behold, I know that ye all, among whom I haue gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
20:26Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.
20:27For I haue not shunned to declare vnto you all the counsell of God.
20:28Take heed therefore vnto your selues, & to all the flocke, ouer the which the holy Ghost hath made you ouerseers, to feed the Church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
20:29For I know this, that after my departing shall grieuous wolues enter in among you, not sparing the flocke.
20:30Also of your owne selues shal men arise, speaking peruerse things, to draw away disciples after them.
20:31Therefore watch, and remember that by the space of three yeeres, I ceased not to warne euery one night and day with teares.
20:32And now brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you vp, and to giue you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
20:33I haue coueted no mans siluer, or golde, or apparell.
20:34Yea, you your selues know, that these handes haue ministred vnto my necessities, and to them that were with me.
20:35I haue shewed you all things, how that so labouring, yee ought to support the weake, and to remember the words of the Lord Iesus, how he said, It is more blessed to giue, then to receiue.
20:36And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled downe, & prayed with them all.
20:37And they all wept sore, and fell on Pauls necke, and kissed him,
20:38Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him vnto the ship.

20:1Now whan the vproure was ceassed, Paul called the disciples vnto him, and toke his leue of them, and departed to go in to Macedonia.
20:2And whan he had gone thorow those partes, and exhorted them with many wordes, he came into Grekelonde,
20:3and there abode thre monethes. But whan the Iewes layed wayte for him, as he was aboute to sayle in to Syria, he purposed to turne agayne thorow Macedonia.
20:4There accompanied him in to Asia, Sopater of Berrea: and of Thessalonica, Aristarchus and Secundus: and Gaius of Derba, and Timotheus: but of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.
20:5These wente before, and taried for vs at Troada:
20:6but we sayled after the Easter dayes from Philippos, vnto ye fyfth daye, and came to them vnto Troada, and taried there seuen dayes.
20:7Vpon one of the Sabbathes, whan the disciples came together to breake bred, Paul preached vnto them, wyllinge to departe on the morow, and contynued the preachinge vnto mydnight.
20:8And there were many lightes in the chamber, where they were gathered together.
20:9There sat a yonge man named Eutychos, in a wyndow, and fell in to a depe slepe (whyle Paul was speakinge) and was ouercome with slepe, and fell downe from the thirde lofte, and was taken vp deed.
20:10But Paul wente downe, and fell on him, and enbraced him, and sayde: Make nothinge a doo, for his soule is in hi.
20:11Then wente he vp, and brake the bred, and ate, and talked moch with the, tyll the daye brake, and so departed.
20:12As for the yoge man, they broughte him alyue, and were not a litle conforted.
20:13But we wente afore in to the shippe, and sayled towarde Asson, wyllinge there to receaue Paul. For so had he appoynted, and wolde himselfe go on fote.
20:14Whan he was come to vs vnto Asson, we toke him in, and came to Mitylenes,
20:15and sayled from thence, and came on the nexte daye ouer agaynst Chios, and on the daye folowinge we aryued at Samos, and taried at Tragilion, and on the nexte daye came we to Mileton:
20:16for Paul had determed to sayle ouer by Ephesus, that he nede not to spende the tyme in Asia: for he haisted to be at Ierusalem vpo the Whitsondaye, yf it were possible for him.
20:17But from Mileton he sent vnto Ephesus, and called for the Elders of the congregacion.
20:18Whan they were come to him, he sayde vnto them: Ye knowe sence the first daye that I came in to Asia, after what maner I haue bene with you at all tyme,
20:19and serued ye LORDE with all humblenesse of mynde, and with many teares and tentacions, which happened vnto me by ye layenges of wayte of the Iewes,
20:20how yt I haue kepte backe nothinge yt was profitable, but that I haue shewed you, and taughte you openly, and priuately from house to house.
20:21And haue testifyed both vnto the Iewes & to the Grekes the repentaunce towarde God, and faith towarde oure LORDE Iesus.
20:22And now beholde, I go bounde in ye sprete vnto Ierusale, not knowinge what shal happen there vnto me,
20:23but yt the holy goost witnesseth in euery cite, and sayeth, that bondes and troubles abyde me there.
20:24But I regarde none of them, nether counte I my life dearer then my selfe, that I maye fulfyll my course with ioye, and the office yt I haue receaued of the LORDE Iesu, to testifye the Gospell of the grace of God.
20:25And now beholde, I knowe that ye shal se my face nomore, all ye, thorow whom I haue gone, and preached the kyngdome of God.
20:26Wherfore I take you to recorde this daye, that I am pure from the bloude of all men:
20:27For I haue kepte nothinge backe, but haue shewed you all the councell off God.
20:28Take hede therfore vnto youre selues, and to all the flocke, amonge the which the holy goost hath set you to be Bishoppes, to fede the congregacion of God, which he hath purchaced thorow his owne bloude.
20:29For this I knowe, that after my departinge there shal enter in amonge you greuous wolues, which shal not spare the flocke.
20:30Yee eue from amonge youre awne selues shal men aryse, speakynge peruerse doctryne, to drawe disciples after them.
20:31Therfore awake, and remembre, that by the space of thre yeares I ceassed not to warne euery one off you both nighte and daye with teares.
20:32And now brethren I commende you vnto God, and to ye worde of his grace, which is mightie to edifye you, and to geue you the enheritaunce amoge all them that are sanctified.
20:33I haue not desyred syluer, golde or rayment off eny off you.
20:34For ye youre selues knowe, that these handes haue mynistred vnto my necessities, and them that were with me.
20:35I haue shewed you all thinges, how that so labouringe ye oughte to receaue the weake, and to remembre the worde of the LORDE, how that he sayde: It is more blessed to geue, then to receaue.
20:36And whan he had sayde this, he kneled downe, and prayed with them all.
20:37But there was moch wepynge amonge them all, and they fell aboute Pauls necke, and kyssed him,
20:38and were sory, most of all because of the worde which he had sayde, that they shulde se his face nomore. And they accopanied him vnto the shippe.

20:1And aftir the noise ceesside, Poul clepide the disciplis, and monestide hem, and seide fare wel; and he wente forth, to go in to Macedonye.
20:2And whanne he hadde walkid bi tho coostis, and hadde monestid hem bi many wordis, he cam to Greece.
20:3Where whanne he hadde be thre monethis, the Jewis leiden aspies for hym, that was to saile in to Sirie; and he hadde counsel to turne ayen bi Macedonye.
20:4And Sosipater of Pirri Boroense folowide hym; of Thessolonycenses, Astirak, and Secoundus, and Gayus Derbeus, and Tymothe; and Asians, Titicus and Trofimus.
20:5These for thei wenten bifore, aboden vs at Troade.
20:6For we schippiden aftir the daies of therf looues fro Filippis, and cam to hem at Troade in fyue daies, where we dwelten seuene daies.
20:7And in the first dai of the woke, whanne we camen to breke breed, Poul disputide with hem, and schulde go forth in the morew;
20:8and he drow along the sermoun til in to mydnyyt. And many laumpes weren in the soler, where we weren gaderyd togidir.
20:9And a yong man, Euticus bi name, sat on the wyndowe, whanne he was fallun in to an heuy sleep, while Poul disputide long, al slepynge he felle doun fro the thridde stage; and he was takun vp, and was brouyt deed.
20:10To whom whanne Poul cam doun, he lay on hym, and biclippide, and seide, Nyle ye be troblid; for his soule is in hym.
20:11And he wente vp, and brak breed, and eete, and spak ynowy vnto the dai; and so he wente forth.
20:12And thei brouyten the childe alyue, and thei weren coumfortid greetli.
20:13And we wenten vp in to a schip, and schippiden in to Asson, to take Poul fro thennus; for so he hadde disposid to make iourney bi loond.
20:14And whanne he foond vs in Asson, we token hym, and camen to Mitilene.
20:15And fro thennus we schippiden in the dai suynge, and we camen ayens Chyum, and another dai we hauenyden at Samum, and in the dai suynge we camen to Mylete.
20:16And Poul purposide to schip ouer to Efesi, lest ony tariyng were maad to hym in Asie; for he hiyede, if it were possible to hym, that he schulde be in the dai of Pentecost at Jerusalem.
20:17Fro Mylete he sente to Effesi, and clepide the grettest men of birthe of the chirche.
20:18And whanne thei camen to hym, and weren togidir, he seide to hem, Ye witen fro the firste dai, in which Y cam in to Asie, hou with you bi eche tyme Y was,
20:19seruynge to the Lord with al mekenesse, and mildnesse, and teeris, and temptaciouns, that felden to me of aspiyngis of Jewis;
20:20hou Y withdrowe not of profitable thingis to you, that Y telde not to you, and tauyte you opynli, and bi housis;
20:21and Y witnesside to Jewis and to hethene men penaunce in to God, and feith in to oure Lord Jhesu Crist.
20:22And now lo! Y am boundun in spirit, and go in to Jerusalem; and Y knowe not what thingis schulen come to me in it,
20:23but that the Hooli Goost `bi alle citees witnessith to me, and seith, that boondis and tribulaciouns at Jerusalem abiden me.
20:24But Y drede no thing of these, nether Y make my lijf preciousere than my silf, so that Y end my cours, and the mynysterie of the word, which Y resseyuede of the Lord Jhesu, to witnesse the gospel of the grace of God.
20:25And `now lo! Y woot, that ye schulen no more se my face, alle ye bi whiche Y passide, prechynge the kingdom of God.
20:26Wherfor Y witnesse to you this day, that Y am cleen of the blood of alle men.
20:27For Y fley not awey, that Y telde not to you al the counsel of God.
20:28Take ye tente to you, and to al the flocke, in which the Hooli Goost hath set you bischops, to reule the chirche of God, which he purchaside with his blood.
20:29Y woot, that aftir my departyng, rauyschinge wolues schulen entre in to you, `and spare not the flok;
20:30and men spekinge schrewid thingis schulen rise of you silf, that thei leden awei disciplis aftir hem.
20:31For which thing wake ye, holdinge in mynde that bi thre yeer nyyt and dai Y ceesside not with teeris monestinge ech of you.
20:32And now Y bitake you to God and to the word of his grace, that is myyti to edifie and yyue eritage in alle that ben maad hooli.
20:33And of no man Y coueitide siluer, and gold, ether cloth, as you silf witen;
20:34for to tho thingis that weren nedeful to me, and to these that ben with me, these hoondis mynystriden.
20:35Alle these thingis Y schewide to you, for so it bihoueth men trauelinge to resseyue sike men, and to haue mynde of the `word of the Lord Jhesu; for he seide, It is more blesful to yyue, than to resseyue.
20:36And whanne he hadde seid these thingis, he knelide, and he preiede with alle hem.
20:37And greet weping of alle men was maad; and thei felden on the necke of Poul, and kissiden hym,
20:38and sorewiden moost in the word that he seide, for thei schulen no more se his face. And thei ledden hym to the schip.
