Acts - Chapter: 21


21:1	And it came to passe, that after wee were gotten fro them, and had lanched, wee came with a straight course vnto Choos, and the day following vnto Rhodes, and from thence vnto Patara.
21:2	And finding a ship sailing ouer vnto Phenicea, wee went abroad, and set foorth.
21:3	Now when wee had discouered Cyprus, we left it on the left hand, and sailed into Syria, and landed at Tyre: for there the shippe was to vnlade her burden.
21:4	And finding disciples, wee taried there seuen dayes: who said to Paul through the Spirit, that hee should not goe vp to Hierusalem.
21:5	And when we had accomplished those dayes, we departed, and went our way, and they all brought vs on our way, with wiues and children, till wee were out of the citie: and wee kneeled downe on the shore, and prayed.
21:6	And when we had taken our leaue one of another, we tooke ship, and they returned home againe.
21:7	And when wee had finished our course from Tyre, wee came to Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.
21:8	And the next day we that were of Pauls company, departed, and came vnto Cesarea, and wee entred into the house of Philip the Euangelist (which was one of the seuen) & abode with him.
21:9	And ye same man had foure daughters, virgins, which did prophesie.
21:10	And as wee taried there many dayes, there came downe from Iudea a certaine Prophet, named Agabus.
21:11	And when he was come vnto vs, he tooke Pauls girdle, and bound his owne hands and feete, and said, Thus sayth the holy Ghost, So shall the Iewes at Hierusalem binde the man that oweth this girdle, and shall deliuer him into the hands of the Gentiles.
21:12	And when we heard these things, both we and they of that place, besought him not to goe vp to Hierusalem.
21:13	Then Paul answered, What meane ye to weepe and to breake mine heart? for I am ready, not to bee bound onely, but also to die at Hierusalem for the Name of the Lord Iesus.
21:14	And when he would not bee perswaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.
21:15	And after those dayes we tooke vp our cariages, & went vp to Hierusalem.
21:16	There went with vs also certaine of the disciples of Cesarea, and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an old disciple, with who we should lodge.
21:17	And when we were come to Hierusalem, the brethren receiued vs gladly
21:18	And the day following Paul went in with vs vnto Iames, and all the Elders were present.
21:19	And when hee had saluted them, hee declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministerie.
21:20	And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, & said vnto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Iewes there are which beleeue, and they are all zealous of the Law.
21:21	And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the Iewes which are among the Gentiles, to forsake Moses, saying, that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walke after the customes.
21:22	What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will heare that thou art come.
21:23	Doe therefore this that we say to thee: Wee haue foure men which haue a vow on them,
21:24	Then take, and purifie thy selfe with them, & bee at charges with them, that they may shaue their heads: and all may know that those things wherof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing, but that thou thy selfe also walkest orderly, and keepest the Law.
21:25	As touching the Gentiles which beleeue, wee haue written and concluded, that they obserue no such thing, saue onely that they keepe themselues from things offered to idoles, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.
21:26	Then Paul tooke the men, and the next day purifying himselfe with them, entred into the Temple, to signifie the accomplishment of the dayes of purification, vntill that an offering should be offered for euery one of them:
21:27	And when the seuen dayes were almost ended, the Iewes which were of Asia, when they saw him in the Temple, stirred vp all the people, and laide hands on him,
21:28	Crying out, Men of Israel, helpe: this is ye man that teacheth al men euery where against the people, and the law, and this place: and farther brought Greeks also into the Temple, and hath polluted this holy place.
21:29	(For they had seene before with him in the citie, Trophimus an Ephesian, whome they supposed that Paul had brought into the Temple.)
21:30	And all the citie was moued, and the people ran together: and they tooke Paul, and drew him out of the Temple: and forthwith the doores were shut.
21:31	And as they went about to kil him, tidings came vnto the chiefe captaine of the band, that all Hierusalem was in an vprore.
21:32	Who immediatly tooke souldiers, and Centurions, and ran downe vnto them: and when they saw the chiefe captaine and the souldiers, they left beating of Paul.
21:33	Then the chiefe captain came neere, and tooke him, & commanded him to be bound with two chains, and demanded who he was, and what hee had done.
21:34	And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: and when he could not know the certaintie for the tumult, he commanded him to be caried into the castle.
21:35	And when he came vpon ye staires, so it was that he was borne of the souldiers, for the violence of the people.
21:36	For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, Away with him.
21:37	And as Paul was to bee led into the castle, hee saide vnto the chiefe captaine, May I speake vnto thee? Who saide, Canst thou speake Greeke?
21:38	Art not thou that Egyptian which before these daies madest an vprore, and leddest out into the wildernesse foure thousand men that were murtherers?
21:39	But Paul said, I am a man which am a Iew of Tarsus, a citie in Cilicia, a citizen of no meane citie: & I beseech thee suffer me to speake vnto the people.
21:40	And when he had giuen him licence, Paul stood on the staires, and beckened with the hand vnto the people: and when there was made a great silence, he spake vnto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying.


21:1	Now whan it fortuned that we had launched forth and were departed from them, we came with a straight course vnto Coon, and on the daye folowinge vnto the Rhodes, and from thence vnto Patara.
21:2	And whan we founde a shippe ready to sayle vnto Phenices, we wente aborde and set forth.
21:3	But wha we came within the sighte of Cypers, we lefte it on the lefte hande, and sayled vnto Syria, and came vnto Tyre: for there the shippe shulde laye forth the ware.
21:4	And whan we had founde disciples, we taried there seuen dayes. And they tolde Paul thorow the sprete, that he shulde not go vp to Ierusalem.
21:5	And it fortuned wha we had fulfilled those dayes, we departed, and wente oure wayes, and they all broughte vs on oure waye with wyues and childre, tyll we were come out of ye cite, and we kneled downe vpo the shore, and prayed.
21:6	And whan we had taken oure leue one off another, we toke shippe, but they turned agayne vnto theirs.
21:7	As for vs we ended the course from Tyre, and came to Ptolomaida, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one daye.
21:8	On the nexte daye we yt were with Paul, departed, and came vnto Cesarea, & entred in to the house of Philippe the Euangelist (which was one of the seue) and abode with him.
21:9	The same had foure doughters, which were virgins, and prophecied.
21:10	And as we taried there mo dayes, there came downe from Iewry a prophet, named Agabus.
21:11	Wha he was come vnto vs, he toke Pauls gerdell, and bounde his hades and fete, and sayde: Thus sayeth ye holy goost: The man whose gerdell this is, shal the Iewes bynde thus at Ierusalem, and shal delyuer him in to the handes of the Heythe.
21:12	Whan we herhe this, both we and they that were of the same place, besoughte him, that he wolde not go vp to Ierusalem.
21:13	Then answered Paul and sayde: What do ye, wepynge, and breakynge my hert? For I am redye not onely to be bounde, but also to dye at Ierusalem for ye name of the LORDE Iesu.
21:14	But wha he wolde not be persuaded, we ceassed, and sayde: The will of the LORDE be fulfylled.
21:15	And after those dayes we were ready, & wente vp to Ierusalem:
21:16	There came with vs also certayne of the disciples off Cesarea, and broughte with them one of Cypers, named Mnason, an olde disciple, with whom we shulde lodge.
21:17	Now wha we came to Ierusalem, the brethren receaued vs gladly.
21:18	But on the nexte daye Paul wente in with vs vnto Iames, and all the Elders came together.
21:19	And whan he had saluted them, he tolde by order, what God had done amoge the Heythen by his mynistracion.
21:20	Whan they herde that, they praysed the LORDE, and sayde vnto him: Brother, thou seyst how many thousande Iewes there are which beleue, and are all Zelous ouer ye lawe.
21:21	But they are enfourmed agaynst the, that thou teachest all the Iewes which are amoge the Heythe, to forsake Moses, and sayest that they oughte not to circumcyse their children, ner to walke after the same custome.
21:22	What is it therfore? The multitude must nedes come together, for they shal heare that thou art come.
21:23	Do this therfore that we saye vnto the: We haue foure men, which haue a vowe on them,
21:24	take them vnto ye, and purifye thyselfe with them, and do the cost on them, that they maye shaue their heades: and they shal knowe, that it is nothinge, wherof they are enfourmed agaynst the, but that thou also walkest and kepest the lawe.
21:25	For as touchinge them that beleue amonge the Heythen, we haue wrytten, and concluded, that they shulde obserue no soch, but onely to kepe them selues from the offeringes of Idols, from bloude, from stragled, and from whordome.
21:26	Then Paul toke the men vnto him, and was purified with them on the nexte daye, and entred in to the temple, declaringe that he fulfylled the dayes of purificacion, tyll there was an offeringe offred for euery one of them.
21:27	But whan the seuen dayes were allmost fulfylled, the Iewes of Asia sawe him in the temple, and moued all the people, layed handes vpon him,
21:28	and cryed: Ye men of Israel, helpe, this is the man, that teacheth all men euery where agaynst oure people, the lawe, and this place. He hath broughte Grekes also in to the temple, and hath defyled this holy place.
21:29	For they had sene Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the cite, him they thoughte yt Paul had broughte in to the temple.
21:30	And all the cite was moued, and the people ranne together. And they toke Paul, and drue him out off the temple, and forth with the dores were shut to.
21:31	But whan they wete aboute to kyll him, tydinges came to the chefe captayne of the company, that all Ierusalem was moued.
21:32	Which immediatly toke soudyers and captaynes vnto him, and ranne in amoge them. Whan they sawe the captayne and the soudyers, they lefte smytinge of Paul.
21:33	Whan the captayne came nye, he toke him, and commaunded him to be bounde with two cheynes, and axed what he was, and what he had done.
21:34	One cried this, another that amonge the people. But whan he coulde not knowe the certente because of the rumoure, he commaunded him to be caried in to the castell.
21:35	And wha he came to the steppes, it fortuned that he was borne of ye soudyers because of the violence of the people.
21:36	For the multitude off the people folowed after, and cryed: Awaye with him.
21:37	Whan Paul was now to be caried in to the castell, he sayde vnto ye captayne: Maye I speake vnto the? He sayde: Canst thou Greke?
21:38	Art not thou the Egipcian, which before these dayes maydest an vproure, & leddest out in to the wyldernesse foure thousande preuy murthurers?
21:39	Paull sayde: I am a man which am a Iewe off Tharsis, a citesyn of a famous cite in Celicia: I beseke the, suffre me to speake vnto the people.
21:40	Whan he had geuen him lycence, Paul stode on the steppes, and beckened with the hande vnto the people. Now whan there was made a greate sylece, he spake vnto them in Hebrue, and sayde:


21:1	And whanne it was don, that we schulden seile, and weren passid awei fro hem, with streiyt cours we camen to Choum, and the day suynge to Rodis, and fro thennus to Patiram, and fro thennus to Myram.
21:2	And whanne we founden a schip passinge ouer to Fenyce, we wenten vp in to it, and sailden forth.
21:3	And whanne we apperiden to Cipre, we leften it at the left half, and seiliden in to Sirie, and camen to Tire. For there the schip schulde be vnchargid.
21:4	And whanne we foundun disciplis, we dwelliden there seuene daies; whiche seiden bi spirit to Poul, that he schulde not go vp to Jerusalem.
21:5	And whanne the daies weren fillid, we yeden forth, and alle men with wyues and children ledden forth vs with outen the citee; and we kneliden in the see brenke, and we preieden.
21:6	And whanne we hadden maad fare wel togidre, we wenten vp into the schip; and thei turneden ayen in to her owne places.
21:7	And whanne the schip sailinge was fillid fro Tire, we camen doun to Tolamayda, and whanne we hadden gret wel the britheren, we dwelliden o dai at hem.
21:8	And another dai we yeden forth, and camen to Cesarie. And we entriden in to the hous of Filip euangelist, that was oon of the seuene, and dwelliden at hym.
21:9	And to hym weren foure douytris, virgyns, that profecieden.
21:10	And whanne we dwelliden there bi summe daies, a profete, Agabus bi name, cam ouer fro Judee.
21:11	This whanne he cam to vs, took the girdil of Poul, and boond togidere hise feet and hoondis, and seide, The Hooli Goost seith these thingis, Thus Jewis schulen bynde in Jerusalem the man, whos is this girdil; and thei schulen bytake into hethene mennys hoondis.
21:12	Which thing whanne we herden, we preieden, and thei that weren of that place, that he schulde not go vp to Jerusalem.
21:13	Thanne Poul answeride, and seide, What doen ye, wepinge and turmentinge myn herte? For Y am redi, not oonli to be boundun, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jhesu.
21:14	And whanne we myyten not counseile hym, we weren stille, and seiden, The wille of the Lord be don.
21:15	And aftir these daies we weren maad redi, and wenten vp to Jerusalem.
21:16	And summe of the disciplis camen with vs fro Cesarie, and ledden with hem a man, Jason of Cipre, an elde disciple, at whom we schulden be herborid.
21:17	And whanne we camen to Jerusalem, britheren resseyueden vs wilfulli.
21:18	And in the dai suynge Poul entride with vs to James, and alle the eldre men weren gaderid.
21:19	Whiche whanne he hadde gret, he telde bi alle thingis, what God hadde doon in hethene men, bi the mynysterie of hym.
21:20	And whanne thei herden, thei magnyfiden God, and seiden to hym, Brothir, thou seest how many thousyndis ben in Jewis, that han bileued to God, and alle ben loueris of the lawe.
21:21	And thei herden of thee, that thou techist departing fro Moises of thilk Jewis that ben bi hethene men, that seien, that thei owen not circumcide her sones, nether owen to entre by custom.
21:22	Therfor what is? It bihoueth that the multitude come togidre; for thei schulen here, that thou art come.
21:23	Therfor do thou this thing, that we seien to thee. Ther ben to vs foure men, that han a vow on hem.
21:24	Take thou these men, and halowe thee with hem; honge on hem, that thei schaue her heedis; and that alle men wite, that the thingis that thei herden of thee ben false, but that thou walkist, and thi silf kepist the lawe.
21:25	But of these that bileueden of hethene men, we writen, demynge that thei absteyne hem fro thing offrid to idols, and fro blood, and also fro stranglid thing, and fro fornicacioun.
21:26	Thanne Poul took the men, and in the dai suynge he was purified with hem, and entride in to the temple, and schewide the filling of daies of purifying, til the offring was offrid for ech of hem.
21:27	And whanne seuene daies weren endid, the Jewis that weren of Asie, whanne thei saien him in the temple, stiriden al the puple, and leyden hondis on hym,
21:28	and crieden, Men of Israel, helpe ye vs. This is the man, that ayens the puple and the lawe and this place techith euery where alle men, more ouer and hath led hethene men in to the temple, and hath defoulid this hooli place.
21:29	For thei seyen Trofimus of Effesi in the citee with hym, whom thei gessiden that Poul hadde brouyt in to the temple.
21:30	And al the citee was moued, and a rennyng togider of the puple was maad. And thei token Poul, and drowen him out of the temple; and anoon the yatis weren closid.
21:31	And whanne thei souyten to sle hym, it was teld to the tribune of the cumpany of knyytis, that al Jerusalem is confoundid.
21:32	Which anoon took knyytis, and centuriens, and ran to hem. And whanne thei hadden seen the tribune, and the knyytis, thei ceessiden to smyte Poul.
21:33	Thanne the tribune cam, and cauyte hym, and comaundide, that he were boundun with twei cheynes; and axide, who he was, and what he hadde don.
21:34	But othere crieden other thing among the puple. And whanne he miyte `knowe no certeyn thing for the noise, he comaundide hym to be led in to the castels.
21:35	And whanne Poul cam to the grees, it bifel that he was borun of kniytis, for strengthe of the puple.
21:36	For the multitude of the puple suede hym, and criede, Take hym awei.
21:37	And whanne Poul bigan to be led in to the castels, he seide to the tribune, Whether it is leueful `to me, to speke ony thing to thee?
21:38	And he seide, Kanst thou Greek? Whether thou art not the Egipcian, which bifor these daies mouedist a noise, and leddist out in to desert foure thousynde of men, mensleeris?
21:39	And Poul seide to hym, For Y am a Jew, of Tharse of Cilicie, a citeseyn, which citee is not vnknowun. And Y preye thee, suffre me to speke to the puple.
21:40	And whanne he suffride, Poul stood in the grees, and bikenede with the hoond to the puple. And whanne a greet silence was maad, he spak in Ebrew tunge, and seide,
