Acts - Chapter: 24


24:1	After fyue dayes, Ananias the hye preste descended with the elders, and with a certayne oratour named Tartullus, which enformed the debite against Paul.
24:2	And when Paul was called forth, Tartullus beganne to accuse hym, saying: Seyinge that we lyue in greate quietnes by the meanes of the, and that many good thynges are done vnto thys nacion thorowe thy prouidence.
24:3	that alowe we euer and in all places moost noble Felix with all thankes.
24:4	Notwithstandynge, that I be not tedious vnto the, I praye the, that thou woldest heare vs of thy curtesy a feaw wordes:
24:5	For we haue founde this man a pestilent felowe, and a mouer of debate vnto all the Iewes in the whole world, and a maynteyner of the secte of the Nazarites
24:6	which hath also enforsed to pollute the temple. Whom we toke, and wolde haue iudged accordinge to our lawe:
24:7	but the hye captayne Lisias came vpon vs, and with great violence toke hym awaye oute of oure handes,
24:8	commaundynge hys accusars to come vnto the. Of whom thou mayest (yf thou wilt enquyre) knowe the certenty of all these thinges, wherof we accuse him:
24:9	The Iewes lykewyse affermed, sayinge, that these thinges were euen so.
24:10	Then Paul (after that the debite hym selfe had beckened vnto hym that he shulde speake) answered: With a moare quiet minde do I answere for my selfe,
24:11	for as moche as I vnderstande, that thou hast bene of many yeares a iudge vnto thys people, because that thou mayest knowe, that ther are yet, but twelue dayes sence I went vp to Ierusalem for to worshyppe,
24:12	and they nether founde me in the temple disputynge with eny man, ether raysinge vp the people, nether in the Synagoges, nor in the cytie.
24:13	Nether can they proue the thynges wherof they accuse me
24:14	But thys I confesse vnto the, that after the waye (which they call heresye) so worship I the God of my fathers, beleuynge all thinges which are wrytten in the lawe & the prophetes,
24:15	and haue hope towardes God, that the same resurreccion of the deed (which they them selues loke for also) shalbe, both of iust and vniust.
24:16	And therfore study I to haue allwaye a cleare conscience toward God, and towarde men.
24:17	But after many yeares, I came and brought almes to my people and offerynges
24:18	in the which they founde me purifyed in the temple, nether with multitude, nor yet with vnquyetnesse. Howbeit there were certen Iewes out of Asia,
24:19	which ought to be here present before the, and accuse me, yf they had ought agaynst me:
24:20	or elles lett these same here saye, yf they haue found any euyll doynge in me, whyle I stande here in the councell:
24:21	except it be for this one voyce, that I cryed standynge among them. of the resurreccyon from death am I iudged of you thys daye.
24:22	When Felix heard these thinges, he deferde them, for he knew very well of that waye, and sayde: when Lysias the captayne is come downe. I will knowe the vtmost of your matter.
24:23	And he commaunded an vndercaptayne to kepe Paul, and to let hym haue rest, and that he shuld forbyd none of hys acquayntaunce to minister vnto him, or to come vnto hym.
24:24	And after a certayne dayes, whan Felix came with his wyfe Drusilla (which was a Iewesse) he called forth Paul, and hearde hym of the fayth, which is towarde Chris
24:25	And as he preached of ryghtewesnes temperaunce, and iudgement to come, Felix trembled, and answered: Go thy waye for thys tyme: whan I haue a conuenient season, I wyll sende for the.
24:26	He hoped also, that money shulde haue bene geuen hym of Paul, that he myght loose him: wherfore, he called hym the oftenner and comened with hym.
24:27	But after two yeare, Festus Porcius came into Felix rowme. And Felix wyllynge to shewe the Iewes a pleasure, lefte Paul in preson bounde.


24:1	And aftir fyue daies, Ananye, prince of preestis, cam doun with summe eldere men, and Terculle, a feir speker, which wenten to the precident ayens Poul.
24:2	And whanne Poul was somened, Terculle bigan to accuse hym, and seide, Whanne in myche pees we doon bi thee, and many thingis ben amendid bi thi wisdom, euere more and euery where,
24:3	thou best Felix, we han resseyued with al doyng of thankingis.
24:4	But lest Y tarie thee lengere, Y preie thee, schortly here vs for thi mekenesse.
24:5	We han foundun this wickid man stirynge dissencioun to alle Jewis in al the world, and auctour of dissencioun of the secte of Nazarenus; and he also enforside to defoule the temple;
24:6	whom also we token, and wolden deme, after oure lawe.
24:7	But Lisias, the trybune, cam with greet strengthe aboue, and delyuerede hym fro oure hoondis;
24:8	and comaundide hise accuseris to come to thee, of whom thou demynge, maist knowe of alle these thingis, of whiche we accusen hym.
24:9	And Jewis putten to, and seiden, that these thingis hadden hem so.
24:10	And Poul answeride, whanne the president grauntide hym to seie, Of mony yeeris Y knowe thee, that thou art domesman `to this folk, and Y schal do ynowy for me with good resoun.
24:11	For thou maist knowe, for to me ben not more than twelue daies, sithen Y cam vp to worschipe in Jerusalem;
24:12	and nether in the temple thei founden me disputinge with ony man, nether makynge concours of puple, nether in synagogis, nether in citee;
24:13	nether thei moun preue to thee, of the whiche thingis thei now accusen me.
24:14	But Y knowleche to thee this thing, that aftir the secte which thei seien eresie, so Y serue to God the fadir, `and Y bileue to alle thingis that ben writun in the lawe and profetis; and Y haue hope in God,
24:15	whiche also thei hem silf abiden, the ayenrisyng `to comynge of iust men and wickid.
24:16	In this thing Y studie with outen hirtyng, to haue concience to God, and to men euermore.
24:17	But after many yeeris, Y cam to do almes dedis to my folc, and offryngis, and auowis;
24:18	in whiche thei founden me purified in the temple, not with company, nether with noise. And thei cauyten me, and thei crieden, and seiden, Take awei oure enemye.
24:19	And summe Jewis of Asie, whiche it behofte to be now present at thee, and accuse, if thei hadden ony thing ayens me,
24:20	ether these hem silf seie, if thei founden in me ony thing of wickidnesse, sithen Y stonde `in the counsel,
24:21	but oneli of this vois, by which Y criede stondynge among hem, For of the ayenrisyng of deed men Y am demyd this dai of you.
24:22	Sothely Felix delayede hem, and knewe moost certeynli of the weie, and seide, Whanne Lisias, the tribune, schal come doun, Y schal here you.
24:23	And he comaundide to a centurien to kepe hym, and that he hadde reste, nethir to forbede ony man to mynystre of his owne thingis to him.
24:24	And after summe dayes Felix cam, with Drussille his wijf, that was a Jewesse, and clepide Poul, and herde of him the feith that is in Crist Jhesu.
24:25	And while he disputide of riytwisnesse, and chastite, and of dom to comynge, Felix was maad tremblinge, and answerde, That perteneth now, go; but in tyme couenable Y schal clepe thee.
24:26	Also he hopide, that money schulde be youun to hym of Poul; for which thing eft he clepide hym, and spak with hym.
24:27	And whanne twei yeeris weren fillid, Felix took a successoure, Porcius Festus; and Felix wolde yyue grace to Jewis, and lefte Poul boundun.

24:3	(most mightie Felix)that alowe we euer and in all places with all thankes.
24:4	Notwithstondinge yt I be nomore tedious vnto the, I praye the, that of thy curtesy thou woldest heare vs a few wordes.
24:5	We haue founde this man a pestilent felowe, and a sterer vp of sedicion amonge all the Iewes thorow out all the worlde, and a manteyner of the secte of the Nazaretes,
24:6	and hath taken in hande also to suspende the temple, whom we toke, and wolde haue iudged him acordinge to oure lawe.
24:7	But Lysias the hye captayne came vpo vs, and with greate violence delyuered him out of oure handes,
24:8	and commaunded his accusers to come vnto the: of whom (yf thou wilt enquyre) thou mayest haue knowlege of all these thinges, wherof we accuse him.
24:9	The Iewes likewyse affirmed and sayde, that it was euen so.
24:10	But Paul (whan the debyte had beckened vnto him, that he shulde speake) answered: Seynge I knowe that thou hast bene iudge now many yeares amonge this people, I wil not be afrayed to answere for my selfe,
24:11	because that thou mayest knowe, that there are yet no more but twolue dayes sence I came vp to Ierusalem for to worshippe,
24:12	and that they nether founde me in the temple disputinge with eny man, or makynge eny vproure amonge the people, ner in ye synagoges, ner in the cite:
24:13	nether can they proue the thinges, wherof they accuse me.
24:14	But this I confesse vnto the, that after this waye which they call heresye, so worshippe I the God of my fathers, that I beleue all that is wrytten in the lawe and in the prophetes,

24:19	which shulde be here presente before the, and accuse me, yf they had oughte agaynst me:
24:20	or els lett these same here saye, yf they haue founde eny vnrighteousnes in me, whyle I stonde here before ye councell:
24:21	excepte it be for this one worde, that I cried stondinge amonge them: Of the resurreccion off the deed am I iudged of you this daye.
24:22	Whan Felix herde this, he dyfferred the (for he knewe very well of that waye) and sayde: Whan Lysias the vpper captayne commeth downe, I wyl knowe ye vttemost of youre matter
24:23	But he commaunded the vndercaptayne to kepe Paul, and to let him haue rest, and that he shulde forbydde none of his acquauntauce to mynister vnto him, or to come vnto him.
24:24	But after certayne dayes came Felix wt his wife Drusilla, which was a Iewesse, and called for Paul, and herde him of the faith in Christ.
24:25	Howbeit whan Paul spake off righteousnesse, and off chastite and off the iudgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered: Go thy waye for this tyme. Whan I haue a conuenyent tyme, I wil sende for the.
24:26	He hoped also, that money shulde haue bene geuen him of Paul, therfore called he oft for him, and commened with him.
24:27	But after two yeares came Portius Festus in to felix rowme. Yet Felix wyllinge to shewe the Iewes a pleasure, left Paul bounde.
