25:1	When Festus had receaued the offyce, after thre dayes, he ascended from Cesarea vnto Ierusalem.
25:2	Then enformed him the hye prestes and the chefe of the Iewes, of Paul. And they besought hym,
25:3	and desyred fauour agaynst hym, that he wolde sende for hym to Ierusalem: and they layde awayte for hym in the waye, to kyll hym.
25:4	Festus answered, that Paul shulde be kept. at Cesarea, but that he hym selfe wold shorly departe thyther.
25:5	Let them therfore (sayde he) which among you are able, come downe with vs, and accuse hym, yf there be any fawte in the man.
25:6	When he had taryed there amonge them more then ten dayes, he wente downe vnto Cesarea and the nexte daye sat downe in the iudgement seate, and commaunded Paul to be brought.
25:7	Which when he was come, the Iewes which were come from Ierusalem, stode aboute hym, and layde many and greueous complayntes agaynst Paul, whych they coulde not proue,
25:8	as longe as he answered for hym self that he had nether agaynst the lawe of the Iewes, nether agaynst the temple, nor yet agaynst Cesar offended any thynge at all.
25:9	Festus wyllynge to do the Iewes a pleasure, answered Paul, and sayde: wylt thou go vp to Ierusalem, and there be iudged of these thynges before me?
25:10	Then sayde Paul: I stande at Cesares iudgement seate, where I ought to be iudged. To the Iewes haue I no harme done, as thou very well knowest.
25:11	If I haue hurte them, or commytted any thyng worthy of death, I refuse not to dye. If no one of these thynges are, where of they accuse me, no man maye delyuer me to them, I appeale vnto Cesar.
25:12	Then spake Festus with deliberacyon, and answered: Thou hast appealed vnto Cesar: vnto Cesar shalt thou go.
25:13	And after a certayne dayes, kinge Agripa and Bernice came vnto Cesarea to salute Festus.
25:14	And whan they had bene there a good ceason, Festus rehearsed Paules cause vnto the kynge, sayinge: there is a certayne man lefte in preson of Felix,
25:15	aboute whom whan I came to Ierusalem, the hye prestes and elders of the Iewes enfourmed me, and desyred to haue iudgement agaynst hym.
25:16	To whom I answered: It is not the maner of the Romaynes, for fauoure to delyuer any man, that he shulde perysshe, before that he which is accused, haue the accusars before hym, and haue lycence to answere for hym selfe, concernynge the cryme layde agaynst hym.
25:17	Therfore, whan they were come hyther, withoute any delaye, on the morowe I sate to geue iudgment, and commaunded the man to be brought forth.
25:18	Agaynst whom, whan the accusars stode vp, they brought noone accusacion of soch thynges as I supposed:
25:19	but had certen questious agaynst hym of theyr awne supersticion, and of one Iesus which was deed, whom Paul affyrmed to be alyue.
25:20	And because I douted of soche maner of questions, I asked hym, whether he wolde go to Ierusalem, and there be iudged of these matters.
25:21	But whan Paul had appealed to be kepte vnto the knowledge of Cesar, I commaunded hym to be kepte, tyll I myght sende hym to Cesar.
25:22	Agripa sayde vnto Festus: I wolde also heare the man my selfe. Tomorowe, (sayde he) thou shalt heare hym.
25:23	And on the morowe whan Agripa was come and Bernice, with greate pompe, and were entred into the councell house, with the captaynes and chefe men of the cytie, at Festus commaundement was Paul brought forth.
25:24	And Festus sayde: kyng Agripa, & all ye men which are heare present with vs, ye se thys man, about whom all the multitude of the Iewes haue intreated me, both at Ierusalem and also here cryinge, that he ought not to lyue any lenger.
25:25	Yet founde I nothyng worthy of death, that he had committed. Neuertheles, seying that he hath appealed to Cesar, I haue determined to send hym.
25:26	Of whom I haue no certayne thyng to write vnto my lord. Wherfore, I haue brought hym vnto you, and specially vnto the: O kynge Agripa, that after examinacyon had, I myght haue sumwhat to wryte.
25:27	For me thincketh it vnreasonable, for to sende a presoner, and not to shewe the causes which are layde agaynst hym


25:1	Therfor whanne Festus cam in to the prouynce, aftir the thridde dai he wente vp to Jerusalem fro Cesarie.
25:2	And the princis of prestis, and the worthieste of the Jewis wenten to hym ayens Poul, and preieden hym,
25:3	and axiden grace ayens hym, that he schulde comaunde hym to be led to Jerusalem; and thei settiden aspies to sle hym in the weie.
25:4	But Festus answerde, that Poul schulde be kept in Cesarie; sotheli that he hym silf schulde procede more auisili. Therfor he seide, Thei that in you ben myyti,
25:5	come doun togidere; and if ony crime is in the man, accuse thei hym.
25:6	And he dwellede among hem no more than eiyte ether ten daies, and cam doun to Cesarie; and the tother dai he sat for domesman, and comaundide Poul to be brouyt.
25:7	And whanne he was brouyt forth, Jewis stoden aboute hym, whiche camen doun fro Jerusalem, puttynge ayens hym many and greuouse causis, whiche thei miyten not preue.
25:8	For Poul yeldide resoun in alle thingis, That nether ayens the lawe of Jewis, nether ayens the temple, nether ayens the emperoure, Y synnede ony thing.
25:9	But Festus wolde do grace to the Jewis, and answeride to Poul, and seide, Wolt thou gon vp to Jerusalem, and there be demyd of these thingis bifore me?
25:10	And Poul seide, At the domplace of the emperour Y stonde, where it bihoueth me to be demed. Y haue not noied the Jewis, as thou knowist wel.
25:11	For if Y haue noyed, ether don ony thing worthi deth, Y forsake not to die; but if no thing of tho is, that thei accusen me, no man may yyue me to hem. Y appele to the emperour.
25:12	Thanne Festus spak with the counsel, and answerde, To the emperoure thou hast appelid, to the emperoure thou schalt go.
25:13	And whanne summe daies weren passid, Agrippa kyng, and Beronyce camen doun to Cesarie, to welcome Festus.
25:14	And whanne thei dwelliden there many daies, Festus schewide to the king of Poul, and seide, A man is left boundun of Felix,
25:15	of which, whanne Y was at Jerusalem, princis of preestis and the eldre men of Jewis camen to me, and axiden dampnacioun ayens hym.
25:16	To whiche Y answeride, That it is not custom to Romayns, to dampne ony man, bifore that he that is accusid haue hise accuseris present, and take place of defending, to putte awei the crymes, that ben putte ayens hym.
25:17	Therfor whanne thei camen togidere hidir, withouten ony delaye, in the dai suynge Y sat for domesman, and comaundide the man to be brouyt.
25:18	And whanne hise accuseris stoden, thei seiden no cause, of whiche thingis Y hadde suspicioun of yuel.
25:19	But thei hadden ayens hym summe questiouns of her veyn worschiping, and of oon Jhesu deed, whom Poul affermyde to lyue.
25:20	And Y doutide of siche maner questioun, and seide, Whether he wolde go to Jerusalem, and ther be demyd of these thingis?
25:21	But for Poul appelide, that he schulde be kept to the knowing of the emperoure, Y comaundide him to be kept, til Y sende hym to the emperoure.
25:22	And Agrippa seide to Festus, Y my silf wolde here the man. And he seide, To morew thou schalt here hym.
25:23	And on the tother day, whanne Agrippa and Beronyce camen with greet desire, and entriden in to the auditorie, with tribunes and the principal men of the citee, whanne Festus bad, Poul was brouyt.
25:24	And Festus seide, King Agrippa, and alle men that ben with vs, ye seen this man, of which al the multitude of Jewis preyede me at Jerusalem, and axide, and criede, that he schulde lyue no lenger.
25:25	But Y foond, that he hadde don no thing worthi of deth; and Y deme to sende hym to the emperoure, for he appelide this thing.
25:26	Of which man Y haue not certeyne, what thing Y schal write to the lord. For which thing Y brouyte hym to you, and moost to thee, thou king Agrippa, that whanne axing is maad, Y haue what Y schal write.
25:27	For it is seyn to me with out resoun, to sende a boundun man, and not to signifie the cause of hym.


25:1	Now whan Festus was come in to the countre, ouer thre dayes he wente vp from Cesarea to Ierusalem.
25:2	Then appeared the hye prestes and the chefe of the Iewes before him agaynst Paul, and intreated him,
25:3	and desyred fauoure agaynst him, that he wolde sende for him to Ierusalem, and layed wayte for him, that they might slaye him by the waye.
25:4	Then answered Festus, that Paul shulde be kepte at Cesarea, but that he himselfe wolde shortly go thither agayne.
25:5	Let them therfore (sayde he) which are able amonge you, come downe with vs to accuse the man, yf there be ought in him.
25:6	Whan he had taried amonge them more then ten dayes, he wente downe to Cesarea. And on the nexte daye he sat downe on the iudgment seate, and commaunded Paul to be broughte.
25:7	Whan he was come, ye Iewes which were come downe from Ierusalem, stode rounde aboute him, and broughte vp many and greuous quarels agaynst Paul, which they coulde not proue,
25:8	whyle he answered for himselfe: I haue nether offended ought agaynst the lawe of the Iewes, ner agaynst the teple, ner agaynst the Emperoure.
25:9	But Festus wyllinge to shewe the Iewes a pleasure, answered Paul, and sayde: Wilt thou go vp to Ierusalem, and there be iudged off these thinges before me?
25:10	But Paul sayde: I stonde at the Emperours iudgmet seate, where I ought to be iudged: to the Iewes haue I done no harme, as thou also knowest very well.
25:11	Yf I haue hurte eny man, or committed eny thinge worthy off death, I refuse not to dye. But yf there are no soch thinges as they accuse me off, then maye no man delyuer me vnto them. I appeale vnto the Emperoure.
25:12	Then spake Festus with the Councell, and answered: Thou hast appealed vnto the Emperoure, to the Emperoure shalt thou go.
25:13	After certayne dayes came kynge Agrippa and Bernice to Cesarea to welcome Festus.
25:14	And whan they had taried there many dayes, Festus rehearsed Pauls cause vnto the kynge, and sayde: There is a man left bounde of Felix,
25:15	for whose cause the hye prestes and Elders of the Iewes appeared before me whan I was at Ierusalem, and desyred a sentence agaynst him.
25:16	Vnto whom I answered: It is not the maner off the Romaynes to delyuer eny man that he shulde perishe, before that he which is accused, haue his accusers presente, and receaue libertye to answere for him selfe to the accusacion.
25:17	Wha they were come hither together, I made no delaye, but sat the nexte daye in iudgment, and commaunded the man to be broughte forth.
25:18	Of whom, whan the accusers stode vp, they broughte no accusacion of soch thinges as I supposed:
25:19	But had certayne questions agaynst him of their awne supersticions, and of one Iesus deed, whom Paul affirmed to be alyue.
25:20	Howbeit because I vnderstode not the question, I axed hi, whether he wolde go to Ierusale, and there be iudged of these matters.
25:21	But wha Paul had appealed, that he might be kepte vnto the knowlege of the Emperoure, I comaunded him to be kepte, tyll I mighte sende him to the Emperoure.
25:22	Agrippa sayde vnto Festus: I wolde fayne heare the man also. He sayde: Tomorow shalt thou heare him.
25:23	And on the nexte daye came Agrippa & Bernice with greate pompe, and wete in to the comon hall with the captaynes & chefe me of the cite. And at Festus comaundement, Paul was brought forth.
25:24	And Festus sayde: Kynge Agrippa, and all ye men which are here with vs, ye se this man, aboute whom all the multitude of the Iewes haue entreated me, both at Ierusale and here also, and cried, that he ought not to lyue eny lenger.
25:25	But whan I perceaued that he had done nothinge worthy off death, and that he himselfe also had appealed vnto the Emperoure, I determyned to sende him,
25:26	of who I haue no certayne thinge to wryte vnto my lorde. Therfore haue I caused hi to be broughte forth before you, specially before the (O kynge Agrippa) that after examinacion had, I might haue somwhat to wryte.
25:27	For me thynke it an vnreasonable thinge to sende a presoner, and not to shewe the causes which are layed agaynst him.
