1 Timothy - Chapter: 3

>
3:1This is a true saying: If a man desire the office of a Bishop, he desireth a good worke.
3:2A Bishop then must be blamelesse, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behauiour, giuen to hospitalitie, apt to teach;
3:3Not giuen to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre, but patient, not a brawler, not couetous;
3:4One that ruleth well his owne house, hauing his children in subiection with all grauitie.
3:5(For if a man know not how to rule his owne house, how shall he take care of the Church of God?)
3:6Not a nouice, lest being lifted vp with pride, hee fall into the condemnation of the deuill.
3:7Moreouer, hee must haue a good report of them which are without, lest he fall into reproch, and the snare of the deuill.
3:8Likewise must the Deacons bee graue, not double tongued, not giuen to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre,
3:9Holding the mysterie of the faith in a pure conscience.
3:10And let these also first be proued; then let them vse the office of a Deacon, being found blamelesse.
3:11Euen so must their wiues be graue; not slanderers, sober, faithfull in all things.
3:12Let the Deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children, and their owne houses well.
3:13For they that haue vsed the office of a Deacon well, purchase to themselues a good degree, and great boldnesse in the faith, which is in Christ Iesus.
3:14These things write I vnto thee, hoping to come vnto thee shortly.
3:15But if I tary long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behaue thy selfe in the House of God, which is the Church of the liuing God, the pillar and ground of the trueth.
3:16And without controuersie, great is the mysterie of godlinesse: God was manifest in the flesh, iustified in the Spirit, seene of Angels, preached vnto the Gentiles, beleeued on in the world, receiued vp into glory.

3:1This is a true sayege: Yf a ma covet ye office of a Bisshoppe, he desyreth a good worke.
3:2But a Bisshoppe must be blamelesse, the hussbade of one wife, sober, discrete, manerly, harberous, apte to teach:
3:3Not geuen to moch wyne, no fighter, not geuen to filthy lucre: but gentle, abhorrynge stryfe, abhorrynge couetousnes:
3:4& one that ruleth his awne house honestly, hauynge obedient children with all honestye.
3:5(But yf a man can not rule his owne house, how shal he care for the congregacion of God?)
3:6He maye not be a yoge scolar, lest he be puft vp, and fall in to the iudgment of ye euell speaker.
3:7He must also haue a good reporte of them which are without, lest he fall in to the rebuke and snare of the euell speaker.
3:8Likewyse must the mynisters be honest, not double tonged, not geuen to moch wyne, nether vnto fylthie lucre,
3:9but hauynge the mystery of faith in pure conscience.
3:10And let them first be proued, and then let them mynister, yf they be blamelesse.
3:11Euen so must their wyues be honest, not euell speakers, but sober and faithfull in all thinges.
3:12Let the mynisters be, euery one the hussbade of one wyfe, and soch as rule their children well, and their owne housholdes.
3:13For they that mynister well, get them selues a good degree and greate libertye in the faith which is in Christ Iesu.
3:14These thinges wryte I vnto the, trustinge shortly to come vnto the:
3:15but yf I tary loge, that then thou mayest yet haue knowlege, how thou oughtest to behaue thy selfe in Gods house, which is the congregacion of the lyuynge God, the piler and grounde of trueth:
3:16and without naye, greate is that mystery of godlynes. God was shewed in the flesh: was iustified in the sprete: was sene of angels: was preached vnto the Heythen: was beleued on in the worlde: was receaued vp in glory.

3:1A feithful word. If ony man desirith a bishopriche, he desirith a good werk.
3:2Therfor it bihoueth a byschop to be with out repreef, the hosebonde of o wijf, sobre, prudent, chast, vertewous, holdinge hospitalite, a techere;
3:3not youun myche to wyn, not a smytere, but temperat, not ful of chiding, not coueitouse, wel reulinge his hous,
3:4and haue sones suget with al chastite;
3:5for if ony man kan not gouerne his house, hou schal he haue diligence of the chirche of God? not new conuertid to the feith,
3:6lest he be borun vp in to pride, and falle in to doom of the deuel.
3:7For it bihoueth hym to haue also good witnessing of hem that ben with outforth, that he falle not in to repreef, and in to the snare of the deuel.
3:8Also it bihoueth dekenes to be chast, not double tungid, not youun myche to wyn, not suynge foul wynnyng;
3:9that han the mysterie of feith in clene conscience.
3:10But be thei preued first, and mynystre so, hauynge no cryme.
3:11Also it bihoueth wymmen to be chast, not bacbitinge, sobre, feithful in alle thingis.
3:12Dekenes be hosebondis of o wijf; whiche gouerne wel her sones and her housis.
3:13For thei that mynystren wel, schulen gete a good degre to hem silf, and myche triste in the feith, that is in Crist Jhesu.
3:14Sone Timothe, Y write to thee these thingis, hopinge that Y schal come soon to thee;
3:15but if Y tarie, that thou wite, hou it bihoueth thee to lyue in the hous of God, that is the chirche of lyuynge God, a pilere and sadnesse of treuthe.
3:16And opynli it is a greet sacrament of pitee, that thing that was schewid in fleisch, it is iustified in spirit, it apperid to aungels, it is prechid to hethene men, it is bileuyd in the world, it is takun vp in glorie.
