Hebrews - Chapter: 7

7:1Thys Melchysedech, kynge of Salem (whiche beynge prieste of the moost hye God met Abraham, as he returned agayne from the slaughter of the kynges, & blessed him:
7:2to whom also Abraham gaue tythes of all thynges) fyrste is by interpretacyon kynge of ryghtuousnes: after that he is kynge of Salem that is to saye, kynge of peace,
7:3wythoute father, wythout mother, wythout kynne, & hath neyther begynnyng of hys tyme, neyther yet ende of hys lyfe: but is lykened vnto the sonne of God, and contynueth a prieste for euer.
7:4Consyder what a man this was, vnto whom the patriarke Abraham gaue tythes of the spoyles.
7:5And verely those chyldren of Leuy, which receyue the offyce of the priestes, haue a commaundemente to take accordynge to the lawe, tythes of the people, that is to say of theyr brethren, yea thoughe they spronge oute of the loynes of Abraham.
7:6But he whose kynred is not counted amonge them, receyued tythes of Abraham, and blessed hym that had the promises.
7:7And no man denyeth but that whiche is lesse, receyueth blessyng of that which is greater.
7:8And here men that dye, receyue tythes. But there he receyueth tythes of whome it is wytnessed, that he lyueth.
7:9And to say the trueth. Leuy hym selfe also whiche receyueth tythes, payed tythes in Abraham.
7:10For he was yet in the loynes of hys father Abraham when Melchysedech mete hym.
7:11Yf nowe therfore perfeccyon came by the priesthode of the Leuytes (for vnder that presthode the people receyueth the lawe) what nedeth furthermore that another prieste shoulde aryse after the ordre of Melchisedech, and not after the ordre of Aaron?
7:12Nowe no doubte, yf the priesthode be translated, then of necessitye must the lawe be translated also.
7:13For of whome these thynges are spoken pertayneth vnto another trybe, of whiche neuer man serued at the aulter.
7:14For it is euident, that oure Lorde sprong of the trybe of Iuda, of whiche trybe spake Moyses nothyng concernynge priesthode.
7:15And it is yet a more euydent thynge, yf after the similitude, of Melchisedech, there arise an other prieste:
7:16which is not made after the lawe of the carnall commaundement: but after the power of the endelesse lyfe.
7:17(For he testifyeth thou arte a prieste for euer, after the ordre of Melchysedech).
7:18Then the commaundement that wente before, is dysanulled, because of her weakenes and vnprofytablenes.
7:19For the lawe made nothynge perfecte: but was an introduccion of a better hope, by which hope we drawe nye vnto God.
7:20And for thys cause it is a better hope, that it was not promysed without an oth
7:21(those pryestes were made wythout an othe, but thys prieste wyth an othe, by hym that layed vnto hym. The Lorde sware, and wyl not repente: Thou arte a prieste for euer after the order of Melchisedech)
7:22And for the cause was Iesus a stablisher of a better testament.
7:23And amonge them many were made priestes, because they were not suffered to endure by the reason of death.
7:24But thys man, because he endureth euer hath an euerlastyng priestehode.
7:25Wherfor he is able also euer to saue them that come vnto God by hym, seyng he euer lyueth, to make intercessyon for vs.
7:26Suche an hye Prieste it became vs to haue which is holy, harmlesse, vndefyled, separate from synners, and made hyer then heauen.
7:27Whiche nedeth not dayelye (as yonder hye priestes) to offer vp sacrifyce, fyrste for hys own synnes, and then for the peoples synnes. For that dyd he at once for all, when he offered vp hym selfe.
7:28For the lawe maketh men priestes, which haue infyrmytye: but the worde of the othe that came sence the lawe, maketh the sonne pryeste, whiche is perfecte for euermore.

 

7:1For this Melchi-sedec was King of Salem, the Priest of the most high God, who met Abraham, as he returned from the slaughter of the Kings, and blessed him:
7:2To whom also Abraham gaue the tithe of all things: who first is by interpretation King of righteousnes: after that, he is also King of Salem, that is, King of peace,
7:3Without father, without mother, without kinred, and hath neither beginning of his dayes, neither ende of life: but is likened vnto the Sonne of God, and continueth a Priest for euer.
7:4Nowe consider how great this man was, vnto whome euen the Patriarke Abraham gaue the tithe of the spoyles.
7:5For verely they which are the childre of Leui, which receiue the office of the Priesthode, haue a commandement to take, according to the Law, tithes of the people (that is, of their bethren) though they came out of ye loynes of Abraham.
7:6But he whose kindred is not couted among them, receiued tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
7:7And without all contradiction the lesse is blessed of the greater.
7:8And here men that die, receiue tithes: but there he receiueth them, of whome it is witnessed, that he liueth.
7:9And to say as the thing is, Leui also which receiueth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
7:10For hee was yet in the loynes of his father Abraham, when Melchi-sedec met him.
7:11If therefore perfection had bene by the Priesthoode of the Leuites (for vnder it the Lawe was established to the people) what needed it furthermore, that another Priest should rise after the order of Melchi-sedec, and not to be called after the order of Aaron?
7:12For if the Priesthood be changed, then of necessitie must there be a change of the Lawe.
7:13For hee of whome these things are spoken, perteineth vnto another tribe, whereof no man serued at the altar.
7:14For it is euident, that our Lord sprung out of Iuda, concerning the which tribe Moses spake nothing, touching the Priesthood.
7:15And it is yet a more euident thing, because that after the similitude of Melchi-sedec, there is risen vp another Priest,
7:16Which is not made Priest after the Law of the carnal commandement, but after the power of the endlesse life.
7:17For hee testifieth thus, Thou art a Priest for euer, after the order of Melchi-sedec.
7:18For the commandement that went afore, is disanulled, because of the weakenes thereof, and vnprofitablenes.
7:19For the Law made nothing perfite, but the bringing in of a better hope made perfite, whereby we drawe neere vnto God.
7:20And for as much as it is not without an othe (for these are made Priestes without an othe:
7:21But this is made with an othe by him that said vnto him, The Lord hath sworne, and will not repent, Thou art a Priest for euer, after the order of Melchi-sedec)
7:22By so much is Iesus made a suretie of a better Testament.
7:23And among them many were made Priests, because they were not suffered to endure, by the reason of death.
7:24But this man, because hee endureth euer, hath a Priesthood, which cannot passe from one to another.
7:25Wherefore, hee is able also perfectly to saue them that come vnto God by him, seeing he euer liueth, to make intercession for them.
7:26For such an hie Priest it became vs to haue, which is holy, harmelesse, vndefiled, separate from sinners, and made hier then the heauens:
7:27Which needeth not daily as those hie Priests to offer vp sacrifice, first for his owne sinnes, and then for the peoples: for that did he once, when he offered vp himselfe.
7:28For the Law maketh men hie Priestes, which haue infirmitie: but the word of the othe that was since the Lawe, maketh the Sonne, who is consecrated for euermore.

7:6But he whose descent is not counted from them, receiued tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
7:7And without all contradiction, the lesse is blessed of the better.
7:8And here men that die receiue tithes: but there hee receiueth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liueth.
7:9And as I may so say, Leui also who receiueth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
7:10For hee was yet in the loynes of his Father when Melchisedec met him.
7:11If therefore perfection were by the Leuiticall Priesthood (for vnder it the people receiued the Law) what further neede was there, that another Priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not bee called after the order of Aaron?
7:12For the Priesthood being chaunged, there is made of necessitie a change also of the Law.
7:13For hee of whom these things are spoken, pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gaue attendance at the Altar.
7:14For it is euident that our Lorde sprang out of Iuda, of which tribe Moses spake nothing cocerning Priesthood.
7:15And it is yet farre more euident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another Priest,
7:16Who is made not after the Law of a carnall commandement, but after the power of an endles life.
7:17For hee testifieth; Thou art a Priest for euer, after the order of Melchisedec.
7:18For there is verily a disanulling of the commandement going before, for the weakenesse and vnprofitablenesse thereof.
7:19For the Law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did: by the which wee draw nigh vnto God.
7:20And in as much as not without an othe he was made Priest,
7:21(For those Priests were made without an oath: but this with an oath, by him that said vnto him, The Lord sware and wil not repent, thou art a Priest for euer after the order of Melchisedec)
7:22By so much was Iesus made a suertie of a better Testament.
7:23And they truely were many Priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death.
7:24But this man because hee continueth euer, hath an vnchangeable Priesthood.
7:25Wherefore he is able also to saue them to the vttermost, that come vnto God by him, seeing hee euer liueth to make intercession for them.
7:26For such an high Priest became vs, who is holy, harmelesse, vndefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher then the heauens.
7:27Who needeth not daily, as those high Priests, to offer vp sacrifice, first for his owne sins and then for the peoples: for this he did once, when he offered vp himselfe.
7:28For the Law maketh men high Priests which haue infirmitie, but the word of the othe which was since the Law, maketh the Sonne, who is consecrated for euermore.
